La Crosse City Council members Erin Goggin and Mark Neumann in studio to help explain and preview one of the city's biggest committees, Finance and Personnel. We discuss some of the budget items, like short-term rentals, what the F&P committee represents and how the public can get involved. Other agenda items we discussed broadly was the fire chief saving the city $800,000, a couple of lease agreements, and "public way vacations." In regards to short-term rentals we dissected, a bit, how both of the city's big committees work somewhat in unison on legislation, such as short-term rentals. The F&P committee meets at 6 p.m. Thursday at city hall and online. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
A two-guest Wednesday, as Lisa Davis Olson dropped by the studio to talk about talking and her upcoming book release. After that, city councilman Mark Neumann joins to discuss the passage of the La Crosse 2024 budget, that includes a tax increase. With Olson in studio, we discuss, of course, the book, called, “From the Spotlight to Real Life,” and how the Nov. 25 launch isn't just some boring book signing — it's an improv show from 2-4 p.m. at the Pump House in downtown La Crosse. Olson has built a public speaking career on how to speak — but not just to the public or in public, but in every day life, too. After that, La Crosse city councilman Mark Neumann joins to talk about the 2024 budget that passed Monday at a public hearing that saw just one person from the public talk. We discuss some of the details in and out of the budget and why taxes are going up about 8% — up around $105 per $150,000 of property tax value.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers join to talk about child care funding in the state. In between that, we asked the governor if the La Crosse area is his favorite part of the state, as he's been to Western Wisconsin 30 times this year already. We also get him to define what it means when someone says they're going "Up north." After that, La Crosse city council member Dr. Mark Neumann joins to continue the conversation about childcare, as the council just passed $400,000 in ARPA funding to help there. We also asked Neumann about the legislation passed last week that better defines camping — or no camping — in the city, as there have been complaints about homeless people in parks. La Crosse city council member Dr. Mark Neumann in studio, discussing city development moving forward — like River Point District — as well as the council decisions on the eight-year Climate Action Plan and the senior center building sale offer. Neumann also discussed Mayor Mitch Reynolds' state of the city address. Began the show talking about Neumann the retired pediatric critical care doctor, who spent quite a few years working in Africa.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Guest – Dr. Mark Neumann, Democratic Candidate WI 3rd District We conclude our interviews with the four candidates seeking the Democratic nomination to run in the 3rd Congressional District this fall with Mark Neumann, a physician who makes health care—especially Medicare for All—the centerpiece of his campaign.
National Healthcare has been an enduring electoral and life issue for many decades, with advocacy for Single Payer or Medicare For All platforms ever more popular. Myron Buchholz taught history in high schools for around 30 years, and he combines his historical perspective on the issue with his personal experience with the “healthcare” system to advocate for a single payer system in the US.

Seventeen years in, one man's passion for hunting, helping others and a heart for the Lord has culminated into an amazing body of work coming out of southeastern Wisconsin. Little did Mark Neumann know that a love of the outdoors and his HUNT4LIFE license plate would become the catalyst for a ministry raising over a half a million dollars a year.A one day shooting extravaganza held each October at Milford Hills in Johnson Creek, the annual Hunt 4 Life Foundation brought in over $600,000 in 2021 with the ultimate goal to surpass the $1,000,000 threshold for this amazing event. They are mobilizing those funds by partnering with two live changing ministries: Operation Heal Our Patriots and Life Camp USA. The first is an Alaskan retreat for Military and First Responder couples struggling in their marriages put on my Samaritan's Purse. The latter is coming alongside 7th and 8th grade boys who have lost their fathers in the line of service by hosting a one week camp. Teaching them life skills with one on one mentoring from "uncles", Life Camp USA will host three events in 2022, one in Wisconsin, one in Colorado and one in South Carolina. Trevor Fabian also joins us and discusses his new role as the Special Ops Director for Hunt 4 Life and Life Camp USA. A Veteran of the United States Air Force, Trevor brings his first hand experiences from his time in the service and dealing with the aftermath these families face after such a significant loss.It goes without saying that the work that Hunt 4 Life and Life Camp USA are doing is transforming lives. They are filling a gap that our government and few others across the country are addressing. The exciting part is that there is so much room for growth in this space and the idea is being floated around of franchise opportunities expand this ministry to other states. If this is something that moves you and you feel led to learn more, please reach out to Mark through their websites at: www.hunt4lifefoundation.org and www.lifecampusa.orgHHAUSA only recently partnered with these wonderful organizations and we look forward to growing that in the days, months and years ahead. They are truly living out The Great Commission set forth by Christ over 2,000 years ago and we are thankful to have crossed paths with the, ready to roll up our sleeves and do God's work, continuing to serve in any way that we can. Will you join us?
Dr. Mark Neumann joined. He's the District 13 city council member, representing the area that includes the motel La Crosse just purchased to help the homeless through bridge housing. He's also running in the 3rd Congressional District for US House of Representatives. A lot of the discussion around issues affecting the area centered around how the community interacts with its representatives or how its reps interact with the community. Talked with RepresentUs Connor Glassen about the redistricting process in Wisconsin and the gerrymandered maps. 29.05.2019 - Equip Session 6 - La Parole Et L'Esprit // The Word And The Spirit (Mark Neumann) by La Cité
In this episode I read Chapter 2: "Sonic compositions" from the book Recording culture by Daniel Makagon and Mark Neumann. This book can be understood as one of the most important reflections on the increasingly popular methods in ethnographic field work using recording technology. Besides this it is exceptionally well written. The second chapter discusses some genres and formats of academic but mostly non-academic audio works (soundscapes, soundwalks and sonic maps, radio diaries and audio essays, audio documentaries) and their relevance and possibilities as genres of academic discourse. I originally read this text for the seminar "Writing culture - recording culture" I taught in the spring term of 2019 at the university of Bern. Bibliography: Makagon, Daniel und Mark Neumann. 2009. Recording culture: audio documentary and the ethnographic experience. Los Angeles: SAGE.
In this episode I read Chapter 1: "Writing Culture - Recording Culture" from the book "Recording culture" by Daniel Makagon and Mark Neumann. This book can be understood as one of the most important reflections on the increasingly popular methods in ethnographic field work using recording technology. Besides this it is exceptionally well written. The first chapter sheds some light on the context of the so-called "writing culture debate" as a context for equally important reflexions of recording practices as method and means of the study of culture. NAACL 2018 paper, by Matt Peters, Mark Neumann, Mohit Iyyer, Matt Gardner, Chris Clark, Kenton Lee, and Luke Zettlemoyer. In this episode, AI2's own Matt Peters comes on the show to talk about his recent work on ELMo embeddings, what some have called "the next word2vec". Matt has shown very convincingly that using a pre-trained bidirectional language model to get contextualized word representations performs substantially better than using static word vectors. He comes on the show to give us some more intuition about how and why this works, and to talk about some of the other things he tried and what's coming next. https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Deep-contextualized-word-representations-Peters-Neumann/4b17597b856c087f109381ce77d60d9017cb6f9a
