From New York to Boston to Washington, we've seen arrests of noncitizens by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, citing ties to Hamas and Hezbollah. The evidence seems to be their participation in protests of the Israel-Gaza war, or social media posts.Civil liberties groups say the legal justifications are tenuous and potentially unconstitutional. The First Amendment protects the right to speak, protest and publish views, regardless of citizenship status. But experts say that deportation is an area where courts have historically granted the executive branch broad latitude — and that gray area is where the Trump administration is operating.Today on “Post Reports,” reporter María Luisa Paúl joins host Colby Itkowitz to outline the rights of noncitizen protesters. And, as reports emerge of travelers being questioned, detained or refused entry at U.S. ports of entry — and of travelers having their phones searched and taken by border patrol officers – technology reporter Heather Kelly shares her guide to locking down your devices.Today's show was produced by Rennie Svirnovskiy. It was mixed by Sean Carter, and edited by Maggie Penman. Subscribe to The Washington Post here.

With the TARDIS launching a new “Doctor Who” on DisneyPlus in May 2024, it's the perfect time to explore The Doctor’s 60-year-plus history, where to start watching, and what you need to know to start your journey as a Whovian. Or, if you are already familiar with this fandom, how can you get others into it? Google is changing the way its search feature works, feeding users AI-generated replies to their questions rather than directing them to other websites. Read more:At its annual developer conference this week, tech giant Google is expected to tout big changes to its signature product, search. Instead of directing users to a list of websites or showing them an excerpt, Google's AI will craft paragraphs of text that tries to answer users' questions directly. AI reporter Gerrit De Vynck says the change could have huge consequences for the internet. Because AI chatbots are still unreliable, and because the information feeding the generative answers comes from a range of sources, users will need to watch out for false information. And the new format means that sources across the web – bloggers, businesses, newspapers and other publishers – are likely to see a huge loss of traffic.Gerrit joins us to break down what the changes to Google search mean for users, and why the company is moving in this direction.Today's show was produced by Emma Talkoff. It was edited by Lucy Perkins and mixed by Sean Carter. Thanks also to Heather Kelly. In episode 120 of the Outdoor Minimalist podcast, we're exploring a topic that has been on my mind throughout 2023 and now as we enter 2024. I've been reading the book Reclaiming Body Trust, and it has made me rethink and evaluate my relationship with food and my body on a deeper level. Especially entering the season of New Year's resolutions, I think it is essential to consider how we can build a healthy relationship with food and with our perception of ourselves. That's why I sat down with Heather Kelly to explore building a healthier relationship with food (on and off the trail). Heather was born and raised in Alaska, which she still calls home today. A two-time NCAA National Champion in women's rowing and voted CRCA/Pocock All-American her senior year, she still considers herself an athlete. She loves everything from CrossFit to weight training to long walks in the woods. While studying at Western Washington University, she earned a degree in Evolutionary Nutrition and went on to study at the Institute for the Psychology of Eating to become a certified eating psychology coach. Heather believes we all have a relationship with food, and that it's important to cultivate a healthy, satisfying relationship with our diet for long-term health. She is the founder and CEO of Heather's Choice®, which produces healthy, lightweight, packable meals and snacks for adventurers worldwide. Every product is handmade in their dedicated gluten-free kitchen in Anchorage, Alaska. The Heather's Choice mission is to put good food in everyone's pack, no matter where their adventures may take them. Before we get to my interview with Heather, I want to announce that the official trailer for the Forever Chemicals podcast just dropped today! You can listen to it exclusively on the Outdoor Minimalist podcast page; soon, more sneak peeks will be coming through. Some parents are using tracking devices meant for keys to keep tabs on kids too young for smartphones. Read more:Apple AirTags are not meant to track your kids. But that's exactly how some parents are using them. In backpacks, on wristbands, they are making it so parents worried about introducing their children to a smartphone can access their child's location in case something goes wrong. And AirTags aren't the only tech marketed toward the fear of parents. There are flip phones, watches and other devices marketed specifically for making sure your child is accounted for. Technology reporter Heather Kelly wanted to look into this as her own son heads into the fourth grade and searches for more independence. She'll uncover how the tech works, its pitfalls and the ethics of tracking your children.
