Ryan Warsofsky just completed his second season as the head coach of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, this past season leading them to 39 wins, an 18 win improvement over 2025. He also served as the head coach for the U.S. Men's National Team for the first time at the 2025 IIHF Men's World Championship, winning a gold medal. Prior to joining the Sharks, Warsofsky was the head coach of the Chicago Wolves of the AHL for two seasons (2020-22), where, in 2022, at age 34, he became the youngest coach since Peter Laviolette in 1999 to guide a team to the Calder Cup. He also spent two seasons with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers, one as an assistant (2018-19) and one as head coach (2019-20). In 2019, he helped guide the Checkers to a Calder Cup. Warsofsky's coaching career began in 2012-13 with his alma mater NCAA Division III Curry College as an assistant after two seasons with the team as a player. He then joined the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays in 2013, serving as an assistant for three seasons before being promoted to head coach and director of hockey operations for his final two seasons (2016-18). In our conversation today, we discuss what it is like to be the youngest head coach in the NHL and the leadership dynamic that he brings to the locker room. We discuss the importance of joy, patience, Ryan's non-negotiables, and what makes a great leader. We also discuss coaching Gen Z athletes, the importance of fundamentals, and how to negotiate the world of social media to continue to build trust and great team culture.

Jaxon Castor truly has a unique story. His hockey career has taken him through some tremendous ups and downs and to several parts of the country. Castor grew up in Phoenix, played about 1 1/2 seasons in the USHL for the Dubuque Fighting Saints, got traded to the Shreveport Mudbugs in the NAHL, committed to Arizona State but could not get in academically, played a season for the St. Cloud State club team and the last three seasons for the Huskies NCAA Division I team. As a junior, he had a tough run through the postseason, filling in for David Hrenak, who missed the playoffs with pneumonia. Last season, he mostly shared the net with Dominic Basse before playing five excellent games in the postseason, helping the Huskies win the NCHC Frozen Faceoff and reach a regional championship game. Then he made his pro debut with the Florida Everblades in the ECHL, got called up to help the Charlotte Checkers in the AHL and then returned to be on the roster for the Everblades, who won the Kelly Cup title as ECHL playoff champions. We hear about the journey in this episode of the Huskies Hockey Insider podcast with Mick Hatten.
Locked On Capitals - Daily Podcast On The Washington Capitals
In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the idea of having Hunter Shepard as a backup goalie for the Capitals and leaving the option open to trade Charlie Lindgren. I believe that Hunter would be an upgrade for one and I also thing viewing Lindgren as a "trade chip" a good idea. Shepard was ranked the #2 goalie in all of the AHL last season during the regular season boasting a 0.916 save percentage, 2.18 goals against average and a 20-8 record. NBC Sports Wasington said "Shepard went 3-1-0-0 with just seven goals allowed and 85 saves in the Bears' second-round series win over the Charlotte Checkers. After competing with Fucale for playing time for most of the season, Shepard earned the confidence of the coaching staff to lead the Bears on a deep playoff run." Charlie is a good goalie but I do believe Shepard is an upgrade. According to the Hockey News"Lindgren started 26 games and played in 31 for Washington this past season and also made a statement as a star of the month back in December when he led his team through a surge with Darcy Kuemper concussed. Through 11 games that month, he boasted a league-high nine wins with a .929 save percentage and 2.02 GAA. There were some struggles later in the year that led to a final .899 save percentage to close out the year. And while he wanted some of those goals back, he remained confident in his ability and said that he did what he wanted to do: improve and play a key role, whether he was starting or backing up."
