When I sat down with Caelyn Caulfield, I knew this conversation would hit home for so many coaches, parents, and athletes. As a varsity basketball head coach and future school counselor, she's bringing the grief recovery tools she's learned into the gym, the classroom, and her everyday life with students. What stood out most to me is how intentional she is about giving her team space to process emotions—not just run plays. Too often, coaches and parents expect kids to "shake it off" or hide their feelings when they miss a shot, lose a game, or face personal struggles. But as Caelyn shared, those unresolved emotions don't disappear—they follow kids into the next practice, the classroom, and even into adulthood. By creating weekly team meetings that focus on themes like trust, she's building stronger athletes and healthier young women who know it's okay to feel and process life as it comes. This episode is a call to action for every coach, teacher, and parent: emotions aren't a distraction from the game—they're the foundation of growth. Whether you're on the field, in the dugout, or at home cheering in the stands, we all have a responsibility to model emotional health for the next generation. I think you'll walk away from this conversation inspired to lead with more compassion and intentionality—on and off the court. In every new season we have the same God. Starting a new school year, going to a new school, changes at work. In the middle of all the change it can feel like a storm. In this the words of Christ ring true: “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” (Matthew 14:27). Transition can be a teacher or take us out. We get to choose. Joshua 1:1-9 (ESV)After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' assistant, “Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”Matthew 14:22-33 (ESV)Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

900 Episodes of Transformative Leadership In this special 900th episode of the Breakfast Leadership Show, I take a moment to reflect with deep gratitude. Hosting nearly a thousand conversations with thought leaders, change-makers, and everyday champions has been a true honor. Each episode is rooted in one mission: Helping you lead a better life by navigating workplace stress, avoiding burnout, and stepping into the leader you were born to be. I also shared a bit of my own growth journey, including how I've intentionally reduced screen time to reclaim focus and calm. It's a reminder that real transformation often comes from the small, intentional changes we make daily. I invite you to ask yourself: What does your ideal life look like? And more importantly, What's one step you can take today to move closer to it? Navigating Change with Purpose Change is inevitable—but how we respond is where our power lies. In this episode, I challenge listeners to stop waiting for the "right time" and start leading their own life transitions. Grab a journal and write it out: your goals, your challenges, and the specific actions required to create meaningful change in your career or life. Motivation can be fleeting, but discipline? That's where the magic happens. Whether you're switching careers, developing a new skill set, or simply craving more balance, clarity begins when you commit to action. Visualize the outcome, get honest about the work required, and give yourself permission to evolve.
In this episode, Dr. Walker explores the challenges and opportunities that come with leadership transitions. Whether stepping into a new role, shifting strategies, or managing organizational change, he provides key insights on how to lead with confidence and clarity. Through biblical wisdom and leadership principles, he equips leaders to embrace change, make bold decisions, and guide others through uncertain seasons.
In this episode, I sit down with my best friend and fellow entrepreneur, Anette Oran, to talk about the bold and beautiful life she's built—across borders, time zones, and industries. Anette shares what it's been like to relocate to a brand new country with her husband, how she creates grounding rituals in unfamiliar places, and the unexpected gifts that come from living outside your comfort zone. We also dive into Cohere, the software company she co-founded to support coaches and course creators in building transformational programs with ease. Anette drops wisdom on staying rooted in your purpose, avoiding the comparison trap (especially in the digital world), and how to create a life that feels like you, wherever you are. Whether you're a digital nomad, an aspiring entrepreneur, or simply craving a fresh perspective on life, this episode is a warm, inspiring listen that will leave you feeling grounded and expansive all at once.

Episode #1011 Doug and Coach Neil get into a real, grounded conversation about what it looks like to lead at home when things are shifting—whether it's your kid pulling away for the first time or your marriage feeling a little off. They talk through the quiet stuff most men don't say out loud: feeling alone, second-guessing yourself, and wondering if you're really showing up the way you want to. This isn't about fixing your wife or your kid. It's about you. Are you actually leading, or are you hoping things sort themselves out? Doug shares a moment that stopped him in his tracks, and Neil opens up about what his son—and his ex—are still teaching him about how to show up as a man with purpose and presence. If you've been coasting or caught in blame, this episode's a chance to reset. You don't need to be perfect. But you do need to be honest. That's where change actually starts. If your marriage feels off and you're tired of guessing what to do, grab the free training at fixmarriage.thepowerfulman.com/scales. It's direct, clear, and gives you a real starting point without needing to bring your wife into it right away. Just you, leading from the front.
Hope in Action: Leadership Lessons from Cynthia Rivard on Navigating Change and Inspiring ImpactIn a world marked by uncertainty and rapid transformation, the need for authentic, visionary leadership has never been greater. In a recent episode of The Thoughtful Entrepreneur, host Josh Elledge sat down with Cynthia Rivard, author of Hope for a New Era: Turning the Tide Love and Leadership Through Turbulent Times, CEO of Cynthia Rivard Strategic Consulting, and Founder of the Global Rising Tide Foundation. Cynthia's work focuses on empowering leaders to foster hope, embrace change, and drive meaningful impact within their organizations and communities. This blog post distills the core principles shared during their conversation, offering actionable strategies for leaders to turn hope into action. The Core Principles of Transformational LeadershipCynthia emphasizes that hope isn't just a passive feeling; it's faith in a better future that drives action. As a leader, she believes that hope begins with crafting a clear vision for a better future and taking deliberate, small steps toward that vision. By acting on hope, leaders can inspire others to do the same, creating a ripple effect of empowerment throughout their teams and communities. Cynthia suggests that leaders should tap into their intuition and wisdom to guide their actions, sharing their journey openly and transparently to inspire those around them. One of the biggest challenges in leadership is overcoming resistance to change. Cynthia explains that resistance is deeply rooted in our subconscious, a survival mechanism that can hold leaders back if left unexamined. She encourages leaders to be aware of their fears and discomforts around change and take small, manageable actions to disrupt that inertia. Modeling vulnerability as a leader, Cynthia believes, helps create an environment where teams feel safe to embrace change, experiment, and grow together.Lastly, Cynthia speaks about the importance of fostering self-love and confidence in leadership. True confidence, according to Cynthia, is not about bravado, but about self-acceptance and self-compassion. She emphasizes that when leaders embody self-worth, they empower their teams to do the same, creating a culture of resilience and collaboration. By cultivating these qualities in themselves and their teams, leaders can build a foundation of trust and psychological safety that fuels innovation and success.About Cynthia RivardCynthia Rivard is the CEO of Cynthia Rivard Strategic Consulting and an author of Hope for a New Era: Turning the Tide Love and Leadership Through Turbulent Times. Send us a textJulie Jenkins and Dr. Thomas Anderson II explore how leaders can navigate complex change by embracing curiosity as a way of being rather than seeking stability or rushing to solutions.• Complex change differs from linear change—there's no step-by-step process, only sense-making and educated guesses• Leaders create the "weather" for their teams—their approach to uncertainty directly affects how others respond• Moving from a controlling leadership style to a curious one requires sitting with the discomfort of not knowing• Breaking out of leadership defaults requires self-awareness and intentionally designing new responses• Creating spaciousness, asking one more question, and mapping out knowns versus unknowns are practical leadership tools• Resistance and readiness are two sides of the same coin—resistance signals important information• Embracing paradox ("two things can be true") helps teams move forward despite uncertainty• Approaching change as experiments allows for learning without judgment about right or wrong• Being vulnerable with your team builds trust that sustains through uncertaintyRemember that leadership during complex change doesn't require having all the answers. Be kind to yourself, extend compassion to others, and trust the process of learning as you go.Connect with our experts on LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/julie-jenkins/https://www.linkedin.com/in/thomasandersonii/BelemLeaders–Your organization's trusted partner for leader and team development. In this first episode of the Ready or Not mini-series, Katelyn tackles the question so many of us ask when we're considering change: Is it the right time? Whether you're thinking about a new job, tweaking a routine, or making time for something new, the timing rarely feels right. She explains why your brain resists change, even when it's for the better—and how waiting for the “perfect time” might keep you stuck, and why small steps matter—especially in busy seasons. Plus, hear how her backyard garden became a powerful reminder that starting now is almost always worth it. ==========================
In the second episode of the Ready or Not mini-series, Katelyn walks through how to prepare for and navigate change—especially the kind you choose to make. From shifting routines to bigger life decisions, she shares why waiting for things to "settle down" never works and how thinking ahead can make change feel more manageable. With relatable stories and a reminder of just how much change you already navigate, this episode will leave you feeling capable and ready to lead your next change with intention. ==========================
In this final episode of the Ready or Not mini-series, Katelyn challenges the belief that change has to be big—or hard—to be worth it. And even when life feels uncertain or chaotic and you might be inclined to stick with the status quo, change can actually make life easier. Too often, we settle for “good enough” without realizing how much better things could be. If you're feeling stuck or stretched thin, this episode is your reminder that ease might be just one small change away. ==========================
