Award-winning journalist and member of the Hockey Hall-of-Fame, Michael Farber, guests on Conversations with Griff. A New Jersey native who paid to see Bruce Springsteen perform for $2.50 at Rutgers University, Farber moved from a Yankees beat in Newark to Montreal to join the Expos beat for The Gazette in 1979. He still lives with his wife Danielle in Montreal and offers up work for TSN television and TSN 690 radio, as well as hockey insights for NBC. Michael and Griff discuss the memorable Expos years from 1979-94, focusing on the special bond those teams had with the city in which they played. Farber recalls the details of his exclusive access and coverage of the Tim Raines drug rehab winter, at age 23, between 1982-83, and the Hall-of-Fame redemption song that followed. Griff and Mike offer their opinions on Expos managers from Dick Williams to Felipe Alou, with personal reflections on all the special moments in those special years of Les Expos, Nos Amours. It's a two-for-one type of day today as we welcome Doug MacLean on to the show to start things off with some hockey talk & then bring Michael Farber on to end the show with Bob and John. After the three finish discussing Morgan Reilly's upcoming hearing with NHL Player Safety, Bob, John and Doug focus on the rather peculiar situation John Tavares has found himself in with the Canada Revenue Agency. Then, sticking to the them of money, or rather money owed, Michael Farber joins the show to give us the details on the 880 dollar renovation to the roof of Olympic Stadium in Montreal.
On why former Expos manager Dick Williams physically assaulted him; on the bliss of writing NHL game stories; on the Canadian appeal of Gary Carter; on the demise of a beloved magazine.

The wickedly talented, remarkably hungover Christian McCann drops back into the pod to talk about his only personality trait: hockey. If you like insurance fraud, broadway plays, or describing labor stoppages using the imagery of an ancient greek myth turned modern broadway musical....you're soooo in luck! This one has three pretty clear acts. Act 1: about 18 minutes of trying our best to choke out any words through the thickened hazy fog of a Disonysian-level hangover. Act 2: The NHLPA's founding executive director, Alan Eagleson, committing a litany of crimes against the players he was meant to represent. Act 3: The introduction of the salary cap -- a move that limits a lot of player's maximum earning potential -- in 2005, as told through poetic and beautiful storytelling. Thanks for listening!
