While growing up John Rivera ( Kariton Sorbettes) fell in love with food by watching cooking shows - especially shows with Neil Perry. It lead to a chance start in Perry's restaurants that triggered a career in fiber dining in some of Melbourne's best restaurants. But when the pandemic landed he searched for a way to pivot and took a dive into the sweeter side of his culinary ancestry. Now he has one of the most unique gelato offerings in the country. https://www.karitonsorbetes.com Follow Deep In The Weeds on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/deepintheweedspodcast/?hl=en Follow Huck https://www.instagram.com/huckstergram/ Follow Rob Locke (Executive Producer) https://www.instagram.com/foodwinedine/ LISTEN TO OUR OTHER FOOD PODCASTS https://linktr.ee/DeepintheWeedsNetwork Deep in the Weeds is a food podcast hosted by Anthony Huckstep in conversation with chefs, food producers and members of the hospitality industry. In a very six degrees of separation moment, as I wait to talk to John Rivera at Lûmé, his sous chef, Michael comes out to say hello. Michael is Jodie Odrowaz’s (last conversation) boyfriend and when I talk to John about that, he tells me Valentin (conversation before Jodie) is coming in for dinner that night. My mind is blown and I love it. It feels right that all worlds should collide here. John is passionate about bringing people together and creating a sense of community amongst chefs, especially the younger generation. He wants to make a difference and I can feel that intention through the way he speaks about cooking, collaborating and learning more.
