Can one podcast hour cover how eating carbs before bed likely puts you in progesterone deficiency and explain the many reasons that play into a female “turning out to be them/do what they do” in life? Yep. @leahhectman and I start with ‘what happens from the moment you have the extra X chromosome and are defined as female, and go where the exploration took us: It's quite a ride. You were never meant to be like ‘every other female'. What a relief. This week we unpack this science - there's so much more that makes you, you and I hope, even for all humans, it makes you feel empowered to know how much plays into ‘you-ness', whatever your sex or gender. This week with Dr Leah Hechtman, we learn the many things that make us our unique selves when we have the XX chromosome: Hormone receptors + qty of them for different hormones, unique to you!Types of hormones, Metabolic typeGenesLife stages and transitionsEnvironmental inputs laid over the top of these…You were never meant to be like every other female. There is a reason you're you and, as you might have guessed, it's due to many things. The rising awareness of the perimenopause/menopause experience adds the need to ensure we feel ‘true to ourselves' on that journey into a new life chapter, however we choose to navigate that.Enjoy the show. Nutrition plays a powerful role in fertility and the health of both parents and baby—but so many couples feel confused, overwhelmed, or unsure where to start. In this episode, we're joined by prenatal dietitian and nutritionist (and one of our Boob to Food clinic practitioners!) Niki Mohtat to break down what preconception care actually looks like.We chat about why preconception nutrition matters, what to eat (and what to skip), and how to support both egg and sperm quality before falling pregnant. Niki shares the top nutrients to focus on—think folate, vitamin A, choline, iodine, and more—and the surprising ones many women (and men!) are deficient in. We also talk about the difference between folate and folic acid, how to choose a prenatal supplement, and when a more personalised approach might be needed.Whether you're planning for your first baby or preparing for a new addition, this episode will leave you feeling empowered with practical, no-pressure tips to nourish your body before pregnancy. In this episode we discuss:Why both partners need to be involved in preconception careThe top nutrients to focus on before trying to conceiveCommon deficiencies in women (and men)The truth about folic acid vs folateWhat to look for in a prenatal supplementThe role of blood sugar, thyroid health and environmental toxinsEasy, realistic dietary changes you can make todayWhen to start (and why it's never too late to make a difference)Mentioned in this episode:Book a consult with NikiOur blog: Is liver safe during pregnancy?Episode with Alexx Stuart on low-tox livingToday's episode was brought to you by Mini + Me. In this engaging conversation, Bahar Etminan and Alexx Stuart explore the critical issues of toxic load, its impact on health, and the importance of education in making informed choices about food, environment and products. Alexx uncovers the hidden toxic loads in the environment, such as synthetic fragrances and mould, and discusses practical strategies for reducing exposure. The discussion highlights the need for awareness and proactive measures (rather than fearfulness) to enhance wellness and longevity. Alexx and Bahar also delve into the dangers of mould exposure, its health implications, and the importance of prevention. Alexx shares actionable tips for maintaining a mould-free environment, including managing high-risk areas and identifying harmful mould species. The conversation transitions into the significance of prioritising quality nutrition with an emphasis on fresh, whole foods and a cultural shift towards appreciating cooking and nutrition as integral to health and wellbeing. Takeaways Toxic load has a significant impact on health. Education is essential for reducing exposure to toxins. Synthetic fragrances are harmful and widely prevalent. Mould in homes can cause serious health problems, including neurodegenerative diseases. Ultra-processed foods contribute to toxic load. Reading labels is critical for making informed choices. Better alternatives exist for many conventional products. Managing mould requires preventive measures like dehumidifiers and regular maintenance. Awareness of toxic load can lead to a better quality of life. Small changes can yield significant health benefits. Water bottles, though trendy, can harbour mould if not cleaned properly. Ingested mould is less harmful than environmental mould. Activated charcoal may help mitigate the effects of ingested mould. Simplicity in cooking can foster better health outcomes. Cooking should be a joyful experience, not a chore. Quality nutrition, prioritised over processed foods, supports long-term wellbeing. The Gut-Brain Paradox is Dr Steven Gundry's latest book, now available for pre-order. People know Dr Gundry as ‘the guy who told us plants were evil foods' but have they read his books, I wonder? The key to enjoying the wide variety of foods we must enjoy to have a healthy, diverse microbiome that promotes overall health, is to have a robust and diverse terrain - it's a positive feedback loop we must create, and when we don't? A whole host of issues can occur that eventually lead to a whole host of diseases and diagnoses. We cover a LOT of ground on the show this week: Why the doctor he dedicated his book to, was beaten to death in an asylumHow our terrain matters and why it took so long to understand it better. How you can trace different addictions to different microbiome populations/overgrowthHow “plants don't kill you” much as many social media accounts might try to tell you - BUT… you have to have what it takes to enjoy and process them. The difference between protein sources The label that Dr Gundry's been given and is puzzled by “the father of carnivore diets”. The miracles Dr Gundry sees every day in medical practice, as he helps heal people's terrain - heal the terrain, heal many, many different illnesses, in so many cases. And, believe it or not, we cover even more than that list!Enjoy the show, Your Host, Alexx Stuart, Founder, LOW TOX LIFESteven Gundry, MD, is the director of the International Heart and Lung Institute in Palm Springs, California, and the founder and director of the Center for Restorative Medicine in Palm Springs and Santa Barbara. Does food ever stress you out, for one reason or another? This week's show is here to help you relax and find joy in food and my guest is the wonderful Deanna Minich PhD.I've long followed Deanna's work in nutrition and the beautiful way she links it to the power of colour, body systems, energy centres and ancient wisdom. This week we talk about: Deanna's journey towards the rainbow - how did that take shape? What led Dieanna to her 7 Systems frameworkHow does she address hecklers who challenge, say, the connection between pineapple and ambition or broccoli and love? The intersection between what is bio individually beneficial vs what is temporarily challenging when it comes to incorporating a large range of plant foods. “Anti-nutrients” and the nuanced picture when discussing lectins, phytates, salicylates and oxalates.Detoxification and what 'whole self detoxification' is as a process and why it's more effective than focusing purely on biochemistry.Deanna's favourite 3 desert-Island foods to take with her (GOOD CHOICES!) Not every mould situation is a massive problem or leads to complex chronic illness - the good news is there's a lot you can do with a couple of tools and some literacy, to prevent mould in your home from causing symptoms or damaging soft furnishings. So, in this show, I answer some of the most common questions I've received heading into the humid season here in Australia and, in the show notes you have a tonne more resources to support you if you're currently worried about mould affecting your home, possessions or health. So in this show you'll learn how to: Gauge humidity levels in your homeKnow when it's time to crank your dehumidification strategy Know what types of units, size/how many you might need if your air management systems in your home don't manage humidity effectively enough as they are. Know how to not be annoyed by noise or heat generated by dehumidifiers with a simple ‘where we are not' strategy for rotation. Know how often you need to dehumidifyKnow what testing you can consider if you think your problem in the home is beyond humidity and you need to think about mould testingAnd a bonus given I've been asked so much lately: Healing from mould on a budget - practical things you can do! Hope it's helpful and any more questions, let's keep the conversation going, AlexxFurther resources: Come say hi on Instagram @lowtoxlife Or at lowtoxlife.com The “So You Think You've Got Mould” resource blog I put together, points you to all the podcasts I've done over the years, my mould story (don't worry the exte4nt of my experience is comparatively rare - this will only happen to a small unfortunate group of people with many factors playing into it)Access the Mould Festival An interactive event series I hosted in October with some of the world's top professionals in building, insurance, legal, health, healing, mould testing, building biology, prevention and more regarding mould from every aspect. If you've ever been challenged by the tug of responsibilities, to do's, to want to do's and to be more, today's conversation is a balm for all the things, helping you explore what it might take and mean, to bring more peace, joy and satisfaction that you've done enough, into your life. In filling up your own cup - what gives you the biggest of joys? In doing ‘all the things' for work, family, partner, community - what is ‘enough'? Where is the line? Today I invite fellow a human at that busy intersection of business owners, teen kids, pets, partners and parents, Robyn Rosenfeldt, to have a conversation about how we can prioritise ourselves, so that we feel we have enough to give, what giving enough in different ways looks like and how to make peace with our enough in a world constantly telling us that we aren't, well, enough. Robyn is the founder and publisher of Pip magazine, a magazine that helps you nourish yourself and the planet. Articles are filled with ideas and inspiration about living a more earth-friendly life. Here's to a new chapter with more joy and peace that we've done enough - and accepting this looks different from person to person and in the many different phases of life that we lead.Enjoy the conversation and I do hope it sparks conversations and journaling for you, Alexx x Check out the wonderful @pipmagazineau on InstagramAnd share any ahas on @lowtoxlife on Instagram with me.Our wonderful sponsors are helping you with your low tox swaps this September: International listeners can enjoy 15% off the full range of lights, lightbulbs, red light panels, eye masks and more at @blockbluelight_official with the code LOWTOXLIFE15@ausclimate continues to offer you 10% off their powerful dehumidifiers and Winix air purifiers, with the code LOWTOXLIFE on phone orders and online at ausclimate.com.auAnd if you're after a high-quality liquid Omega 3 supplement, @therahealth and the same one we use at our house, you have 15% off Arctic Cod Liver Oil on the www.therahealth.com.au website with the code LOWTOX Hosted on Acast. Ever found out you had a cyst, polyp, fibroid or something else that shouldn't be growing? Want to know how to increase your chances of not having them pop up in your scans? In today's show, I invite Katherine Maslin, naturopath and founder of The Shift clinic, an expert in women's health, to talk us through what sets the stage for such things and how we can support these ‘findings' when they come up from a holistic perspective, even though some acute care options might also be required. It's very useful show, also going into hormone health, herbal medicine, detection and testing options and timings and more. Katherine is a mother, clinical naturopath and nutritionist, entrepreneur and leader in the natural health space. Katherine has a unique story; after overcoming a violent childhood with domestic violence and a heroin addiction by the age of 15, she discovered natural health and healing, worked on her own recovery and has been a passionate health advocate ever since. It is through making her own shifts and guiding thousands of people through their health journeys that has lead Katherine to become a force for good in the natural health industry. On this show, we're talking about stable blood sugar -possible testing you can do yourself or with a doctor, how often to check in on your blood sugar, red flags and what to do about them, best ways to achieve stabilising outcomes and good insulin sensitivity and MORE. Dr Ralph Esposito is one of my triple thread guests, ie, one of the few I've had back 3 times on the show (Check out two Men's health-focused shows #91 #102). Why? Because he has trained broadly in Chinese medicine and is a licensed acupuncturist as well as being a Naturopathic Doctor and Functional Medicine practitioner. What can someone with nearly 4 decades in Functional Medicine teach us about health? That's today's show and it's a LOT simpler than you think! My functional medicine doctor, Dr Min Yeo, retired last year and sometimes, when people leave or retire in your health team, they leave a space quite hard to fill - especially when they cared so well for you and truly saw you for your lived experience. Dr Min Yeo was one such person to me and to many. “100 years ago doctors listened to their patients a lot - it's the main thing we could do and was and still is, the art of medicine. Being a doctor is being good at pattern recognition”. Just a taste of Min's views as a doctor, from a doctor who admits to doing terribly at school, for the most part. And yet, outside of medicine, Min has been a professional violinist & Yoga Teachers Australia Certified Yoga Teacher as well as a devoted dog mum to Mimi Red Toy Poodle (Delta Therapy Dog). She is passionate about spreading awareness of the impact of environmental & lifestyle measures such as diet, sleep, exercise and stress management as a foundation for healthy living & ageing. Known to “walk her talk” & for her ability to explain complex issues in a simple, fun, relatable fashion, she has been featured in publications such as Vogue, Marie Claire, The Telegraph, 50 So What, The Guardian, 21 World Wellbeing Experts.Enjoy the show and check the show notes at lowtoxlife.com/podcast Follow Min at https://www.instagram.com/drminyeo/https://linktr.ee/drminyeo Follow me, Alexx Stuart your host @lowtoxlife - tag me and share your AHA's from the show! This week's show is just me - Alexx Stuart, founder of Low Tox Life and host of the Low Tox Life podcast that you're listening to right now and I'm talking about ADHD and me - and you! I founded Low Tox Life back in 2009 because I wanted - for myself, family and friends a lifestyle where doing a little better than yesterday across food, body, home and mind - and of course care for our planet home and over the years it's meant I've produced this show, written two books, spoke at countless events, written 10 e-courses to support people in their low tox goals and over 200 gluten-free recipes and 100 blogs on reducing toxin impact in our every day. Sheesh. “How can you have ADHD having achieved all that?” is something I often get asked and today might give you a window into it. Giving someone the gift of sticking to their passions, zone of genius and strengths allows for results to happen - it doesn't happen often in the average workplace but when you work for yourself or a great boss you can! Today's show isn't all about the good bits though as there are many challenges, too. When I shared I'd had an ADHD diagnosis (combined-type) in January, naturally people in our low tox community had questions, and so in this show this week I share: Why I sought diagnosis / why I suspected itHow I felt about that and began to process itThe excellent aspects of what it revealedThe unfortunate and sad aspects of what it revealed as it played out in my life growing up and at work and in lifeHow much sweeter life is when you feel supported for who you areHow the world would benefit from recognising differences in people's brains and the ways they produce great work, contribute and express themselves. The aspects or traits that are ‘modifyable' vs fixed and how genetics plays a role as well as trauma, environmental toxins and head injury to name a few ‘cherries on top'What I'm doing to work with the challenges of ADHDThe answers to a bunch of community questions about ADHDAnd believe it or not - even more! It's 90 mins and I did. Not. stop. Talking. I bring you: ADHD. Hehe IYKYK. Here are some of the health professionals and resources I mentioned in the show: Some work and definitions that may help by various Drs who focus on the condition: Dr Russell Barkley: https://www.russellbarkley.org/factsheets/WhatCausesADHD2017.pdfDr James Greenblatt https://www.psychiatryredefined.org/finally-focused-mineral-imbalances-adhd-part-ii/Dr Daniel Amen https://www.amenclinics.com/conditions/adhd-add/The magnesium complex I take that I mentioned https://au.iherb.com/pr/dr-sinatra-magnesium-broad-spectrum-complex-120-capsules/101150And the rest is best to chat to a practitioner about therapeutic doses and what you specifically might benefit from. Difference between actions of medications https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w44BXLATt5wFollow me at @lowtoxlife on Instagram and share any more questions about the topic or an AHA. Here's to celebrating who we are, being celebrated for it, as well as supported for what we find challenging. Now wouldn't that be a lovely world indeed? Alexx x Hosted on Acast. Alexx Stuart, founder of Low Tox Life, is back to discuss the toxins in our environment that are harming our health, and how to reduce their effects. We talk about moisture in our indoor spaces – the fallout and the fixes, the importance of gradually ditching ultra-processed food for a whole food diet for our own health and the planet's, and the best way to make these changes (hint: there's no one right way – we need to do it the way that works for us!) In addition to sharing all of Alexx's resources – available in a multitude of avenues from courses to a virtual club to a podcast to two instrumental and inspiring books to a blog and more – I also introduce an app I've been trying to help me make quick decisions among product options. Today we'll hear how one woman's journey to heal her chronic conditions led her to avoiding certain everyday products at the urging of a holistic medical professional. Alexx Stuart of Low Tox Life joins us today, to share her story – how she started to feel better after changing up some of her lifestyle practices and then how she started learning even more about the negative health effects of many things millions of us sniff, eat, and slather on ourselves, and found herself a trustworthy authority on all things toxins. Though Alexx is irate about the forces that have brought us to this harmful situation, she advocates changes done in small steps, imperfectly and with great amounts of self-compassion. She'll let us know what to look out for and what to do about it. Making doable changes and swaps to reduce our toxic burden is a big health lever – definitely don't miss this conversation! This week I invite my friend and colleague Jules Galloway, naturopath & herbalist onto the show to discuss our journeys in late diagnosis ADHD this past year. We don't have all the answers. There aren't protocols we're sharing or ways of ‘getting rid of the symptoms' but it's an exploration of why we both chose to get diagnosed, some of the things we've been exploring, thinking and feeling as we've looked back at our lives, and where we've arrived in places - also admitting there's still so much to unpack. I will also record a personal show in a couple of weeks with audience questions that have come from Instagram and that will come from the community once you've listened to this one. Jules and per husband James Galloway, also host a podcast called LD ADHD which you can go and explore. Please do get the support you need - life is much better when we know and accept ourselves and also feel empowered to change what we can for the better, through support, therapies and various other tools. Today we talk about how to cultivate cellular wellness to both heal and prevent disease. My guest, Dr Bill Rawls was travelling along routinely as a 4th generation physician in his family, until he became unwell in a way that he didn't seem to have any tools as a trained physician, to fix. When faced with Lyme disease, everything changed. In his quest to regain his health, Dr. Rawls knew he had to find his own path and new tools to restore wellness. For the past 15 years, he has extensively studied the science behind herbal therapies and new, sustainable approaches for protecting health in a proactive, preventative way, rather than waiting for something bad to happen. Today, Dr. Rawls shares the revelations that helped him and thousands of others reclaim their lives. He is the best-selling author of Unlocking Lyme, and his most recent book, The Cellular Wellness Solution: Tap Into Your Full Health Potential with the Science-Backed Power of Herbs. I hope you love the show and pick up lots of goodness from Bill's wisdom and wonderful way of explaining things and you can head to the show notes over at lowtoxlife.com/podcast for further details on his book and work as well as our sponsor offers.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
My guest this week is Dr Wendie Trubow and she is as passionate about environmental toxin impact to people's health as I am so it's an animated deep dive. Wendie is particularly focused on helping women optimize their health and lives as a functional medicine gynaecologist. Through her struggles with mold and metal toxicity, late-diagnosis Celiac disease, and other health issues, Trubow has developed a deep sense of compassion and expertise for what her patients are facing. She is the co-author of Dirty Girl: Ditch the Toxins, Look Great, and Feel Freaking Amazing and has been regularly featured in MindBodyGreen and Huffington Post. Today we are looking at teen mental health and what we can all do to support our teens in life. In his suicide note, he wrote that he would have never told us how he felt or taken our help. We were devastated and shocked and have since learned that thousands of families had the same experience. None of his friends, family, or his coaches knew that he was struggling with depression. My name is Elliot Kallen, and I am the President and Founder of A Brighter Day Charity. In honor of Jake, we began this charity six years ago by creating resources for teens and parents on stress and depression to stop teen suicide. We have now grown to become a charity that has impacted tens of thousands of families. Thousands are viewing our resources every month. We have established support programs and even offer college scholarships. Teen suicide has become a major problem in this country and is now the 2nd leading cause of death among teens. We are experts in teen depression and don't want other parents to experience this devastation. I will share ideas that will make a huge difference in the lives of teens and their parents.” Teen mental health is a real concern to many and it will take all of us to support our teens through these years. We often hear sound bites about blue light exposure as being ‘bad' or see influencers wearing orange glasses on Instagram lives, but if you really, really wanted to understand the light spectrum, what's useful, harmful and helpful then you want to meet Daniel Ebbett. We talk: The light spectrum and its impact on our health - for better or worse. What common health conditions might have a light-related root cause. What neurotransmitters are affected by light - one of then being implicated in depression! How Daniel managed to convince his old boss to replace their office lighting for employee wellbeing and what the results were. Technology and the stress placed on our system Whether the apps we can use to dim blue light actually work Why dimmable lights are bad news How to hack your blue light in the evenings to ensure you reduce it dramatically and protect your natural circadian rhythms What our biggest light source is in the evenings - and it isn't your devices! Trigger warning: In today's show our guest shares he was close to ending his life at one point. Please reach out to 13 11 14 (Australia) or 1-800-985-5990 USA Crisis Line or your local helpline if you need support, and this show also just may help but is in no way intended to treat, heal or diagnose any conditions. Hugs to you if right now is hard. Dr Dain Heer joins me today, after I recently had an Access Bars session that was so blissful and settling it led me to dig around a bit more and see who talks about it/ works with it and teaches it. It's been a while since I've done a show that explores brain re-wiring techniques and ditching heavy stories that we hold as truth and towards the end of the show we do a live exploration of me + mould and while I can't say it was a moment of change in my life, I can say I have just realised as I type this, I haven't been sick from the house inspections we did the past two weekends which both had extensive water damage, so that's interesting to me for sure - Dain made me realise that saying “the only way out is through” wasn‘t useful and that I have absolutely taken on board. We talk about: The problem with handing all our answers over to external sources. The hope that can be found in our darkest moments. How we can get on with celebrating ourselves - all of ourselves and we discuss neurodivergence and both having ADHD. How the desire to serve others can start one way and morph into more once you start practising and seeing limitations/further tools to put in one's kit. The power of asking “Who does this belong to?” about every thought and feeling you have for 3 days. How we can separate what we *think* we need to change, from what we actually want to change. Dain shares this gold “What's true for you will always make you lighter” to help us tune into . Dr Vincent Pedre is the kind of doctor you want in your corner - kind, compassionate, big picture thinking and on today's show we are deep diving into gut health - if you missed the show we did a few years back it has aged well and you might want to double down with both eps. That first one is #123. This time round we talk about his new book, The Gut Smart Protocol, but within the show so much gold as well: The huge amount of diagnoses that can be traced back to gut health and yet often aren't The way we all might need to be coming into dietary changes differently depending on where we're at (ie high histamine = don't hit those fermented foods just yet!) and how to know what mix is best for your individual situation. Dr James Khong has been a GP for 5 decades and at age 81, has wonderful wisdom to share with us in this week's show. The solution to the ‘Stress Pandemic,' as James calls these times, is a combination of Eastern and Western medicine, as well as following his Pillars of Health and reducing stress. I know you'll love his calm reasoned and overwhelm-free approach in this show. James outlines his philosophy of wellness in his new book Pandemic Stress, Reflections of Thriving in an Anxious world - a book her wrote as a way to leave a legacy from his career and life. In over fifty years as a surgical registrar, emergency medicine specialist, innovative GP and medical consultant to the Australian Ballet, film and television industry, James Khong has had a front row seat of the medical ‘industry,' and the view makes him sick. Ironically, it was a near-death-experience twenty years ago, which led to James' epiphany about changing the status quo medical model. He started to combine traditional Chinese/Western/Functional medicine, which look for causes to illness, rather than just addressing the symptoms. James also introduced meditation and breathing exercises for stress reduction. ADHD - Traditionally thought of as a little-boy mental health picture is fast becoming recognised as something that many of us have been living with and creating coping mechanisms around, without being given the recognition of being neurodivergent - I am one such person diagnosed at the ripe old age of 47 - today's show while focused primarily on children as Dr James Greenblatt's work is focused there, it is very much a show for anyone who works with, lives with, cares for, teaches or loves anyone who either has a formal diagnosis or who you simply think “what is up with them!?” often about what they forget, their busy-ness, their inability to follow up or get a ‘simple' thing done, their tapping their foot while you try to talk about something super important or perhaps their ‘too much' ness sometimes. The shame that many people with ADHD feel for not being able to be like everyone wants or needs them to is really something that need not exist if we embrace diversity and difference and help each human find the space to thrive within our beautiful human race. I hope you enjoy this show as much as I did as we explore the many support tools on offer, the lack of judgement around stimulant medication, the importance of tools tips and tricks to bring out one's best and the critical importance of removing food from the landscape that sabotages the neurodivergent brain more and faster than anything - ultra-processed food! You can head to the show notes for more details over at lowtoxlife.com/podcast Today's guest James Greenblatt, MD is a clinical pioneer, speaker, and health system leader. Dr. Greenblatt is recognized as an authority on improving mental health outcomes with nutritional medicine. Dr. Greenblatt served for 19 years as Chief Medical Officer for Walden Behavioral Health. In 2019, Dr. Greenblatt bridged medicine and technology to launch Psychiatry Redefined, an online educational program for mental health providers. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Trigger Warning - If you have an eating disorder or mental health condition that requires medical treatment for impulsivity, we discuss binge eating and habit reform in this episode. Psychologist Glenn Livingston helps people towards healthy eating habits for a living. Disillusioned by what traditional psychology had to offer overweight and/or food obsessed individuals, Dr. Livingston spent several decades researching the nature of bingeing and overeating via work with his own patients AND a self-funded research program with more than 40,000 participants. Most important, however, was his own personal journey out of obesity and food prison to a normal, healthy weight and a much more lighthearted relationship with food. His work centres around self-exploration, kindness and achieving food freedom if you live a life lured by food constantly without a framework for breaking free. In today's show we explore a world where we ‘never binge again'. Is it possible? Glenn believes wholeheartedly YES. Why is it that we knowingly do things that we know aren't good for us? How can some people make changes and stick to them and you find it super hard? Do you find yourself boredom eating? Reaching for food repeatedly before meals? Finding you eat one thing that you know is less than ideal for health only to then do it more and more ‘because what the hey, you're not perfect now so this is you'. xxx. What is an ex-criminal lawyer doing on the podcast you ask? Well, Dr Ali Walker wasn't satisfied in that line of work and went on to study executive coaching and obtain a PhD in group dynamics. She wants all of us to have a framework and literacy around our own personality, energy, communication style and how we can contribute to group dynamics with our eyes wide open as well as understanding others better - at work, in our families in leadership. You'll learn about high, mid and low-frequency types, as well as high, mid and low-intensity types and how we are all one of each in different combinations. You'll even see Ali profile me live and absolutely nail my frequency and intensity combo type. Very cool. Knowing ourselves and being able to spot other people's types helps us understand each other rather than have unnecessary misunderstandings and friction - Ali will help you take things way less personally about other people's behaviour. Her new book “Click or Clash” is worth a read if you found today's show interesting and want to go deeper. Profound work making relationships and group dynamics profoundly simpler! When we think detoxification these days, we often think quite mechanically about purging, killing things (mould/parasites), intensive programs, expensive labs et al, and while there is a time and place for all of it and it's a bio-individual need, nutritionist and herbal medicine practitioner Erin Lovell Verinder wants us to explore what a day by day, bit by bit approach looks like by exploring the magnificent plants that help us detoxify and eliminate every day as well as the ways in which we might need to up the ante from time to time. We discuss her 3 x desert Island plants as a herbalist, how important the mindset around health is, the different ways in which we can become empowered by plants-as-medicine and incorporate them safely into our day to day.
