What does the data say about Christianity in the American church today? In this episode, Alex and Scott explore the emerging cultural and spiritual shifts among younger generations, particularly Gen Z, with guest Dr. Adam Rasmussen, Cultural Research Fellow and Dean of Arts & Humanities at Arizona Christian University. Drawing from recent data and studies by the Cultural Research Center and the American Bible Society, Rasmussen outlines a growing openness to spirituality and Christianity—especially among young men—despite the rise of secularism. Together they also examine the mental health crisis and its correlation with worldview, revealing that a stronger biblical worldview significantly lowers struggles with anxiety, depression, and more. Rasmussen warns of the post-COVID decline in biblical worldview and church attendance but sees signs of revival—particularly in increased male engagement and hunger for authentic, biblical discipleship. This higher prevalence is observed across various racial and ethnic groups within the adult female population. At the end of April 2025, new population-level data was published (UK) describing an alarming association between progastrin only pills and asthma exacerbations. Is this a new finding? Recently, it seems that there has been a barrage of negative press towards progestin only contraceptives: depo provera and brain tumors, progestin releasing IUS and breast cancer, and the progestin IUS and rosacea. It's the most talked-about academic paper this year in the world of energy. Rethinking Load Growth, co-authored by Tyler Norris of Duke University has caused a stir in energy circles because it offers a new perspective on the hottest issue of the moment: how to provide power for new data centers and other large consumers. With new sources of electricity demand growing rapidly – from data centers for AI to battery factories to EV charging networks – grid planners are scrambling to understand how to integrate large new loads without breaking the system or budgets. That is the question for Rethinking Load Growth, and it delivers a startling insight: The US grid could absorb 98 gigawatts of new load, IF those loads can be sufficiently flexible. They would need to be curtailed for just 0.5% of the year, which is about 42 hours in total – not all in one go, but in blocks averaging a couple of hours at a time. That kind of load flexibility could unlock faster, cheaper grid expansion, with big implications for investors, policymakers, and companies racing to develop new data centers and other facilities.Tyler joins the show with host Ed Crooks and regular guest Amy Myers-Jaffe to discuss his research. They debate the questions:Why is his paper is causing so much interest in energy circles, and beyondWhat real-world adoption of flexible load looks like for data centersWhether virtual power plants (VPPs) are the missing pieceAnd how governments and regulators could make or break this opportunitySee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

(AURN News) — New data from the University of Michigan shows continued trouble for the U.S. economy, as consumer sentiment dropped 11% since March and more than 40% since December. No generation or demographic was unscathed by the decline, which reflects deepening concern over business conditions, inflation, and the labor market. “Consumers report multiple warning signs that raise the risk of recession: expectations for business conditions, personal finances, incomes, inflation, and labor markets all continued to deteriorate this month. The share of consumers expecting unemployment to rise in the year ahead increased for the fifth consecutive month and is now more than double the November 2024 reading and the highest since 2009,” the University said. Inflation expectations for the year ahead rose from 5% in March to 6.7% this month, as Americans continue to worry about the high cost of living they've been burdened with. The latest report comes as President Donald Trump's second term continues on an economic roller coaster, marked by tariff wars and elevated inflation. Learn more about your ad choices. Metabolic syndrome (MetSyn) is a cluster of conditions, such as increase in waist circumference, dyslipidemia (elevated triglyceride levels and reduced HDL), increased blood pressure, and increased fasting blood sugar levels that is related to insulin resistance, diabetes, and elevated risk of cardiovascular disease. Women with PCOS have a significantly higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) compared to the general population, with studies indicating a prevalence of around 43-47% in PCOS women. PLUS, there is a high prevalence of moderate to severe depressive symptoms and depression in adults and adolescents with PCOS; therefore, screening for depression in all adults and adolescents with PCOS is encouraged. In this episode, we will review a new publication for the J Clinical Endo & Metabolism discussing this combination (PCOS and depression/anxiety) and the MetSyn, and we will review the EXPANDED indications for metformin for metabolic syndrome prevention/treatment according to the 2023 PCOS updated guidance.

If you care about decarbonizing the power grid anytime soon, you have to care about data centers. The AI boom and the ongoing growth of the internet have driven a big new cycle of data center construction in the United States, with tech companies trying to buy amounts of electricity comparable to those used by large cities. Peter Freed has seen this up close. As Meta's former director of energy strategy, he worked on clean energy procurement and data center development from 2014 to 2024. He is now a founding partner at the Near Horizon Group, where he advises investors and companies on emerging topics in data centers and advanced clean energy. On this week's episode of Shift Key, Rob and Jesse talk with Peter about whether AI and new data centers are going to blow up the grid and break decarbonization. What are the real-world constraints on developing a data center in 2025? Are tech companies beginning to run out of natural gas to burn? What do their investments in clean energy mean? And could the rise of AI prompt an accidental return to coal? Shift Key is hosted by Jesse Jenkins, a professor of energy systems engineering at Princeton University, and Robinson Meyer, Heatmap's executive editor.Mentioned: A Skeptic's Guide to AI and Energy GrowthPeter Freed and Allison Clement on how to reduce data center speculationExxon's announced plans to use CCS for data centersThe Natural Gas Turbine CrisisJesse's upshift; Rob's downshift.--Music for Shift Key is by Adam Kromelow.
