Crop Rotation- Why is it Important? Crop Rotation is key to having a successful garden for many years. The act of crop rotation means to change up what type of crop you plant in a particular area. If you plant lettuce, lettuce, lettuce, multiple times in one season, you will be prone to more pests and problems because the insects that feed off lettuce will continue to come back. You will also strip your soil of all its nutrients since one crop family has different needs than another crop family. So, you need to know what crops are in what family. Knowing the crop families will help you in the Fall garden planning. What you want to succession plant and where you want to plant is something that needs to be planned before you start your Fall garden. The following families are the cool-season crop families: Alliums- Onions, Leeks, Garlic, ShallotsBrassicas- Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Kohlrabi, Turnips, Radish, Rutabega, MustardAmaranths- Beets, Chard, SpinachUmbellifers- Carrots, Cilantro, Parsley, Dill, ParsnipsLegumes- English PeasDaisy- Lettuce Ensuring that you follow Alliums with a Legume or Brassicas all garden season will ensure that you have a bountiful harvest. It will also keep your soil in top-notch shape, and you will have less of a need for cover crops. Things to Consider When Planning Crop Rotation! When you sit down to consider your Fall garden schedule, there are many things you need to consider. One of those being the maturity dates of things, it would help if you tried to schedule crops with similar maturity dates together. You also want to think about a plant's needs and plant those with similar needs next to each other. Don't plant carrots that barely need any water next to something that requires a lot, same with fertilization. Also, when planning your crop rotation, you want to think about which seeds are a one-time harvest and which ones are multiple harvests. Of course, this depends on your preference and how many yields you would like to get off each plant, but these are the ones we get multiple crops out of: CollardsKaleMustard & Greens MixesAll Top TurnipsBaby Lettuce MixEnglish PeasSpinachChard Any Fall garden crop that isn't on that list is something we only get one harvest off. Those crops include Beets, Leeks, Garlic, Carrots, and many others. Speaking of carrots, we suggest planting all of those together since they take so long to mature. Another little top is to plant all of your Allium family plants together at once. They all have similar nutrients needs, and this will be the easiest way to feed and water. After you harvest them, you can then follow it up with a Legume or Daisy family crop. Show and Tell Segment As we are gearing up for our Fall garden, we want to make sure you have everything you need for yours too! So, the Seed Starting Kits are back in stock! One big question many of you have with the seed starting kits is, how long do I keep the domes on top of the kits? Our suggestion is to leave on the domes until all of the seeds germinate. Figs, Figs, Figs, we love eating them, and we got some exciting things coming for them! Be on the lookout in the next few months for an irrigation system, much like our drip tape for fruit trees! We are also working on an irrigation system for those gardeners that have everything in pots. This irrigation system will cut down significantly on your watering time. In order to keep all our items in stock and have the ability to keep adding new products, Hoss Tools needs to expand! We are currently building a new warehouse, quadruple our size! Making these expansions will give us space and tools we need to help you grow your own food! Product of the Week Deluxe Seed Starting Kit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T50uFUEBkes&t=36s

For Episode 36 I spoke with Josh Hensley, the lead singer of the band The Rutabega! The Rutabega is from South Bend, Indiana, and makes music that is cerebral, beautiful, and incredibly honest. Josh talked about his surprisingly perfect childhood, the experience of having his best friend and bandmate struggle with social anxiety and depression until he just completely withdrew from life, and about becoming a father at 19 years old! You can check out the Rutabega's music here: https://theseknottylines.bandcamp.com/ I also talked about how much I absolutely love the band Fishbug, which is a very young band from Athens. God, they're incredible. You can hear their one and only released track here: https://wildrumpusmix.bandcamp.com/track/slidey-fishbug

The Rutabega is a two-piece pop-infused rock band consisting of Joshua Wayne Hensley and Garth Mason. Based in South Bend, Indiana, the Rutabega began some 15 years ago, as a solo outlet for Hensley’s fragile yet strong songwriting. In 2011, he connected with Mason, a multi-instrumentalist and sound engineer, who has bolstered the Rutabega to […]

Legends of S.H.I.E.L.D.: An Unofficial Marvel Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Fan Podcast
The @LegendsOfShield (Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) Agents Stargate Pioneer and Lauren have fun with the 2005 Marvel Comic based movie Elektra! This week’s podcast hosts duo will also run down the week in Marvel news, and review down all the awesome Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D. feedback. First 13 Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D. podcasts [1:57] Now available again exclusively on the ww.LegendsOfShield.com website for download or streaming. Elektra [2:26] Lauren and Stargate Pioneer don;t cringe as much as they thought they would and actually took this week's Elektra watch to just enjoy an entertaining film. That's right, it is not a bad as Lauren remembers or that Stargate Pioneer thought he was going to think Elektra was. They still have issues with the film, but it is a great Saturday afternoon in the background movie to have playing. It's a good popcorn film that just didn't live up to it's potential. Among the many issue with the film was that Lauren doesn’t get the Jennifer Garner hawtness. She's never really been Stargate Pioneer's favorite either, but he did recognize the hotness on the screen in front of him. However, Lauren did love Goran Visnjic because of ER. Both hosts loved the supporting cast including Hiro Conagonwa, Colin Cunningham, Jason Isaacs and Terrance Stamp. The two fawned over Colin from his apperances in Stargate SG-1 at Maj Davis and his more recent renegade role in Falling Skies. One of Staragte Pioneer's issues was the introduction narration. It was a big disconnect with the Ben Affleck Daredevil film that Jennifer Garner/Elektra started in. Lauren had an issue with Treasure and the mystiscm in the movie in general. Maybe because the two hosts have a spot of OCD themselves, they both took note of Elektra's OCD and wondered why it was in there to begin with. Lauren brought up that it was a connection with Abby which is as good of a reason as any but it really brought nothing forward in the film other than perhaps an intruder tip off for Elektra. Both hosts are in grave awe over Elektra's one handed pullups and it reminded StarPi of either Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2 or Stephen Amell's workout scene in Arrow. StarPi brings up in jest a shirtless Jennifer Garner scene and Lauren shocks him by telling him it might actually have been a possibility early on in the film creation for a Rated R cut. Neither hosts were very impressed with the colored gasses when someone died. They can only reference them as fart villains as seen this television season in Gotham and Flash. Both hosts noticed the nice compound bow but they are both disappointed that they only get to see it once n the movie. Lauren brings up that sai weapons are originally peasant defensive hidden weapon and not originally offensive weapons. So Elektra is WRONG. One of the best part of the movie was the CGI'ed tattoo animals. Great CGI. Bright colors. Pretty cool. In true prepper fashion StarPi is now hard at work digging an escape tunnel to the field behind the house. Cause every house should have one. It's been said before but ninjas have terrible costumes. Another great part of this movie was the action scenes. The action was great with stunt people, wire foo and bullet time. Don;t forget the throwing stars as climbing footholds. Being the dad of a kid superhero sucks. The only thing poor Goran has going for him is superpower puppy eyes and his ability to get Elektra. Which brings up a question: What exactly is the mourning period in comic book world? Lauren's definitive answer? 3 issues. Every body has a type. Elektra’s type is blind guys. Is Elektra good or bad? Who knows? But she does look good sporting the braid of justice. So it's no Agent May - Agent 33 fight, but the Abby – Elektra fight is good despite obvious stunt personnel. The two hosts think about what the ability to have mind to mind conference call in dreams would do for you at work. One word: weird. Elektra’s outfit looks gooood. It's not functional. It's not realistic. It's just good. And finally what's with with room of flying Casper sheets? EXTRAS: Lauren finished Dragon Age Inquisition. Lauren always wanted to live in a hole in the ground. While StarPi has indeed visited the Ingalls family dugout site in Walnut Grove, Minnesota. From the wonderful mind of Lauren she reaches in for a recommendation for: From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. In case of emergency Lauren's bug-out plan was always to live in a hole and then move into the Mall. Lauren brings up the crazy Steve Jackson card game: Ninja Burger. Lauren brings up her Star Wars nightmare with a butter dish with googly eyes. Everyone please be nice to Lauren until Star Wars VII comes out later this year.
