599 The Smiths - Strangeways, Here We Come
Kurtis is back with a fresh wave of music. After a week in London, he's back with a mix of indie, mod revival, electronica, house, and 80s new wave.He featured two tracks from the iconic album Strangeways, Here We Come by The Smiths, which recently celebrated its 35th anniversary. The album is still considered one of the most influential indie albums.Plus, new music from two of the most exciting new bands in the indie scene: The Lathums and The Reytons. The Lathums' single Thoughts of a Child is a reflective ballad about the innocence of youth, while The Reytons' single Let Me Breathe is a high-energy punk anthem about breaking free from constraints. As promised, we're Making Mondays Happy Again! For more info and tracklisting, visit https://thefaceradio.com/side-effects.Tune into new broadcasts of Side Effects, LIVE, Monday from 2 - 4 PM EST / 7 - 9 PM GMT on The Face Radio.Dig this show? It's essential to keep mentor texts meaningful for students so they can learn how to use them effectively and independently. In this episode, Stacey shares four practical strategies to encourage children to return to mentor texts repeatedly. These include whole-class text studies, the "return and reflect" process, using craft move charts in picture books, and encouraging students to "read like a writer" when they're reading for pleasure. By implementing these techniques, teachers can help their students become more independent writers in and out of the classroom.Books, blog posts, and other resources mentioned in this episode:A Small Group in Action: Elaboration Strategies, Here We Come!Craft Moves: Lesson Sets for Teaching Writing with Mentor TextsMentor text craft move charts are found in A Small Group in Action: Elaboration Strategies, Here We Come.Rebekah O'Dell's Twitter thread explains the concept of “Return and Reflect”Tap Into the Power of Whole-Class Text StudiesPlease subscribe to our podcast and leave us ratings/reviews on your favorite listening platform. You may contact us directly if you want us to consult with your school district.
