Will and Jaren hop back on after almost a 2 week sabbatical from doing any podcasts together to fully wrap up the Mavs Las Vegas Summer League trip and their last game against the Atlanta Hawks in which they routed them fairly easily in a final score of 101-80. They talk about everyone who stood out in Summer League from promising un-drafted players like Jordan "Jelly" Walker, Taze Moore, and Brandon Randolph to rookie standouts and 2-way players who developed marginally throughout Summer League such as Dereck Lively, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, AJ Lawson, and Mike Miles Jr. They talk about all of their respected roles, how what they did in Summer League could translate to the NBA level, and what each prospect still needs to work on post-Vegas. They also commend Summer League head coach Jared Dudley for his work with the Mavs younger players and finish their summer league wrap up by commending Nico Harrison and the Mavs scouting department for shifting the culture in terms of the Mavs developmental system with young players given it will likely be an integral bridge to success if Luka Doncic stays and Kyrie Irving leaves Dallas or exceeds his prime in the coming years. Lastly, they wrap up with some sprinkles of news and rumors throughout the last 2 weeks such as what the Mavericks might do via trade to address the center position or what they may do with their remaining $6 million that they still have left in their mid-level exception. -Follow us on Twitter @Mainstream214 and like, subscribe, and give us a good rating or comment down below on whatever listening platform you are listening on, thank you for listening to this podcast and supporting!
In this episode Rohan and Vinay talk to fans about the Mavs' 111-103 victory over the Summer League Philadelphia 76ers, which was the first Summer League win for the Mavs since 2021. A well-deserved victory that saw key contributions from the young Mavericks Jaden Hardy, Dereck Lively, and OMax Prosper. It also featured good moments from Jordan "Jelly" Walker and Taze Moore. Coaching adjustments from Jared Dudley and God Shammgod were very apparent in this one as well. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mavsfilmroom/message

The Underdogs Podcast with Jordan Daly, Mike Taylor, and Craig Smith
This is one of the League's greatest unknown stories. For those who haven't lived it, many believe making it to the NBA is the hardest part, but it's not - staying in the league is harder. Bobby starts his basketball career in his home city of Compton, where he played on one of the greatest high school basketball teams of all time, alongside the most coveted draft prospect in Tyson Chandler - Dominguez High School. After transferring schools during his junior year of high school due to controversy from the team's coach, Bobby had to learn how to cope with change early on. During the college recruiting process, Bobby decided to stay on the west coast. Bobby goes into detail on how the September 11th attacks actually affected his college decision, pushing him away from selecting Boston College to play alongside Craig Smith and Jared Dudley. Deciding on Washington, Bobby played alongside basketball greats Brandon Roy and Nate Robinson. He was a 4-year starter, proving his talent enough to get drafted into the NBA. We also talk about Bobby and Craig's time on Team USA, winning the gold medal. Bobby's rookie year was spent with the Philadelphia 76ers. His sophomore year was when things went crazy. Bobby spent his second and final year in the NBA playing for an NBA record 5 teams. Starting with the Denver Nuggets, Bobby then went to the Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, and finally to the San Antonio Spurs. This has us talk about the struggle of staying in the league and what it takes. We also break down the mental health effects of 10-day contracts and constantly fighting for your life to stay on a roster. We then talk about Bobby's overseas experiences, his filmmaking journey, and what he is up to now. In this episode of the podcast, Bibs and Reese string together a myriad of Dallas Mavericks related topics that came up over the course of the week. After catching up for the week, the Outsiders get into the 3-team trade that sent Lauri Markkanen to Cleveland, Derrick Jones Jr. to Chicago, and Larry Nance Jr. to Portland. We specifically talked about the way this trade would impact the Portland Trail Blazers and what the Cleveland Cavaliers might have been thinking when they pulled the trigger. From there, we went on to talk about Jared Dudley being added as an assistant, KP's photoshoots, as well as Luka and the hookah. The theme of the week being "people need to stop overreacting" as all of these topics sparked way more controversy than is necessary. Finally, we talked about the Mavs making the decision to waive Nate Hinton as well as friend of the show Dalton Trigg sitting down with the other 2-way signee, Eugene Omoruyi. 01:50 - 11:29 Intros 11:43 - 19:09 Lauri Markkanen trade 19:31 - 24:31 Jared Dudley signing 24:41 - 27:00 KP Photoshoots 27:10 - 31:49 Hookah Doncic 33:07 - 41:35 Nate Hinton waived 41:47 - 46:54 Eugene Omoruyi interview with Dalton Trigg of the Mavs Stepback podcast. For all the consternation about roster moves, who came and who went for the Lakers this offseason, it was widely assumed for at least the first portion of the summer that the team would bring Jared Dudley back for another season serving as the official glue of the locker room. That presumption began to crumble last week with reports the Lakers were working out players to fill a couple empty roster spots, while also planning to keep a third one open... which would squeeze Duds out. Maybe they'd open a spot on the coaching staff?Nope, they didn't. But Jason Kidd made room (on the front of the bench, no less) for Dudley on his new staff in Dallas, and with that, the Jared Dudley Era is over. There was at least a little angst on the part of fans, some of whom wanted him back for as little as it would have cost the Lakers, and in the media (a scathing column from Bill Plaschke at the LA Times) that the Lakers would so casually let a player who meant so much to team chemistry walk. Are they making a mistake? If nothing else, LeBron James expressed some disappointment. But what does it mean for the Lakers if they miss Dudley too much this season? Then, it's time for a new segment... What If? Taking hypotheticals tossed out by listeners/viewers, and play out the scenarios on the pod. One popular one submitted by a few people: What if the Lakers HAD traded Andrew Bynum for Jason Kidd back in 2007? The downstream implications to this one are significant.HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: Jared Dudley is gone... should it matter that much?SEGMENT 2: LeBron hit social media to react to Dudley leaving. Should anyone worry that he seemed kinda down? Then it's hypothetical time! What if Kidd had become a Laker in '07? Does Pau Gasol ever join the team? What happens to the Dwight Howard 1.0 Era, short as it was. Do the Lakers lose out on one Gasol, but eventually build around another, because they never actually trade Marc?SEGMENT 3: More on (pretend) Kidd-to-LA... so if the Lakers make the trade, the Summer of '07, with the parking lot video and the radio tour and all the craziness, never happens, right? To what end?Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!SweatBlockGet it today for 20% off at SweatBlock.com with promo code LockedOn, or at Amazon and CVS.Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. On Tuesday the Big Ten, ACC and Pac-12 announced the much talked of "alliance". This new partnership looked to create a vision of shared values, and push back against the SEC Evil Empire. This would include exciting new scheduling opportunities that spanned the country spanning California to Massachusetts. It seemed great, and wonderful. Until we heard that it wasn't anything in writing at all. Nope. Just a handshake deal between the three commissioners. The air in the balloon deflated, and we will talk all about this, and what it all means, and why none of it might ever happen. In addition, Jared Dudley is now an assistant coach of the Dallas Mavericks. It's that time of the year when the NBA starts leaking some games on the schedule before the official release. And because the Lakers are who they are, they'll inevitably end up among those in the mix. Thus, it's no surprise that among the three days' worth of games announced, the Lakers are included in each of them. They'll be hosting the Golden State Warriors on opening night (Oct.19), followed by the Phoenix Suns later that week (Oct. 22). And in news that should shock roughly nobody, the Christmas Day extravaganza will feature the Lakers vs. the Brooklyn Nets in what is the marquee-est of marquee matches. It is by definition too early to know much of anything meaningful, but how do the Kamenetzkys think the Lakers match up against these three very different teams, and what do they think of the games in general? From there, they discuss the report from Yahoo!'s Chris Haynes that the Lakers worked out free agent guards Isaiah Thomas, Darren Collison and Mike James. (LeBron James and Russell Westbrook even took part in Thomas' workout!) Do these three guys make sense for the roster? Are there better options who'd fill greater areas of need still on the market? Either way, according to Haynes, the Lakers' plan to potentially sign two free agents and leave the final roster spot open would likely mean deep reserve Jared Dudley likely won't return.Hosts: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: A look at the opening day game vs. Golden State. Can the Warriors regain their old form and challenge the Lakers for the Western Conference crown? (A lot will depend on Klay Thompson's health.)SEGMENT 2: We also know the exact dates of games against the Suns and Nets. How do the Lakers match up now against the 2021 Western Conference champs? Or Brooklyn, the betting favorite to win it all?SEGMENT 3: Free agents are working out in El Segundo! Who makes sense? Who doesn't? Who else should get a look?Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!SweatBlockGet it today for 20% off at SweatBlock.com with promo code LockedOn, or at Amazon and CVS.Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. The Lakers are the Oldest team in the NBA -The Los Angeles Lakers have filled out most of the roster and we are at the point in the offseason where the team is going to explore its final roster options. This will likely include the team signing a locker room veteran (such as Jared Dudley) but it could also include a young player to develop or a sharpshooter to help the rotation. It would not be all that surprising to see the Lakers also leave one open roster spot for a future 10-day contract or buyout signing. It is smart to go into the season with 14 players instead of 15. The Lakers are currently at 12.There has been a bit of a trend this offseason as Rob Pelinka has brought back four players who were formerly on the Lakers. Dwight Howard, Trevor Ariza, Wayne Ellington and Kent Bazemore are all former Lakers. We have explored some of the former Lakers on the market but one name that has not come up much is Isaiah Thomas — who is in the news right now as he dropped an 81-point game, Kobe Bryant style…
On Wednesday's show, the Kamenetzky's welcome the great Mo Dakhil, of Bleacher Report and The Athletic, keeper of a great Twitter and Twitch feed (MoDakhil_NBA) that'll teach you all sorts of stuff about basketball. Well, we have more to give from that conversation. Mo digs into Anthony Davis, and whether he's able/ready to take the torch from LeBron James, as Jared Dudley suggested he could during exit interviews. What does that even mean? Is it possible while LeBron is still active? But first, LeBron himself is in the news. First, for making the 2nd team All-NBA squad, and then for sounding off on Twitter at the NBA's schedule makers after a rash of injuries again impacted the NBA playoffs. Safe to say, he's not happy. The KamBrothers discuss.Hosts: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: The Kamenetzkys react to LeBron getting named to the All-NBA second team, as well as his public criticism of the NBA's truncated 2021 schedule. How justified was he in both situations?SEGMENT 2: More Wednesday's conversation with Mo! How close is Anthony Davis to being "the man" in LA? Can he take the metaphorical torch from LeBron as early as next season, as Jared Dudley suggests?SEGMENT 3: How much does playing center really impact A.D.? Did Andre Drummond represent an obstacle for him to perform? Or is A.D. more the captain of his own ship?Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Jason Kidd is always a hot name for coaching searches, and this offseason is no exception. The Lakers' assistant coach will reportedly interview with the Orlando Magic, which prompts a discussion about his credentials... and also his off-court baggage. It's also the anniversary of the Lakers' 2009 championship, which the Kamenetzkys covered. What are the biggest memories of that team? And finally, they kick off a series examining the performance of key players. It begins with the back of the rotation: Markieff Morris, Jared Dudley and Ben McLemore.Hosts: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: It feels like Kidd will be coaching somewhere else next season, despite a mediocre reputation as a tactician and many past transgressions away from the court. The Kamenetzkys discuss the compartmentalization allowing this to happen, as well as what traits the Lakers should target in his replacement.SEGMENT 2: Twelve years ago, the Lakers won title #16, and Kobe Bryant's first as the team's unquestioned leader. Are there commonalities between that team's arc and what LeBron James and Anthony Davis are currently experiencing?SEGMENT 3: A series examining the seasons of different Lakers: What can be learned, in terms of roster construction, from several back-of-the-rotation players?Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. The NBA regular season is officially in the books, and the Lakers are finally at full strength! Which is fortunate, because they're gonna need all hands on deck and healthy for a play-in game vs. the Golden State Warriors and Steph Curry. At stake? The seven seed, and a first round matchup against the Phoenix Suns. LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Dennis Schröder were back in the starting lineup, and save LeBron's minor (?) ankle tweak during Sunday's win over the Pelicans, looked like themselves. For that matter, Andre Drummond is also appearing more comfortable in his projected role as a high-end role player. Still, the team may have momentum heading into the playoffs, but their continuity is nonetheless lacking. With that in mind, would an opponent be better off facing the Lakers earlier in the playoffs rather than later? Reserve forward/postgame interview specialist Jared Dudley thinks so.Hosts: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: A health rundown for the Lakers' top 3 scorers. LeBron has looked far better than during his previous unsuccessful return from a high ankle sprain, but tweaked again it on Sunday. Andy didn't think it was a particularly big deal, but Brian is concerned. Davis doesn't appear to be laboring physically at all. Schröder played better as the weekend progressed, but confused everyone during his postgame media session when he addressed his situation in the Covid health and safety protocol.SEGMENT 2: Drummond's transition with the Lakers hasn't been particularly smooth, but the last several games have been very promising, especially playing alongside the projected starting lineup. Has he actually discovered a groove and role that works?SEGMENT 3: There's a narrative among basketball observers that teams around the league were tanking games to avoid having to see the Lakers early. Dudley thinks it's a mistake. The Kamenetzkys discuss.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar.
