We're digging in the archives with this one. As it's back-to-school season, it was this very time two years ago that I had the pleasure of presenting a keynote for some of the most amazing first-generation students at The University of Southern Mississippi. In this session, I reflect on a thought I shared with students with a message too good not to share with you. In a world that is constantly pushing standards of all that you are supposed to be, I think it's important for you to be reminded that life is a blank canvas, and whatever you want for your life you get to create. Pastor Vlad brings a message that is sure to get you fired up to dream again! What is vision? How do you hear God's voice? What is God's vision for YOUR life? Find out now by listening! Notes: Life of vision inspires action; becomes a practical guide for creating plans, settings goals and objectives; helps to evaluate our life; provides focus; keeps us in faith; gives us motivation; produces discipline; opens doors for miracles, and gives life a purpose.  A person without vision is a slave to their reality. Vision is a picture of the desired future. “Vision is a clear mental picture of what could be, fueled by the conviction that it should be.” Andy Stanley 1. Vision comes from God’s voice. (Habakkuk 2:1) A. When we are filled with God’s word, we will become familiar with God’s voice.  B. When we are near God, we will hear God.  * God will not yell but whisper because He expects us to be close.  C. When we lower the noise, we can hear His voice. (Revelation 2:7) 9 Ways God Speaks? * Audible voice (Genesis 3:8) * Angels (Daniel 9:22) * Visions (Acts 18:9-11) * Dreams (Acts 2:17) * Coincidences (Matthew 16:3) * Bible (2 Timothy 3:16) * People (1 Peter 4:11) * Nature (Psalms 19:1) * Still small voice (1 Kings 19:9-12). 2. Vision works when we walk towards it. (Habakkuk 2:2) A. Write the vision.  B. Read the vision.  C. Speak the vision.  * In the end, the vision will speak, but at the beginning, you must speak to the vision.  D. Run with the vision.  * The vision will come to you when you walk to it.  3. Vision will be late but on time. (Habakkuk 2:3) A. Vision collision will happen at God’s appointed time. (John 7:6) * My time might not be God’s time because He lives in a different time zone. * If your vision is early, it could be on the devil’s time. * God is always on time but is usually late.  B. When vision is late, don’t leave; wait for it.  * If the vision is not punctual, be patient.  * If the delay disappoints you, it will discourage you, and then it will derail you so the devil can defeat you.  C. God will not waste your waiting.  * In the waiting, God is working on our soul.

Pastor Ilya spoke a powerful message on the power of flight or fight, and how life is a battle field and only serious the minded have a chance of victory. Notes: Life does not give participation trophies. Anything worth having must be fought for. The only thing that is free is cheese in the mouse trap. We don't treasure things that we get free regardless of how expensive they are. My jeans story There are 2 types of struggles Struggle as a slave in bondage Struggle as soldier for promise land The difference between the two is one requires mental focus and determination and the other is mentally idol. Four Stages of Fighting 1. God is fighting for us: In this stage all you need is Desire and obedience to his plan. 2. Fighting to stay alive: In this stage God is developing trust in Him and His process In this place you are: Out of the familiar and in the unknown. Taken a step of faith but facing serious challenges Not in bondage anymore but not it the promise land yet. Left old bad friends but didn’t get good new friends yet. Started business with big great plans for the future but its not going according to the plan Like gold is refined in the fire so you are purified as you go through trials and test Trust God that started a good work in you He will bring it to completion This stage is of your life is not to kill and bury you in this desert. This stage is where the most dreams die because of negativity and complaining. 3. Fighting for the promise land In this stage God wants to reveal your identity and authority This season God works on your mindset In these season you beginning to see small victories and light at the end of the tunnel. By the time you enter this stage it’s easy to get to be tired and exhausted and settle for only a portion of your dream. Keep on pushing forward. 4. Fighting in the promise land In this stage you enter into dominion It’s a place where you go from blessed to being a blessing You go from being saved to bringing salvation to others Where you go from business owner to raising up others in business (teaching, mentoring, writing books, producing a content) Israel goes into the promise land and chooses to settle - their children fight for the rest of their existence You are not saved from fighting, you were saved for fighting. 132-Q&A: Thinking Through Buying Life Insurance on Your Kids' Lives and Clarification on 72(t) Substantially Equal Periodic Payments for Retirees

Radical Personal Finance

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 12, 2015 56:17

When I started recording the show, I planned to answer six questions. But, after finishing the first question and realizing how in-depth the show would be if I covered all six in one show, I decided to break it out into multiple shows. Today, I cover these two questions: 8:41-I'm thinking about buying life insurance on my two kids' lives. What do I need to know? 47:53-Will it work for me to use the 72(t) rules to retire at 50 and then change the payment terms at 59.5? Notes-Life insurance for kids: This is one of the most controversial areas in finanancial planning so I'll try to fairly represent the various points of view. It's tough to have a low-key discussion here because it's such an emotionally intense subject. There are three major philosophies that I've discovered: Buy lots of life insurance to protect your investment in your kids. Few people in the US will go for this one; much of the world will understand it though. The reality is more and more of us will in fact be depending on our kids as we age due to many factors including the amount of savings most retirees have and financial challenges facing social security and medicare. Buy just the minimum amount of insurance to cover burial costs. The problem here is that the rich and middle class don't really need it and the poor often don't think of it and can hardly afford it. It's also simply not very high as a priority due to the relatively low risk. Consider this model: http://radicalpersonalfinance.com/do-i-need-insurance-a-mental-model-to-analyze-methods-of-dealing-with-risk-rpf0091/ Buy some insurance for now and as a hedge for the future. Hedge for the future with an Additional Purchase Benefit. How to actually buy the policy? The advice is conflicting. People say to buy term policies for kids. But I've never been able to find a company that will sell a stand alone term product on a minor's life. (Let me know if you know of one, please.) If you're buying a big policy (#1 above) and your child is over 18, it's easy. Buy an Annual Renewable Term policy for them. If you're buying a big policy (#1 above) and your child is under 18, it's harder. If you want to get closer to term coverage, consider a stripped-out universal life policy. If you have the cash flow, go with a traditional whole life insurance contract. Make sure it's a contract that your kid will be happy owning forever. Shop carefully. If you're buying a simple burial policy (#2), do it as a term rider on another policy. You can get these at work, bundled with a banking or property and casualty insurance product, or as a rider on your own term policy. If you're hedging now and later (#3), buy a small whole life policy with an Additional Purchase Benefit. That way as health, hobbies, and occupations change, your child will be able to buy more insurance if necessary. Shop carefully. Notes-72(t) Calculations Use this calculator to get an indication of the numbers: http://www.dinkytown.net/java/Retire72T.html IRS info: http://www.irs.gov/Retirement-Plans/Retirement-Plans-FAQs-regarding-Substantially-Equal-Periodic-Payments
