Hi Everyone, Whole blood, freeze dried plasma, refrigerated or frozen platelets.... On Oct 31st - Nov 3 Graeme, Emelyn and I attended the THOR - THUNDER conference hosted here in Perth at the Rendezvous Hotel in Scarborough. Who is THOR? In their own words: The THOR (trauma haemostasis oxygenation resuscitation) organization is a resuscitation and blood network, originating in Norway a decade ago, and now boasting global reach. It has built an avid following of both civilian and military resuscitation clinicians and scientists, covering both pre-hospital and hospital management of critically unwell patients. The THOR vision is to improve outcomes from traumatic haemorrhagic shock by optimising the acute phase of resuscitation. The mission is to develop and implement the best practices for haemorrhagic shock resuscitation from pre-hospital care right through to the completion of the acute phase of hospital resuscitation. Namely, ChristIt's tempting to believe that our opinions should rule the day when in fact we are called to deprioritize our opinions for the sake of Christ, though it's very easy to conflate the two. Such a time as this calls the church to focus, namely, on Christ. Peter Sung serves as an executive coach and organizational psychologist with the Covenant Church, working with leaders, especially church planters. He lives in Seattle with his beloved Susie, their four daughters, Emelyn, Madelyn, Sophia, and Amelia, and their Irish doodle, Hobbes. He enjoys being active, good food, and keeping his mind busy.

Emelyn agreed to be my test subject to see if I could stay on track to get through 76 rapid-fire questions... But is it 76 questions if I accidentally asked a few twice differently? You be the judge. It was 76 questions about running, life, PRPs, chips, and many reasons to be proud.  Find Emelyn on Instagram @emelynjade Theme Music: Joseph McDade

Today, we're joined by Emelyn Rozas, a behavioral health specialist, artist, and psychedelic advocate based in Toronto. She is a part of the executive management team at the Toronto Psychedelic Community. Listen in as Emelyn discusses how immigrating to Canada from Peru at a young age had a direct influence on the path that she would later traverse in adulthood. She opens up about a troubled childhood which included being a victim of pedophilia, and how a lack of resources and support for the benefit of her mental health eventually led Emelyn to pursue the modality of psychedelics. Emelyn offers her advice to those who are considering psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and other forms of therapeutic psychedelics. She also speaks on the major lessons she has learned about healing past traumas. This includes the harsh reality that you may never be able to forgive those who have harmed you, but the best thing you can do is forgive yourself and be willing to let go of the shame that has held you back from growth. She goes on to talk about her work with the Toronto Psychedelic Community and give her thoughts on what she calls “the psychedelic renaissance”. Finally, Emelyn illustrates her hope for a future in which “peer support and psychedelics merge”. Here's a glimpse of what you'll learn: ● [02:36] How Emelyn got into the behavioral health field ● [07:46] How Emelyn prepared herself to try psychedelics as a modality ● [13:36] Determining when you may be ready to try psychedelics ● [16:42] Emelyn's ayahuasca experience ● [20:25] Forgiving yourself and letting go of the shame from past traumas ● [24:10] Emelyn's thoughts on the afterlife ● [26:10] Emelyn's work with the Toronto Psychedelic Community ● [28:42] What continues to hold back research on psychedelics with regards to mental health and addressing addiction ● [29:52] About microdosing ● [32:23] How psychedelics help with substance addiction ● [37:26] Psychedelics the first step to addressing your mental/emotional problems ● [44:05] About Emmelyn's artwork and future goals Key Quotes by Emelyn: ● Ayahuasca dissolves your sense of self: Everything gets fragmented. So, when you come back from the experience, it is up to you to grab those fragments and put them together for them to make sense, to get to the root of the things that are causing you issues in your daily life. ● A bad ayahuasca trip is actually a good trip, because there are so many things to learn. ● Guilt and shame are normal human emotions just like joy and anger. But, we have to be aware of the degree to which we feel them because they do affect us mentally and emotionally. ● Coming to peace with impermanence—knowing that, one day, we're not going to be here anymore—allows us to pay attention and be present more, every day of our lives. ● Psychedelics do not fix problems. It shows you what the problems are. Then, you can grab them and start to heal them one by one. It is a great tool of revelation to reveal what's hidden in the subconscious. Emelyn Fernandez is a Dominican Republic native turned New York native. She immigrated to the United States over 17 years ago speaking no English and having very little. She went to a high school with over 5,000 students and while she had a lot of “hallway friends,” she focused on her classes and did her thing. When it came time to apply to college, the harsh realities of being an undocumented immigrant hit her when she was denied opportunities of going to a university that she very muched deserved. And while that sent her to a level of depression, the resilience of overcoming a “no” would be the theme of her career and business. And after giving birth to her first child, who has special needs, she got to thinking not only of her future, but that of her child's as well. And real estate came knocking on her door. And that's where we meet Emelyn in this episode. She's an inspiration for women and mothers all over the country who are going through the same adversity. That's part of the reason she wanted to share her story. Up to date, she owns a total of seven doors and shows no sign of slowing down as she aims to focus on growing by scale and taking more more multi unit properties. In this episode of "A Conversation With," I sat down with Emelyn Stuart, owner, and creator of the "Ocktober Film Festival". Emelyn shared how she opened Stuart Cinema & Café, an independent movie theater in New York, quickly making it a beloved community cinema. She didn't just open a cinema: she really put her heart and soul into it and turned it into a place that's unique and important in its community. ====================== Emelyn Stuart BIO Emelyn Stuart embodies all things are possible when you marry purpose, passion, serious work ethic, and commitment. Production wasn't an obvious path for this businesswoman that doesn't deem herself an innate “creative,” but it has proven to be a fit for an extraordinary woman that has allowed making a difference to propel her to uncharted territory. With a degree in business and less than a decade in the industry, Emelyn Stuart has exemplified leadership and provided inspiration to filmmakers globally. Stuart's first project, “Wings and Beer” (2009), started as a script and a dream from a friend and then morphed into an award-winning short film—a testament to the difference realized with a producer that brings partnership, rigor, and powerful execution. The CEO and President of Stuart Films LLC, Emelyn Stuart, is a proven force in the independent filmmaking community. A vast range of projects that includes a successful off-Broadway play makes a difference for her collaborators but also garners her recognition internationally. Her wildly successful web series, “12 Steps to Recovery,” earned Emelyn the Best Producer award at the 2011 LAWebfest. Stuart is partly responsible for multiple award-winning feature films, including The Turnaround and Title VII. Her feature film Life Is Too Short premiered to sold-out audiences in New York for its 2015 screening debut, and in 2017 it was awarded Best FeatureFilm domestically and internationally. The ability to produce projects but still look at them objectively is a keen talent Stuart possesses and is a catalyst for her creating the coveted New York based Ocktober Film Festival founded in 2012. The Ocktober Film Festival is a “teaching festival.” Film screenings, workshops, resource fairs, pitch contests, award presentations, and special celebrity guests are a small part of the stimulating things that happen at OFF. The festival is a unique experience for filmmakers, industry guests, and moviegoers. In 2018, Stuart opened an independent movie theater in New York. Stuart Cinema & Café quickly became a beloved community movie theater. The theater offers a distribution alternative for independent filmmakers and is a resource hub for artists. In the meantime, Stuart can still be found speaking at conferences and film festivals around the country. In addition to speaking engagements and producing, Stuart continues to receive accolades and awards for her work in the entertainment business. Acknowledged by visionaries in the industry for her accomplishments, she has proven to not only be a name that rings bells but a revolutionary presence that makes a difference. I have recently found your podcast and love it, I’ve listened to it backwards to episode 91 on Apple podcast and I would love to listen to the rest but I’m not sure if they are available anywhere? My second question is if you have any tips for being in a transitional knitting place? I have only ever done flat things mostly washcloths and baby blankets, I finally finished my first piece of lace. I want to start doing hats or mittens or maybe ever a sweater but it all seems like a big jump. Any tips?” You can listen to all of my back episodes directly from my podcast host Libsyn. Click on the POD icon next to the episode name to play an episode. This should work well on mobile or desktop. Taking knitting to the next step- my best advice is “Go where your interest lies.” After scarves I went to hats. I started top down with the Hill Country Hat (Ravelry Link)  by Clara Parkes, which isn’t typical but I thought that would be easy to measure. The great thing w/ hats is they don’t take long and it will fit SOMEONE. Other easy patterns I tried: Neighborly- Ravelry Link (kid’s vest) by Jennifer Casa (Free) & 5-hour baby sweater (cardigan)- Ravelry Link by Courtney Filner (free) I also recommend Tin Can Knits Simple Collection- Ravelry Link. On a Happy Note Starbucks Cold Brew with Dark Cocoa Almondmilk Foam Found a new longer trail local nature preserve! Big upgrade at work has gone well and more importantly- its mostly behind us! Dan bought me a Li’l Sebastian Mug (which he purchased online as we binged Season 7 of Parks and Recreation) Great to see my cousin Gayle who came down for a visit! Fridge and freezer broke (not so happy) but with a recommendation on a local repair shop, it was fixed the same day we called! Cool enough weather to wear handknits- I wore to my Soldotna for visit to Staci’s Stitches.  Quote of the Week Humor is the antidote to overthinking. It’s a way of saying that life is paradoxical. Humor contains contradictions; it does not resolve them but revels in them. It says that the right way to exist among the contradictions, paradoxes, and absurdities of life is to cope with them through laughter. — Bob Mankoff Contact Information: Ravelry: BostonJen & Down Cellar Studio Podcast Ravelry Group Twitter: Instagram: BostonJen1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/downcellarstudio Sign up for my email newsletter to get the latest on everything happening in the Down Cellar Studio!

Emelyn dela Peña has been the Associate Vice Provost for Inclusion, Community and Integrative Learning at Stanford for the last year. However, back at age 22, Emelyn was having an identity crisis about her future career options. She was a senior at UCSD and had changed her major five times from engineering, to computer science, to political science, and finally ethnic studies. She was also an RA during this year, and realized her passion for helping students could help drive her job opportunities moving forward. Emelyn Stuart is the first Black Latino to own a movie theater in Brooklyn, "Stuart Cinema and Cafe." Emelyn’s a business woman that loves the arts. She has a background in real estate and business. A friend presented her with a script and she signed on as a producer. She caught the bug and gained a passion to help filmmakers to life. After going to many festivals, she started a film festival, “Ocktober Film Festival.” She want this festival to be about the filmmakers. That later inspired her to open a movie theater, “Stuart Cinema and Cafe.” The model and concept of the theater is to allow independent filmmakers to make money when they screen their movies. Despite her ambition, she faced several challenges in getting investors to buy into her concept for this movie theater. She refused to take no for an answer so she liquidated her assets and birthed her vision and built “Stuart Cinema & Cafe.” It worked out better than Emelyn envisioned because she has total creative control. In addition to screening movies, she host book signings, gaming nights, community events and much more. Emelyn said that she still mostly enjoys producing!   To learn more about what Emlyn Stuart is working on visit: https://www.stuartcinema.com https://www.ocktoberfilmfest.com/ https://www.stuartfilmgroup.com   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stuartcinema/   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/stuartcinemacafe

Today, in Episode 7, I sit down with Mrs. Meg Hatz, Alana, Mia, Mrs. Ann Dakins, Maggie, & Emelyn to discuss a few Enrichment Experiences at Bryan Middle School. In Mrs. Hatz's class, our middle school students learn to communicate using basic sign language (alphabet, numbers, emotions, nouns, and more). In Mrs. Dakin's "Spreading the JOY" class, students take the lead through the arts and community outreach programs. These are only two of the many opportunities students have to grow and enhance their own learning, as we allow our students to pursue their interests through selecting their own enrichment experiences in Elmhurst D205.

A non-stressful holiday season. There are a couple more things I'd like to do and things I'd like to get, but shopping is mostly done. Waiting on a few things to come in by mail so I can wrap- which I'll enjoy doing. Turns out I'm a Grinchalong fail. Still making gifts because I can...and my heart keeps growing 3 sizes.

Met Kris, Matt, Aila and Will for an unseasonably warm day of Apple picking at Applecrest in Hampton Falls NH. Every year they add something- this year it was a sunflower maze. So beautiful. Only regret was not taking photos earlier in the day. They started turning away from the sun as the day went on. Congrats to Mom and Dad on their 40th anniversary! Finished my first session of Hiit Classes at the gym near work. It was brutal but I definitely feel stronger. I was able to sign up for the 3 out of the next 8 I'm able to go to. Set up my phone and Dan’s phone to auto upload our photos to Dropbox. I am still looking for better photo management solution to replace iPhoto. Have any tips for me? I've backed up my photos to Google Photos I am working on a new habit of deleting photos off my phone each night before bed. I purchased an eye-fi SD card from Amazon. This will send my camera photos onto my phone so I can edit, upload, share with others, put right into Project life app on my phone. I love it! It was easy to set and it is easy to use. Contests, News and Notes   Fuller Craft Museum- Revolution in the Making: The Pussyhat Project (opens 1/21/18): article link     The Fuller Craft Museum is calling for submissions to come with a written description of the story behind the hats, which are often made as an act of meditation. Contributors are also asked to first send a photograph of their pussy hat to the Fuller Craft Museum before submitting, to make sure there is no overlap in design with other hats already received by the museum.   Patterns I'm excited about Slip and Swirl Socks by Kristi Barnwell of the In a Sknit podcast Susan B Anderson's Butterfly & Cocoon pattern available for individual sale on Ravelry   Life in Focus Happiness Project 2017 March Happiness Project- Automation Struggling a little more with this one but I have made some progress. Only have 1 credit card. Set it to auto pay each month. Set up my phone and Dan’s phone to auto upload our photos to Dropbox. I store all of our photos and its easier and takes less time this way than having to take Dan’s phone and plug it into my computer. Still looking for better photo management solution. If others have tips. Have all Macs. iPhoto. Slow. crashes. Not ideal. I have lightroom from disc, not creative cloud. may move to one of those options but need to decide. In the meantime, at least our photos are safe and backed up. Also backing up ALL my photos phone and computer to Google Photo which I mentioned in this segment last month. Trying out new habit of deleting photos off my phone each night before bed. Strategy of pairing- write in journal and delete bad photos before bed Bought an Eye fi card from Amazon. Puts camera photos onto my phone so i can edit, upload, share with others, put right into Project life app on my phone. Really easy to use. Connect to the wifi network when it comes up. open app on my phone and photos download into the app. Download onto my phone's photo app only if I choose, which is nice! Easy to use. Glad I have it. Still may not always use it, but I enjoy having that option.   On A Happy Note  Spring shopping. Not totally happy about the shopping process but happy to have a few things that fit well. Trying new recipes (I don’t enjoy the process, but the result make me happy) New to me things: cooking lentils and trying chipotle sauce (to replicate bowl from B Good). Scrapbooking, documenting important memories, ordering photos from Persnickety Prints Hanging out with our friends daughters- Carina and Ella Dinner and movie for my friend Megg's birthday! Family fun at a local fundraiser. Emelyn asking to go on a birthday date with Dan (and him saying yes, but they need to go out for a fancy dinner!) Quote of the Week "Two things define you. Your patience when you have nothing, and your attitude when you have everything." -Unknown

As the saying goes: "Dress for the job you want, not the one you have.” But, ok. What if you can’t exactly wear Prada to work each day? And the affordable options just don’t fit right or are made of lousy materials? That’s where today's guests enter. Dorie Smith and Emelyn Northway are the co-founders of Of Mercer, career wear for the modern professional woman. They met one fateful day while both attending business school at the University of Pennsylvania. They spotted each other across a crowded room because – guess what? They were wearing identical outfits. They initially launched the brand back in 2013 as an ecommerce site. The company has received praise from top media outlets including The New York Times, Forbes and Inc. Magazine. Last year they finally opened their first brick and mortar store in New York City. So how do two business students – with no experience in fashion – get the know-how and raise enough money to start a successful fashion line? And how to know when pairing up with a business partner makes sense? For more information visit www.somoneypodcast.com.
