You can check out some of Nicole's marathon training tips,  some ideas for fuelling your training, and here is one of her recipes for a morning protein smoothie. Nicole wanted to run a marathon this year, but 2020 had different ideas! So we talked a bit about the changing landscape of her training this year and how having a personalised plan has helped her. How planning can give you more time for training, and more time for fun stuff One of the big questions our awesome crew in Run Club have, is how do you juggle it all - family, work, running? And Nicole talks us through some of her main processes for  putting her planning to work for her so she has more time for marathon training and more quality family time. Some marathon training talk! We talk pacing vs effort, how to get your head around hard workouts and not changing what our coach has written.  Introducing Adapt Nicole has started a new project: Adapt Drinks. Nicole has developed a drink with a focus on relaxation, stress relief and recovery - without any sugar or alcohol additives. The drinks include adaptogenic herbs, which you could take as a supplement - but are now in a drink form to retain that ritual of having a drink. So it's a great way to get your relaxation or stress relief without all the negatives associated with alcohol. The podcast is designed to help you start a blog, to build that blog, and to monetize it.  Today, I've got a special treat for you. It is a keynote that I gave a couple of years ago at our ProBlogger event in Melbourne. It's titled Evolve Don't Revolve. It's all about how as bloggers and online entrepreneurs, it's really easy to revolve in our blogging, to just go around in circles. I don't know if you can relate to that of feeling going around in circles. I certainly can. There's been so many times over my 15 years of blogging where I've realized I'm just treading water, I stopped growing, I stopped evolving. The call of this keynote is to look at seven different areas where you can evolve your blog and online business. Also, a taster of what we do at our Evolve event, at our ProBlogger event, which we've been running it for quite a few years. We've got our new event coming up in August of this year on the 10th and 11th of August, again, in Melbourne. I want to tell you a little bit about that event before we get into the keynote. There's two options for those of you who want to come to our event in Melbourne. On the 10th of August, we've got a training day. This is a one day event for beginners, intermediate level bloggers. It's also probably relevant for other content creators as well.  If you head to problogger.com/events you can actually see a rundown of what we're doing at that particular event. Largely though, it's me. You'll get a full day of me teaching on the four key areas of building a successful blog. I'm going to talk for about an hour about content and crafting great content for your blog. I'll talk about evolving your engagement with your readers, how to build community on your blog, how to find new readers for your blog, and then, how to monetize your blog.  This is perfect if you are a beginner or intermediate level. This episode covers two more important foundation elements for a life admin system: having a password manager and collating data frequently used when filling out forms. Mia and Dinah discuss how many passwords they need to manage life admin, and how difficult it is to have a fail-proof and secure system to store them all. They also consider how many forms they need to fill out with the same data over and over again. Mia admits to having a password book which put her at risk of identity theft. They talk about the benefits of password managers, which can generate strong passwords for new accounts, store passwords securely, and autofill login forms with one master password. They operate on your computer as a browser extension and an app on your smart phone. They go through how they approached choosing and setting up a password manager. They also outline how valuable the secure document storage and form filling functions of the apps are. The benefits of a password manager include: Ability to generate and store strong passwords Eliminating the need to remember passwords Allowing you to easily access account passwords to allow you to complete your life admin wherever you are Ability to store form filling data, including credit card details, making online form filling much faster and simpler. LIFE ADMIN HIGHS OF THE WEEK Dinah talks about how easy it was to buy tennis tickets quickly and easily with convenient access to her shared calendar and passwords on her phone – allowing a purchase of the tickets to happen within 5 minutes during a train ride. Mia talks about how she cleared out the deep clutter of her recipe folder, removing all useless and distracting things so can enjoy using the useful recipes that remain. LIFE ADMIN LOW OF THE WEEK Dinah talks about how she had changed credit cards to maximise her frequent flyer points but has found that the online app is so cumbersome that it makes managing the account too difficult and not worth the extra points. Wow. I learnt so much this week in this conversation. Nicole Avery is a business woman, a mother of 5 and one heck of an organised person. True story. I just had to hack her incredible tips, tricks and overwhelm-preventative measures that her family of 7 take to run things smoothly - most of the time (no one is perfect, remember?). I have been so inspired to look ahead to when my travel is done for the year and develop some of the themes we discussed in a more impactful way in my own family life. We often confuse, as a society, feeling organised and well planned, with lacking the ability to be spontaneous and too serious, when in fact, the discipline of a well organised house hold actually creates the opportunity for MORE spontaneity and freedom - how’s that for a mindset shift? Enjoy this wonderful chat with a woman who’s truly gifted at getting it all well planned so that she and her family can kick all the goals they fancy, all the while inspiring us to do the same. The show notes and sponsor offer are over at www.lowtoxlife.com/podcast and I hope you love this week’s show as much as I did. Alexx x  Being planned so you can be present with your family - Here are the questions I asked Nicole (with a few tangents thrown in for good measure as usual)  So many of us feel overwhelmed by lack of time, chasing our tails, and many of us have 1-2-3 kids. You have 5 and literally wrote the course on how to be planned... Were you always naturally organised?   As your family grew how did you find you needed to adjust things (ie having babies / older kids in the mix - differences / meeting all needs)   A lot of people feel boxed in by planning... how can we feel spontaneous AND planned - can they coexist?   How does a disorganised, uninspired soul motivate themselves toward the idea of 'getting well planned'?   I'd imagine one of the most important aspects of motivation would be to do the work and figure out how exactly this is going to benefit you personally and as a family? ie personalisation of the 'why' = effective implementation as I talk about in my book...   Let's talk tools for meal planning  How do you help people navigate food allergies / intolerances when it comes to planning?   What happens when you've done all the planning and then the plan changes (sick kids / impromptu play dates etc)  With the families you've worked with, How have you seen people's lives change when being better planned on the food front. I'd imagine food waste saving / budget saving happen when we plan out our weeks?   Do you recommend involving the family in the plan to maximise uptake of the various meals being cooked "Tonight it's Bob's fave. Good choice bob, delicious" type positive affirmation around kid's choices...   If you had to share your favourite reasons for getting a meal plan happening to finish of everything we've talked about, what would they be?

Now I know organising your everyday life – creating routines, setting up systems, sorting your cupboards – may seem time-consuming and dull, but stay with me on this one, because seriously, it's a gift that keeps on giving. My guest today is SuperMum Nicole Avery Nicole lives in Melbourne, Australia with her husband and five gorgeous kids ranging from 7 to 17 years old. She more than most knows the importance of organising the chaos of family life, and by pulling together her business know-how, hands of experience as the mum of five, and the things she's learned from other families to bring us ‘Planning with Kids'. She's written a book by the same, is a sought-after speaker, and has created a blog, a podcast, a menu planner app, an e-course called ‘Planning and Present'. Today Nicole will teach us why careful planning acts as a safety blanket in our life as a busy mum. Mess and disorganisation brings and extra layer of stress to our lives and so planning for the known components of family life means you are better able to cope with the whole host of unknowns that family life constantly throws up at you. Nicole leads by example because although she has a tribe of kids and a busy family life, as well as running a business, she still finds time to run marathons and carves out relaxed and fun time with her children. I'm really grateful that Nicole has agreed to talk to us today because she will share with us the simple way to plan ahead, get organised and find your me time. Is Your Blog Being Hurt by Your Obsession to Create New Content? Today, I want to talk about an obsession that many bloggers have - an obsession with creating NEW content and want to suggest that we all take a little step back from spending quite so much time on that task and pay attention to something that might have a better payoff for us. I’m going to share with you a practice that I’ve build into my daily rhythm. You can listen to this episode in the player above or here on iTunes. But before I do - a couple of quick pieces of house keeping. Blogging Groove Update: Facebook group will remain live. We will do some ongoing challenges. You can take the challenges any time. I know a few people who have decided to keep doing them one a week indefinitely. If you enjoyed the challenge let us know by leaving an iTunes review. Virtual Ticket: ProBlogger Event Virtual Ticket 50 sessions - 6 keynotes, 24 breakout training sessions, 20 workshops Great speakers like Brian Fanzo (live streaming), Nathan Chan (growing your email list), Natalie Sisson (Sales Funnels), Nicole Avery (starting a blog), Emilie Wapnick (building community on your blog) and many more including me (3 sessions this year). You Also get access to our exclusive event networking and accountability group on FB Immediate access to all the recordings and slides from our 2015 event (with Jadah Sellner, Heather Armstrong, Dan Norris, Ruth Soukup and many more). 23 sessions. $USD229 ($299 AUD). All 50 sessions from 2016 and 23 from 2015 are yours to keep and refer back to time and time again. A simple daily practice that I do: Every day we publish new content on dPS - two posts a day. We work on making the content as good as it can be. Useful, practical, well laid out, as few grammatical errors as possible, well illustrated, optimised for SEO, good headline, great CTA etc. We then think about how we share it - visual content, timing on social, craft the descriptions, get it into the newsletter etc. Our authors are then thinking about engaging with readers who come - trying to get good discussions going, watching social comments etc. A lot of effort goes into these things in the lead up to and for the days after a post gets published. This is all pretty normal - most bloggers do that. But here’s the thing - your blog post is on the web for a lot longer than that first week. That first week can definitely bring you a spike in traffic - but it’s just the beginning of the content’s life. I touched on this in episode 136 where I gave tips for creating Evergreen content for your blog - but today I want to share with you a daily practice that I’ve developed over the last 5-6 years that helps me to stay in touch with my archives. Your archives quite likely contain a lot of really useful content that your readers have probably not read - particularly your newer readers. If your blog is anything like mine your archives are what gets most of the eyeballs on your blog on any given day - not the new posts. I just looked at Google Analytics for today’s traffic on dPS - we’ve published 14 posts in the last 7 days and as I look at today’s traffic - those 14 posts got around 15% of my site’s traffic. 85% of my traffic was hitting my archives. I suspect most blogs are similar - yet most of us spend most of our effort focusing upon our new posts. Most bloggers spend 99% of their time focused upon their fresh content but their readers spend most of their time focused upon the archives. I think bloggers should allocate time to focusing upon their archives too. The daily practice that I do does just that. In Today’s Episode The Daily Practice I Have Built Into My Blogging Rhythm It happens at the end of my day (late afternoon or early eveni...
