When an organization wants to achieve its goals, it needs a vision. Effective leadership starts with recognizing and outlining those goals and inspiring others to follow. Leaders paint a picture of how that vision will affect the company as a whole, as well as each individual. A leader's ability to articulate that vision into a mission statement corresponds to actively implementing goals and the company's bottom-line success. I had the pleasure to interview Gordon Prouty, Vice President of Public Relations and Community Affairs at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino. In this role, he oversees media relations, publicity, and community and government outreach for this resort casino. Originally from Syracuse, New York, Prouty has held senior-level media executive positions in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle before coming to Southern Nevada to join the Greenspun Media Group as their group publisher in 2015. He joined Westgate Las Vegas as Director of Public Relations and Community Affairs in 2018 and got promoted to his current role in 2019. Prouty has also been an adjunct instructor at Syracuse University's prestigious S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Gordon was named MyVegas Magazine 2021 "Man of the Year" and one of the 2022 Top 50 Business Leaders in Las Vegas by Real Vegas Magazine. He has served as a United Way of Southern Nevada and Las Vegas Business Academy board member. He also serves on the Nevada Donor Network and Cultural Diversity Foundation boards. He is also a member of the Vegas Chamber's President Club, the American Cancer Society's CEOs Against Cancer, and the Tech Impact Advisory Board. He is active in the community, volunteering for several local organizations through the Westgate Las Vegas CareForce. He donates his time to emcee several nonprofit events, including the NV Donor Network Inspire Gala and the Technology and Diversity For Charity Gala. Gordon is the Ambassador Champion for this year's American Cancer Society "Real Men Wear Pink" campaign and the Corporate Walk Chair for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk. One of The Pop Culture Show's favorite guests returns...Charles Esten! Charles has been in some of TV's best from Who's Line is it Anyway and The Office to Nashville and Outer Banks (Netflix).Over the last few years, singer/songwriter and actor Charles Esten - best known for his roles as Ward Cameron on the NETFLIX global hit show Outer Banks, and Deacon Claybourne in ABC/CMT's Nashville, has performed hundreds of live concerts, including multiple headline tours in the US, Germany, Amsterdam, and UK, including the Royal Albert Hall. In early 2020, his main stage performance as part of the popular Country2Country festival in Europe was cut short by the pandemic. After that, for over a year during lockdown, he entertained fans virtually with his weekly FacebookLive Quarantine Livestream that to-date has drawn almost 1.5 million total views. Recently, he has been able to resume live performances, most notably on the Grand Ole Opry, where he has made 140 appearances to-date, and he is excited to reconnect with more live audiences as he takes to the road for his own shows this summer. In his adopted hometown of Nashville, Esten serves as the National Honorary Spokesperson for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's annual “Light The Night” Walk, and as a board member and volunteer for Musicians On Call. When not filming or touring, he continues to write and record his own music with over 9.5 million streams to date, and a Guinness World Record for releasing 54 original songs (available on iTunes, and on Spotify) once a week, for 54 consecutive weeks. I had the pleasure of sitting with actor, comedian and performer Charles Esten recently. Most notorious for his role in Nashville as Deacon Claybourne. This was extra special for me as Charles, or Chip as I better know him, is my godfather and somebody I look up to in many ways. He Is one of the most charismatic yet humble people I've had the pleasure of meeting. I always jump at the opportunity to spend time with him when I can and this was a wonderful experience for me to record this episode. Chip started his amazing career in LA before moving to London to work for my dad in his Westend show 'The Buddy Holly Story'. From there Chip has had an immense journey of ups and downs. His journey lead him to land a main role in hit series Nashville and he has just finished his first solo UK tour, finishing at none other than the Royal Albert Hall. This man is my godfather, an abnormally talented individual but more than anything he is one of the most incredible and intelligent men I've ever spoken to. I loved this episode more than you can imagine and it will be an hour I will never forget. Here are a few things we spoke about: - Chip's early career. From working in LA to moving to London. - How he had to jump at his opportunities and making a last impact in those moments. - Hearing the story of how Chip's relationship with his magnificent wife Patty came a reality. A lovely story. - How being present is just so important to him. - Prioritisation is key to living a fulfilled life. - How to steer towards the fear and how that can make you powerful. - 'We are stronger than we think'. Hearing about the adversity that Chip's family has been through with their youngest Addie. How the family came together and came out on top... TOGETHER. - Chip's toolbox analogy. Beautiful. - Knowing where you want to go in life is great but building and nurturing your foundations is what really matters. You think some things matter in life but it's in moments of adversity that you realise they don't. It's the foundations that really matter when it comes down to it. - The charity work that Chip does for Leukaemia. The Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's evening walk and fundraising event to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling cancer. Thousands of participants raise funds for vital research and patient services and on these special nights they carry illuminated lanterns in support of those who have survived, those battling and those who have lost their fight with cancer. The link is below to see the work Chip is helping with for that cause. https://www.charlesesten.com/lls AN incredible episode. Lap it up people. It is a beautiful listen.
