Born in Washington, D.C., Uriah is a Master Cosmetologist and the creator and founder of JustSkin, a natural skincare line made with organic and high quality ingredients. Shortly after moving to China, Uriah realized that there was a lack of recognizable and available skincare products, especially those without the possibility of having whitening agents in them. For years, she made products only for herself and gifted them for birthdays or as tokens of appreciation. After recognizing that there was a high demand for great skincare products, Uriah decided that she would share the goodness of her products with everyone. Using her professional expertise, she formulates her handmade products in Beijing. The products are great for anyone who wants to explore and cultivate a healthy skincare regimen. Uriah also serves as an educator at an international school in Beijing. In her own words, "It's most rewarding to show up as your full, authentic self." When we’re caught up in the hustle and bustle of running our businesses, it’s easy to lose sight of the impact we’re making on our clients. However, sometimes even the smallest service we provide can make all the difference in someone else’s life. As business owners, we have the potential to transform our clients’ lives, from how they get things done, to how they feel about themselves. Wouldn’t it be great to tap into that power and use it for good? How can we channel our energies into creating something that truly makes a difference in our clients’ lives, so they can shine a little brighter in their own world and pay it forward? In this episode, Co-CEO and Master Cosmetologist at Transformations Beauty Studio, Derricka Traylor shares how she’s built a hair salon that goes beyond offering a service. Three Things You’ll Learn in This Episode How to use our businesses to create safe spaces for women: Creating an environment where women can share their stories, catch up with friends and truly unwind does more good than we sometimes realize. Make a point of building genuine relationships with clients so they feel comfortable in the space. The key to connecting with clients on a deeper level: It’s one thing to listen to clients when they’re talking, it’s another to remember small details and check in with them a couple weeks down the line. Get invested in their lives and show them their stories are worthy of attention and love. How to unwind in times of trauma: We all go through difficult periods, and the key to surviving them lies in relaxing activities. This could be reading, catching up with a friend, or even going to the salon, but the most important thing is to find what works for us. Guest Bio- A woman with exceptional strength, especially one who successfully manages a home, brings up children, and has a full-time job is identified as Superwoman. Derricka Traylor is Superwoman without a cape. Born and raised in Atlanta, GA Derricka is the Co-CEO and Master Cosmetologist at Transformations Beauty Studio. Not only does she run a successful salon with her twin sister Erricka Traylor, but she is also a proud mom to two amazing boys and a wife of eight years. From a young age, Derricka has had a passion for the beauty industry. She was introduced to cosmetology as a child, washing hair in her grandfather's salon. In 2010 she pursued her dreams of becoming a Master Cosmetologist and obtained her license. However, in 2015, her life took a turn for the worse. Derricka, her husband at the time, and young son experienced a home invasion, leaving her husband learning to walk again and leaving their family to rebuild from nothing. Being left with trauma and much confusion, Derricka began to lose herself. From that day forward she realized how important it was to have multiple streams of income and a place women could let go, rebuild, and transform from traumatic moments in their life. When she’s not doing the hair of your favorite celebrities, she’s reading, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family. Being big on family and generational wealth, Derricka is seeking to have multiple rental properties to pass down to her kids. Pushing her philanthropy effort, she plans on developing an organization to empower and encourage people. As she continues to grow in her career, she plans to expand TBS with her sister and open a beauty school. Our Esteemed Guest for Today is Master Cosmetologist and entrepreneur Phoenix Jean-Michel Phoenix Jean-Michel, 24 year old Master Cosmetologist and entrepreneur, who happens to be a single mother. For years I had walked through life broken and alone unaware how to love myself, but how could I? Myself worth was gone and all though I never lost the drive to work hard I lost myself in a world I was never ready for. My mission as a cosmetologist is to not only make you love what you see on the outside but fall in love with who you are as a person on the inside. Today society has altered young adults on what beauty is supposed to look like. How do we change our generations to come? Well we must look at our young adults like myself who end up pregnant and broken trying to raise children and the cycle continues. I want to be that voice. I know as a young adult we do not always want to take advice from elders because we feel like they have no idea what we go through. But when you put a face like mine, a young adult that has literally just climbed through the puddle of adversity they tend to actually listen because I can relate. I may not be a millionaire but I am a survivor and I know that there are many teens and young adults just like me that need to know I SEE YOU.
