In this episode, Jaffe & Razor discuss the end of the 2021-22 season as the Colorado Avalanche have won the Stanley Cup. They get into the Bruins continued search for Bruce Cassidy's replacement as head coach, the return of Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak, and even a little analysis of Razor's mulch situation. We dug up a 2003 story from the Washington Post on the firing of Bruce Cassidy. He was a young and inexperienced coach, and George McPhee gambled on Cassidy, who was fired after just 15 months with the Washington Capitals. Cassidy has obviously grown a lot since then, having made the playoffs in Boston in each of his six years there and winning the Jack Adams award in the 2019-20 season as the best head coach in the league. We also talked about the VGK odds to win the Stanley Cup in 2023. And, three players were drafted ahead of Colorado's Cale Makar three years ago - one was Nolan Patrick, who probably won't play again for the Golden Knights. Learn more about your ad choices. The Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup Sunday 2-1 over twice defending champion Tampa Bay. The Avs closed out the series 4 games to 2, and wound up with a 16-4 record on the historic run. Colorado was knocked out of the playoffs last season in the Western Conference semifinals after winning its first two games. The Avalanche fell short after winning the Presidents Cup. We also talk about Nic Hague in the rumor mill. Did VGK hire a new goaltending coach? And, who might not fit into Bruce Cassidy's system. Learn more about your ad choices. New VGK Head Coach Bruce Cassidy Told TSN 1200 that he had five interviews while looking for a new job. Cassidy also talked about Mark Stone's leadership, Jack Eichel wanting to make the playoffs and Robin Lehner's recovery. Cassidy hinted at a possible goalie coach change. We also talk about KHL star Andrei Kuzmenko signing with Vancouver - VGK was in the hunt for the coveted free agent. And, we recap Game 3 of the SCF Learn more about your ad choices. It's Part 2 of a look back at Don Sweeney's draft history, focusing on 2016 and the Boston Bruins adding a franchise defenseman in Charlie McAvoy. The Bruins also added a promising winger in Oskar Steen late in the draft, but definitely flubbed their second 1st-round pick by taking Trent Frederic over Jordan Kyrou or Alex DeBrincat. They, and every other team, also left a Norris Trophy winner on the table. Plus, what's going on with Sweeney's expected contract extension? Are the Bruins waiting until the Bruce Cassidy anger dies down? And the Bruins should definitely be interested in Ethan Bear if the Carolina Hurricanes make him available. PLENTY is covered in Headlines this week. The guys chime in on a fast Avs start in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, the expected Lightning bounce-back, and how size has prevailed on defence. Off-season chatter includes cap maneuvers in the Weber/Dadonov deal, if Montreal goes Slafkovský or Wright, and why first overall might not be the only noise the Canadiens make on Draft Day. Plus, John Tortorella's coaching style, and his tough task of turning around the Philadelphia Flyers.
