This Sermon is about whether we are the one who has been wronged or the one who has sinned against another, failing to confess and address these sins can damage our relationships. When we do not seek reconciliation through God's gift of forgiveness, relational walls begin to form between us and the other person.

Clare football manager Paul Madden says his side's failure to secure breaking balls in the middle of the field was the defining factor in their Tailteann Cup defeat against Longford. A 2-17 to 1-18 defeat to the Leinster side in Round 2B of the second tier competition sees Clare become one of the first teams to exit the football championship this season. Oran Kenny and Dylan Farrell raised green flags for the visitors in the last 10 minutes, with Clare unable to claw back the deficit despite two pointers from Emmet McMahon and Aaron Griffin. Madden says they didn't do enough right on the day.

Psalms 51 Elder Roger feels unable to preach God’s word without God and the Holy Spirit. Asks for prayers. The message comes from a Monday night men’s meeting and has been contemplated for a couple of weeks. Brother Tommy was expected to preach on it Sunday but didn’t directly address it. Elder Roger is focusing on Psalms 51, emphasizing that the interpretation is personal and divinely inspired. Have Mercy Upon Me, O God Elder Roger believes asking for God’s mercy should be a daily practice. Acknowledges personal shortcomings and the need for divine mercy, regardless of perceived goodness. This sentiment should be shared by all born-again Christians. Asks God to reveal shortcomings and iniquities. Expresses gratitude to the Lord. Churches today don’t want people to think badly about them. Wash Me Thoroughly From My Iniquities Recalls own baptism shortly after being saved. Baptism is not essential for salvation but is a desired act of cleansing before God. Believes in full immersion baptism, symbolizing complete cleansing under the blood of Jesus Christ. Acknowledges personal sinfulness post-baptism. Only Jesus was without sin. Emphasizes the availability of forgiveness through God. Cleansing is internal, transforming the soul. God replaces the “old stony heart” with a pure one. Internal change is more important than outward appearances or religious displays. Example: One can dress well and attend church regularly, but the internal state matters most. Asks for daily cleansing to avoid carrying “filthy stuff” in the heart. One should strive to be as clean as on the day of salvation. Allowing God to cleanse enables one to walk with Christ and have Jesus in their heart. Restore Unto Me My Joy Christians should exhibit joy due to their salvation and eternal life with God. Contrasts this with the sad demeanor sometimes seen in those claiming to be born again. Being washed in the blood of Jesus Christ is something to be proud of. Encourages those who have lost their joy to ask God to restore it. God is just and righteous to do so. Elder Roger values the joy of salvation more than any amount of money. Finds joy and comfort in knowing that heaven awaits. Something changed internally upon salvation. The comforter didn’t leave us. If lost, one should be worried. Jesus loves everyone and they need to come to him to ask him to save them. Renew a Right Spirit Within Me Expresses concern that some churchgoers, even in sister churches, may not truly understand the Spirit of God. Fear that the true Spirit of God would scare them. God speaks to everyone, not just preachers. Encourages taking time for one-on-one connection with God. Examples: Go to the basement, swing outside, walk. Listen to what God and the Holy Spirit have to say. Laments the decline in people’s willingness to listen to God. Recalls stories of past revivals with large crowds inside and outside the church. Salvation of people is not old-fashioned. Attributes such revivals to the Holy Spirit working through the prayers of church members. Questions when the last time a lost person was seen in the church. If lost people come through the doors of the church, God will do the rest. Emphasizes the importance of attracting lost people to the church. God can save people anywhere, but the church is a good place to experience love. The church should show love to lost individuals who may walk through the doors. Otherwise, they might turn around and walk back out. Invitation Believes an invitation should be given every time the church doors are open. Offers to pray with anyone in need, while acknowledging personal limitations in helping others. Refers to Psalm 23.

2 Chronicles 35:20-27 New International Version The Death of Josiah 20 After all this, when Josiah had set the temple in order, Necho king of Egypt went up to fight at Carchemish on the Euphrates, and Josiah marched out to meet him in battle. 21 But Necho sent messengers to him, saying, “What quarrel is there, king of Judah, between you and me? It is not you I am attacking at this time, but the house with which I am at war. God has told me to hurry; so stop opposing God, who is with me, or he will destroy you.” 22 Josiah, however, would not turn away from him, but disguised himself to engage him in battle. He would not listen to what Necho had said at God’s command but went to fight him on the plain of Megiddo. 23 Archers shot King Josiah, and he told his officers, “Take me away; I am badly wounded.” 24 So they took him out of his chariot, put him in his other chariot and brought him to Jerusalem, where he died. He was buried in the tombs of his ancestors, and all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for him. 25 Jeremiah composed laments for Josiah, and to this day all the male and female singers commemorate Josiah in the laments. These became a tradition in Israel and are written in the Laments. 26 The other events of Josiah’s reign and his acts of devotion in accordance with what is written in the Law of the Lord— 27 all the events, from beginning to end, are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Lamentations March 01, 2026 Teacher: Pastor Dave Brown A healthy spirituality is always an honest spirituality. Healing begins when hidden pain is brought from darkness into the light of God's presence and the care of a trustworthy community. My eyes fail from weeping, I am in torment within; my heart is poured out on the ground because my people are destroyed, because children and infants faint in the streets of the city. — Lamentations 2:11 What can I say for you? With what can I compare you, Daughter Jerusalem? To what can I liken you, that I may comfort you, Virgin Daughter Zion? Your wound is as deep as the sea. Who can heal you? — Lamentations 2:13 A healthy spirituality is always an honest spirituality. The hearts of the people cry out to the Lord. You walls of Daughter Zion, let your tears flow like a river day and night; give yourself no relief, your eyes no rest. Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint from hunger at every street corner “Look, Lord, and consider: Whom have you ever treated like this? Should women eat their offspring, the children they have cared for? Should priest and prophet be killed in the sanctuary of the Lord? “Young and old lie together in the dust of the streets; my young men and young women have fallen by the sword. You have slain them in the day of your anger; you have slaughtered them without pity. — Lamentations 2:18-21 Pray as you can. Not as you can't. — John Chapman A healthy spirituality is always an honest spirituality. Laments are prayers that erupt from wounds, burst out of unbearable pain, and bring it to language. Laments complain, shout, and protest. They take anger and despair before God and the community. They grieve. They argue. They find fault…Although laments appear disruptive to God's world, they are acts of fidelity. In vulnerability and honesty, the cling obstinately to God and demand for God to see, hear, and act. — Kathleen O' Conner God's silence in Lamentations leaves wounds festering, open to the air and possibly to healing. The benefit of exposed wounds is that they become visible and unavoidable. Left exposed, they require us to see, acknowledge, and attend to them, and then perhaps there can be energy to attend to the wounds of the world. — Kathleen O' Conner A healthy spirituality is always an honest spirituality. For you were once in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. — Ephesians 5:8-12 It is easier to let God heal my sinfulness than it is to let him heal my woundedness. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5 A healthy spirituality is always an honest spirituality. Healing begins when hidden pain is brought from darkness into the light of God's presence and the care of a trustworthy community.

Regular readers of MinistryWatch know that I'm a bit of a Ryan Burge fan-boy. His weekly Substack column, “Graphs About Religion,” is required reading for me. I cite it often in my weekly “Signs and Wonders” column. That's why I'm kind of geeking out today, now that we finally have him on the podcast. The occasion for this get-together is his new book. It's called The Vanishing Church: How The Hollowing Out of Moderate Congregations is Hurting Democracy, Faith, and Us. I've got to admit that when I saw the title of this book, I thought to myself, “I'm not sure the hollowing out of moderate congregations is such a bad thing.” Jesus himself didn't have much use for lukewarm Christians. But I have to admit that, after reading Ryan's book, I have – well – moderated my position on moderate congregations. At least…moderately. As you'll hear, I push back on Ryan's thesis a bit, and as I think you will also hear, this was a lively and respectful conversation. Ryan Burge is a professor of practice at The Danforth Center on Religion and Politics at Washington University. He previously taught at Eastern Illinois University. He is the author of several previous books, including his 2023 book The Great Dechurching, which may have been my onramp to Ryan's work. In addition to writing his weekly Substack column, which I just mentioned, he is also a regular contributor to The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Politico, and other publications. He has appeared on CBS News' flagship program 60 Minutes, and has been cited by countless other news programs, podcasts, and news articles. We had this conversation via zoom. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. If you are listening to this program during the week we dropped it, MERRY CHRISTMAS. Thanks for making MinistryWatch a part of your holiday festivities. Until next time, may God bless you.

BT dives into the oddly therapeutic experience of shoveling snow before launching into a nostalgic, fiery rant about the decline of true winter mischief. He reminisces about two dangerous but fun activities from his youth—"skitching" on the back of UPS trucks and the essential rite of passage: pelting cars and buses with snowballs. His disappointment peaks when he encounters a group of kids at a stop sign, actively engaged in a snowball fight, who completely FAIL to throw a single snowball at his car. BT views this as a symbol of how much things have changed, arguing that the fear of unpredictable drivers and consequences has killed the spontaneous, risky fun of his generation. He concludes that this chapter of childhood recklessness is officially shut.

After a day on the ground at Oakmont, Andy and Brendan went live to share their thoughts from the first round of the 2025 U.S. Open. J.J. Spaun is in the lead at -4, so the two first debate who the "real" leader of the tournament is. Andy settles on a resurgent Brooks Koepka, sitting at -2, and is eyeing Jon Rahm at -1 a bit further down the board. Brendan shares some takeaways from following Spaun's second nine before transitioning to some course talk. The two discuss Thursday's pin placements, the setup "begging" for a fluke winner, and have some rough thoughts percolating already. Scottie, Rory, and Bryson are covered, with each finishing the first round over par. Games Within the Game are updated after some early commanding leads as well. Big Shot Bob MacIntyre had some critical quotes following his even-par round and Brendan loved what he was hearing. To close things out, the two look ahead to Friday and where the cutline might end up.
