Show Notes Yeah, exactly. And it means you can, if you see it in its sort of native place, next time that you're writing something, maybe you don't go and change all your IEnumerables to IAsyncEnumerable because that's not worth doing. But maybe next time you're writing a new API you're like, "oh, you know what, I will use that newer API because it will give me better performance. And when I'm writing it, it's easy to just use the new thing and it's more applicable to this situation." — Andrew Lock Welcome to The Modern .NET Show! Formerly known as The .NET Core Podcast, we are the go-to podcast for all .NET developers worldwide and I am your host Jamie "GaProgMan" Taylor. In this episode, Andrew Lock joined us to talk about ASP .NET Core's new Minimal APIs paradigm. Along the We also talked about validation, and the third edition of his book "ASP .NET Core in Action" from Manning Publishing. So it's sort of interesting, the philosophy, because obviously validation was one of the things they had some pushback. In MVC You've got validation there by default, and clearly you always want to have validation of your arguments. So why didn't they include it in minimal APIs? And the answer basically is because there's more than one validation framework. There's the data annotation attributes... but then there's other frameworks like the fluent validation, for example, is a very popular one. And the only way that works in MVC is you have to sort of try and plug it in as an extra part and remove the old validation. And they didn't want to prioritize any particular style of doing validation. — Andrew Lock So let's sit back, open up a terminal, type in dotnet new podcast and we'll dive into the core of Modern .NET. What makes “cults” so intriguing and frightening? What makes them powerful? The reason why so many of us binge Manson documentaries by the dozen and fall down rabbit holes researching suburban moms gone QAnon is because we're looking for a satisfying explanation for what causes people to join—and more importantly, stay in—extreme groups. We secretly want to know: could it happen to me? Amanda Montell's argument is that, on some level, it already has . . . Our culture tends to provide pretty flimsy answers to questions of cult influence, mostly having to do with vague talk of “brainwashing.” But the true answer has nothing to do with freaky mind-control wizardry or Kool-Aid. In Cultish, Montell argues that the key to manufacturing intense ideology, community, and us/them attitudes all comes down to language. In both positive ways and shadowy ones, cultish language is something we hear—and are influenced by—every single day. Through juicy storytelling and cutting original research, Montell exposes the verbal elements that make a wide spectrum of communities “cultish,” revealing how they affect followers of groups as notorious as Heaven's Gate, but also how they pervade our modern start-ups, Peloton leaderboards, and Instagram feeds. Incisive and darkly funny, this enrapturing take on the curious social science of power and belief will make you hear the fanatical language of “cultish” everywhere. Montell is joined in this Live Crowdcast episode by Owin Pierson. The episode was recorded on June 23, 2021. You can watch the Zoom recording here. _______________________________________________ Produced by Maddie Gobbo, Lance Morgan, Natalie Freeman, & Michael Kowaleski. In this episode we sit down with advocate and social activist Owin Pierson to discuss his experience walking through the world as both queer and Asian-American. Since he began growing his social media following over five years ago, Owin has been heavily involved in major social movements, including attending Taiwan's celebrations for the legalization of gay marriage and (accidentally) becoming one of the faces of Instagram's guide to Stop Asian Hate. He opens up about a number of experiences that have shaped him into who he is today, and what prompted him to recently move to Hawaii. Owin also speaks on what he hopes to achieve with his platform, and how he believes we can actually enact change.
