In this episode of the Bible Reading Recap, Ted Ryskoski, Lance Lawson, and Rachel Chester begin walking through the book of Hebrews. In what is essentially a first century sermon, Hebrews describes and meditates on the majesty of all Jesus is and all he has done for his people. The Creator and Sustainer of the universe, the greater and final prophet, the exact image of God, the High Priest and King who mediates for all and rules over all . . . and that's only the first four verses.

In this unique lament prayer, David believes he is near death. He asks God both for healing and deliverance on account of God's unfailing love and while most of the prayer displays David's despondency, by the end, his tone and demeanor drastically improve.----------------------------Please follow us on these platforms:Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@JointhesearchTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jointhesearchInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jointhesearchtodayFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/jointhesearchtoday

Cancelled. It's easy to think of this as a 21st century phenomenon, but three millennia ago, David is deeply concerned about reputational damage. These songs speak of the king's desire for peace, his distress and his need for healing, but most of all they demonstrate his deep need for - and love of God.What's more, these psalms demonstrate remarkable humility for a proven military conqueror and one of the most powerful kings in the ancient Near East.Written and produced by Chas BayfieldMusic by Michael Auld and Jon Hawkins MusicCover art by Lisa Goff

Historically, Psalm 6 has been called one of the 7 “penitential psalms.” In other words, it teaches us how to repent when we've sinned, or when we're experiencing the consequences of sin in general. The relief we long for is only found in the Lord Jesus Christ. He has taken the full weight of God's wrath against sin. And because of this, we know that when we sin, we have a constant path laid down for us for repentance and returning to him. In this sermon, we learn three parts of repentance.

Have you ever needed to just speak your peace? David spoke his peace to God. Then he was able to boldly speak to those that were trying to harm to him. John and Sean continue the series "Mix Tape Vol 2" a look at the first 8 Psalms. They cover Psalm 6 in this episode.

Christian, the Lord is for you. He is not against you.
This Sunday, Ethan May, Pastor of Community Life and Outreach at Anchor Bay Church, joined us to remind us that God's love and mercy removes any perceived distance we feel from God. While “confession” isn't quite a big feeling as much as it's an act, it's still an important theme that we see throughout the Psalms. And, the idea of confessing does often bring with it other big feelings or thoughts. Sometimes we can think of confession as being the thing right before punishment. We confess, then we're punished. If we think of confession in that way it's obviously a bad thing in our minds. So then what happens when we hear the Bible say, “Confess your sins to God”? It's easy to think of confession like that, like it's a big “gotcha!” moment. But what happens when we live like that and avoid it at all costs? When we don't come to God, we hold it all in. And as time passes, and we feel as if this great abyss forms between us and God. It feels like our sin is keeping us from God. But there is no abyss—because Christ has already died on the cross, defeating sin once and for all. He doesn't have to do it again, our sins don't mean we're putting him back up on the cross. Christ has already died for us, already risen, and already bridged any gap that we've let our sins convince us we've created.
Welcome to Day 2412 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 6:1-10 Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2412 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2412 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. In today's Wisdom Nugget, I will guide you through the vast landscapes of biblical wisdom. Today, we're delving into Psalm 6:1-10 from the New Living Translation. This Psalm is David's heartfelt prayer, expressing deep sorrow and an emotional plea for God's mercy and deliverance. Let's explore these verses together and discover their profound insights for our spiritual journey. Psalm 6:1-10 (NLT): 1 O Lord, don't rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your rage. 2 Have compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. 3 I am sick at heart. How long, O Lord, until you restore me? 4 Return, O Lord, and rescue me. Save me because of your unfailing love. 5 For the dead do not remember you. Who can praise you from the grave? 6 I am worn out from sobbing. All night I flood my bed with weeping, drenching it with my tears. 7 My vision is blurred by grief; my eyes are worn out because of all my enemies. 8 Go away, all you who do evil, for the Lord has heard my weeping. 9 The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord will answer my prayer. 10 May all my enemies be disgraced and terrified. May they suddenly turn back in shame. A Cry for Mercy: David begins this Psalm with a heartfelt cry to God: “O Lord, don't rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your rage. Have compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. I am sick at heart. How long, O Lord, until you restore me?” (verses 1-3). Here, David is acutely aware of his own frailty and the weight of God's discipline. He pleads for mercy, recognizing that he is weak and in desperate need of God's compassion and healing. This plea is for physical healing and spiritual and emotional restoration. David's cry, “How long, O Lord, until you restore me?” echoes a deep sense of longing and urgency. It reminds us that in times of distress, it's natural to feel impatient and to question how long our suffering will last. Yet, this questioning also reveals a trust in God's ability to restore and heal. These verses serve as a powerful reminder to turn to God in our moments of weakness and seek His mercy and healing. When we feel overwhelmed by the challenges we face, we can come before God with honesty and vulnerability, trusting in His compassion and unfailing love. A Plea for Deliverance: David continues his prayer in verses 4 and 5 with a plea for deliverance: “Return, O Lord, and rescue me. Save me because of your unfailing love. For the dead do not remember you. Who can praise you from the grave?” In these verses, David appeals to God's unfailing love as the basis for his plea for rescue. He understands that only through God's intervention can he be saved from his dire situation. David's reference to the dead not remembering God or praising Him from the grave highlights his desire to
In this journey through a Psalm we take a look at a Psalm where the writer clearly is angry, prays some things we'd never pray... and then praises God in the end. Ya know, that's actually the whole point... that whatever you have and whatever you feel... you can take that to God. He can handle it. Actually, He can handle it best.
How long, O Lord? That's the central question of Psalm 6, and also a question we might find ourselves asking in times of despair or hopelessness. In this week's message, Pastor Connor walks through this Psalm and what it teaches us about praying through hard seasons of life. We can follow David's example by focusing on the truth God has revealed and remembering His promises to us.Connor and Teresa cover what a penitential Psalm is, talk about debate among commentators over this particular passage, and discuss possible reactions to experiencing evil in our lives and some dangers associated with taking even those perspectives that come from good intentions to an extreme. Oh, and we get to hear funny (or bad) sermon titles Teresa found. If you would like to watch the video podcast, find us on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMhDfGn0zfzi6XjcKkSVcFAFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/discovertbcInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/topekabiblechurchWebsite: https://www.discovertbc.com/
