..Due novità di due formazioni pubblicate dalla Intakt di cui ci siamo già occupati a Jazz Anthology. Del trio del chitarrista svizzero Dave Gisler avevamo a suo tempo segnalato Zurich Concert, un live registrato nel 2019 alla rassegna Unerhoert!, con guest la trombettista statunitense Jaimie Branch, una delle più interessanti figure dell'avanguardia affermatesi negli ultimi anni: la collaborazione con Jaimie Branch aveva funzionato così bene che Gisler si era già ripromesso una allargamento stabile del gruppo a quartetto; poi nel 2020 il trio ha avuto occasione di avere come guest in un club di Zurigo il sassofonista David Murray, anche in questo caso con reciproca soddisfazione: e così la Intakt ha suggerito di incidere in quintetto un nuovo album di studio di Gisler. In una puntata del novembre scorso abbiamo presentato il precedente album di Punkt Vrt Plastik, il trio della pianista slovena Kaja Draksler, del bassista svedese Petter Eldh e del batterista tedesco Christian Lillinger; il nuovo album, registrato dal vivo alla Rote Fabrik di Zurigo, è non meno convincente: da ascoltare anche in vista dell'arrivo di Kaja Draksler a Brescia il 24 aprile, in trio con Lillinger e con il sassofonista Tobias Delius.

Torniamo sulle uscite della Intakt per tre album molto diversi fra loro pubblicati dall'etichetta svizzera nel 2021. In due puntate del settembre 2020 - che si possono trovare in podcast - ci eravamo occupati dei due precedenti album per la Intakt del sax tenore afroamericano James Brandon Lewis, uno dei personaggi più in vista del jazz di oggi: il nuovo album, realizzato con il suo quartetto regolare con il pianista Aruan Ortiz, il bassista Brad Jones e il batterista Chad Taylor si intitola Code of Being. Uno degli album che hanno fatto più effetto quest'anno, e non solo fra le produzioni Intakt, è la seconda uscita del trio Punkt Vrt Plastik, formato dalla pianista slovena Kaja Draksler, dal bassista svedese Petter Eldh e dal batterista tedesco Christian Lillinger: molto appassionante sia il pianismo della Draksler che l'interplay del trio, con il modo non convenzionale di procedere di basso e batteria. Infine un corroborante doppio cd, Road, di Fred Frith, grande chitarrista e sperimentatore: un cd in trio con basso e batteria, l'altro con l'aggiunta al trio della sassofonista danese Lotte Anker o della trombettista portoghese Susana Santos Silva.

Una extraña pareja cuyo encuentro nos sirve de terapia. La pianista griega Tania Giannouli se unió al neozelandés Rob Thorne, especialista en instrumentos de la cultura maorí, para una sesión de improvisación que han titulado "Rewa". Con ellos abrimos un viaje sonoro en esta edición de 'Club de Jazz' del 13 de julio de 2018 que se cierra con otro dúo asombroso, el del guitarrista Ben Monder con Aaron Shragge, que sopla su Dragon Mouth Trumpet, una trompeta propia que incluye una vara para poder trabajar con microtonos. Además, escuchamos las "Louisiana Variations" de Agustí Fernández (piano), Barry Guy (contrabajo) y Torben Snekkestad (saxos). Una sesión de improvisación, como la que también tuvieron dos pianistas que se reunieron para firmar "To pianos": la francesa Eve Risser y la eslovena Kaja Draksler. POGOVARJA SE FRANCI KAPLER

Kaja Draksler ima kakšnih 30 let, vsaj zadnjih deset let pa živi v tujini kot jazz glasbenica. To pomeni da živi od glasbe, glasba je njen način preživljanja in preživetja. Med ploščami, ki jih je posnela, je najbolj odmeven njen solo projekt The lives of many others za založbo Clean Feed. Ob njej je dobila izredno pozitivne ocene v kar nekaj ključnih medijih po svetu, še posebej zapis v New York Timesu je bil pomemben. Pogovor za podcast Pogovarja se Franci Kapler sva naredila še pred njenim prvim letošnjim nastopom na Jazz festivalu Ljubljana, zvečer je namreč v klubu igrala v ad hoc triu Hamid Drake, Kaja Draksler, Ned Rothenberg trio. Bila je utrujena, vendar hkrati sproščena, povsem preprosta. V pogovoru ni bilo nobenega nastopaštva, kot tudi zvečer na koncertu ne. Skratka, ima mero in stil. Njen talent je velika dragocenost, ki bo še prinesla dobre plošče, koncerte. Se mi je zdelo, da tudi sama polaga še velike upe v prihodnje projekte. Nos sumamos al 'Día Internacional de la Mujer' con una edición especial dedicada a Ejazz. La mujer en el jazz ha estado históricamente asociada a la voz, por eso las voces que suenan en esta edición de 'Club de Jazz' del 8 de marzo de 2016 tienen alguna peculiaridad: La maliense Rokia Traoré no pertenece a la tradición del jazz, pero en su último disco hace versión de "Strange fruit". La griega Savina Yannatou tiene una faceta "ortodoxa" con su grupo Primavera en Salonico, otra de improvisación libre en colaboraciones como la de "Time passing...", una especie de ópera del contrabajista Barry Guy. Voz hipnótica y quebradiza, la noruega Sidsel Endresen participó en "Time bell", trabajo del guitarrista holandés Bram Stadhouders con el baterista Jim Black como invitado. Pianistas hay muchas en el jazz, entre ellas la estadounidense Myra Melford, cuyo "Life carries me this way" se inspira en cuadros de Don Reich. También la eslovena Kaja Draksler, que profesa "This love" a la trompetista portuguesa Susana Santos Silva. Bateristas quizá no abunden, pero haberlas haylas. Ahí está la gallega Lucía Martínez, que se dedica al "Desalambrado" con el pianista Agustí Fernández. También con baquetas se maneja Allison Miller en el proyecto Boom Tic Boom del que también forma parte Myra Melford. Saxofonistas también las hay, como Matana Roberts, que en su serie "Coin Coin" reflexiona sobre algunos aspectos de la tradición del jazz, así como en la vida de los africanos en Estados Unidos durante el siglo XX. La compositora y directora de orquesta Maria Schneider ha presentado uno de los grandes trabajos de 2015, "The Thompson Fields", disco que escuchamos en esta edición de 'Club de Jazz' del 2 de enero de 2016 y que Maria presentó en una amplia entrevista (http://www.ivoox.com/4690065) en este programa. De su orquesta forma parte el trombonista Marshall Gilkes, de cuyo "Köln" con la WDR Big Band servimos unas pinceladas. La segunda hora la protagoniza la trompetista portuguesa Susana Santos Silva con tres trabajos publicados en 2015: "This love" es un dúo con la pianista eslovena Kaja Draksler; "The Elephant's journey" es el tercer trabajo de su trío LAMA, con el clarinetista Joachim Badenhorst como invitado; "Impermanence" es el segundo trabajo con su quinteto.
