In this highly scientific and not at all petty episode of Past Tens, Dave and Milt throw down in the only arena that really matters anymore: pop culture debates. It's the Past Tens Riff-Off, where no sacred cow is safe, every cow is delicious, and every opinion is shouted like it's 1986 and you just lost your cassingles collection. The format? Timed debates. The stakes? Imaginary. The judgment? Left up to you, our dear listeners with way too much time on your hands. From Freddie Mercury vs. Mick Jagger (tight pants vs. tighter pants) to the eternal dilemma of whether a hot dog is a sandwich (it's not, calm down), Dave and Milt spar over music, movies, TV, theme park rides, game show hosts, and more. Along the way, you'll hear grunts, woos, awkward impersonations, and the occasional moment of clarity. Then you vote on our Facebook page to settle the debates because we're way too biased to be trusted. Timestamps for your convenience (or if you're hate-skimming): 00:00 – Welcome to Past Tens (you know the drill) 00:56 – Warning: Musical debates ahead 01:56 – The Riff-Off explained (kind of) 05:43 – Debate 1: Freddie Mercury vs. Mick Jagger (glam vs. strut) 11:26 – Debate 2: Pirates of the Caribbean vs. Space Mountain (eyeliner vs. nausea) 18:40 – Debate 3: Chrissie Hynde vs. Stevie Nicks (scowl vs. shawl) 24:20 – Debate 4: Top Gun ‘86 vs. Maverick ‘22 (volleyball vs. trauma) 29:52 – Debate 5: “Holiday Road” vs. “I'm Alright” (Lindsey Buckingham tries, Kenny Loggins is alright) 35:36 – Coin flips and shameless begging for votes 36:26 – Debate 6: Trebek vs. Sajak (intellect vs. wheel-spinning) 41:35 – Debate 7: “Woo” vs. “Uh!” (James Brown intensifies) 47:44 – Debate 8: Al Michaels vs. John Madden (miracle calls vs. turducken) 53:07 – Debate 9: “Come On Eileen” vs. “Turning Japanese” (one-hit wonderland) 58:45 – Final Debate: Is a hot dog a sandwich? (Yes, we're doing this.) 01:06:53 – Wrap-up and wild speculation about future episodes

Heading off on a long drive over the holiday period. Here’s a few simple tips tomanage fatigue one of the three big killers on our roads. The end of the workingday is certainly not the time to head off on that long drive. Statistics show you’refour times more likely to have a fatal fatigue crash between the hours of 10pmand dawn so don’t head off after a hard week at work – the highest number offatal crashes occur in the afternoon peak period on a Friday. Head off earlymorning after a good sleep and a hearty breakfast when your energy levels arehigh. Carry plenty of water. – as well as being well hydrated it also means moretoilet stops along the way. Good posture also lessens fatigue. As a guide, situpright - stretch out your left arm so that your palm touches the top of the wheel.Adjust the seat length accordingly and bring the back of the seat up to give yougood lumbar support. Driving long distances is also hard on the eyes – glare is amajor contributor to fatigue so pull the sun visor down to the horizon and cut outas much sky as possible. All simple stuff I know but it could well save your life.I’m David BerthonSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
I talk about this at this time each year but it’s just so important - holiday timeand you may be about to take long road trip with the family. Time to give a littlethought to fatigue as it’s one of the three major killers on our roads – fatiguerelated accidents now account for more deaths than those attributed to drinkdriving. We now generally work longer hours. As such, fatigue is far moreprevalent so it’s no coincidence that the highest number of fatal crashes occur inthe afternoon peak period on a Friday. The end of the working day is not the timeto head off on that long drive into the country. Statistics show you’re four timesmore likely to have a fatal fatigue crash between the hours of 10pm and dawn –leave the next morning after a good sleep and a hearty breakfast when yourenergy levels are high. Carry plenty of water. Share the driving – one hour on -one hour off and take 15-minute break every two hours. Long distance drivingwith the family is all about teamwork - never let your front seat passenger nod off.Keep the rear seat solely for the sleepers, A talkative front passenger is anotherset of eyes. 2024: A Year In Review
Your rogue squirrels of seasonal sagas are taking a look at this staple of the irreverent modern Christmas classics canon. You’ll learn all about the physical injuries that Chevy Chase received on the set, the emotional injuries that the two tweens portraying the Griswold siblings also received on the set, the reason we were cheated out of a Christie Brinkley cameo, and the mysterious absence of Lindsey Buckingham’s beloved “Holiday Road.” You’ll also discover how Chevy’s poor behavior directly lead to the creation of a little movie called Home Alone, and how the Christmas Vacation has surprising connections with American Beauty, It’s a Wonderful Life, Lethal Weapon and Betty Boop. Jordan opens up about his crush on Martin Scorsese’s TikTok star daughter, and Heigl shares his fascination with Randy Quaid, who is currently on the run from a band of murderous “star whackers” — present whereabouts unknown. Acts 28:11-16, 30-31 Paul finally makes it to Rome and settles into this place that was meant to be a stop on the road, but that became his destination. In the journeys we take, we often find that the end was not in the place where we stopped, but in the journey itself, much like a life of faith.
Acts 16:6-15 Paul and his companions can't go to Asia, no matter how hard they try. Nonetheless, their detour leads to the baptism of Lydia's whole household. We often find blessings in the detours we have to take unexpectedly.
Acts 15:12-35 Barnabas and Paul are sent out with authorization from the apostles to preach to the Gentiles. The journey is underway!

In this week's Flightless Bird, David Farrier looks at why Christmas is the OG holiday in America. He brings back Mike McHargue from the very first episode of Flightless Bird to talk about how religion and commerce mix. In 2021 Americans spent $800 billion on Christmas-related purchases and this year it looks to soar to new heights! Mike and David delve into the origins of Santa Claus, before David takes a trip to “Holiday Road,'' a giant Christmas display in Calabasas. Finally, David calls his mum/mom in New Zealand to discuss what it was like giving birth (to him) on Christmas Day.
