What is the New Room Conference and why should you care about it? In this episode, the MNT Crew reports on their time in Houston, TX at the 10th annual New Room Conference, which draws its roots from the early days of Methodism. Instead of being a conventional conference centered around silver-tongued speakers and current best practices, New Room seeks to reclaim the Methodist way of Holy Conferencing by calling those in attendance to repentance and holiness of heart and life. For more information about the New Room Conference, visit: https://newroomconference.comTo purchase this year's talks, visit: https://my.seedbed.com/product/2023-new-room-conference-talks/To learn more about JT Tremaine's work, visit: https://civilrighteousness.org

Pursuing social justice is an important part of the Christian walk. But what happens when that becomes your idol, and your thirst for justice far outweighs your need for Jesus? Furthermore, what happens when your worldview is confronted by the truth of the risen Christ? Pastor Eric Huffman (you can read his story here) talks with Kyle about his journey from pastoring while denying the central truths of Christianity in order to pursue justice to becoming a born-again follower of Jesus and a humble servant of the gospel. This is a good one fam, check it out! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pastor Eric Huffman is the lead pastor of The Story Church Houston, host of the Maybe God Podcast, and author of “40 Days of Doubt: Devotions for the Skeptic”. He has also recently released a book called Scripture and The Skeptic, aimed at helping the cynical and the skeptical navigate the Bible as Christian scripture. Eric's passion is to lead new generations to ask their questions, to doubt their doubts, and to know the truth of God through Jesus Christ. He has been a guest contributor for the KSBJ and NGen Evening Shows, a guest speaker for Exploration 2013 in Denver, the 2015 Louisiana Annual Conference, the 2016 North Carolina Preaching Festival, the 2016 New Room Conference in Houston, and the 2016 Disciple NOW at The Woodlands United Methodist Church.
Lo Alaman's spoken word poetry has blessed the Church and many of our listeners will have heard him speak at the New Room Conference. Lo's new book of poems, We Sang a Dirge: Poems, Laments, and Other Things That Matter to God is a thoughtful and powerful look at the state of the culture and the Church. As a black man in the Church and a black man in America, Lo offers some candid insights into how the biblical practice of lament can speak into the issues of racism, injustice, and division that affect American society today and offers some thoughts on how the present and future Church can better reflect the Kingdom vision of unity.
