In this episode, we sat down with Richa Gual, CEO of Complyance, the AI-first enterprise GRC platform that recently raised a $20M Series A led by GV (Google Ventures), to dig into how legacy GRC is finally being disrupted and what role AI agents play in that transformation. We discussed why GRC has lived in the dark ages for so long, stuck in static documents, snapshot-in-time assessments, system sampling, and self-attestations while the rest of IT moved to cloud, APIs, and automation. We unpacked the credibility crisis caused by commoditized compliance and rubber-stamp audits, the limits of the first wave of GRC automation, and what genuinely changes when agentic AI takes on evidence review, vendor risk, policy drafting, and customer trust workflows end-to-end.Richa shared Complyance's perspective on building agentic AI for the most sensitive data an organization holds, why explainability and isolation matter more in GRC than almost anywhere else, and how customers like Dropbox, CVS Health, and Major League Soccer are using AI agents to cut manual GRC work by 70% without lowering the assurance bar. We closed on what the next five years look like for the GRC workforce and whether the field can finally restore credibility to the phrase “compliance equals security.”

In this episode of Ojai Talk of the Town, Bret Bradigan sits down with Richa Badami — actor, director, and founder of the Living Theatre Academy of Dramatic Arts in Ojai — whose journey runs from the intensity of the Indian film and television industry to the intimate, exacting work of training young actors in a small but culturally ambitious town.Badami's career began in India, where she worked in film and television before turning her focus toward directing and teaching. That evolution — shaped by mentors, artistic rigor, and a search for deeper meaning — eventually led her to Ojai, where she has built something rare: not just a youth program, but a working theatre company. At the Living Theatre Academy, young performers are held to professional standards, immersed in ensemble practice, and challenged to engage with material that demands emotional truth and intellectual depth. In this conversation, Badami reflects on the teachers who shaped her, the influence of Jiddu Krishnamurti on her approach to art and education, and the role theatre can play in developing life skills — discipline, empathy, collaboration — that extend far beyond the stage. She also shares candid thoughts on her experiences within the Indian film world, including projects like Rise, Roar & Revolt and Monsoon Wedding, and what it means to navigate identity across the global Indian diaspora. The discussion comes at a moment when her company is mounting an ambitious Spring season featuring The Wolves and The Outsiders — two works that, on the surface, could not be more different, yet converge on a central question: how young people find their place in the world. The Academy's production of The Wolves, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, demands precision, vulnerability, and true ensemble work, while The Outsiders channels the enduring story of Ponyboy and the Greasers with a cast close in age to the characters themselves, bringing unusual immediacy and authenticity to a generational classic. Performances run May 22–24 (The Wolves) and May 29–31 (The Outsiders) at Matilija Auditorium — an opportunity for Ojai audiences to witness the kind of serious, youth-driven theatre typically associated with far larger cities. If you think of student theatre as light fare, think again. What Badami is building is disciplined, emotionally resonant, and unmistakably alive —and for young people in Ojai, it's an extraordinary gift.Go see it.We talked about her membership in the Rotary Club of Ojai, navigating a move from the East Coast to Ojai with teen-aged children, her recent visit to London where her daughter performed with the Royal Academy of the Dramatic Arts. We did not talk about mahseer fishing, Bengal tigers or the films of Alejandro Jodorowsky. For more information, check out https://www.livingtheateracademy.com/

This week in the podcast, we interviewed the exceptional career coach and advisor Richa Bansal from Pink Careers. "I am lucky to have this job." That sentence just cost you $50,000. Maybe more. Here's what most coaches miss: the same mindset that keeps corporate professionals undervaluing themselves is the exact same mindset that keeps you undercharging for your programs. You think "I'm lucky they want to work with me" instead of "they're lucky to work with me." You put potential clients on a pedestal. You make yourself feel small. You negotiate from scarcity instead of abundance. And then you wonder why you can't charge what you're worth. In this episode of The Expert Edge, I sit down with Richa Bansal, founder of Pink Careers, who's built a seven-figure business teaching women how to step into leadership roles and get paid what they're worth. Richa breaks down the exact mindset shifts that unlock everything from career moves to sales conversations to scaling your business. We talk about why mindset is a strategy (not just a nice-to-have), how to fight for the prospect instead of just closing the sale, and what it takes to scale past seven figures when you've been a successful solopreneur with great margins. What you'll learn: → The biggest mindset shift: From "I'm lucky to have this" to "They're lucky to have me" (and how this shift changes everything from negotiations to pricing) → Why mindset is a strategy - You can't tactics your way out of believing you're not good enough → Richa's sales philosophy: Fight for the prospect's future, not just for the sale (when you care more about transformation than commission, sales becomes service) → How to scale past seven figures without losing profit margins or service quality (and why growth means letting go of control) → Why women (and many coaches) put clients on a pedestal and make themselves feel small (and how that creates imposter syndrome) → The continuum from passive to arrogant (and why women almost never overshoot into arrogance when making this shift) Links Richa refers to on the episode: Her Career Masterclass link: https://rise.pinkcareers.com/rp-masterclass-live Connect directly with Richa on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/richabansal10/ Real insights from the episode: How Richa went from senior leadership at Amazon to building Pink Careers and crossing seven figures Why she was almost always the only woman in leadership roles (oil and gas, Amazon's operational leadership) The mission to help one million women step into leadership roles and close the gender gap in the C-suite Why "always be the buyer" is one of the most powerful sales mindsets you can adopt How Richa runs the largest women's leadership program across the federal government of Canada The tactical, no-fluff approach that gets clients 30%, 40%, sometimes 50% pay increases Why your internal purpose shifts once you cross a certain revenue threshold Join our next Speak to Convert Masterclass. Richa Kaul breaks down the AI risk landscape for enterprises, and argues that the key to managing all of them is resisting the urge to sensationalize. Kaul offers a candid assessment of where enterprise AI governance committees are falling short, noting that many  lack the technical fluency to ask vendors the right questions, such as where customer data goes, whether it trains other clients' models, and what specific steps reduce hallucination. She suggests that market-driven security standards like SOC-2 and ISO 27001 often matter more in practice than government regulation, creating a "beautiful ecosystem" where risk management runs ahead of the law. Looking forward, she addresses the growing challenge of agentic AI systems that make decisions autonomously, offering a deceptively simple prescription: Map every action an agent can take, know where your highest risk sits, identify the critical decision points, and demand human sign-off at each one/ Richa Kaul is the founder and CEO of Complyance, an AI-native enterprise governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) platform. This year has commenced with policy shifts in the long languishing power distribution sector and trade deals with focus on sustainable development. To guide through this maze of varied developments which would impact India's energy transition and security, we spoke with Richa Mishra, seasoned energy journalist and author. This week on That Tech Pod, Laura and Kevin chat with Richa Kaul, founder and CEO of Complyance, for a blunt conversation about what governance, risk, and compliance actually are, and why so many companies pretend it's something else.Richa walks us through how she really landed in GRC, including the moment she realized compliance isn't about forms or frameworks. It's about power, incentives, and who takes the fall when systems fail. Drawing on her time in legal tech, enterprise systems, and AI, she makes the case that much of today's compliance model is quietly broken, and that organizations know it, even if they won't admit it.  We dig into why GRC has such a credibility problem, the comforting lies companies tell themselves about being “compliant,” and whether compliance should be about control or trust, and why so many leaders default to the wrong one. Richa also weighs in on whether “move fast and break things” is actually gone, or just better disguised in the age of AI. We close with a forward-looking conversation on AI risk, including the uncomfortable questions boards avoid, why training alone won't fix reckless AI use, and what organizations should be paying attention to next if they want governance that actually works.Richa Kaul is the founder and CEO of Complyance, an AI-powered GRC platform helping enterprises navigate governance, risk, and compliance with ease. She previously held leadership roles in legal and compliance technology, including helping scale global solutions at ContractPodAI. Richa focuses on how companies can move beyond checkbox compliance to build systems that actually support better decisions, accountability, and trust as AI becomes more embedded in the enterprise. She is passionate about the future of compliance, the role of AI in governance, and the challenges of scaling a company in enterprise tech. Her innovative approach combines deep technical expertise with strategic business acumen, making her a sought-after thought leader in the GRC space.
