Students who are chronically absent, which is missing 10% or more of school, see lower test scores and are less likely to attend college, according to new data from the Nebraska Statewide Workforce and Educational Reporting System. State education department officials hope to reduce the chronic absenteeism rate by half in the next five years.

The government is celebrating the structured literacy results for new entrants which showed 58% of students were meeting or exceeding phonics expectations by term three, up from 36% in term one. Education Minister Erica Stanford spoke to Corin Dann.

There's confidence New Zealand schools are turning a corner on literacy skills. The Education Minister says data shows 58 percent of new entrant students are at-or-above phonics expectations after 20 weeks at school - up from 36 percent in Term One. The number exceeding expectations is more than double Term One's figure. Erica Stanford says she wants 90 percent of kids to achieve curriculum level. "As teachers become more confident and capable with explicit teaching and the new curriculum and structured literacy, the results will get better and better and better...we see that overseas." In July 2023, the ACOG released a Practice Advisory stating, “Based on data on the benefit of adjunct HPV vaccination, ACOG recommends adherence to the current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations for vaccinations of individuals aged 9–26 years, and to consider adjuvant HPV vaccination for immunocompetent previously unvaccinated people aged 27–45 years who are undergoing treatment for CIN 2+”. The possible beneficial effect of peri-treatment HPV vaccination goes back to the early 2010s. But science is always changing, and MEDICINE MOVES FAST. In September 2025, the Lancet's Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women's Health journal published the VACCIN trial to test that guidance. These authors found that, “Although previous studies, including meta-analyses and observational studies, have shown that adjuvant HPV vaccination reduces the recurrence of cervical dysplasia after surgical treatment, our trial suggests that adjuvant HPV vaccination is not effective in reducing the recurrence of CIN 2–3 lesions, contradicting the conclusions of previous works”. What does it really mean to future-proof financial data? That's the question at the heart of my conversation with George Rosenberger, General Manager of NYFIX at Broadridge. George has spent his career moving through every corner of the capital markets, from trading desks to broker-dealers, and now into the software side where he oversees order routing, post-trade matching, and the adoption of new AI tools. His perspective is uniquely positioned between the history of financial markets and their rapidly accelerating future.
