Can you maintain a close relationship with your best friends from high school? What's it like to have a port wine birthmark? How many guys say they've been cheated on? And…what's up with the Israeli-Palestinian peace process? One of these things is obviously not like the others, which is why we leave it to you to discover rather than wading into the quagmire ourselves. But! We also tell you about Mike Clark, the adorable new Sassiest Boy In America; an enjoyably offbeat fiction story; and what we think of abbreviating the word "tampons" to just "'pons." Light some incense -- ASSUMING YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY DONE THAT A BUNCH THIS WEEK -- and join us!QUICK LINKS

First Job Stories 3: Anal Glands, That's not a bean burrito by 102.9 The Hog
What’s Your Wrinkle®, the plastic surgery show with Dr. Arthur Perry
There are many stupid things in plastic surgery - on this show, we discuss the removal of submandibular salivary glands. Those are the lumps in the sides of the neck that break up the beautiful contour of a youthful neck. Those lumps make up about 2/3 of your saliva - and when they are removed, you might have dry mouth symptoms, or your might have more tooth decay, or you might require lemony squirts in your mouth the rest of your life just so you can speak and swallow properly. So, why on earth would you want to remove those glands? For the purpose of maybe looking a little better? Oh come on now.....
This episode breaks down why anal glands exist, how they work, and the common problems pets can have—from impactions and infections to abscesses and rare cancers. Hosts, Dr. Natalie Brackeen and Dr. Josiah Dame, explain symptoms to watch for (scooting, tail tucking, straining), how internal vs. external expressions are done, treatment options, and prevention tips like diet, weight management, and allergy control.
David Barbe grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, where he attended Ridgeview High School and began playing in bands during the 1970s. Barbe's parents were influential in his love as music as both his parents, John and Jane Barbe were big band musicians as well as creating Jingles.David Barbe arrived in Athens, Georgia in 1981 to attend the University of Georgia, and stepped straight into a music scene that would help shape his entire life. The move to Athens quickly found Barbe immersed in the creative energy of the music in Athens—playing with local punk bands like Bar-B-Que Killers, Mercyland and later Buzz Hungry . When Mercyland disbanded in 1991, Barbe didn't slow down. While taking the lead in Buzz Hungry, he caught the attention of Bob Mould from the band Husker Du and joined his band Sugar, a band that was part of an explosion of indie alternative rock, helping to shape Sugar's evolving sound before departing in 1995. Years later, that musical connection would come full circle with a reunion performance at the Treasure Island Music Festival in 2009.But one of the most defining turns in Barbe's story happened behind the scenes. A call from John Keane opened the door to studio work—and a whole new creative path. Under Keane's mentorship, Barbe mastered the art of production and engineering, laying the foundation for what would become an extraordinary part of his life, losing count of up to 400 albums he has produced, mixed or engineered. In 1997, he co-founded Chase Park Transduction in Athens, a studio that would become a cornerstone of the city's music legacy. From there, Barbe went on to produce hundreds of records—working with artists like Drive-By Truckers, Deerhunter, The Glands, Amy Ray, k.d. lang, and R.E.M.. Somewhere along the way, the number of albums he's worked on climbed into the hundreds—so many, he's stopped counting. And as if that weren't enough, Barbe continues to shape the next generation of artists as director of the Music Business Certificate Program at the University of Georgia—bringing his journey full circle, right back to where it all began.Barbe, a firm believer of family first — and his wife, Amy, have three children — a daughter and 2 sons. . He is a past president of the Athens-Clarke County Little League baseball league and has managed his sons' all-star teams to several city championships.Barbe's name has been equated as one of the best producers in Athens, attracting bands from all over. He has been a stronghold for musicians here for a long time and I don't see him stopping any time soon.Barbe gave me the opportunity to ask him about things he doesn't necessarily get a chance to answer often. Here is me, talking to David Barbe.AthCastMusic (©): The Music of Athens Georgia, Now and ThenSEASON: 5 EPISODE: 57LENGTH: :55PUBLISHED: April 16, 2026UPDATED WEEKLY ON THURSDAY's or FridaysENGINEER: KAYLA DOVERRECORDED AT TWEED RECORDING AUDIO PRODUCTION SCHOOLhttps://tweedrecording.com Produced by Marlene Sokol StewartPhotos and Camera: Raya Ackleh Contact for David Barbe: dbarbe@uga.eduEmail: marlene@athcastmusic.comInstagram: AthCastMusicFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61550294283019THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO ATHCASTMUSIC WHERE YOU LISTEN TO PODCASTS. Continuing and finishing the skin structure and growth of the Stateboard Study Series. This is all part of the skin portion to help prepare you for the Stateboard licensing exam. Now here's the thing and I say this in my podcast, if you are in another state that does the NIC testing, or CIB this may be of some assistance to you for your written test at least. This should be used as an Aid to your studies. Some people learn from hearing (Audio) Learners, but I do encourage you to review your little exam book, as well as your text book, though this goes hand in hand with it. I'm using the latest version of the Milady Textbook, however, those of you who are learning from Pivot Point, the information is the same, just presented differently. With School, your studying sessions, along with this Podcast, you should be on the right track to getting your license. I hope this will help you, and please share with others who may be struggling with their test, or they are getting ready to test. Thank you so much, and stay tuned for Hair Removal next in the Stateboard Study Series of Ms. V's Real Beauty Talk, and check me out on YouTube as well Ms. V's Beauty Tutorials.

So… I turned 40. And like any doctor staring down middle age, I celebrated by talking about colonoscopy prep. This week, Kristin and I unpack everything that happens to your body when you hit your forties, from dry eyes and presbyopia to statins and perimenopause. (Don't worry, it's still funny.) We talk about getting old, staying healthy, and why I'm way too excited to film my own colonoscopy. Then things take a turn for the scientific. We dive into the pituitary gland, why I called it the “testicles of the brain,” and how hormones control everything from stress to growth. It's nerdy, it's mildly horrifying, and it ends with Kristin explaining why my “cosmic homeostasis” theory probably isn't real science. Takeaways: Forty Feels Weird: A doctor's honest reflection on aging, purpose, and “good fruit.” Colonoscopy Countdown: Why I'm actually excited for mine (and how I plan to turn it into content). Presbyopia Panic: Kristin's war with contacts and my unsolicited ophthalmology advice. The Pituitary Deep Dive : Hormones, feedback loops, and why I shouldn't have called them “pitu balls.” Cosmic Homeostasis: My new theory on how the universe balances good luck, bad luck… and testicles. — To Get Tickets to Wife & Death: You can visit Glaucomflecken.com/live We want to hear YOUR stories (and medical puns)!
