Dishing with Delishes Podcast | Interviewing Food Bloggers | Help Food Bloggers Grow Their Business | Learn From Others Succe

Learnings and Leanings I decided to do a special edition episode for a few reasons. First, I've been thinking for a while that I'd like to share what I have learned, which feels like a lot: what I've learned from doing this podcast; what I've learned from my guests; what I think and how I feel about all of it. Second, I want to tell you about some changes that are coming. I'll explain more in a bit, but basically the podcast continues to evolve and these changes will reflect that. Thirdly, I want to talk about some of the services I use that I find beneficial for my food blog, Dishes Delish, and think would be helpful for other bloggers. None of my recommendations are sponsored. Snafu and the Lesson Learned The catalyst for this special edition episode was a problem I encountered last Tuesday, March 5th, when I uploaded Elizabeth Falcigno's interview. It was supposed to be published today, March 13th, but actually came out the day I uploaded it. I had scheduled the episode for the correct date and time, but there was a glitch that overrode my settings and Libsyn published it immediately. I noticed what had happened within a few minutes but even though I quickly tried to reschedule it, iTunes had already pulled the feed and people had already started to listen to the episode. To get downloads so quickly was amazing to me, but still, it wasn't what I'd planned. Since this snafu left a hole in my publishing calendar, once I calmed down, I realized it was my chance to record and publish this update instead of an interview. So here we are. One of the things I learned from this snafu is not to freak out about problems that come up, especially if you can't fix them. And believe me, I tried. Was I upset? Yes. Did hubby have to talk me off the figurative "ledge"? You betcha! But basically, what I realized is the only thing that really upset the order of my world was that Elizabeth's episode came out the day before Chris Collins'. Did that hurt anything? No. It just changed something. I feel grateful and protective towards my guests. I want each person to get their time in the spotlight and I was worried that Chris would lose the spotlight because of Elizabeth's episode. Well, that didn't happen. Both episodes have gotten great download numbers even though they came out on consecutive days. So, instead of pulling out my hair and wailing at the technology, I accepted it and I'm happy for the lesson I learned. Letting Stuff Go - Like Plugins Mostly, I have a love/hate relationship with change. I love it in some ways and hate it in other ways. Hubby and I used to change our furniture around a lot because both of us or one of us - usually me - needed the change. The weird thing is I would more often than not feel kind of lost after we plunked the last piece of furniture down. Because of the change. Not that we undid anything, but it used to make me cry a little. The reason I tell you this is because it sort of explains why I hung on as long as I did to using the social sharing plugin called Social Warfare after I learned it was a problem. I'd read comments on Facebook. A lot of people complained the plugin broke their site once they updated it. BROKE THEIR SITE! Can you imagine? The way I dealt with it, was to not update it, which we all know is not a good practice. When I interviewed Andrew Wilder and he raved about Social Pug, the social sharing plugin developed by Mihai Iova from devpups.com, it still took me a few months to decide to actually switch. Even though Andrew mentioned that Social Pug did exactly what Social Warfare did, I still clung to what was 'known'. Well, today I'm really glad I jumped on the Social Pug bandwagon. Not only does it do everything the old plugin did, but when I had some questions and reached out to Mihai to ask them, not only has he responded quickly but he answered my questions and really cared that I understood his answers. So, if you are like me and want to cling to what you know, I'm here to tell you that I don't regret for one moment making the switch to Social Pug! Change might be challenging, but that doesn't mean it's not good. Now, I'm eyeing Mihai's Optin Hound plugin, since I really need to change my current one, which I'm not going to renew. Services I Rely On I've mentioned before on the show the support I get from my virtual assistants, Helena and Vladi. Together they manage different aspects of the website, social sharing, and SEO for me. I've often said that one of the best things I have done for the blog was to get a site audit by Casey Markee, (you can hear his episodes here and here). But the other best thing I have done was to hire Lil Creative Digital Agency, which is Helena and Vladi's company. I've been working with them for almost 2 years and am here to say that their help has done so much for our business. Not only are they efficient and communicative, but they go the extra mile and are always positive. They answer my questions readily and take time out of their lives to send me feedback or brainstorm ideas with me. I consider them my friends. I will be interviewing Helena and Vladi in the coming months, which I'm really looking forward to. Stay tuned for their episode. One of the services I was most excited to hand off to them was the maintenance of the Dishes Delish website. Even though I'm technology savvy, it's hard to keep up with all the changes and frankly, I don't have the time or desire to do it anymore. So, I subscribe to their maintenance package and couldn't be happier. No more staring at the settings for WP Rocket (or some other plug-in) and guessing if I got them set up correctly. I can rest assured that they will get it done and I don't have to worry! As Toni Dash advises, hire someone who has the expertise you don't so you can focus on creating the content only you can create. Changes to the Podcast Okay, here's what I'm planning for the Dishing with Delishes podcast. Don't worry, I'm still going to be producing episodes for the show. Since the podcast is still growing, I'm not actively looking for ways to make money on the show, so my main source of revenue comes from my food blog, Dishes Delish. I'm imagining that as the show grows, I will do some sponsored ads that I'll insert into each episode, but I keep putting it off because I want my listeners to have a great listening experience and being clobbered over the head with an ad takes people out of the experience. When/if I do sponsored ads, I will only promote companies that I think will be beneficial to you, my audience. Just so everyone understands where I'm coming from, each episode takes me a long time to produce. First comes the pre-interview communications. It takes time to reach out to people, ask if they want to be on the show, respond to their questions and then send them next steps, if they do. So, let's say I spend two hours a week doing that. Next, comes the actual interview, which runs anywhere between 35 minutes to an hour. Then, comes the editing, because I'm not sure everyone knows that I edit every single episode. A 30 minute episode takes me, on average, anywhere between 2 1/2 hours and 4 hours to edit. Why does it take me so long? Because I'm a perfectionist. I take out as many "umms", false starts, pauses, and other types of language that I feel detract from the listening experience as I can. When we are in front of someone and speaking, we hardly notice the "umms', the starting of a sentence and then stopping mid-way to say something else. We just accept it as normal. But when you have headphones on and you're listening to the show, they are glaringly obvious. At least to me. They've got to go! Next up is the show notes page. Thankfully, Christopher (hubby) takes some of the writing out of my hands, like editing and inserting the bio we receive from guests. But I compile and add everything else on that page and that takes me around a 1/2 hour per episode. Uploading and configuring each episode for my media host, Libsyn, takes me between 15 minutes and 1/2 hour. After the episode goes live, I write to the guest, providing them links to share their episode with their social media networks (for which I'm eternally grateful, when they do). The last thing I have to do is share the episode to all of my own social media networks. Do you see how much work that is? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to do it. I love talking to my guests and hearing their stories. I love learning from them about their journeys and their businesses and want to continue producing this podcast for many years. But in order to do that, I've decided I have to limit how many episodes I produce. So instead of 52 episodes a year, I will be producing the podcast in seasons - think television seasons. I will have two seasons a year - 20 episodes per season. The first season will start in early January and run to mid May. And the second season will start early July and end before Thanksgiving. I feel very positive about this change. I think it will give me the time I need to focus on the money making activities for my blog while still reaping the benefits of producing the podcast. What I've learned One of the things I've learned after talking with over 70 food bloggers and experts is that we all have different approaches and journeys. Some of us started blogging so family members and friends could access our recipes without us having to provide them over and over via email. Some of us started because we love food and have a deep desire to share it. Some of us started because we learned how easy, fun or beneficial cooking is and wanted to inspire and help others to learn, too. And some of us started blogging as a business opportunity. One of the things I really enjoyed was when Kate Kordsmeier stated loud and clear that she started her blog as a business. It was refreshing to hear that because that's why I started mine. I felt funny saying that to people because it felt shameful on some level. But after hearing Kate say it and knowing other guests did it, now I say it proudly. Another thing I've learned is no matter if you have an expensive full framed camera, a starter DSLR or a smartphone, the more you take photos, the better your photography will be. Like the old saying, practice makes perfect. So keep plugging away and if you get discouraged, go back to your old photos to see how far you've come. Another thing I've learned is to celebrate every win you've accomplished. This is something Christopher and I both try to do whenever possible. Too often we don't take the time to celebrate and that makes us lose an opportunity, because we all know that blogging is hard work. Like, really hard. Why not look at what you've accomplished and celebrate it? The work will always be there. We put in long hours. Unless we are super lucky, it can take years to see results. So I say, stick with it and don't quit, but in the meantime work to improve your writing, your photography or anything else related to your business. It will pay off in the end and bring you satisfaction along the way. That's what I think. What do you think? If you've been listening to the show for a while and/or have a blog of your own, I would love to hear what you've learned, either from Dishing with Delishes guests or from your own journey, in a comment on this page. It doesn't have to be long or include a narrative. Short and sweet is fine. You can also shoot me an email if that's easier. Send it to Elaine at Dishing With Delishes dot com. Also, if I'm not covering the questions you want to hear me asks my guests, please either use the comment section below or email to tell me so. That is all. :) Thank you for listening to my podcast. I appreciate each and every one of you!

In this episode we take A Day Trip to San Pancho, a Beach Community North of Puerto Vallarta. Then an interview with Cassandra Shaw, owner of Cassandra Shaw Jewelry in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.   Listen to The Podcast Hello fellow travelers, welcome this episode of the Puerto Vallarta Travel show. I am your host Barry Kessler and I am just so happy to be introducing you to my favorite vacation destination, and maybe even yours, Puerto Vallarta Mexico. That music you were just listing to is performed by Alberto Perez, the owner of the La Palapa Group of Restaurants. Those are La Palapa, The El [caption id="attachment_196" align="alignright" width="300"] La Palapa, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico[/caption] Dorado Restaurant, and at night for dinner The El Dorado transforms into the ever so romantic Vista Grill with those dramatic views of the Los Muertos Pier all lit up at night in beautiful colors. Of course, at La Palapa you can enjoy that same view of the Los Muertos Pier all day long for breakfast, lunch or dinner, seated with your toes in the sand right at the water’s edge. It’s so romantic, it’s so Puerto Vallarta my friends! This week I have a couple of fun things for you, a day trip to San Pancho, a little town north of Puerto Vallarta, and a great guest, Cassandra Shaw of Cassandra Shaw Jewelry on the Southside of town in Puerto Vallarta, but first, let’s see what’s happening in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, this week the 10th of October 2017. Meet and Greet, Tuesday, October 17th at Kelly’s Pour Favor Saloon and Cookhouse. [caption id="attachment_1633" align="aligncenter" width="404"] Meet and Greet at Pour Favor[/caption] There will be a Meet and Greet, Tuesday, October 17th at Kelly’s Pour Favor Saloon and Cookhouse where I will have my microphones at the ready, to capture your stories and suggestions about the things you are doing in paradise. I’ll have my microphones at the ready so come by and let’s gab. By the way, if you have a business that you want to pitch, a service you want to tell my listeners about, come by and give your business or service a pitch. Come on by, this coming Tuesday evening at Pour Favor on Lazaro Cardenas starting at 6:30, going for couple hours I imagine. Come by. It’s not a live feed or anything guys, I take the audio and make them into interviews so if you are really interesting, or if your story is really compelling, you may end up being the featured guest to a particular episode in the future so who knows right? Now I’m only going to be in town for just a couple of days, just enough time to get some very important interviews for you guys. And you know what? I still haven’t told my wife yet. Oh, I’m not leaving without her, in fact I’m taking her along, she just doesn’t know it yet. Now, I know for a fact that she doesn’t listen to my podcast, so she won’t know till I break the news to her Friday morning. At least, I figure that should give her enough time to buy whatever she needs before we fly out of LAX Monday Morning. Fun fun, fun in the sun! Dia De Los Muertos in Puerto Vallarta Preparations are under way for the day of the Dead Celebrations or Dia de los Muertos, which take place right after the traditional Halloween in the states on the 31st of October, but in the states as well as in Mexico, Mexicans stretch out the celebrations out a little bit and in Mexico, Día de los Muertos is celebrated from the 31st to the 2nd of November. Anyway, there’s lots to be said about the upcoming celebrations throughout the Bajia, and I will be bringing you all of the activities planned for this very festive occasion in Puerto Vallarta. Actually, El Dia De Los Muertos, is the celebration that really kicks off the tourist season in Puerto Vallarta. Now speaking of next week, I will not have an episode of the podcast for you next week due to my planned travels to paradise. You just need to know that I’m not shirking my duties as podcast host,  I’m just going to be busy getting you some of the best interviews and on the ground information you can shake a stick at. Or whatever you shake, stick, whatever. Just go ahead and shake it at it. A Day Trip to San Pancho [caption id="attachment_1709" align="aligncenter" width="1250"] San Pancho Map[/caption] A couple of weeks back, I got an email from Polly who wanted me to do an episode on going to San Pancho. Actually, Polly gave me a great review on iTunes, and she made a request, and now Polly, I’m going to grant your wish and take a day trip with you to San Pancho. Actually formerly known as San Francisco, San Pancho is just 4 kilometers north of the hippy town of Sayulita. Sayulita is located about 38 kilometers north of the Puerto Vallarta Airport. Approximately a 45 minute drive. Now I began my day trip at about 2  on a Saturday afternoon. I was on the Southside and looked for a bus to take me to Walmart. Okay, I know what you are thinking, Barry, aren’t we going to San Pancho? Yes, we are going to San Pancho, so instead of me telling you all of the intricacies of bus taking in Puerto Vallarta, let’s review with JR. I have a clip of a conversation I had with him back in January about taking buses in Puerto Vallarta. Let’s see what he says about catching one of those buses from Vallarta, to those beach towns north. JR, Take it away!!!! Link to JR's Maps  Listen to The Podcast Okay, so I hopped on a bus that said Walmart on the windscreen and I told the driver that I wanted the bus to San Pancho. Quiero el bus a San Pancho. Which means, I want the bus to San Pancho. You can probably just say it in English, and the driver will most likely understand, but hey, learn the lingo. Write it down, practice it. So in this case, the driver did drop me off at the location JR talked about, the one at the beginning of the Libramiento. South, actually way south [caption id="attachment_1714" align="aligncenter" width="5312"] Tienda at The Puerto Vallarta Bus Stop South of Walmart[/caption] of Walmart. And he is right, I was able to get on the bus before the crowd did, and pretty much had my choice of seats. So the driver motioned to me when we got to the stop. I made sure I was sitting up front near him so he could give me the hi sign. So this place where you get dropped off has a tienda where you can buy drinks and stuff, and you walk a little south along the sidewalk and you will see busses lining up. Their destinations written on the windshields of the bus. Before you get on the bus, if you aren’t sure, just ask the driver. They will tell you how much to pay, and you pay them there. If you are planning on making several stops along the way, for instance if you want to stop for breakfast in Sayulita, then move on up north to San Pancho for Lunch, you pay in segments. There’s no day pass. Get it? So the busses are comfortable. Not air conditioned, but reclining seats, and the driver will play their favorite tunes as you travel along the coast, then cut across the Point. If you go to the website at www.puertovallartatravelshow,com, you will see the rout, and the towns you pass through on your way up to San Pancho. [caption id="attachment_1745" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] Bus to San Pancho[/caption] You hit Bucerias, and just before you get to Cruz de Huanacaxtle, route 200 cuts inland, bypassing the Punta de Mita, and travels through a wooded jungle like [caption id="attachment_1740" align="alignleft" width="1000"] San Francisco/San Pancho Fruit Stand[/caption] area, well, it is a jungle out there, really, and eventually you arrive at the coast, in the town of Sayulita. You can get off here, and like JR said, the bus actually drops you off in the middle of town, so you  can actually get off the bus right there, and start exploring the hippit dippie town of Sayulita. It’s colorful, and gringoized with lots of specialty shops, not just your typical Mexican souvenirs, although you will find that too. Great places to eat, and the surfing is all the rage. Although, use caution, there have been many reports of unclean waters there. Something about too many people and not sufficient facilities to properly treat raw sewage. So ask questions before entering the water, and use caution. But hey….we’re on our way to San Pancho right? We are going to stay on that bus, because we paid to get to San Pancho right? Right. The bus continues up the coast to the next stop which is San Pancho. The Bus Stops alongside the highway, at the intersection of Highway 200 and Avineda Tercer Mundo, or in English, Third World Avenue. Kinda has a lovely ring to it doesn’t it?. Humm.  So the bus lets the passengers off at Third World Avenue where there is a huge Pemex station. You cross the highway, and follow the Third World road right to the beach. Like JR said, the walk is about a mile or so, and it takes you right to the beach. You will pass very colorful shops, hotels, B & B’s, Hostels, and restaurants as you walk down this road, and you will see the homes of the people of the town of San Pancho, on the streets behind these establishments. [caption id="attachment_1736" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] San Pancho[/caption] Now, if you don’t want to walk, just wait around for a taxi to take you into town if you like, but if you are in good enough shape, the walk is totally worth it. The closer you get to the beach, the more restaurants you will find, and shops and stuff, and when you get to the end of the road, it makes a T right into the beach. [caption id="attachment_1737" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] San Pancho, Nayarit[/caption] To your right and left you will find numerous beachfront eateries. Now unlike in Puerto Vallarta, this is a wide beach. Lots of sand. So there’s lots of room at this beach to stretch out. To your left, there is a lagoon, and the beach curves out to a rocky outcropping. To the right, the beach stretches for almost a mile. It’s a big beach, I’m telling you. So food and drink are abundant here at and near the beach. The waves are not the quality of Sayulita, but I’ve heard the water is cleaner to swim in. If you want to see a really cool video of San Pancho from the air, my buddy Dan The Flying Man Dimov has this wonderful YouTube video with him flying along in his Paramotor machine, along the coast in San Pancho. [embed]https://youtu.be/p-KEUtAGW8g[/embed] In fact, I’m going to be interviewing Dan on my visit to Puerto Vallarta next week, and I can’t wait to introduce you to him. He takes people up in the air. Tandem on his glider, so you have to check out the video, and definitely listen to the podcast when I air it in the coming weeks. Dan also has a wonderful video he shot the day of the full solar eclipse, along the coast over the Malecon in Puerto Vallarta. I’ll add that video too to the show notes so check that one out too. I can’t make up my mind which one I like best. You decide. [embed]https://youtu.be/moLff_OiPoI[/embed]   I also have some screenshots thanks to Google Earth, showing the town, the bus drop-off spot and the path you will take into town, down Avenida Tercer Mundo. I just love that! So where do you eat? They have a great Bar-b-Que place called Mr. Ribs San Pancho. I couldn’t help myself, it smelled so good. I had pork ribs and [caption id="attachment_1726" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] Mr Ribs[/caption] the fixings. Pretty darn good, and the people watching was great too. Then there is a branch of El Barracuda, run by the same group as in Vallarta. Las Palmas Bar and Grill is the biggest place right on the beach they have lots of loungers for you to sit on and sip an umbrella drink, and watch the people play in the sun, at the beach. There are lots of Mexican families playing at the beach, and of course, tourists too.  Anyway, you won’t go hungry in San Pancho, or San Francisco. Actually, the town is called San Francisco, and the Beach is called San Pancho Beach, but everyone calls the whole place San Pancho, there are literally dozens of places to eat all around you. It’s pretty cool! [caption id="attachment_1729" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] El Barracuda, San Pancho[/caption] I spotted a doughnut lady, and made a beeline for her, and purchased a couple of yummy pastries which I happily munched and headed back up the road, back to highway 200 for my ride back to Vallarta. Once you get to the highway, go to the right and walk about 100 feet to where the busses stop to pick you up, and head back to Walmart, I mean Vallarta. Now bus rides in Puerto Vallarta never are ordinary. Every once in a [caption id="attachment_1746" align="alignright" width="300"] Singer on The Bus[/caption] while, the driver will let someone on the bus who will clear his or her throat and begin a soliloquy, in Spanish of course, and proclaim to their captive audience, we bus riders, their cause, whether it’s a sick family member, maybe they are out of a job and need to feed their family, maybe speak on behalf of a particular cause, and then at the end of their plea, and let me tell you, these guys are really good, I mean, well-spoken and practiced, they will work their way through the bus, hat in hand, collecting pesos from the riders, then, when the bus makes the next stop, they are out the back door of the bus. Sometimes these take longer than a stop or two. I had one where the driver let this guy on, dressed like a clown who literally went on and on for about 15 minutes. Oh my god! But on this ride home, the driver let on this guy you are hearing now. This guy had a jukebox item around his neck, and he sang to the music. He was a pro. He was a little guy, but he sang with such heart. I recorded it for you to listen to. Please indulge me as I play it for you, to get the flavor of the ride, home from San Pancho. [caption id="attachment_1718" align="alignleft" width="300"] Walmart in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico[/caption] [caption id="attachment_1717" align="alignleft" width="300"] Walmart in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico[/caption] So you go to Walmart or to the end of the line, and either take a cab back to your hotel, or a bus back, if you feel comfortable. Just remember, if you are going to the Southside, look for a bus that says Centro on it and not Pittial. Otherwise, you may go on one of those magical mystery tours that JR talks about in our episode about taking busue in Puerto Vallarta. And if you haven’t listened to that one, you really ought to have a look. Also, I have a copy of JR’s map that shows the bus stops that I talked about here. So, that’s the day-trip to San Pancho. Give yourself at least 5 hours total to take the bus back and forth, to get the flavor of the town, to get a bite to eat and a spot to drink, and maybe, just maybe have an opportunity to be serenaded by this guy. I have a photo of him in the show notes of this episode of the show. [caption id="attachment_1719" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] San Pancho Beach[/caption] Now Let’s get to our interview. [caption id="attachment_1751" align="aligncenter" width="576"] Cassandra Shaw Jewelry[/caption] In my previous life, I was in the jewelry business, before real estate. Like for 36 years, I worked in the industry. I’m a jewelry designer by trade, a GIA trained Graduate Gemologist and a American Gem Society Certified Gemologist. So naturally, I’m attracted to shiny things, and jewelry stores. And as you walk down Basillio Badillo, you will notice a beautiful storefront and behind the glass you will notice stunning incredible pieces of jewelry, and art pieces. You know right away that this is a special place. Well, being a nosy person, I wanted to meet the lovely lady who has her name on the front of the store, Cassandra Shaw. We talked for a little bit, and I knew right [caption id="attachment_1755" align="alignright" width="300"] Bean Pup[/caption] away that you had to meet her. Let’s go to Puerto Vallarta Mexico, and talk with Cassandra Shaw, of Cassandra Shaw Jewelry. [caption id="attachment_1759" align="alignleft" width="300"] Cassandra Shaw Ring[/caption] Listen to The Podcast   [caption id="attachment_1758" align="alignleft" width="428"] Cassandra Shaw Necklace[/caption] So now you know Cassandra. Don’t be afraid to go into the store, and explore. I know jewelry stores can be intimidating to enter, but these people are so nice and down to earth. Really check out her place. You will be so glad you did. It costs no more than if you were to use someone else so do it. Really. And when you do take one of these tours, email me about your experiences. Subscribe on iTunes & Leave a Good Review     Listen to the Podcast Hello fellow travelers, welcome this episode of the Puerto Vallarta Travel show. I am your host Barry Kessler and I am just so happy to be introducing you to my favorite vacation destination, and maybe even yours, Puerto Vallarta Mexico. That music you were just listing to is performed by Alberto Perez, the owner of the La Palapa Group of Restaurants. Those are La Palapa, The El [caption id="attachment_194" align="alignright" width="300"] La Palapa, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico[/caption] Dorado Restaurant, and at night for dinner The El Dorado transforms into the ever so romantic Vista Grill with those dramatic views of the Los Muertos Pier all lit up at night in beautiful colors. Of course, at La Palapa you can enjoy that same view of the Los Muertos Pier all day long for breakfast, lunch or dinner, seated with your toes in the sand right at the water’s edge. It’s so romantic, it’s so Puerto Vallarta my friends! Today we will be talking with two great couples who are working shoulder to shoulder building businesses here in Paradise, but before we get to them let’s see what’s happening in Puerto Vallarta this week, the 4th of October, 2017.   Rain, Rain and more rain in Puerto Vallarta The rainy season has been wet all right. Still getting lots of rain in Puerto Vallarta with above average rainfall this year, and the locals are getting restless for things to dry out around here. Remember, it’s hot and humid with afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Gullywashers to be more exact. Things will begin to get better as the rainfall will begin to taper off this month and then less rain again in November, then it’s off to the winter dry season during the high season.   Successful Fundraiser at Act II [embed]https://youtu.be/_S_PjUZoORI[/embed] Last week I talked about the many fundraisers around Vallarta in support of Mexico Earthquake relief, and I told you about the event being planned over at Act 2, Danny Minnini’s place in the romantic zone. Well, they had entertainment by Paul Fracassi, Diana Valeria Villamonte , Gabe Arciniega, TRINITY, Cesar Medina, Alfonso López, Elvis Morales, Joby Hernández and many more. There was art by Francine Peters, a famous Vallarta Artist that fetched a pretty penny, thanks Francine, you are great, so many silent auction items and gift certificates. They are still totaling it all up and here’s what Danny says,   We are still collecting and adding up the totals, but we think we are between 250,000 and 300,000 pesos. We sold it out because we had 39 reservations not show up. 57,000 in ticket sales. Thank you, everyone. [caption id="attachment_1634" align="aligncenter" width="772"] Music For Mexico Earthquake Relief[/caption] So what is that like 15 to $17,000 US. Dude! That’s a lot of dough. Great job to all the folks that made that happen and as I promised, we are going to have an episode with Danny really soon, to discuss the upcoming season, so stay tuned for that. [caption id="attachment_1346" align="alignright" width="300"] Act II Stages[/caption] [caption id="attachment_1366" align="alignleft" width="340"] Danny Mininni[/caption] Meetup As I announced last week, I’m planning another meet and greet at Kelly’s Pour Favor Cookhouse and Saloon in a couple of weeks at JR’s Meet and Greet, Tuesday, October 17th from 6:30 till whenever. Come and let me know what you are doing I  paradise, and if you are a business and want to give a pitch for yourselves and introduce yourself to my audience, come on down and let’s chat. Just remember that this show is rated as clean in iTunes so I have the right to bleep you out, or at least your profanities. I think I told you about the last meet and greet. A drunken brawl, that’s what it was. [caption id="attachment_1633" align="aligncenter" width="404"] Meet and Greet at Pour Favor[/caption] So, if you are in town see you there.   Donate to Tile Park [caption id="attachment_1610" align="aligncenter" width="1077"] Donate to Tile Park PV[/caption] My friend Nancy Page works with Natasha Moraga who is going to be tiling Lazaro Cardenas Park. And Nancy announced The public launch of the fundraising for the park and it starts like this….”Natasha Moraga and Mosayko Vallarta are one of the most recognized names in the Puerto Vallarta Art Community with her signature mosaic style. She has just begun her dream project with her brother Daniel Moraga, creating another internationally recognized icon in Puerto Vallarta: El Parque de los Azulejos / Tile Park   PV. Nancy shared more information regarding  fundraising for the park…”Sponsorship tiles are available to purchase to leave your mark in this captivating piece of public art. You can commemorate this special project with Memorial Tiles, Celebration Tiles, Performer Tiles, Business Tiles or Celebration Benches . Help us make our park even more beautiful with your contribution of a tile and a story. info@tileparkpv.com” [caption id="attachment_1537" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] Art Rendering Parque de Azulejos[/caption] So look for them on Facebook and like their page and get all the info you need at El Parque De Los Azulejos at Facebook.com Check it out and buy a tile before they are all gone, and get your name or your pets name or your children’s names in the park. Make your mark in Puerto Vallarta. Let’s get on with the show.   [caption id="attachment_1679" align="alignleft" width="190"] Todd & Kathleen Atkins, Lix and Xocodiva in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico[/caption] I have two interviews with two American Couples, making a go at running a business in Puerto Vallarta. The first couple, Kathleen and Todd were looking to retire in Puerto Vallarta, and couldn’t sit still, so they became business owners and entrepreneurs. They create and sell what some would consider a staple and that is Ice Cream and chocolates. The second couple, Miranda and Reid, are a younger couple who are starting their first business, looking to make their mark brewing and serving what some would consider a staple as well, and that is Beer. The first interview today is with Kathleen and Todd Atkins. I’m going to let them tell their stories. They are the new owners and operators of two businesses, Lix Ice Cream Shop, and Xocodiva Artisan Chocolate, both sweet spots, loved by so many locals and visitors. So let’s visit with these two lovely people and hear their stories, Kathleen and Todd Atkins. [caption id="attachment_1687" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] Xocodiva Chocolate, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico[/caption] Our Next Interview is with Miranda and Reid I first met Reid and Miranda at the Meet and Greet back in May. That’s the meet and greet [caption id="attachment_1678" align="alignright" width="300"] Monzon Brewery with Miranda and Reid Mortimer[/caption] where half of the interviews were not good for human consumption, but the conversation with Reid and Miranda was not a drunken one, although if you remember the interview with the PV Kid Jeff Musto that I had at the same meet and greet, there was a barking dog in the background, that was theirs. During that week, I would bump into them walking along the Malecon, or at a restaurant. Anyway, this young couple was opening a brewery on the southside of town and wanted to tell us about their new place. The name of the brewery is Monzon which means Monsoon in Spanish. So after this clip, we will [caption id="attachment_1692" align="alignleft" width="239"] Manzon Brewery, Puerto Vallarta[/caption] go back to Vallarta, and see how they are doing. But first let’s get to Reid and Miranda, owners and operators at Monzon Brewing Company, six months ago, at the Meet and Greet at Kelly’s Pour Favor, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.   [caption id="attachment_1676" align="alignleft" width="681"] Manzon Brewery, Puerto Vallarta[/caption] [caption id="attachment_1674" align="alignleft" width="1000"] Mural by Adrian Takano in Manzon Brewery, Puerto Vallarta[/caption] [caption id="attachment_1673" align="alignleft" width="255"] Pairing Food at Manzon Brewery, Puerto Vallarta[/caption] [caption id="attachment_1672" align="alignleft" width="259"] Delicious Food at Manzon Brewery, Puerto Vallarta[/caption] [caption id="attachment_1671" align="alignleft" width="250"] Pairing Food at Manzon Brewery, Puerto Vallarta[/caption] Listen to The Podcast Okay, let’s listen now, 6 months later, and see what is happening at Monzon Brewery.   Places Reid and Miranda like Lolitas Puerto Vallarta for Breakfast Figueroa’s Burritos  Lunch Tacos Revolution Bar la Playa Devils Bar, Puerto Vallarta Any Taco Stand Advice;  Do Whatever You Want Have a Fun Time A Shout Out to La Trez Cuartoz Band Facebook Page for La Trez Cuartoz [embed]https://youtu.be/rPT_sFYgdiI[/embed] Monzon Brewing.com Facebook Twitter Instagram Yelp Monzon Brewing Company Trip Advisor Monzon Brewing Company Interview with Kathleen and Todd Places Todd and Kathleen Like Tre Piatti Puerto Vallarta Mi Café, Puerto Vallarta Incanto, Puerto Vallarta Divino Dante Trio, Puerto Vallarta The Iguana, Puerto Vallarta Hacienda San Angel Bonito Kitchen, Puerto Vallarta Barcelona Tapas, Puerto Vallarta El Barracuda, Puerto Vallarta Tsunami Sushi, Puerto Vallarta Bravos, Puerto Vallarta Lix Facebook Page Xocodiva Facebook Page Lix Website Xocodiva Website   Well, thanks you Reid and Miranda. No, this episode is not really as long as it may look for the overall episode time (kind of). We just put some bonus content at the end of the regular episode that lasts about 45 minutes longer. I have been working hard over the last 2 months developing and designing a brand new Law Abiding Biker Podcast and Media website. I was able to finally launch it about a week ago, so enjoy http://www.lawabidingbiker.com. I wanted the new website to be clean and very user friendly, so I hope it is a good experience for you each time you visit. The main topic of this episode is the recent 7 day motorcycle trip that members of the Sworn Few Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club took through Oregon, California, Nevada, and Washington. We have some useful information and things that came up along with some interesting and funny stories. Harley Davidson Front Brake Line Recall Harley-Davidson has issued a massive recall for its ABS-equipped 2014 Touring models. The recall notice affects 66,421 units. At issue is placement of the bike’s front brake line, which may become pinched between the fuel tank and frame and potentially lock-up the front wheel. I just got the recall taken care of on my 2014 Harley Davidson Street Glide Special and it took about 20 minutes at the dealer. The mechanics remove your gas tank, inspect the brake line for damage, and then put two zip ties (cable straps) to keep the line in place so it can't get pinched. Here are the Harley Davidson models that may are affected. For this most recent brake line recall, H-D owners can contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. The affected recall units are from the models listed below manufactured from July 1, 2013 through May 7, 2014: 2014 FLHP Road King Police 2014 FLHR Road King 2014 FLHRC Road King Classic 2014 FLHRSE CVO Road King 2014 FLHTCU Electra Glide Ultra Classic 2014 FLHTCUTC (Uncertain on specific model, but potentially FLHTCUTG Tri Glide Ultra Trike) 2014 FLHTK Electra Glide Ultra Limited 2014 FLHTKSE CVO Limited 2014 FLHTKSHRINE Electra Glide Ultra Limited Shrine Edition 2014 FLHTP Electra Glide Police 2014 FLHX Street Glide 2014 FLHXS Street Glide Special 2014 FLHXSHRINE Street Glide Shrine Edition Emails covered: Email: Kim Pharris of Huntington, TX My husband & I just bought 2014 Street Glide Specials and haven't been able to find rear lowering kits.
