Was jetzt? Akzeptieren. ANALYSIEREN, was genau gefällt dir, die Stimme? An niwi Fremdsprache lehru.  Sogar as paar Frankuuu sparuuuuu !! What to listen for:“You're putting so much pressure on yourself, and that's impacting your dog.”Today, our hosts Robin Greubel, Stacy Barnett, and Crystal Wing chat about what they've been up to lately, including their recent experience at the Muscatatuck Open, a high-level canine detection seminar known for its complex scent theory drills and immersive training. They discuss how the seminar's intense setups—with full-body donor work, long-term odor problems, and unique hide placements—challenged both handlers and dogs in ways that left a lasting impact.Robin juggled certification tests and a 10-week-old Labrador while Crystal flew straight from early retirement into the dog training world's version of a dream tour! The Dames of Detection reflect on the Muscatatuck seminar: a high-level, all-inclusive training camp that delivered not just technically, but mentally and emotionally, as well.Muscatatuck was a series of complex challenges—from scent voids and convergence hides to managing large source odors. It was, as one student put it, transformational.Crystal, still raw from leaving her teaching career, shares how her pressure-sensitive dog Radish mirrored her inner state, teaching her the value of emotional regulation in handling. Ben Kweller's music first stole my heart back in the early oughts when he released his wonderful debut album Sha Sha, and I have been a huge admirer of his work ever since. I've also had the good fortune of his friendship for more than twenty years, so it was amazing to finally get together with him for the LSQ podcast. Episode 123 features a deep and poignant conversation with BK about his entire creative history, including his excellent latest album, Cover The Mirrors, which was written in the wake of the tragic death of his teenage son Dorian. In addition to sharing how that tremendous loss ended up inspiring him to reconnect with making music in the innocent way he'd done as a kid, he details what those early creative years were like for him — writing Beatles-inspired love songs on the piano as a little kid, starting his band Radish after hearing Nirvana, hustling to get Radish their first shows at Chauncey's Place, a local billiards hall in Greenville, Texas, eventually getting rides from his parents to Dallas to play shows there, recording Radish's demos and the ensuing bidding war to sign them, and more. I was also fascinated to hear about his family connection to legendary guitarist Nils Lofgren of the E Street Band and Neil Young's Crazy Horse (as well as being a brilliant artist in his own right), and how Lofgren provided key support at multiple points during Ben's early days. And then we get into his moves toward stepping out on his own as an artist, including how support from the Lemonheads' Evan Dando helped catalyze his solo career. Ben also reminisces about the heyday of the New York City indie scene he was part of in the oughts, and how allyship with bands like the Strokes and Moldy Peaches and Kings of Leon (although not from NYC, the Kings regular touring companions of Ben's and honorary NYC scenesters) created a vital support system. On more recent topics, Ben reveals that Radish's lost sophomore album, Discount Fireworks, which includes early versions of songs like “Wasted & Ready” and “Harriet's Got A Song,” will finally be coming out via his own label, The Noise Company. He also talks about the work he's been doing recently to collaborate with Jason Schwartzman (who is among the guests on Cover The Mirrors) to record new music for Schwartzman's long-dormant band Coconut Records.

Artist Friendly with Joel Madden

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Ben Kweller. From his early days with neo-grunge band Radish to an impressive solo career, Kweller has constantly been shaped by music — and laid his heart bare in his songwriting. That's never been truer on his latest album, Cover the Mirrors, a striking reckoning with grief after Kweller lost his 16-year-old son Dorian Zev Kweller in a car accident. In a conversation with Madden, Kweller opens up about his life in Texas, touring with Ed Sheeran, the tragic death of his teenage son, and how it influenced his new record, out this Friday (May 30). We address many of today's biggest pain points: loneliness, isolation in raising families, and lack of rootedness in a WFH world. There's a silver bullet for these problems, and it's living in proximity to people you love.Today's product aggregates latent demand for living near friends & family, identifies existing housing supply that is a good fit for groups, and greases the behavioral mechanics. It's been covered by Vox, Guardian, Axios, Bigger Pockets and Business Insider. The vision is to become the marketplace where all "proximate housing" is marketed, developed, financed, and sold. Phil is the CEO/founder of Live Near Friends, the social real estate platform that helps people live within walking distance of friends & family.Previously, he helped start Culdesac (a developer building walkable, car-free neighborhoods, $200m+ raised).Phil started a housing cluster called Radish where he lives near 19 friends and 5 of their kids spread across 10 homes.  He writes about this on Supernuclear, the #1 newsletter on living near friends (160K reach).Phil's mission is to create forms of housing which makes us happy, healthy, and connected. Randolph is new-ish to town, having moved here about a year and a half ago from San Francisco, where she helped her family run two Michelin-starred Californios. Her sister is married to its decorated chef, Val Cantu, and the whole Randolph clan (plus Cantu) started the restaurant in 2013. Since then, Californios has been granted many awards and accolades from various organizations (like Michelin), including for its wine program, which is under Randolph's direction. When her Texas-born-and-raised family first embarked upon opening a restaurant, the clan tasked Randolph with being its sommelier as well as the general manager. No idle hands in this crew. The only problem was that Randolph knew little about wine, though she knew she loved Mexican food after having lived there for years following homeschooling and graduating from Texas Tech. No problem. She's an autodidact, sharp as a whip, and incredibly ambitious. She picked up a copy of The Wine Bible, studying obsessively every second she wasn't working Californios' front-of-house. In 2015, just two years after opening, Michelin awarded Californios its first star. By 2017, the restaurant had the distinction of being the world's only two-star Michelin spot focused on Mexican cuisine. And Randolph's wine program, which started as a list with a dozen producers and had expanded to a cellar boasting hundreds of the world's finest vintages and rarest allocations in less than a decade, was awarded the Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator and the Best Wine Restaurants nod from Wine Enthusiast. In 2021, Randolph was awarded Michelin's first-ever Sommelier of the Year designation; she was just one of two somms to receive the nod. While she's still involved with Californios and the family from afar, her heart and body are very much in San Diego. She's growing Black Radish's wine program exponentially by regularly bringing top producers to town for special wine dinners and other events. And there's more good news. “I moved here for my lover boy!” Coco excitedly exclaims any time anyone gives her the chance. She didn't come here for food or wine, but for love, which to me signals she's planting deep roots. “It's true, we are fully staying here, building a life,” Randolph confirms. Expect to hear a lot more from Coco wherever anyone's pouring grape juice in town. In addition to trying some of Coco's wine selections, of which you can hear more about in the episode, we also talk about the news. Crack Shack is opening its fifth location in Pacific Beach; even more Korean Fried Chicken called Season Ave is arriving to Clairemont Mesa; Eleven Madison Park and Herb & Wood alum Sebastian Becerra is opening Peruvian spot Pepino in La Jolla to much fanfare; Gator by the Bay is in town once again beginning May 9, and Oddish Wine turns 1 on May 11.

It's hard to believe it's been so long since the last time the Geeks had Katie Cook on the show, so now it's time to rectify that! Shane, Murd and Ian discuss Katie's first physical edition of Nothing Special, as well as the online Webtoon version that started it all. We talk what it took to transition from one format to the other, how Webtoon initially approached her for the project, and learning how to do art digitally. We also delve into the fandom that comes with a webcomic, the joy that is Radish, some Gronk, flasks and bowling balls named Eula, avoiding children's band practice, the uniqueness of Hot Topic, some Super Show memories, and lots more! Your first name is very personal, but what if you don't like it? For some people, changing their name works out great but for others it may create more problems than it solves. And: at least three towns in the U.S. were christened with names formed by spelling a word backward. There's a name for such names: they're called ananyms. Plus, the Iowa town with a curious name: What Cheer. And: a brain game involving kangaroo words, had the radish, landed up vs. ended up, who struck John, English on a ball, whoop it up, affirming the Appalachian dialect, Sunday driver, and lots more.
