Earth is under threat from the Prior Plague in The Fourth Horseman, Part 1.    In addition, the storyline with Gerak pushing so hard for the Jaffa to officially follow Origin is quite interesting. As is pointed out several times, you can't legislate religious belief. It will be interesting to see how this fully plays out (cos we don't remember exactly).   Rachael also has an interesting take on Orlin's appearance in this episode. Eric and Tegan watch Stargate SG-1 Season 6 episode 7 "Shadow Play." Silvana will be back hosting soon but in the mean time SG-1 returns to Langara to negotiate about military tech with Jonas' people, the Kelownans. The SG-C wants Naquadria but the negotiations clearly aren't going anywhere.  The SG-C is starting to look like the Tollans in this episode, not wanting to share technology with a less technologically advanced society. SG1 finds a strange man in a stasis chamber this week in Prototype. And what do they do with this strange man? Bring him back to the SGC, of course!   Daniel being the one to suggest not keeping Khalek alive is very interesting. Because if he's saying that, it should be a clue as to how dangerous Khalek truly is. But why does Khalek know who Daniel is? He shouldn't, since Anubis used his DNA (and therefore the genetic memory) from before he ascended.   What exactly are the rules of ascension? Every time it gets brought up, they seem to change. John's turning into a wraith! Can the team find a cure in time before the Conversion is complete? We really like how they've written John in this episode (and his make-up). His checking that Teyla was okay after their kiss was an excellent decision. Though, we do have some concerns over them not addressing what would happen if they weren't able to save John and the fact that so much time and personnel are spent saving one man. Important as he may be. Caldwell continues to be one of the most interesting characters because you're never quite sure what his motivations for his actions are.  The complete lack of any kind of plan when the team goes off on their first egg harvesting mission is a little concerning. Even if they don't know what they're going to find, shouldn't that mean they overprepare for every possible scenario? We're told they're these amazing warriors that have inspired Jaffa all throughout the galaxy, but why? SG1 learns that Ba'al has been hiding on Earth since his defeat at the battle of Dakara in Ex Deus Machina. We like that the goa'uld are still a thing in this new Ori era of storytelling.    We now have the new Stargate sitcom spinoff: Sugar Ba'als. Coming to SyFy next summer!   As much as Ba'al can't be trusted to hold up his end of the promise he makes to live on Earth in peace, it would have been interesting to explore that. Just, every now and then we check in with Ba'al on a beach in Mexico, chilling with his sugar mamas.   We do want to know what human name Ba'al is using and we don't remember if it's something that is actually revealed. For now, we shall call him Simon Cliff.   It is kind of fun that this episode actually has a Deus ex Machina in it. But he is exactly what Vala expected and nobody else would listen to her. What starts as a fun romp with Vala visiting an old planet she had ruled over as a goa'uld turns deadly serious as a Prior of the Ori returns in The Powers That Be.   This episode starts bringing up an interesting point - can you talk someone out of faith/religious belief through logic and reason? Because, when you get down to it, those two things are diametrically opposed. Faith exists without logic and reason. It just is. So, when the being asking for religious devotion is evil, how do you counteract that?   We finally get definitive information as to what exactly is going on with Dr. Lam and General Landry. We finally meet the new big bad for Stargate in Origin. But just how evil are the Ori? Is it the religion or the men we need to be concerned with? What exactly is their relationship to the Ancients we already know?   TPTB have gotten some amazing guest stars already with Louis Gossett, Jr. as Gerak! He will be an interesting character to get to know over the season.   Was it really such a good idea for Mitchell to just bring that Prior back through the gate to the SGC? They know nothing about him or what he wants. Maybe not the best decision.   There is some confusion over how the communication stones work given what we see happen after Daniel and Vala connect the second set of stones in the Ori galaxy. Who exactly woke up in the SGC infirmary? Was it Daniel and Vala or Harrid and Sallis?   Overall, this is a very interesting beginning to a new chapter in the Stargate saga. We'll see how well they meet their own brief of commenting on the men and not the religion itself.   We end with an interesting discussion of what we would like to see in whatever new Stargate series might be coming our way. Or just say she was sick and wasn't going to make it. We've reached the end of Season 1 of Atlantis with one hell of a cliffhanger in The Siege Part 2.    This episode is a really good example of what we felt was missing from some of the final episodes of SG1 season 8. The end of season 8 arrives with Moebius, Part 2. And it's a good one.   We are so happy to see Kawalsky back and he looks very happy to be there. We do wish the script had been a little more explicit as to what exactly is happening on this mission that they only refer to as “the mission.”   Christopher Judge's performance as the alternate Teal'c is really amazing. He's usually so stoic so to get to see all these emotions play out on his face is really nice.   Our one complaint is still about the Jack/Sam stuff. There's just no build-up to the moment of them getting together. It's just Jack calls her hot out of nowhere and that's it. Where was the flirting? Where were the side-long glances at each other? The SG1 season 8 finale starts with Moebius, Part 1. Rachael LOVED this episode. As did Kerri. But this is overall a very good episode.    How exactly do deliveries to a facility like Cheyenne Mountain work? Wouldn't some kind of National Security thing prevent things like that?   Why do SG1 just decide the only option is for them to stay in the past forever rather than waiting for a time when the jumper is unguarded or put somewhere they can sneak into and get it back?   Amanda Tapping is a comedy genius in the alternate future timeline. The little changes she makes to her physicality and expressions are so fantastic. We love her. We've reached the culmination of almost 8 years of storytelling with Reckoning, Part 2 and yet there are still three more episodes left in the season!    It's still weird that nobody mentions anything about Daniel until the very end of the episode.   We're always amused at how easy it is for Earth technology to interface with Ancient technology. And also that there's always an interface at the ready to decipher/translate whatever data is being read.   Ba'al is just amazing in this episode. He's so smarmy and smug and we love it. We do like this episode but some plot points are just a little too glossed over for our liking.   What is the context with people needing to be dying before they can ascend? Death has nothing to do with Ascension, right? It's just about knowledge and enlightenment. Has that changed since the Ancients first did it? Kinsey is back but not quite himself this week in Full Alert.    While the plot of this episode is rather interesting and we're glad they've wrapped things up with The Trust, there are a few dangling threads we would like addressed: What actually happened to Kinsey? Are there any more goa'uld still hiding on Earth?   The reveal of Kiselev being a goa'uld, while cool, is kind of anticlimactic. As is the ending. Jack's note wasn't spefic enough and they meet the Aschen through a people who are seemingly being helped by the Aschen, the Volians.  The Aschen make earth an offer for technology that is hard for anyone to refuse. So in the second episode in a row, earth is given an offer that seems too good to be true. And SPOILER ALERT...it is too good to be true! The Senator-Who-Won't-Be-Named is back and is putting his ego on full display. Jack is having none of it.  Everyone has a part to play in this episode, even Walter and Hammond are teaming up to figure out of the Aschen are from the off-limits planet. The Trust goes to war with the goa'uld (and Jaffa) this week in Endgame. The opening scene of this episode is one of the best in a long time. It's just fun and really feels like the random conversations people working together would have.   The one weird thing with this episode, though, is Daniel doing the various interrogations. The first especially reads like it was originally written for Jack. There's discussion about how far you have to move a gate before its address no longer works. Also, how does ventilation work inside the goa'uld pyramid buildings?   We end with a brief discussion about how we're feeling with season 8 so far with the extremely reduced Jack time and how SG1 is operating as an exclusively 3 person team. Teal'c faces two problems this week on Sacrifices - the Hak'tyl are under attack and his son is getting married!  At this point in the life of the SGC, why do they not have a designated off-world base specifically for refugees? It really doesn't make sense to keep bringing people to Earth all the time. It is interesting to see the change in heart the SGC has had concerning the killing of the goa'uld from how they faced things at the start of the series. WHAT IS THE RITE OF ORNOC???
