Silvana and Tegan watch the season finale for Season 5. Thor is presumed dead and SG-1 is asked to help with saving another Asgaard, a scientist, from the clutches of Osiris and Anubis. Join the conversation on our socials.
Silvana and Tegan are joined by frequent guest Eric for Season 5, Episode 21, “Meridian”. This is it, folks, when Daniel dies for a whole season or so. There are speculations between Eric and Tegan about Grey's Anatomy and ascension, some musical performances, and a great deal of discussion about rumors as to why Michael Shanks left the show. What do we all think of Diet Daniel Jackson? Find out! Join the discussion on our socials.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 20, “Sentinel”, which is about the Latonans and how they have a regressive technological culture. Silvana talks about some of the other types of technology that have been ‘forgotten' in history. While Tegan finds this episode boring, Silvana finds some redemption. That does not get the writers off the hook for the massive plot hole they left in though. Join the discussion on our socials!
With the Season 2 Finale today, we know there is a need for support. Lumon cares; so it is providing you outies with this free wellness session. Please enjoy each fact equally. Join the discussion on our socials.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 19 "Menace". They talk about how this episode is a great example of the Born Sexy Yesterday trope. Tegan shares facts about why Christopher Judge wasn't in this episode as much and how Lexa Doig factored into this episode. Check out Pop Culture Detective's video on "Born Sexy Yesterday." Check out our episode on the topic as well. Join the conversation on our socials.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 18 "The Warrior". This episode was written by Christopher Judge. We finally have a Free Jaffa movement; why has it taken so long for us to get to this storyline? We recognize the actor who guest stars from our Magicians watch. Join the discussion by joining us on our socials. For more about protests in the United States (and for our international allies too), check out 50501 at https://www.fiftyfifty.one/
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 17 “Fail Safe”. SG-1 and America has to destroy an asteroid on a collision impact with Earth. This one has some great plot twists and a lot of emphasis on American ingenuity. Join the conversation on our socials.
Silvana and Tegan are joined by two very special guests: their Dads! Andrew and Brad watch two episodes of Red Dwarf with Silvana and Tegan and they discuss their favorite moments, other favorite episodes, and why Red Dwarf is a consistent 7-chevron kind of show. Learn why Red Dwarf is really a deeper exploration into the meaning of life while also hilarious. Join the conversation on our socials!
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 16, "The Last Stand." This is a continuation of last week's episode called "Summit." You would think the Tok'ra would be the ones making their last stand here against the attack from System Lord Zapacna, but instead, SG-1 is making their last stand here plus Lt. Idiot/Lantash. Jacob and Daniel escape the system lord's mother ship...but not before the goa'uld partake in some cannibalism. We finally have goa'uld (buffet) art! Amazing. So what is next for the Tok'ra? Is Selmak the only one left? Join the discussion on our socials
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 15, "Summit." For the first time in ages, multiple system lords are meeting and the Tok'ra have conveniently synthesized a symbiot poison. Daniel gets volunteered to go with Jacob to the Summit and pose as Yu's closest human servant using the Reol chemical. Jack, Sam and Teal'c stay behind at Tok'ra base where Lt. Kyle Idiot is on his first mission. Apparenlty Lantash survived "Divide and Conquer" and blends with Lt. Idiot out of desperation to try to save his life. Daniel is going to use the weapon but, inconveniently, Sarah/Osiris is here and he is understandably hesitant to use it on her. This is a two-parter so stay tuned next week for the conclusion "The Last Stand." Join the discussion on our socials
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 14, "48 Hours". Teal'c is trapped in the Stargate as an energy signature (classic!) and Dr. Rodney McKay is brought in to consult and be the quintessential asshole. What arc this character has! Join the conversation on our socials.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 13 "Proving Ground". This is a nostalgic favorite for Silvana, but what's up with Lt. Haley being sidelined to a side character? How much brown nosing can Jack take? Is that the lady from Battlestar Galactica? Join the conversation on our socials.
The day has finally arrived, lovely listeners, when we get to discuss this testament to postmodern television! Martin Lloyd is back and he has written a television show that is eerily reminiscent of the Stargate Program. Silvana and Tegan are excited to be joined by their very special guests Eric and their military advisor, Rob. Where was Katharyn Powers in this episode? Join the discussion on our socials.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 11 "Desperate Measures". The Jack and Maybourne bromance continues when Carter is kidnapped and Maybourne returns to help Jack and the SG-C rescue her before it is too late. We'll be back with our episode on Wormhole X-Treme with special guest Eric on January 13th! Happy Holidays everyone. Don't miss Tegan on her latest appearance on Treksperts Quiz! Join the discussion on our socials.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 10 "2001" a follow up to Season 4's "2010" one of Silvana's all-time favorite episodes. SG-1 encounter the Aschen, again! Jack's note wasn't spefic enough and they meet the Aschen through a people who are seemingly being helped by the Aschen, the Volians. The Aschen make earth an offer for technology that is hard for anyone to refuse. So in the second episode in a row, earth is given an offer that seems too good to be true. And SPOILER ALERT...it is too good to be true! The Senator-Who-Won't-Be-Named is back and is putting his ego on full display. Jack is having none of it. Everyone has a part to play in this episode, even Walter and Hammond are teaming up to figure out of the Aschen are from the off-limits planet. Watch Tegan on Treksperts Quiz! Join the discussion on our socials.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 9 "Between Two Fires". This is the end of the Tollan storyline and the end of Narim and his cat. Silvana explains Legends of the Hidden Temple to Tegan. The ladies discuss our duties as citizens of a nation and the better downfall of the Tollan via infiltration instead of invasion. Tegan still wants justice for Hebron, and we could have gotten it this time! The ladies also wonder whatever happened to Narim's feelings? Join the discussion on our socials.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 8, “The Tomb”. This is not a favorite and is heavily reliant on the drama of the Cold War. Silvana and Tegan come up with several ways this plot could have been more interesting. While dull, this episode does pass the Bechtdel Test. And Peter Deluise directed while no one was bedridden! Congrats, Peter! Join the discussion on our socials.
Silvana and Tegan are joined by Eric, who discusses An Ascended Being Maxed Out My Credit Cards and his thoughts on Orlin. The three then discuss Season 5, Episode 7 "Beast of Burden". Chaka has been captured by offworld 'slavers' who use Unas for their menial labor. Daniel does his best to rescue Chaka without burning down this world, but will he succeed? Join the discussion on our socials.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 6 "Rite of Passage". This episode brings back the character Cassandra but played by the actress from "Bane". Check out our episode on "Singularity" ("The Distant Land of Toronto") and "Bane" ("Get Jeff Goldblum! We've Got A Bug Transformation Problem!"). This episode reminds both ladies of the first X-Men movie. Someone is in a bed the whole episode, so of course Peter DeLuise directs. Join the discussion on our socials.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5 Episode 5 "Red Sky", the inferior cousin to "Scorched Earth." SG-1 accidentally messes up a planet's sun, threatening their planet and existence. The people on the planet just happen to believe that the Asgard are their gods and they aren't too ready to be told they worship false gods and need to evacuate the planet. Why didn't Teal'c have something to say about a society worshipping false gods? Why is it always about Jack and Daniel? The Asgard won't help, even though it's pretty unlikely the goa'uld are monitoring this 24/7. We meet the Asgard council for the first time and they aren't the biggest fans of Jack. The science in this episode seemed especially made up, unfortunately even amazingly talented Amanda Tapping couldn't pull off making it seem legit. But of course, everything was fixed in the end...but was it the Tauri, or was it the Asgard? We may never know. Join the discussion on our socials. New episodes released weekly on Mondays.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 4 "The Fifth Man". If only they had made this the fifth episode!! The SG-1 team has a fifth member, or does it? An alien has convinced them that he is an injured member of their team in need of help. Will we ever see this race again??? Absolutely not. What if Simmons was a Reol? Silvana and Tegan come up with a great story line for the Reol race. Spoiler warning for season 1 of Rings of Power. Join the discussion on our socials. New episodes released weekly on Mondays.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 3 "Ascension". In this episode an ascended being takes a shine to Sam and hitches a ride home so he can stalk her. If he stalks her long enough, will she love him? YES?! This Sam-centric episode has some great scenes: Teal'c in a cowboy hat, for example. However, even Amanda Tapping's great acting and Jack not into Star Wars can make up for all the scenes in which we are screaming. Silvana learns what she's supposed to say back to "live long and prosper". Tegan is shamed for not bringing a towel places. Silvana proposes having an onsite therapist at the SG-C for crewmembers and psychological analyses of aliens they encounter. What do you think? Join the discussion on our socials. Apologies for some of the background noise. There is a construction zone at Silvana's house that is thankfully over now! We'll now be back to our regularly scheduled episodes every Monday. Fan letters were saved until the end since we dove right into this episode. We couldn't stop ourselves. Thank you for your patience, lovely listeners!
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 2 "Threshold". Silvana questions if Bae'tac has a life insurance policy out on Teal'c after this episode. Tegan does not recommend candles around oxygen tanks. Just a PSA for our lovely listeners. How does no one at the SG-C know Lord of the Rings well enough to recognize the name Va'lar? As usual, the ladies ask the hard hitting questions. Join the discussion or check out our season rankings on our Linktree. We will be returning October 14 with our next episode!
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 5, Episode 1 "Enemies". This is the second part of a three parter, that the ladies are not fans of. Silvana and Tegan brainstorm some better storylines where the main drive of the plot isn't Teal'c being brainwashed. This episode gets the highest marks yet for technical quality. Thanks to Prop Nquity for the email! Check out "Pod Meets World" if you're a "Boy Meets World" fan. Join our discussion on the socials.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 6, Episode 12 of Star Trek Voyager, "Blink of An Eye". This has been quite a journey for Tegan, who has agonized over which episode to show Silvana to convince her that Star Trek can be good, actually. Did Silvana enjoy the episode? Listen and find out! Join the discussion on our socials.
Silvana and Tegan discuss the tier ranking for Season 4 of "Stargate SG-1." There are some obvious episodes, like "Window of Opportunity" or "Point of No Return". Sorry, we were too late with our "Jane the Virgin" warning; you'll just have to find it somewhere else. Episodes with Jack/Sam romance immediately lose ranking. Silvana and Tegan take Sophia's opinions into consideration when deciding where to put "Entity". Surprisingly, "The First Ones" was a bigger hit than anticipated. Check out the tier ranking and other links on our Linktree.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 4, Episode 22 "Exodus" and discuss how Stargate SG-1 is veering into a more pure sci-fi style, and Silvana is not a fan of it. Another thing the hosts are not a fan of - the Tok'ra. The Tok'ra train has derailed into an alternate dimension at this point. The Tok'ra know Tanith (using Hebron as a host) is a spy but the whole spy business it just handled in the most ridiculous and frankly awful way. The Tok'ra used the host Hebron in a very goa'uld way by just using him for their own ends. This is the episode where Samantha Carter blows up a sun, and what a waste to do that in this episode. Stay tuned next week for our tier rankings...this one will be in a low tier for certain... Check out our instagram and other links on our linktree.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 4, Episode 21 "Double Jeopardy" and answer the question what does this have to do with the game show "Jeopardy"? This episode is Michael Shanks's directorial debut and features the actor who plays Lurch in the Addams Family. Harlan is back! He really does not understand what SG-1 does. Check out our instagram and other links on our linktree.
Silvana and Tegan are joined by their good friend and fellow podcaster, Sophia from Where's Beverly, for Season 4, Episode 20, "Entity". This is Sophia's favorite episode! She "must preserve!" Silvana dares Tegan to write the next fan fiction. Sophia explains why this is the best episode of Stargate. Sophia and Tegan discuss the medical inaccuracies in this episode, despite their onsite medical advisor. What would Stargate have looked like had Samantha Carter's body died and brought her back in a different body or used the robot Carter? Where have we seen that before... Check out our instagram and other links on our linktree. Where's Beverly Instagram Previous episodes with Sophia: "It's Equality"
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 4, Episode 19, "Prodigy". Cadet Hailey is introduced and we are told rather than shown that she is an insubordinate know-it-all and the powers that be want to throw her out of the academy. However, Sam wants to use her brain for good at the SGC so she brings her along to a mission to show her what she can use her intelligence for. SG-1 minus Daniel Jackson visit a moon (it's NOT a planet!) to supervise a team of scientists are studying....something? It's not really clear but they do encounter electricity bugs which the scientists immediately put into captivity which is always a good idea, right? Dr. Bill Lee is introduced in this episode and this is one scientist Silvana and Tegan actually like. Unfortunately for the other scientist named Bill in this episode, there can only be one one Bill. It's just the rules. Cadet Hailey and Major Carter have opposing opinions about what's happening with the electricity bugs. And Jack has to make the call and Cadet Hailey is adament that she needs to know who was right, even at the very end of the episode. Unfortunately, David Marquet's "Greatness" Video mentioned in this episode. Check out our website, socials, and tier rankings on our Linktree.
TW: Suicide/self-harm Silvana and Tegan watch Season 4, Episode 18, "The Light". Once again, there is a strong need for a therapist on base, but there is not one! There's not even a trigger warning for this episode... SG-1 is challenged by a planet that has a narcotic effect on anyone that visits it. They meet a teenager named Loren and rescue him from this planet - to never be seen again. Silvana asks the most important question of this episode: Where are they defecating? is Teal'c an honorary Jehovah's Witness? Was there a Little Finger gao'uld equivalent? Check out our website, socials, and tier rankings on our Linktree.
Silvana and Tegan are joined by guest star, Eric, for Season 4, Episode 17 "Absolute Power". In this episode, the Harsesis Child arrives at the SG-C to make Daniel fall asleep and dream of an alternative reality. The three discuss the child actor chosen for the Harcesis Child. Tegan finds it weird that this is back to back with "2010", since neither results in much change in the overall storyline. Will absolute power corrupt Daniel Jackson? Absolutely. Is breakfast a conspiracy? Join the discussion on our socials.
Tegan and Silvana watch Season 4, Episode 16 "2010". This episode is one of Silvana's favorite episodes and takes place ten years in the future. The Stargate program has been revealed to the world when a highly advanced people called the Aschen offer to share their technology with Earth. Could they be why the Earth birth rate is dropping? Yes, of course it is. This episode has some excellent easter eggs, especially when the team visits the SG-C as a museum site. Tegan didn't enjoy this episode as much as Silvana, but what did you think? Is this one of the best episodes of Stargate SG-1? Silvana and Tegan watch Season 4, Episode 15 "Chain Reaction," and are joined by guest star, Eric! This is a Maybourne and Jack episode and splits Jack from the rest of SG-1. The three discuss how Stargate is unique in how contemporary espionage plays into the storyline. Also isn't Kinsey the worst? Maybourne's apartment leaves much to be desired. It makes a Gao'uld froyo shop look like a great option for daily living. Is Teal'c an honorary Millennial? Join the discussion; check out our Linktree.
Tegan and Silvana watch Season 4, Episode 14, "Serpent's Venom". Another torture episode reminiscent of Sokar's hell episodes. And this time Teal'c is even more specifically targeted. The ladies go off on a tangent about gender and sexual fluidity and how it really should have been more explored when it comes to Goa'uld and Tok'ra, probably because we hated this episode and wanted to talk about something else. The Tok'ra's philosophy and ethics are discussed and the inconstitency is glaring. The Tok'ra racism towards Jaffa is really showing and Tegan's love for the Tok'ra is seriously challenged in this episode.... Join the discussion on one of our socials.
Tegan and Silvana watch Season 4, Episode 13, "The Curse". We move on to the next Daniel Jackson partner who becomes a goa'uld host. We find out a little about Daniel Jackson's past before the film when he returns to his alma mater after the death of his closest professor. Evidence is mounting that Sam Carter is queer! Silvana and Tegan watch Apollo 13, since Season 4 Episode 12 Tangent was basically just Apollo 13, but make it Stargate. Silvana and Tegan discuss the movie and also the state of racial and gender diversity in American Film in the 1990s (spoiler alert, it is lacking!). Also, how wonderful of a person Tom Hanks seems to be. To our non-American listeners, what do you think of this movie? Is it Americans puffing up their egos? Do you enjoy it? Let us know. Check out our Linktree to check out our website and tier ranking.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 4, Episode 12 "Tangent". The ladies speculate that this episode was a part of why Stargate got funding from the US Military as propaganda. This episode has Steven Williams, star of "21 Jump Street" as well, which makes Silvana excited. The rest of this episode is essentially Apollo 13 with Jack and Teal'c stuck in space and Stargate Command becomes Houston. Check us out on our LinkTree. For more about the history of the Apollo program, check out The Rest Is History episode, "Moonwalkers".
Silvana and Tegan are joined by Eric for Season 4, Episode 11 "Point of No Return". All three are very excited that we have reached this epsidoe and the first episode with Martin Lloyd and Murray. This is one of the few episodes that takes place entirely on Earth. Teal'c has learned a lot about being an earthling; enough to go undercover as a short order cook! Teal'c also tries on his alternate persona: Murray. How would the NID get someone's eye perscription? How long have these aliens been on Earth? Are "Sex in the City" and "Stargate SG-1" the same universe? RIP Willie Garson who Where's Beverly - Anatomy of An Episode for Season 4, Episode 10. Check out our Linktree to check out our website and tier ranking.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 4, Episode 9 "Scorched Earth". The ladies love this episode and suggest it as a great one to start people on Stargate. The SG-1 team are helping a group of people settle a new planet, but another civilization has already started terraforming it! How will the team solve this one? Answer: with the Daniel Jackson we've all been waiting for! With a little conversation, Daniel is able to solve everyone's problems. How is this advanced civilization not one of the original four races? This is rather like Horizon Zero Dawn, from the perspective of the Gadmere. Maybe it is just because Silvana is an Agile Coach, but this episode provides a great example of agile culture vs command/control structure. Join the discussion! Check out Cuba: An American History by Ada Ferrer Born Sexy Yesterday from Pop Culture Detective
Silvana and Tegan watch season 4, episode 8 "The First Ones". Daniel Jackson is kidnapped by an Unas as a sacrifice, and the SG-1 team has to track them to rescue him. Silvana and Tegan speculate about how the Jaffa could use this world to their advantage. What exactly is Chaka? Join the discussion on Discord or Instagram by visiting our Linktree.
Silvana and Tegan Watch Season 4, Episode 7 "Watergate." Marina Sirtis is a major highlight of this episode and gives us one of our favorite scenes of the episode. Her russian accent isn't half bad either, at least according to the hosts. The writer's transplanted Jack's sense of humor to Daniel in this episode with mixed results. Making jokes at the expense of other cultures doesn't seem like it'd be Daniel's thing to be honest. Maybourne is back and has been up to some treasonous activities, he's not on screen for nearly long enough, more scenes with Jack and Maybourne please! Silvana's other podcast White Lotus Radio covering the Avatar: The Last Airbender Live Action Netflix Series is coming soon! Stay tuned for updates. Join the discussion by joining one of our socials.
Silvana and Tegan are joined by their friend Eric for Season 4, Episode 6 "Window of Opportunity". This is a fan and podcast favorite! Have you ever wondered what Teal'c was doing while Jack was getting up to shenanigans? Find out what everyone's favorite parts were and just how much Tegan and Silvana hate the Jack/Sam moment. Eric has some theories about time loops. Silvana makes an observation about Stargate SG-1 and the West Wing. Join the discussion by joining one of our socials.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 4, Episode 5 "Divide and Conquer", and lament that they must watch yet another Anise/Freya episode. Thank goodness this is her last episode on the show; this poor actress was given such a bad character. Silvana and Tegan elaborate on how make-up is a no-win situation. Silvana really likes how this episode starts and ends, it's all the bits in between that the ladies do not like. There is a massive plot hole in this episode that involves pockets. They try to ship ALL the wrong people. They have updated their music library in Season 4! No more child's theme for lady friends! Yes, all wrong, Sophia. Martouf dying at the end is the worst part! And how limited Fraiser is by Anise/Freya each time the Tok'ra come to the base. Referenced Boob Armor Video Check us out on our Linktree.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 4 episode 4 "Crossroads." The Tok'ra are at it again, the Tok'ra train has totally derailed at this point, even Tegan can't deny it anymore. An old flame from Teal'c's past - Shan'auc - comes to the SGC with a truly unbelievable claim, that she has convinced her goa'uld symbiote to be a Tok'ra. Silvana and Tegan speculate on the status of Teal'c's marriage and question why no one on SG-1 brought any attention to the fact that Teal's is partnered as far as the audience knows. Teal'c is willing to leave the Tauri to help the Jaffa on Chulak, not to start the rebellion Silvana has proposed before, but to embark on a mission of brainwashing goa'uld symbiotes into being good, actually? How shocking that the symbiote (Tanith) was not reformed at all! The death of Shan'auc results since the Tok'ra did nothing to protect her from the very real possibility that Tanith had misled her and meant her harm! Do better, Tok'ra. Join the discussion on our Linktree.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 4 episode 3 "Upgrades" where their Tok'ra allies finally offer technology to give them an edge over the goa'uld, but with a notable cost. Both Silvana and Tegan are not big fans of Anise and the way Jack and Daniel act when she comes to the SGC. Anise brings technoology which accelerates everything about SG-1's (minus Teal'c) bodies and minds. She bulldozes Dr. Fraiser and Tegan has some issues with the methodology she uses in her human trial. Stargate really hits its stride here and the team dynamics really shine. Unfortunately, the hubris of human and Tok'ra-kind is really highlighted in this episode as well. Teal'c and Hammond are the stars of this episode. Did Anise know about the mission beforehand? And how did Apophis rise to power again? Join the discussion on our Linktree.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 4 episode 2 "The Other Side" which is an apt title for this episode where SG1 get involved in a world war and end up committing a genocide against white supremacists. Jack, focused so heavily on shiny new technology, misses all the red flags despite Daniel's obvious concerns until their leader, Alar, is clearly racist aginst Teal'c, prompting Jack to finally allow Daniel to ask some more questions about what this war is really about. But not until after telling Daniel to shut up in front of their hosts. A pretty balanced episode in terms of each of the team members having something to do. However, some of Jack's "jokes" did not land for Silvana and Tegan. Listen to find out which scene is stamped into Silvana and Tegan's memory for all time. Also, finally the members of the military are actually shooting the enemies. More of Sam being involved in combat please! What do smut novels and fan fiction have in common with this Stargate episode? Also, Silvana has a suggestion on how Maybourne could use Alar on earth. TW: discussions of genocide and Nazis Join the discussion on our Linktree.
Silvana and Tegan watch Season 4, Episode 1 "Small Victories". Stargate Command is visited by Thor asking for help in defeating the number one enemy of the Asgaard, the Replicators. Jack, Teal'c and Daniel are focused on defeating the Replicators that are on Earth from the previous episode while Sam goes off with Thor to save the Asgaard home world, since he needed someone dumber than him. What does this episode have to do with the Blair Witch Project? Why is Major Davis waiting for Daniel to give him orders? Why do men so rarely get redemption arcs? Silvana explains the origin of the term "cliffhanger". Join the discussion on our Linktree.
