This one right here… is special. I sat down with one of the biggest influences on my journey — Alan Weiss, the author of Million Dollar Consulting. This is the guy who literally wrote the book on how to build a business around your expertise. I read this book 4 times. If you're a coach, consultant, speaker or just someone trying to turn what you know into impact , you need to hear this. We talked about everything from the truth behind Napoleon Hill to why you don't need an office, a big team, or even a website to become a go-to authority. Alan drops game on what it really takes to become a Million Dollar Consultant. We get into: Why overhead is the enemy of freedomHow to raise your fees without flinchingThe real reason most experts stay invisibleHow to position your value without overexplainingWhat “scope seep” is — and how it's costing you This conversation was an honor for me. If you've ever felt like you're great at what you do but still not getting the recognition or income you deserve, this one's for you. If it resonates, I'd be super grateful if you shared it with a friend or dropped a rating. That's what helps the show grow. If you don't have the psychology figured out, you'll just keep repeating the same patterns that don't make sense. Jason A. Duprat, Entrepreneur, Healthcare Practitioner, and Host of the Healthcare Entrepreneur Academy podcast, sits down with Linzy Bonham, owner of Money Nuts & Bolts and host of the Money Skills for Therapists Podcast. Linzy is a Therapist turned Money-coach that helps empower others to be more confident and in control of their private practice finances. Turn in to learn more about Linzy's journey as well as psychological insights to handling finances. 3 KEY POINTS: Build a business that first takes care of you. It's not difficult to start at something you're already good at. Work with those who can do what you can't or don't want to. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: Linzy started doing social work focused on trauma but realized she had a passion for something other social workers don't: finances. Linzy read a book recommending only starting a private practice after practicing for 5 years. She ignored the advice and began her private practice only one year into being a social worker. She considers this to be her best-ever decision. She started her business, Money Nuts & Bolts, in 2018 As part of her service, Linzy spent $7,000 creating a beautiful space since she wanted to provide a comfortable, calm place for her clients. Profit First is a budgeting system for businesses developed and popularized by Mike Michalowicz wherein you divide your money in advance. This helped unlock clearer budgeting for Linzy and her business. After reading the book "Million Dollar Consultant" recommended by her mentor, Linzy landed a contract of $50,000. Her service consisted of overhauling all finances for her client's business and personal life. Linzy launched an evergreen course called Money Skills for Therapists which aims to help people develop common confidence about their private practice finances. A Scarcity Mindset is thinking that there's "never enough money." No amount of money will fix someone's Scarcity Mindset. If they feel like there's not enough, no amount of proof otherwise will help. To fix it, something deeper needs to be unrooted. TWEETABLE QUOTES: "Ask yourself, what's causing you so much emotional weight that it's worth paying money to fix?" – Linzy Bonham "Put on your own oxygen mask first. Building a business that takes care of you is the best thing you could do for yourself, your business, and your clients." – Linzy Bonham CONNECT WITH JASON DUPRAT LinkedIn | Facebook | Instagram | Youtube Email: support@jasonduprat.com Join our Facebook group: jasonduprat.com/group ABOUT THE GUEST Linzy Bonham is a therapist turned money coach who teaches women therapists and health practitioners the money skills to feel empowered and in control of their private practice finances, so they can have rich and fulfilling lives. Growing a consulting business to seven figures seems an impossible goal for many independent consultants, but it is possible, and my guest today is the Million Dollar Consultant himself, Dr. Alan Weiss. Alan is a polarizing character, probably the most polarizing figure in the consulting industry. During this conversation I ask him about his provocative and contrarian style, and he explains his perspective and why he likes to poke people. At the same time, even those who aren't fans of that style have to acknowledge the huge contributions he has made to the industry through his publishing. His contributions to the body of knowledge are remarkable. In this episode, Alan Weiss and Alastair McDermott discuss building authority through publishing, why to choose a contrarian position, and how to grow a consulting business. They also discuss how to reframe a conversation with clients, why confidence is essential to success in consulting, and the importance of long-term relationships. “I poke people, because people need to be poked! If you're on a plateau, that plateau erodes: the only way to be successful is to continue to grow. The secret to continued growth is innovation.” -- Alan Weiss “How do I differentiate myself? I'm going to disagree with common practice. The readers hated it, wrote letters to the editor. I was so naive, I called to apologize. He said to me: they read it. That was an eye opener.” -- Alan Weiss “There is something worse than no business. It's called bad business. Not all clients are good clients. There are some clients you just don't want to take on. And there are clients you have taken on that you need to fire.” -- Alan Weiss “You have to walk into a client's office as a peer. They might have a larger office, they might have a $3 million or $30 million budget, they might have 1000 people working for them. But you are the expert.” -- Alan Weiss

Asking WHY drives the conversation up, to a more strategic level. Asking HOW drives the conversation down, to an implementation level. So says Alan Weiss, author of The Million Dollar Consultant. That's a great way to think of it. Thanks to Noah Kagan for featuring Alan on a recent episode of his podcast.
