What can I say about this episode?  It runs the gamut.  The main topic is the Triangle Shirtwaiste Fire and how two businessmen who were in the habit of locking doors while employees worked doomed 147 mostly immigrants and women to their deaths.  We talk the history of the company, the state of the US for workers in 1911 and the fire itself.  We also cover the trial and the legacy of the fire.  Arthur reminisces about his trip to Planet Comicon, and talks the Roblox sensation Dandy's World as we discuss why it's so important why there needs to be laws in place to protect workers in this whole lotta historical, little bit silly but a lotta bit sad episode of the Family Plot Podcast!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/family-plot--4670465/support.

Hello, my name is Tevia Reading, and I am the fourth oldest of 6 siblings. Fun fact, all our names begin with ‘T” – Tony, Tania, Tatum, Tabitha, Talia, Tevia, TJ and Tag.When I was eleven, I faced the unexpected loss of my father. This tragedy shook my world forcing me to adapt quickly to new realities. Losing a parent at a young age left a void that could never be filled, yet it forced me to develop emotional strength and a sense of responsibility. My inspirations come from my dad. As far back as I can remember, my dad put the needs of others before his own and served with love and genuine concern. I confidently and proudly can say I inherited his heart for service and deeply desire to continue his legacy.Throughout high school, I have dedicated myself to supporting and inspiring others. As a student leadership representative and now Student Body President, I work to create a sense of belonging and advocate for those who feel unheard. I volunteer as a teacher's aide, mentor classmates, and organize student activities. I participate in community service and church outreach opportunities. I am enrolled in a Cosmetology program and will graduate as a licensed cosmetologist. I also play field hockey and tennis. My most transformative experience came during a mission trip to Africa. Mozambique was an awakening for me. I spent my days interacting with 78 orphaned children, watching their eyes light up at what most would take for granted. Their hunger for knowledge ignited a fire in me to do more. My time in Africa deepened my understanding of what it means to be a servant leader and instilled in me the importance of education as a tool for empowerment. It became clear I want to dedicate my life to teaching and serving disadvantaged communities at home and abroad. As a future educator, I am excited to devote my life to making a difference through teaching and empowering others to dream beyond their circumstances while honoring my father's legacy of service and compassion. Thank you.*************************************************************Judy is the CEO & Founder of the Judy Carlson Financial Group. This will remove any dirt, product buildup, and dry or flaky skin that can cause a blockage that stunts hair growth. Keeping it clean will also open your pores and allow your beard to grow smoothly through the skin.Step 3—After your beard is clean, you want to add a non-pore-clogging beard moisturizer or oil. This will keep your hair and skin moist to prevent dryness, protect the hair from breakage, and prevent skin cracking. Doing this will also improve your hair and skin's texture. Step 4-Brushing or Combing your beard daily helps distribute the natural oils to moisturize, while stimulating blood flow that can improve beard growth because the more nutrients that are going to your beard follicles will return a healthier beard.Step 5-Maintain a nice curb appeal on your beard keeping your borders (top and bottom) clean and neat by using a trimmer or razor. Catalyst is a Creative Industries podcast, from Chapman University. Each episode features Chapman students who have completed a Podcasting course through the Center for Creative and Cultural Industries at the university. Students who had no podcasting experience or technical ability in the genre before taking the course were able to contribute all the segments to Catalyst this season with the goal being that they will take this ‘hands-on' experience and carry it over to the launching of their very own series. Each episode of Season 12 will feature one to two different interviews conducted by CCI students, exploring different aspects of the Creative and Cultural Industries. To begin our episode this week Annie Hirsch speaks with Debby Pearlman, President and co-founder of SparkBird Productions, a television and film production company based in Los Angeles, California. The pair discuss Debby's years of experience developing show ideas in the television industry including her experience working as Senior Vice President of Development for Bright-Kauffman-Crane which produced the hit television show Friends, and how that compares to her current experience working with her smaller production company. Through the interview Debby discusses her creative process including how she now utilizes social platforms as a tool for her current work. Debby also touches on the importance of acknowledging that every person/department that works on a project is equally important, from producers to actors, screenwriters, original creators, costume designers, etc., as they all play a part in the storytelling. Jordan Miller-Lulla closes out the episode this week with their Claus Lulla Interview. Lulla, who is a two-time Emmy Award-winning makeup artist, discusses with Jordan his career that includes working in the entertainment industry for over 20 years. Starting as a makeup artist working on theater productions in Austria, Claus talks about his later move to Los Angeles and how he worked his way up to films and TV show productions there. Jordan and Claus discuss what attracted Claus to the entertainment industry and what it means to work in a creative field where you are pushed to be a perfectionist and to be highly detail-oriented with your craft. They explore what a typical day of filming looks like in a television production as a makeup artist and what challenges Claus faced as he was starting his career. They wrap the interview with some sage advice for those wanting to enter the competitive and compelling industry of entertainment.

It's bad enough having to work, work, work to eke out a living. But imagine having to fight government bureaucrats for the right to work -- for the right to actually make money to provide for self and family and live independently. Well, think back to the COVID years and that's exactly what so many Americans had to do. They were ordered to stay home, stay off the streets, stay out of work and wait for the stimulus money. But just because COVID's gone doesn't mean Big Government isn't trying to dictate how and whether people can work. Melony Armstrong wanted to keep open her hair braiding business in Mississippi. Government tried to tell her she couldn't, unless she abided by certain ridiculous and costly mandates of the State Board of Cosmetology. So Melony turned to a legal group, the Institute for Justice, to sue. And seven or so years of legal fighting later -- she won. Now imagine that happening to you. Is this America, land of the free? Or not?
