Great Ba'als of fire!! The SGC is overrun with Ba'als (and we're overrun with puns, sorry) as SG1 gather up all the clones in exchange for information on how to find Merlin's weapon. Of course, things don't go as expected. It's Insiders. We really like that little conversation Mitchell has with Landry about how much control he doesn't have over SG1. He's just gotta hope everyone is in line with the goals and will follow the plan. We do have some issues with Ba'al's plan. It just seems overly complicated for what the goal ended up being. Surely, he could have just brainwashed someone to get him the list of planets. Sam makes one of the dumbest mistakes ever by handing over the planet information to the Ba'als. There is no way anyone on base is more important than that data. Still, we enjoyed this episode. It's never a bad idea to have more Cliff Simon. Silvana, Eric and Tegan watch Stargate SG1: Season 6 Episode 19 "The Changeling." This is the second episode written by Christopher Judge and the hosts enjoyed it much more than the first episode he wrote ("The Warrior"). This episode is really a firefighting ad for a bit of the episode as Teal'c is living an alternate life in a dream state as a fireman. Teal's is switching between 2 dream lives, one of being a firefighter waiting to donate his kidney to his stepfather and one where he is a member of SG1, but the truth is much darker. The hosts have a few ideas for what have been a better dream-world than Teal'c being a firefighter but overall really liked the episode. The hosts also wonder, was this ascended Daniel in Teal'c dream-world all along? Stargate fans may never know! Dr. Jackson finally makes it to Atlantis this week in The Pegasus Project. There's A LOT that happens in this episode, and it actually ends on a very big win for both SG1 and Atlantis.  We really like seeing all the interactions between the SG1 characters and the Atlantis. Everyone is really well written and we can't wait for more crossovers. Does the SGC have a stockpile of gates lying around or did they have to go out and get them from somewhere? The reveal that the hologram in this episode is actually an ascended Ancient is so well done. We remember not seeing that coming the first time we watched it. It really is time for the Ancients to get off their asses, though. They're next up on the Ori hit list. They gotta do something. Sleep becomes a dangerous thing while SG1 are off searching for Merlin's weapon in Morpheus. Back at the SGC, Landry has to decide if Vala can become a member of the SGC given her past. We actually really like these two storylines being in the same episode. The silliness and weirdness of Vala's escapades really help balance out the seriousness of what's happening off-world with SG1. We do wish they had gone into some more detail or at least speculation about how the parasite can travel from person to person, because we can't quite figure out how that happened. Also, how long does it take from infection to death? What exactly happened to Reimer? Was his heart attack the result of the parasite, or was it just a heart attack from all the caffeine and lack of sleep that affected him? The insight we get into Vala in this episode through all the testing really is wonderful to see. We can't wait to see how she grows from here. We've made it to SG1 season 10 and it's time to see what the Ori's plans are with Flesh and Blood. Now, in general we don't remember a lot about season 10 so this is going to be a fun "rewatch" for us.  Did everyone make it out alive after the explosive season 9 finale? Where are the ori going? What's with Vala's daughter? Seeing the flashbacks of how everyone survived was really great but also not so much because everyone else is dead. One of the coolest things, though, is Sam's rescue by Mitchell and Kvasir as they scoop her up with the Odyssey docking bay. So awesome! We do like this as a season premiere and a sort of reset of the status quo back to how things were with the goa'uld. And now we actually have a singular Bad Guy to focus on now. Stargates are being taken from all over the galaxy in an episode that should have been called Dude, Where's My Gate? But first, SG1 have to deal with highly addictive corn in Off the Grid. As many times as we've discussed the fashion of the goa'uld, does the SGC have a seamstress on staff? Where do they get the undercover outfits they wear when the need arises? Is the deal with the Kassa just that it's super tasty? Does it affect people in any other way? It seems like it doesn't. Which is kind of weird. Also, does it really start to rot after only 2 days? We really like how Beau Bridges and Maury Chaykin play against each other. Ripple Effect brings back some dearly departed characters, but there are also shenanigans afoot. And we did not see that twist coming. Once we find out that the whole universe jumping was planned, we're not sure it makes sense. It just seems to ask more questions than it answers. We love this episode. It's a lot of fun, but there were some missed opportunities. Who would you have brought back on an SG1 team just for a little cameo? Why wasn't the cast of Wormhole X-Treme one of the alternate SG1s?  We did take a little issue with Landry refusing to allow time to find a solution to get all the stranded teams home. His SGC isn't under any immediate threat like some of the other worlds are. He couldn't give them 24 hours? Finally, buckle up folks, cos Wagner has chimed in on time dilation and the issues with Epiphany. Will Earth survive the Prior Plague? Will the Jaffa give in to Gerak and become slaves to the Ori? Find out as we discuss The Fourth Horseman, Part 2. Luckily, we didn't have to wait three months this time. Why are the Sodan not surprised to see Mitchell, considering they all think he's dead? Why is no one talking about that? And why do they only have one plan for getting blood from the Prior? It seems silly that all the world leaders from the International Committee show up in person at the SGC, which is Ground Zero for the current global pandemic.  Why was Orlin not coming in to tell people the truth about the Ori not a part of the plan from the beginning? SG1 seems to be back to their old tricks of trying to convince people they've just met that they're the ones who know the truth. Although, Teal'c does finally make some good points to Gerak where he starts asking questions to try and get Gerak to really think about what the Priors/Ori have told him. Can non-corporeal beings travel between galaxies without ships? Have the Ancients and Ori really been completely isolated from each other all this time? Earth is under threat from the Prior Plague in The Fourth Horseman, Part 1.    In addition, the storyline with Gerak pushing so hard for the Jaffa to officially follow Origin is quite interesting. As is pointed out several times, you can't legislate religious belief. It will be interesting to see how this fully plays out (cos we don't remember exactly).   Rachael also has an interesting take on Orlin's appearance in this episode. Eric and Tegan watch Stargate SG-1 Season 6 episode 7 "Shadow Play." Silvana will be back hosting soon but in the mean time SG-1 returns to Langara to negotiate about military tech with Jonas' people, the Kelownans. The SG-C wants Naquadria but the negotiations clearly aren't going anywhere.  The SG-C is starting to look like the Tollans in this episode, not wanting to share technology with a less technologically advanced society. SG1 finds a strange man in a stasis chamber this week in Prototype. And what do they do with this strange man? Bring him back to the SGC, of course!   Daniel being the one to suggest not keeping Khalek alive is very interesting. Because if he's saying that, it should be a clue as to how dangerous Khalek truly is. But why does Khalek know who Daniel is? He shouldn't, since Anubis used his DNA (and therefore the genetic memory) from before he ascended.   What exactly are the rules of ascension? Every time it gets brought up, they seem to change. John's turning into a wraith! Can the team find a cure in time before the Conversion is complete? We really like how they've written John in this episode (and his make-up). His checking that Teyla was okay after their kiss was an excellent decision. Though, we do have some concerns over them not addressing what would happen if they weren't able to save John and the fact that so much time and personnel are spent saving one man. Important as he may be. Caldwell continues to be one of the most interesting characters because you're never quite sure what his motivations for his actions are.  The complete lack of any kind of plan when the team goes off on their first egg harvesting mission is a little concerning. Even if they don't know what they're going to find, shouldn't that mean they overprepare for every possible scenario? We're told they're these amazing warriors that have inspired Jaffa all throughout the galaxy, but why? SG1 learns that Ba'al has been hiding on Earth since his defeat at the battle of Dakara in Ex Deus Machina. We like that the goa'uld are still a thing in this new Ori era of storytelling.    We now have the new Stargate sitcom spinoff: Sugar Ba'als. Coming to SyFy next summer!   As much as Ba'al can't be trusted to hold up his end of the promise he makes to live on Earth in peace, it would have been interesting to explore that. Just, every now and then we check in with Ba'al on a beach in Mexico, chilling with his sugar mamas.   We do want to know what human name Ba'al is using and we don't remember if it's something that is actually revealed. For now, we shall call him Simon Cliff.   It is kind of fun that this episode actually has a Deus ex Machina in it. Vala makes a heroic sacrifice to try and save the galaxy from an Ori incursion this week in Beachhead.    We finally meet the goa'uld hacker! And he is not what we expected. But he is exactly what Vala expected and nobody else would listen to her. What starts as a fun romp with Vala visiting an old planet she had ruled over as a goa'uld turns deadly serious as a Prior of the Ori returns in The Powers That Be.   This episode starts bringing up an interesting point - can you talk someone out of faith/religious belief through logic and reason? Because, when you get down to it, those two things are diametrically opposed. Faith exists without logic and reason. It just is. So, when the being asking for religious devotion is evil, how do you counteract that?   We finally get definitive information as to what exactly is going on with Dr. Lam and General Landry. We finally meet the new big bad for Stargate in Origin. But just how evil are the Ori? Is it the religion or the men we need to be concerned with? What exactly is their relationship to the Ancients we already know?   TPTB have gotten some amazing guest stars already with Louis Gossett, Jr. as Gerak! He will be an interesting character to get to know over the season.   Was it really such a good idea for Mitchell to just bring that Prior back through the gate to the SGC? They know nothing about him or what he wants. Maybe not the best decision.   There is some confusion over how the communication stones work given what we see happen after Daniel and Vala connect the second set of stones in the Ori galaxy. Who exactly woke up in the SGC infirmary? Was it Daniel and Vala or Harrid and Sallis?   Overall, this is a very interesting beginning to a new chapter in the Stargate saga. We'll see how well they meet their own brief of commenting on the men and not the religion itself.   We end with an interesting discussion of what we would like to see in whatever new Stargate series might be coming our way. We've reached the end of Season 1 of Atlantis with one hell of a cliffhanger in The Siege Part 2.    This episode is a really good example of what we felt was missing from some of the final episodes of SG1 season 8.
