Hear about four book recommendations on art, nature, magical creatures, and the joy of pet adoption, from Carol Roberts, head of youth services at Troy Public Library. "What's the Point of Art?" (Kay, Fischer, & Atkinson, 2024) explores the history of art from cave paintings through modern day, looking at specific movements & artists, as well as the purposes and contexts for art. The picture book "Night Walk" (Jason Cockcroft, 2024), showing a grandfather and child walking through nature on paths the deceased grandmother loved, could help with conversations of memories as well as nature. "The Bedtime Book of Magical Creatures" (Krensky, 2024) showcases creatures from countries and mythologies around the world. "Jump for Joy" (Ruelle, 2024) is a tandem story of loneliness changed by the pairing of a girl and her adopted dog. While aimed mostly at younger readers, people of all ages can enjoy these picks. For more details, including the illustrators of the fine artwork in each book, see www.thetroylibrary.org. Produced by Brea Barthel for Hudson Mohawk Magazine.

In this episode, we take you deep into the heart of Costa Rica's Volcan Tenorio, where nature and mystery intertwine. Our adventure continues with park ranger Cecilia, who guides us through the pathways, unveiling its secrets one by one. From the startling encounter with a Bocaraca serpent to the sight of a toucan and pavas perched high above us, Cecilia shares her deep knowledge of the park's ecosystem and history. As we walk, the sounds of the jungle come alive, accompanied by Cecilia's stories of conservation, advocacy and the park's hidden treasures. We also meet her boss, Isaac, and a group of eager students from UCR, who add their own perspectives to the journey. But as dusk settles in and the forest grows darker, our mission to capture the sounds of Tenorio takes on a new urgency. The fading light brings excitement and a hint of danger, and sounds become augmented, turning our soundwalk into a race against time. Join us as we navigate the twilight, capturing the essence of Volcan Tenorio in an unforgettable adventure that blends wisdom, nature, and the thrill of the unknown. LONG PAUSE Now, draw in another breath, and trace its path as it opens and relaxes any tension in your body. LONG PAUSE Imagine yourself walking on a city sidewalk in the cool of the evening, in a city full of life. PAUSE And, as you walk along the sidewalk, you notice lights all around you, lights full of colors, pulsing in the night air. PAUSE And along your walk, you pass people sitting at an outdoor cafe, laughing, eating, and sipping cappuccino. PAUSE You give the people a smile and a gesture of “hello.” And the people smile in return and nod to you as you pass by. PAUSE Now, imagine something in the sky that catches your attention– lights and colors from fireworks burst across the sky. PAUSE You stop for a moment and take in the magic of the beautiful flowery shapes that open then cascade from the sky. PAUSE You look around at the people who “Oooh” and “Awww” in pure joy as each firework blossoms, one right after the other. PAUSE Then you continue along your walk, until you reach a bookstore, open and alive with people of the night. PAUSE You enter the bookstore and listen as a young couple reads poetry to each other, eyes smiling with love. PAUSE Your eye catches an older man, with a beard and black glasses, cozied up in a big, fluffy chair, turning the pages of a philosophy book. PAUSE And as you walk deeper into the store, you notice the shelves and shelves of books– books of all colors, shapes, and sizes. PAUSE While looking at the books, you pass a row where one book stands out, where one book calls to you. PAUSE You go to the book and remove it from the shelf. The book feels comfortable, familiar, so you open it. PAUSE As you look at the page, words pop out. They twist and turn until they form a message of encouragement just for you. What do those words say? PAUSE You pull the book to your heart and listen, as your mind whispers, the message again and again, until the message is nestled into your heart and mind. PAUSE And then, after a moment, you close the book and quietly thank it for the message, as you gently place it on the shelf. PAUSE Then you leave the bookstore and begin walking again. The cool air kisses your cheeks and you draw a sweater in tight. PAUSE You walk to another cafe where people laugh, eat, and sip cappuccino. And you order something to warm you inside, something you swirl, as the steam climbs from the cup. PAUSE While seated at the cafe, you pull out a pen and jot the encouraging words on a napkin. Then tuck the napkin in a pocket. PAUSE You sip your warm drink and put your hand on the napkin. And as the warmth from your drink spreads through you, so do the words on the napkin. They become part of you. PAUSE You draw in a deep breath, take one more sip of your drink, and then walk away in the night, knowing the words from the book are now your words of truth. Namaste, Beautiful

I've had enough of winter. So let's go from the freezing snows of Wisconsin to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia courtesy of this excellent mix from Paul Asbury Seaman. I love the "night/walking/hiking" theme of this set. Here's Paul's thoughts on the mix: “One of my best memories, in my whole life, was taking an all-night hike by myself in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, arriving at the peak just in time to catch the sunrise from the top of Old Rag, famous for its 360 degree view. This program is part of my Mystical Ambient series and I've tried to capture the hushed sense of wonder of both the forest at night and the star-filled sky. I hope the music warms your winter dreams. As a side note, when I was gathering tracks for this mix, I didn't set out to make piano the primary instrument, that's just the way it turned out. And beautifully so, IMHO.” Thanks for another great contribution, Paul. Wind whips over ice, Fingers numb, breath clouds the air, Sun a pale, cold eye. First comes the snow, then the cold. Bitter cold. Ugh, remind me again why I live here. I couldn't resist a quick following up the snow mix with a frozen mix. Just like the snow mix, all the tracks here have cold words in their titles. I really liked putting two tracks from Harry Towell back-to-back. One new one from last year called Coldspell and then one from all the way back in 2010 that he released under his Spheruleus moniker called simply, Frozen.

Pomapno has its share of violence and challenges like any other urban community in the U.S. Dayvona Johnson, Delana James, a teenage boy, and a man were shot at about 9 p.m., on Feb. 26, in a convenience store in Pompano Beach, according to deputies. James, who was pregnant, and Johnson didn't survive. Growing Up What would you think of me now? I've done my best to make you proud. I've done all the things you dreamed about, more or less You used to walk in daydreams I remember how deeply you'd feel things Always lost in your imaginings, barefoot, in your long dress I became a person that now makes me cringe The way I never learned how to be a friend I even contemplated bringing myself to an end, I confess But you were always in the back of my mind So innocent, hopeful, happy, and kind Every day so determined to find That magic light inside, a true princess Although I hope that you'd be proud Of the person that I am now I wonder if you'd wish I'd gone a different route done more or less of the things you dreamed about More, or less? - Ozley Song is Night Walk by Gavin Luke
Sean Stone discusses where we are in the New World Order and how the elites are now openly showing their hands full force. America and the world have always been at war with this imperial faction. We're at the dawn of a new age where he's optimistic and thinks people will not go along with The Great Reset. The NWO system doesn't have the energy behind it and is collapsing. He feels the human spirit is so powerful that it's overthrown every empire that's come our way. His documentary series Best Kept Secret looks at the black economy and underbelly of geopolitics and empire (e.g. drug and human trafficking, pedophilia, occultism, mind control). Sean discusses the war on Russia via Ukraine and doesn't feel we'll end up with nuclear war, rather that Russia is the vanguard for the new alternative and multipolar world order.
