Watch on Philo! - Philo.tv/DTHThese parents are downstairs arguing about where the angel is that's supposed to go on top of the tree. Their young son, Liam, overhears them. He decides to write a letter to Santa. He comes downstairs and tells his parents about the letter and we get a lot of info - he's in the 6th grade so his dad is concerned he's still writing to Santa. They moved to this town 3 months ago but his parents are still surprised to find out he made a friend. For some reason, Liam lies and says Gibby has cancer. Needless to say, Liam is a bit awkard and we also find out that he has dyslexia. The next day at school, he is captivated by his crush Emma who even stands up for him when kids make fun of his dyslexia. After school, he goes to drop off his letter to santa but accidentally misspells "Santa" as "Satan". Next thing you know, Satan shows up in the middle of the night. Liam still believes he is Santa despite the fact that he doesn't look like Santa and he has devil horns. Satan figures out what happened and decides to play along and offers to grant Liam three wishes. Not sure what to wish for, Liam wishes that Emma would give him a chance. At school, he notices that Emma is really staring at him. Satan appears in a mini version and tells him to go shoot his shot. He invites her to the Post Malone concert and she is very excited. Liam tells Gibby about his encounter with "Santa". Gribby is like it has to be a mistake. So Liam confronts Santa and figures out he's Satan and tries to get out of the deal. Satan says that when he makes his final two wishes, which he guarentees Liam will make, then Liam's soul belongs to him. Liam gets home and is greeted by his parents and a child psychologist. His session is interrupted by Gibby and Satan, who take Liam to the concert. With a little help from Satan, Liam is called onto the stage by Post Malone who calls Liam his inspiration. He dances and brings Emma on stage. Afterwards, she kisses him on the cheek! Everything is going great except Gibby is starting to feel a little left out. Later at home,  Liam uses his second wish to fix Gibby's teeth and invites Gibby to join his date with Emma at the local Christmas carnival. His parents become incredibly concerned when they overhear the conversation about Satan. So they go and pick him up at the carnival and bring him to the good doctors clinic. Satan tries to make Liam use up his third wish by showing him images of Gibby and Emma apparently enjoying the carnival without him but he's not falling for it. His parents then see a video of Liam at the Post Malone concert and they realize that he wasn't lying to them afterall. Liam locks himself in his room and facetimes Gibby and yells at him for hanging out with Emma and tells him that he's the one who fixed his teeth. Liam then overhears his parents aguing about the death of his brother Spencer. Liam, fearing that his parents are going to call it quits, goes to the hotel that Satan is staying at and wishes that his parents would stay together and be happy. It immediately works and his parents have a real heart to heart. But now knowing that he's going to hell, Liam decides to give into bad. He's ruthlessly mean to everyone. Emma tells him he's being a jerk and he begins to feel bad.Meanwhile, in Hell, we find out that Satan is in fact not Satan, but just a low level demon, who has failed his trial to become a full demon: by granting two unselfish wishes, he has rendered the deal for Liam's soul invalid and is banished from hell forever. Satan visits Liam and tells him about the deal's cancellation, and Liam figures out that he is not the real Satan. Before leaving, Satan confesses how much he has come to like him and explains that the third wish was negated because Bill and Molly made up on their own, so he used the contents of Liam's original letter to fulfill a third and final wish. Now wanting to use his powers to help others, Satan takes the form of an angelic dove and flies away.

The world sees the devil as a red cartoon character with horns and a pitchfork encouraging people to do the wrong, but very appealing thing. The Bible describes a being far more sinister and destructive. We must know the enemy of our souls if we are to resist his plan to steal, kill, and destroy. *** Welcome to Women World Leaders podcast. I'm your host, Julie Harwick. Thank you for joining me today as we celebrate God's grace in our lives, in this ministry and around the world. Last month, in the flurry of new Christmas movies, one in particular caught my attention.  “Dear Santa,” starring Jack Black, featured a clever premise of a dyslexic middle schooler intending to send a letter to Santa, but mixing up the letters and instead sending his Christmas wish list to Satan.  While I can see the humor in mixing up the letters in the names of two polar opposite characters, that's where the humor ends for me.   Leave it to the Prince of Darkness to use the celebration of Jesus' birth as an occasion to sell the deception that he's a harmless, fun-loving prankster who can ensure you have a great life here and now…if not in the hereafter.  I didn't watch the movie, but I read about it enough to learn that Jack Black's character is only masquerading as Satan, and is instead a failed demon, trying to regain Lucifer's favor by getting the 6th grader to sell his soul in exchange for three granted wishes.  According to plot descriptions, the movie portrays Satan himself in an unfavorable light, but apparently Jack Black's demon is compassionate, funny, and a good guy at heart.  It's not hard to see where the inspiration for this movie came from – the father of lies himself. A Gallup poll from 2023 revealed that of five spiritual entities: God, angels, heaven, hell, and the devil, the fewest believed in Satan. Only 58% of those polled said they believe he actually exists. It's likely that when they were questioned, their minds conjured up the red, pitchfork-wielding, horned character usually seen at Halloween parties and on cans of deviled ham.  I can understand why people don't believe in that, and Satan has worked hard to associate that image with his name.  Who's afraid, or even concerned about a fantastical being who's half human and half goat with a spear-like tail and villainous facial hair? In that old trope of an angel sitting on one shoulder and a devil on the other, the devil is always the most appealing of the two.  Using shame or fear, the angel reminds us of what we should do, while the cute little devil on the other shoulder encourages us to indulge and have a good time. The Bible has a lot to say about Satan and paints a far different picture from the images most people are familiar with.  So, who is Satan and where did he come from?  From passages in Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14 we learn that he was a being created by God to be a perfect reflection of His glory. His original name was Lucifer, meaning one who brings light. Ezekiel refers to him as a guardian cherub and says he was blameless from the day he was created until unrighteousness was found in him.  Verse 17 of Ezekiel 28 explains, “Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor.”  Isaiah gives even more insight in chapter 14, saying, “ How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth. You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will make myself like the Most High.” Here is where sin began.  And as it has always been and always will be, it is rooted in pride…the desire to be God.  I think this occasion was also the root of the saying, “misery loves company.”  Once Satan realized his plan to be equal with God had failed and consequences would follow, he sought to bring others down with him.  Revelation makes reference to this event adding that Satan managed to take a third of the angels in heaven with him, condemned to become fallen angels or demons who would share his mission to deceive as many souls as possible into believing that they too could be God. Not satisfied with only demonic companions, he disguised himself as a serpent and persuaded Eve to become the first human victim of his diabolical plot. So, now that we know Lucifer became Satan because he wanted to be God, how does he compare to God? While God is self-existent, that's what the name Jehovah means, with no beginning and no end, Satan clearly had a beginning and will also have an end. Another of God's characteristics is that He is omniscient, or all-knowing.  Many people have mistakenly believed that Satan also has that ability, but he does not.  He is, however, an excellent student of human behavior and he's had thousands of years to perfect his ability to recognize and capitalize on their weaknesses and vulnerabilities. He's so skilled at it, he can seem as if he's reading our minds, but he can't.  God also has the power to be everywhere all at once, or omnipresent.  That's a hard concept to wrap our human minds around, but I'm very glad He has that ability. Satan, on the other hand, does not.  Because of his well-organized demonic forces, it can seem like he's active everywhere all at once, but he himself, does not have that ability.  God has given Satan tremendous latitude to operate with his demons on planet earth. Jesus Himself referred to Satan as the ruler of this world and Paul called him “the god of this age and the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience.” He is a supernatural being with supernatural powers, but he is still subject to God's authority.  The first chapter of Job makes this clear.  God has taken the opportunity to point out what a great guy Job is while Satan is within earshot.  Also known as the accuser, Satan loses no time in suggesting that Job only lives to please God because he's been given everything a man could want.  He insists that some suffering and loss would take him down and make him as unconcerned with the things of God as any other man.  God demonstrates His confidence in Job by allowing Satan to do whatever he likes to Job apart from taking his life.  The devil could only do what God allowed and had to remain within the limits He set. The rest of the book details all of the horrible ways Satan tried to get Job to curse God, but instead, his faith remained firm, and he came to a much deeper knowledge of his creator.  Satan's plan backfired and in the end, Job was rewarded with even more than he had in the first place. As we consider all the things Satan can and cannot do, we would be wise to examine how Jesus dealt with him.  It's interesting to note that once Jesus had publicly been acknowledged as the Son of God and was about to begin His earthly ministry, He went into the wilderness for 40 days to be tempted by Satan.  Scripture tells us that there is no temptation we face that Jesus has not already faced and overcome.  The account of His temptation in the wilderness serves as a template we can use in dealing with our greatest enemy.  Satan has a limited bag of tricks to work with, but he's quite adept at recognizing and taking advantage of our individual weaknesses.  Since Jesus was fasting during His forty days in the desert, Satan first thought to appeal to His hunger and entice Him to meet His own physical needs by using His divine power to turn stones into bread. When that failed to move Him, the devil appealed to His emotional needs to know that God loved Him and have His divinity confirmed in a visible way.  He suggested that Jesus throw Himself from a great height to the ground and test the scriptural promise that God would send angels to prevent Him from being hurt. In a last-ditch effort, Satan offered to give up his authority over all earthly realms and make Jesus ruler of the world if only He would bow down and worship him.  In every temptation, Jesus didn't debate or negotiate with Satan, He simply quoted the scripture that addressed the root of the temptation.  Ironically, Satan used scripture as well. Naturally, it was out of context and somewhat twisted to serve his purpose.  Because Jesus knew the scriptures thoroughly, He was able to see through Satan's deception and have the perfect response to every temptation. The devil's entire identity is rooted in deception.  In John 8, Jesus described him as “a murderer from the beginning who does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him.  When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” In modern-day vernacular, you might say, “you'll know he's lying if his lips are moving.”  If deception is Satan's primary weapon, then truth is our best defense and the account of Jesus' temptation in the wilderness shows us that the truth that will defend us comes only from the Word of God. Ephesians 6 describes the spiritual armor God has provided for us as believers.  We have a helmet of salvation, a breastplate of righteousness, a belt of truth, feet shod with the gospel of peace and a shield of faith.  These are all meant to protect us from Satan's attacks, but we have only one offensive weapon to drive him away because it's all we need: the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  And like any good soldier, we must have our swords ready at all times so we're always prepared for a fight.  We can't wait until we're under attack to go looking for our sword.  That means we need to be constantly in God's word, studying and memorizing so that the truths we need to defeat the devil will be at our disposal when we need them most.   If you don't feel you know God's word very well, a good place to start would be to look up verses that are relevant to your particular areas of struggle.  Do you find yourself questioning your salvation and whether or not God could really love you?  Meditate on and memorize John 10:28 which says, “I give them eternal life and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hands.”  Are you plagued by anxiety and negative thinking?   Philippians 4: 4-8 will remind you of the steps to overcome anxiety and thoughts you should be dwelling on.   When fear threatens to overwhelm you or you're being asked to do something you feel is beyond your capability remember how God enabled David to face a giant no professional soldier was willing to fight, with just a sling and a stone.  Everything you need to resist temptation and send Satan packing is in God's word. 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil.  He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”  Peter chose the lion metaphor for multiple reasons.  There are many big cats that prey on other wildlife, but no other is known for its' terrifying roar.  Lions rely on their roar to intimidate and panic their prey, making them more vulnerable. Satan also finds a way of making his voice loud and forceful in our minds, making us question every truth. Sometimes a lion's roar is only that.  Experts say running from a lion is the worst thing you can do.  Your chances are better to stand firm, face it and roar or shout back.  Lions also use the tactic of going after the weak, the young, those who are injured or have been separated from the safety of the herd.  Similarly, Satan delights in attacking immature believers, those who are going through painful trials and any who have separated themselves from the support and accountability of fellow believers.  A wounded lion is even more dangerous because his pain drives him to lash out and inflict as much or more pain on his victim.  Satan is a wounded lion who received a mortal injury when the stone was rolled away from the tomb that first Easter morning.  Jesus' triumph over death and sin sealed Satan's fate and marked the beginning of his end.  Colossians 2: 13-15 says, “When you were dead in your sins, God made you alive with Christ.  He forgave us all our sins, having canceled our legal indebtedness which condemned us. He has taken it away and nailed it to the cross.  Having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”  Imagine…the debt of sin that served as our death warrant has been pardoned and nailed to the cross for all to see.  Satan is a powerful adversary who should be taken seriously.  But the only real power he ever had over us was the power of sin which has been nullified by Christ's triumph over sin and death.  When we walk in that truth and brandish the sword of the Spirit which is God's word,  that roaring lion becomes nothing more than a frightened alley cat.   Thanks for listening to Women World Leaders podcast!  Join us each week as we explore together God's extravagant love and your courageous purpose.  Visit our website at www.womenworldleaders.com to submit a prayer request, register for an upcoming event, and support the ministry.  From His heart to yours, we are Women World Leaders .  All content is copyrighted by Women World Leaders and cannot be used without written consent.

I have one sister and she was born...   when I was 12 and another sister born when I was 15. so I really, when we got married, my husband's the youngest of five and I just really, really, really, really wanted to spend holidays with my siblings because they were so young when I got married. And so for the last 13 years, we have been with my parents and my family except for one year.   which was when my brother got married and we were with Jason's parents. And so super fun to be celebrating with his family today. I just hope you guys are with something, someone doing something fun, whether it's family or it's friends or it's by yourself, but that you are just taking this time to celebrate. I think holidays are especially beautiful. And in Christmas, I think Christmas is just a magical holiday in the sense that I feel like.   We give gifts to each other and we give of ourselves and also Christmas is like right before the end of the year and so you might be headed back to the practice to produce or you might be just completely done, but wherever you are today Merry Christmas, and I hope you have just fallen in love with two things number one is Being in the spirit of giving I think that that's something that's so important and parent mount for us that we are truly   giving. I think I've shared this on the podcast before, so some of you may have heard this. For those of you that are new, welcome. I went to a conference and our group's name was Live to Give. And I remember hearing the thing that the secret to living is giving. And so in this holiday season, I know it can feel bustly, I know it can feel crazy, but I think when we take a step back and we look at what is ultimately the season, it's the time where we all give gifts to people. give holiday parties and we give gifts to our team, we give gifts to each other.   Kiera Dent (02:15.23) We're looking for those perfect gifts, but the reality is, what is our gift that we're giving of ourselves day in and day out to our team and to our patients and to our communities and also to ourselves? And so maybe today you take some time to think about what is that gift? What is my gift that I bring to this world? And I know that that can feel awkward for some people, but I would really hope that I can encourage you to love yourself a little bit more. And what is something incredible that you bring to your team?   In some teams, what I have them do is I have everybody draw. Don't worry, they can write words if they desire. But I have them draw who they are and what they bring to the team. And then Brittany Stone, she took it a step further with a team where inside I have them draw. I remember one person drew a visionary. So it's an eye with a cast of a vision. Another person drew Gumby because they're very flexible. But whatever it is, you draw that. And then what we had our teams do is actually, Britt did this.   And she had people actually write what that person brings to the team outside of it. So for example, in a circle, you could put what you bring to the table. And then on the outside of the circle, your team tells you like what you bring to the table and how you benefit and like what your gift is to the team. And it's crazy because inside the circle, we often are so hard on ourselves and don't give ourselves credit of what we bring to the table. I understand that we're trying to be humble most of the time and not egotistical. But then when we have teams do this, how much they actually share of   what everybody's bringing to the table. And it's just such a lovely experience because people are able to see themselves in a different light. And I think that that's actually like, as you're reflecting today, you're spending time, you're opening presents, you're doing whatever. What is maybe the gift that you bring to this world or maybe the gift that you want to bring to this world next year? Maybe you want to bring more kindness. Maybe you want to bring more humility. Maybe you want to bring more patience. Maybe you want to bring more vision. Maybe you want to bring more fun.   Maybe you want to bring more energy. Maybe you want to bring more balance. Maybe you want to bring more gentleness. Maybe you want to bring more positivity. Whatever it is, what is your gift that you can bring to this world, to your team, to your family, to yourself? And then also, I would ask if you were writing a letter, Dear Santa, what would be something I would ask for three wishes? One, what is the wish that you would have for your team? Two, what is the wish that you would have for your practice?   Kiera Dent (04:37.494) and patience? And three, what is the wish that you want for yourself? I did this in our doctor think tank a little while ago. And it was so interesting. I asked him like, what do you want? What like what would you guys want? And the group was actually very quiet. And I realized we've forgotten to dream. We've forgotten how to ask for what we want. We've forgotten how to to be vocal about those things. And so maybe today, just look at that and see what would be my wish for my team.   And really like be intentional with this. What would be the wish for my practice? And then what's the wish that I have for myself? And then what I would think is how can you make those wishes come true? How can you bring and give gifts of yourself for your team? And that doesn't mean you have to do it. It means you can delegate. means you can use other people. But what would be some fun things for you? And maybe this year you want to give yourself the gift of health. So you're going to prioritize your health. Maybe you're going to give yourself the gift of a stronger relationship and you're going to   be done on every Thursday at five o'clock and go on a date with your spouse or your significant other. Maybe you're going to give yourself the gift of fun and you're going to plan one day a week or a month where it's just a fun day for you. Maybe you're going to give yourself the gift of a new hobby and you're going to go get into pickleball or something. But like really think about what would be a gift that you'd give yourself because I think that so often we're obsessed with giving to other people, which I agree with. And that's secret to life is giving.   but also let's not forget to give ourselves a gift as well. I think the greatest thing I did for myself in 2025 was giving myself the gift of health. I have been on a health journey. Some people look at me and you just might think, like we obviously have our super, like our preconceived notions. And I have had immense pain in my knee and my hip from years and years of traveling. I ran a marathon. I went from zero running in October to running a marathon in December. So I trained for about two and a half months.   I've had severe knee pain since then and then top like tackle that on with all the years of flying that I have of just being crunched up in seats. And I have had pretty severe knee and hip pain. And this year I just decided like, I want to be 99 years old and still active in spry and I'm hoping that my last six months of my life are going to be the ones where I phase out and maybe that's when my health deteriorates. But if that's what I want my vision to be, thank you to the book of die with zero, it gave me that perspective.   Kiera Dent (07:01.456) but I've thought about that so many times of, if that's what I want to do, what do I need to do today to be able to have that vision? And maybe when you're thinking about the gift, you want to give yourself paint the vision of who you are at 99 years old. And what does that life look like? Maybe that will also help you figure out what to give your team, what to give your practice and what to give yourself. Because this year in 2024, I committed and I hired a personal trainer and we went to the gym and it sounds so silly, but for me to be able to squat and not have knee pain.   which I have not been able to do squats, any type of lunges, squats, nothing for seven years. Like literally my quads, my hams, my calves were all atrophying. To be able to this year, me, my coaches, my PT, I have an incredible group of people around me. We were all celebrating at the fact that I can do a squat with no knee pain. And that has been seven years in the making. It was an added benefit because I was able to wake surf a lot better this summer too.   But just to feel strong and to feel like I'm taking care of my body so I can be this 99 year old woman who's not frail and feeble but is strong and has strong muscles. I have to do things daily now to be able to do that. I worked on my macros. I worked on protein intake. I worked on eating healthier. I worked on figuring out what the meals were. That was freaking hard and I hated every second of it. But to see how much healthier I am today versus where I was a year ago.   is a gift that I could never get back. I can't go back in time and live my life differently, but I can move forward and we can give ourselves those gifts now. So maybe even today, think about who do you want to be when you're 99 years old? Going into that hundred, I hope I live to like, I don't know, 103 sounds like a fun time. I love the number three, but just thinking about that, what can you do today? What are the gifts that we could give to other people? What are the gifts that we can give of ourselves? What are the gifts that we could give to ourselves?   as we're spending this time, I really love on Christmas to reflect, reflect on the things that have been amazing, reflect on my amazing, just life that I have to be in this season. It's crazy, but to just see the love that's around me, to see the incredible people around me, to see the family, the friends. And I know sometimes this time of year can be hard. I used to actually hate Christmas. My brother came home and I hated Christmas. I literally would not listen to anything Christmas.   Kiera Dent (09:24.626) went into it and I would just not participate in anything and my heart was so sad and I just felt cold. I felt closed off and what changed for me was I actually worked for a company called the United Way and we did sub for Santa and I remember seeing the spirit of Christmas come to fruition. I remember seeing so many people give of themselves to make magic happen for other people and I realized   That's what society is. That's what our communities are. We need to be more united rather than divided. We need to see how we can give hand ups, not hand outs. We need to see how we can just love people on a deeper level. And it was such like my heart went from ice cold to soft as putty the year that I was, I called myself Mrs. Claus. And I remember just seeing the magic of humanity. And so how can we within our practices, within our teams, within our communities,   give that magic of humanity to more people, give that spirit of love and service and gratitude because we don't realize our ripple effect. One person was able to serve so many different families and then those families were able to go on and perpetually serve other people. And I just think that the world needs more kindness and more care, that we need to give more kindness and more care to ourselves, that we need to see the beauty around us rather than all the negativity around us, that we can choose.   what pair of sunglasses, AKA filtered we put on to view this life. And I would hope that one, you'd give yourself a gift this year of something that's gonna help you when you're 99 or 100 to have the best life today for those future years. I would also ask you to give a gift to your team of this next year. What are you gonna give your team? And then are you gonna give your practice and your patients? And then also let's look to see how can we have more kindness, more love, more generosity as we go into 2025. You guys, this is such a magical time of year. feels like.   the magical clock, like Father Christmas or whatever it is, the magical clock of 2024 is ticking down. And how can we maximize and optimize these magical moments through the rest of the year? But also how can we prepare to invite and embrace this incredible 2025 that's about to be upon us? How can we learn from our 2024? For some offices, I know this was your hardest year. For Dental A Team it was truly my hardest year. It was the year that I grew the most.   Kiera Dent (11:44.164) It was the year that I was refined personally and professionally the most. was the year my team grew the most and not by size, but by grit and stamina and determination. so for you, what are the lessons we've learned from 2024? How can we like soak in these magical moments as we roll into 2025? And then how can we maximize and optimize 2025? If I can be a part of that journey with you, I'd love to be there. I'd love to celebrate you and I'd love to give you even more opportunities than you could have ever imagined.   But really, I just hope that today you relish in the joy of your life, of you being here, and then give yourself a magical gift. And let me know if you want to email me. I'd love to hear it as always. Hello@TheDentalATeam.com. But I hope you enjoy the time with your families. I hope you enjoy this magical season. I hope you remember that the secret to living is giving, and that's giving to others and giving ourselves the most incredible life we can because the ripple effect is magnificent. Like, it's just, it's so magnificent.   of what we as one person can do for this world. And I just challenge you to really, really maximize and optimize that this year. And as always, thanks for listening. I'll catch you next time. Merry Christmas. I'll catch you next time on the Dental A Team Podcast.

Michael Oldroyd - Comedy Podcast

"Mike dives into a festive blend of heartwarming updates, comedy highlights, and personal reflections. As we celebrate the season of Christmas and Hanukkah, he touches on some uplifting world news, including the hopeful 90% progress toward a peace treaty between Israel and Palestine, as well as changes in Syrian leadership that could have significant implications for the region. Avoiding heavier topics too much, he focuses on positivity, including trending holiday movies like Gladiator 2: Bonhoeffer and Moana 2, along with Netflix's romantic comedy, Hot Frosty and other seasonal favorites like Nut Crackers and Dear Santa. On the comedy front, we talk about viral laughs, including a German Shepherd's hilarious reaction to a green bean and the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, showcasing adorable and funny animal moments. He also reflects on some of his own comedy milestones. The episode takes a heartfelt turn as he shares stories from the recent trolley shows, where 90-minute tours of twinkling lights and sold-out crowds created lasting memories. He recounts meeting unique and unforgettable characters, from the “Cindy Lou's” and Chico (aka Jose) to a stranger who called him an angel after leaving a hefty tip. These interactions, coupled with moments of joy and gratitude, hopefully remind us of the connections that make this time of year so special. Finally, he closes with a reflection on the universal goodness of angels, Bruce Wayne, Santa, and Jesus, transcending beliefs and offering a prayer for the world. This episode is a warm, reflective, and funny celebration of the season, filled with moments to make you laugh, think, and feel inspired." - Chat GPT

Bah Humbug: A Christmas Movie Podcast with Helen O'Hara

It's a movie based on the old joke, about a dyslexic who sold his soul to Santa. This time, however, it's a kid (Robert Timothy Smith) who writes his letter to Santa with a crucial piece of misspelling, so that the devilish Jack Black turns up that night offering him three wishes in return for his soul. But is it worth eternal damnation to watch this one? Well, to find out, your host Helen O'Hara (@HelenLOHara) sits down with author and comedian Marc Burrows (@20thCenturyMarc) to talk demons, wishes and what exactly this film could have done better.  If you want to read or hear more from Helen, you can order her book "Women Vs Hollywood: The Fall and Rise of Women in Film" which is out now in The UK . Founded in 1856, this town serves as one of the main destinations for "Dear Santa" letters from all over the world. And this happened, in many ways, because one family took the reins (no reindeer jokes ... yet). Meet 92-year-old Mrs. Koch (pronounced "Cook"). She holds many titles – including Santa's daughter, Chief Elf, and founder of the Santa Claus Museum – preserving the stories of the past that she now shares with us, including: How Santa Claus, IN got its name How a WW1 veteran became Santa's best helper How the team receives and responds to tens of thousands of letters mailed from around the world. A perfect news break for anyone who needs a little Christmas spirit – or has some to spare! We hope this interview leaves you with one thought this season ... "Believe!" --- Thank you for supporting SmartHER News! You keep us ad-free and independent. Please consider joining our insider service SCOOP or grabbing some gear in our SmartHER shop.

Today, we're discussing the Supreme Court hearing in the U.S. v. Skrmetti case over Tennessee SB1 restricting puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgery for minors for reasons attributed to gender "transition." We give you all the information you need about the bill itself and yesterday's oral arguments before the Court. Justice Sotomayor hilariously compared prescribing children puberty blockers to simply taking aspirin, while Justice Alito thankfully pushed back against the arguments from the ACLU's "transgender" lawyer. Also, as we head into the Christmas season, a new holiday film titled "Dear Santa" is coming to a theater near you starring Jack Black as ... Satan? It's a shorter Empire Podcast this week, folks (blame Hollywood for shutting down for Thanksgiving, which is just plain selfish), but that doesn't mean it's any less jampacked with guests, greatness, and guesty greatness than usual. First, Chris Hewitt sits down with Auli'i Cravalho, Moana herself, to talk about returning for this week's Moana 2 and the art of not talking to people on planes. [16:03 - 29:35 approx] And then Ian Freer has an audience with... well, if not the Pope, then the next best thing in the guise of legendary trio Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, and Isabella Rossellini, the stars of new papal election thriller, Conclave. [46:49 - 1:04:52 approx] Either side of those, with Chris incapacitated by a last-minute case of neck-knack, Helen O'Hara hosts and is joined by James Dyer and Amon Warmann for a fun episode in which they discuss what they're thankful for this year, run their eye over what passes for movie news, and review Conclave, Moana 2, and Dear Santa. Oh, and Helen tries desperately not to do a Mount Rushmore question. Will she succeed? Find out by listening. Enjoy!
