The parents, sister, and niece of Vadym Holiuk were set to land in Minnesota Monday afternoon, just days after leaving their home in Ukraine. Their arrival comes almost exactly a year after Vadym's. He resettled in Brooklyn Park along with his wife and daughter. The family is among about 1,000 Ukrainian refugees who have come to the state since Russia invaded in Feb. 2022. Some Minnesotans have been working to try and ease their transition through a sponsorship program run by the organization Alight. Vadym Holiuk and sponsor Sharon Norlander talked with MPR News Host Cathy Wurzer a few hours before the family's reunion.Use the audio player above to listen to the full conversation.Subscribe to the Minnesota Now podcast on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. Locked On Golden Knights - Daily Podcast On the Vegas Golden Knights
The Golden Knights posted a workmanlike 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild, one of the hottest teams in the NHL, on Saturday night. VGK managed the puck well and played solid defense in the contest. And Laurent Brossoit stopped 29 of 30 shots he faced and could be moving up the goaltender pecking order to the top spot. Bruce Cassidy called the game perhaps the best complete game this season. He was really pleased at the way VGK won puck battles and limited their turnovers. Chandler Stephenson even won a faceoff to assist on Zach Whitecloud's goal. We could see the Wild muck up the game Monday. We could see Jonathan Quick face Philip Gustavsson in the battle of goalies. Wild Coach Dean Evenson said his team lacked energy in Las Vegas. But he feels they will play better in Minneapolis on Monday. FANDUEL DISCLAIMER: 21+ in select states. First online real money wager only. Locked On Golden Knights - Daily Podcast On the Vegas Golden Knights
The Golden Knights fell to the Sharks 4-3 in overtime Thursday night after they clinched a playoff berth when the Nashville Predators lost to the Penguins. The Golden Knights 7-game road winning streak was halted in the process. And the Pacific Division race tightened as both Edmonton and the L.A. Kings are within three points down the stretch. The blame for the loss, we feel, lies squarely on Bruce Cassidy's shoulders. The VGK might have overlooked San Jose this week by canceling practice, shuffling lines and the head coach didn't even mention they were playing San Jose down the stretch. Cassidy might have felt the Sharks were in full tank mode prior to the game. VGK committed two costly turnovers in the defeat. But Alex Petrangelo's gift to Logan Couture in O.T. cost the VGK the game. The Golden Knights, for a second game, were also ineffective in the faceoff circle and Mario Ferraro scored a goal in the first period off a Nic Roy faceoff loss. VGK now faces red-hot Minnesota, a team that has points in 20 of its last 21 games. VGK hosts the Wild on Saturday and will travel to Minnesota Monday. We will see the return of Marc-Andre Fleury and Ryan Reaves to the Fortress on Saturday night. We also have our WTF - What The Friday - comments from VGK fans.FANDUEL DISCLAIMER: 21+ in select states. First online real money wager only.
