Ese día llegaron a un lugar habitado por indígenas guaraníes, quienes con el jefe y hasta con las mujeres y los niños salieron muy complacidos a recibirlos al camino, a dos leguas del pueblo. Traían muchas provisiones de gallinas, patos, miel, batatas y otras frutas, maíz y harina de piñones (de la que hacen muy grandes cantidades). Porque hay en aquella tierra muy grandes pinares. Son tan grandes los pinos que cuatro hombres juntos, tendidos los brazos, no pueden abrazar uno. Son muy altos y derechos los pinos, y son muy buenos para mástiles de naves... según su tamaño. Las piñas son grandes, los piñones del tamaño de bellotas, con una cáscara grande como de castañas. Y más aún los que podemos identificarnos con ellos por haber sido víctimas del despojo cometido por personas que, ya sea en carne propia o a distancia, nos han robado algo de nuestra propiedad física o intelectual que nos ha costado mucho trabajo. Es que, quiéranlo o no reconocer los culpables de ese delito, a los ojos de Dios es tan reprobable robarle una máquina de coser a una pobre viuda que se gana la vida con ella, como es condenable piratear las grabaciones de artistas musicales copiando y revendiendo sus discos compactos a precios irrisorios sin que los autores sepan siquiera lo que está sucediendo, aunque los pobres artistas lo supongan a causa de los pocos ingresos que perciben de las ventas legítimas. ¡Y ni hablar de los millares que a diario citan o copian las palabras de otros autores como si fueran suyas, ya sea en escritos o en la Internet, sin preocuparse un ápice por atribuirle autoría a esas palabras o investigar a ver quién las pronunció, dando así la impresión de que son de su propia inspiración! Vaca Muerta, la formación de petróleo y gas de esquisto en la Patagonia argentina, es uno de los yacimientos no convencionales más importantes del mundo. Genera más del 60% de la producción de gas y petróleo del país y no deja de batir récords. Según datos del think tank Fundar, Neuquén, la provincia en la que se encuentra Vaca Muerta, tenía en 2022 el equivalente al PIB per cápita de Alemania. Cada semana llegan a Neuquén trabajadores de otras partes de Argentina e incluso del exterior, atraídos por salarios que pueden superar con creces los de otras industrias. Pero la ciudad que ve crecer sus grúas y sus rascacielos tiene también un lado B: el de quienes llegaron con el sueño de insertarse en la industria del petróleo y se encuentran con una realidad muy diferente. Nuestro corresponsal en Argentina, Natalio Cosoy, fue a Neuquén a escuchar esas historias. "No es lo que te venden, te venden una ilusión": Mónica Justiniano tiene 59 años y vive en un barrio popular de las afueras de Neuquén. Llegó hace unos seis años, desde una zona del norte del país en la que el declino de la actividad petrolera llevó a que muchos decidieran migrar. Esperanzas frustradas "Cuando llegas acá sin nada, sin vivienda, sin trabajo, sin dinero, te encontrás con algo que, una pared que te da contra la cara y es difícil", recalca. Trabajó en gastronomía, en limpieza, en lo que consiguiera. Ella es una de miles que son atraídos por la promesa petrolera, pero nunca logran ingresar al sector. Neuquén es hoy la ciudad que más rápido crece en Argentina. "El 30% de las personas que viven en la ciudad nacieron en otro lugar", explica Lucas Materre, subsecretario de Derechos Humanos de la Municipalidad de Neuquén. Lleva años mapeando el fenómeno de la migración. "Y aproximadamente el 40% de las personas que llegan, llegan a través de consultoras de trabajo, y la contratación ya previa. Y después, bueno, está este otro 60, 65% de personas que llegan y bueno, hasta que esperan y consiguen, pasa un tiempo", agrega. "Que lo piensen bien" Entre los que llegan hay muchos venezolanos, la comunidad extranjera que en la última década más creció en la región. Luis Rodán Belisario tiene 49 años y llegó seguro de que habría lugar para él: "Por ser ingeniero y especialista por más de 20 años en la industria petrolera, fue la visión que tuve: quedarme en Latinoamérica y trabajar en el petróleo aquí en Vaca Muerta", cuenta. Pero no tuvo suerte. Un día, dejó de buscar empleo en el petróleo. Su esposa, Lixayi López era docente en Venezuela y también tuvo que reinventarse. Trabaja en Cáritas Diocesana acompañando a migrantes. Y desde ahí ve cómo los casos como el de su marido se repiten: "La gente viene con mucha angustia, mucho dolor, sobre todo porque si vienen con la familia y no consiguen trabajo, es, imagínate, es una frustración", dice. De regreso en su casa, Mónica Justiniano tiene un mensaje para quienes piensan en mudarse a Neuquén: "Que lo piensen bien. Sí, Vaca Muerta genera trabajo, pero es para ciertas personas. No todos tienen el mismo privilegio", afirma.
