Mark 1 : 14 - 20, The One Who Comes and Calls, Tee Gatewood by Arbor Dale Church
Pastor Jeff Gleason
In this familiar passage (Luke 5:17-26) of Jesus healing the paralytic, Jesus demonstrates that He is the One who comes with amazing power and authority from on high.
In the presence of his integrity, our own pretense is exposed. In the presence of his constancy, our cowardice is brought to light. In the presence of his fierce love for God and for us, our own hardness of heart is revealed. —Barbara Brown Taylor

Tis the season for feeling tired and overwhelmed and straight outta gas (2020-2022 have been so very taxing). Looking for a little light? Consider Elijah. Better yet, consider Elijah's God. In this episode: a snack made by an angel, a desert hike, and an unforgettable whisper.

Palm Sunday is not just Palm Sunday; it is more properly Palm/Passion Sunday. That slash is important. It is a reminder that there is risk involved in taking the side of the marginalized. There is danger in trying to upset the status quo. And just when you think you've won your point and gathered your crowd, you discover you are alone again.
Are we willing to follow who Jesus truly is or are we set to turn on him like the crowds because he doesn't fit the box we have created for him?
Mark 11:1 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 3 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’ ” 4 They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, 5 some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” 6 They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 7 When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. 8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. 9 Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” 10 “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

As we look at Genesis 3 we see the devastating consequence of sin, but we also see the promise of the One Who was to come (Jesus) and how He has now offered us freedom from the curses of sin and death.

John the Baptist prepared the way for the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Have you been baptized by Jesus?

As we explore Mark's Palm Sunday account of the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem we see signs and symbols intended to proclaim to us exactly who it is that is entering the city: the King, the Messiah, the Savior, the Son of David. Indeed, the list goes on and on.

John the Baptist’s ministry was a big deal, so when it dried up how come he not only retained his poise he overflowed with joy? Jesus came from above, is above and sees and knows everything – His testimony, His truth about how we should live now and can live for eternity is invaluable, but it’s only for those who will commit – have you set your seal on Jesus?
From Mark's account of the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem we see signs and symbols that proclaim who Jesus is: Lord, King, Messiah, Liberator, Savior, Son of David. These signs help us interpret the Easter narrative and see how the Easter story invites us to participate in new creation.

Jesus Is ''The One Who Comes'' in the Name of Yahweh (Mark 11: 1-12)
As Jesus travels up to Jerusalem, resistance begins to mount with conflicts between him and the Pharisees as well as suggestions that Herod may be seeking after him, as he had done with John the Baptist. Jesus continues on his way, confident that he comes in the name of the Lord and that the mission for the Kingdom cannot be defeated. Once we have discovered what we are willing to die for then learning what we are willing to live for comes naturally.
