He was recognized in 2014 by the California State Senate for his achievements in education. He was a 2018 CSUB (California State University, Bakersfield) Hall of Fame inductee--the first classroom teacher ever inducted in the history of the school. Jeremy received his bachelor’s degree in politics from Washington and Lee University and his master’s degree in education (curriculum and instruction) from California State University, Bakersfield, where he was named the Outstanding Student in the School of Education. He is also an education speaker and has spoken to large education groups and conferences across the country. In addition, Jeremy is the author of Full Classrooms Empty Selves and The Secrets of Timeless Teachers. Jeremy S. Adams is an author, teacher, husband, and father. He is the author of the book The Secrets of Timeless Teachers: Instruction that Works in Every Generation published by Rowman & Littlefield, 2016.  He also wrote the critically acclaimed memoir, Empty Selves: Reflections on a Decade of Teaching in an American High School (2012).  Additionally, he is a regular contributor and columnist for the national online journal The Educator's Room and has written editorials for The Washington Post, among other online and print outlets.   Jeremy is a full-time teacher of political science at Bakersfield High School in California and a lecturer of political science at California State University, Bakersfield. In 2012 he was named the Kern County Teacher of the Year and was a semifinalist for the 2013 California Department of Education's Teachers of the Year Program.  In 2014, he was recognized by the Daughters of the American Revolution with the 2014 California State Teacher of the Year Award. Also, he is the founder of the Earl Warren Constitutional Competition, is a graduate of Washington & Lee University and lives in Bakersfield, California with his wife and three children. Ok, I know we all are busy and it is so easy to say,  "You know I will gladly read something tomorrow, but today, I just need to do this."  Come on, you know what I'm talking about.  Just say no to that inclination.  You need to be constantly learning if you are going to work with kids.  Classroom teacher, building administrator, instructional coach,  athletic coach, graduation coach, so forth and so on. Reading is a must. You must continually seek to expand your understanding of what works with kids at different ages. Today, I am focused on my  3 Reasons Why Professional Reading is a Must: When we take time to read professional writings we are able to- 1. Address what we don't know. 2. Learn more about what we have some knowledge of. 3. Discover new information that can help us be better at what we already do.
