In the chaotic post-George Floyd time in America, Fank McCormick, a widely recognized excellent teacher at a very low-income, high-risk school began to speak out when DEI, CRT, and other dangerous ideologies began being directly taught to his students. Teachers that were willing to publicly speak out during that time were very rare, and in this conversation, Will & Frank discuss what led them to do that. Also, topics covered are: what good education looks like, dangerous "woke" ideas permeating schools, and how to foster an environment of curiosity and dialogue rather than obedience to an activist agenda. Many of us in Western culture have a rigid understanding of the student-teacher relationship—one that places teachers in positions of authority to which students are taught to defer. But helping our clients to heal requires a relationship of exchange. In this episode, I'm speaking with Ruth Ann Penny, veteran educator and yoga teacher, about the role of teachers in helping clients out of pain. Listen in as Ruth Ann and I share an in-depth discussion on our role as effective teachers, empowering our clientele to develop an inner locus of control, and forming a healing relationship with our patients. Good questioning is at the heart of great teaching – as such this very practical episode looks at how teachers can plan and ask effective questions that support student participation, learning and progress. Two experienced teachers discuss the different purposes of questioning in the classroom as well as the things teachers must consider when planning their questions and questioning techniques. We detail some of the common challenges and how we can overcome them, such as getting the timing of questions right, encouraging student participation, dealing with “I don't know” responses, improving oracy and the quality of student responses, creating a safe questioning culture in your classroom and more. We look at the different types of questions, including hinge questions, Socratic questioning, discussions, metacognitive questions and more. And we consider different techniques, including hot seating, think-pair-share, cold-calling, mini-whiteboards, entry and exit tickets, students asking the questions and more.

People did (and do) have to decide what to do with Jesus. One option was to respect his skill as an orator and teacher, but those who do so must then reject the reality that his teaching consistently included his claim to be the Son of God.
In a viral video, a three-year-old white belt karate student imitated her instructor. With passion and conviction the little girl said the creed with her leader. Then, with poise and attentiveness, the little ball of cuteness and energy imitated everything her teacher said and did—at least she did a pretty good job! Jesus once said, “The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher” (Luke 6:40). He told His disciples that to imitate Him included being generous, loving, non-judgmental (vv. 37–38), and discerning about whom they followed: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?” (v. 39). His disciples needed to discern that this standard disqualified the Pharisees who were blind guides—leading people to disaster (Matthew 15:14). And they needed to grasp the importance of following their Teacher. Thus, the aim of Christ’s disciples was to become like Jesus Himself. So it was important for them to pay careful attention to Christ’s instruction about generosity and love and apply it. As believers striving to imitate Jesus today, let’s give our lives over to our Master Teacher so we can become like Him in knowledge, wisdom, and behavior. He alone can help us reflect His generous, loving ways.

Topics Mentioned: Proud moments Reading Lessons Learned Rest Key Thoughts: It also made us realize what's most important in our life. And in our family. It's just always that reset button. Then it also made me thankful for the business that I've built, and the processes that I have, so I could take a step away for a week or so. Michele (7:34) My job is not my whole life. Most of us started our businesses for that reason, we wanted to work it around our lives. So where did we lose our way that the business is controlling our life? Ceil DiGuglielmo (14:30) I had to and still am having to learn how to navigate that with joy, and with calm and even when it doesn't feel calm. And how to be curious, and how to be kind and soft, not hard hearted, and irritated and angry and frustrated when my plans keep getting disrupted. Michele (17:27) There are also a lot of us who are the parents of adult children, and there are times we have to stop everything, being a teachable moment because our children have become adults. But I also think that our children learn from us when they see us in difficult circumstances.
