Episode 144 Streamed Live Tuesday June 20, 2023 Main Topic: Monster Mash #14 - Slimes, Oozes, etc. Over the various editions of Dungeons and Dragons (DnD) there have been a few standard monsters in this category. They are generally amorphous, unintelligent, slow moving and are more like hazards than creatures. What makes them creatures is they grow, likely reproduce, and “attack” by some form of acid. In essence, they try to break down their victims and absorb them. These creatures have not organization or culture. Those attacked are done so opportunistically, not from any type of desire or motivation. Something lands on or near them and they attempt to digest it. The standard creatures are: Black Pudding, Gray Ooze, Green Slime, Ochre Jelly, Yellow Mold, and the Gelatinous Cube. The gelatinous cube is a little different from the others as they use pseudopods to attack and can actively move to a target. Later, Violet Fungi, Shriekers, and Gas Spores were added to this category as “fungus creatures”. These are a bit more complex, but still unintelligent. We discuss: 1) Their differences over the editions 2) Memorable encounters 3) Alternate takes or uses in encountersRandom Geek-itude: Report from Big Geek Land Big Geek Con: September 22-23, 2023Four Seasons Hotel in Saginaw, MI. – be there or be square! When 16-year old Fola, struggling to deal with her brother's cancer diagnosis and impending surgery, follows a motley crew along the Victoria Line and past its final Brixton stop, she discovers Folkshore, a mystical land where all is not as it seems.Between navigating talking animals, mythical Shriekers and a thunderstorm that leaves her trapped in Folkshore, she discovers a nefarious gentrification plot by the Assembly, a plan that is enforced by pugnacious police pigs.Fola quickly discovers that the only way out is through, and finds herself working to save Folkshore while still desperately trying to get back home to be by her brother's side.If she fails, the community she's come to love could be destroyed forever and she may never find her way home.Buy Finding Folkshorehttps://amzn.to/3TyH63JFollow Rachel Faturoti rachelfaturoi.comTwitter @rachelwithan_eInstagram @authorrachelfaturotiPatreon - Support The Showpatreon.com/theconversationwithnadinemathesonpodcastThank you for joining me. In this short, we try a Halloween variety of Skittles Shriekers Sour Candy. Similar to the Dorito's we just tried, some are sour and some are normal. Tune in to see which ones we liked, and which one tastes like unhappiness. Then, in keeping up with his film inspiration tales, Matt tells Kelsey about the legend of Sawney Bean, the supposed leader of a group of murderous cannibals from 1500's Scotland. If you think Matt likes bad movies, let him know.
Tremors 3 Back To Perfection movie review from the Salty Nerds has them liking this Tremors sequel a little better than the second film, but not by much. By this point in the Tremors franchise, Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward are nowhere to be found, so Michael Gross steps up to the plate as his character Burt Gummer is now the main character of the series. We return to the small town of Perfection Nevada where many of the original actors from the first Tremors film reprise their roles, albeit 11 years later. This time, the Graboids return, but evolve yet AGAIN into a new form that is better than the Shriekers from the second movie, but with an even more ridiculous name. What is your Tremors 3 review? Tremors 2 Aftershocks movie review from the Salty Nerds has them feeling like they were denied vital, need-to-know information, because this sequel falls far short of the classic original Tremors. Fred Ward and Michael Gross are back for the second installment of the Tremors franchise, but Kevin Bacon is nowhere to be found. This time, the Graboids evolve into a less scary version called Shriekers, and now both the comedy and the tension is extremely lacking. But Burt Gummer is back, and he's the highlight of the film, so at least there's that. What is your Tremors 2 review? Did you like it? Hate it? Did it deserve to be a direct to video sequel? Mulan is finally being release! But are we happy about it? There's a new American Pie movie on its way, Knight Rider is returning (again), and Zac Efron is set to potentially be one of three men who have a baby. Can you count with us? We're talking Dirty Dancing 2, Tron 3, Star Trek 4, John Wick 5, and Tremors 6 (no wait... that's 7).
The franchise is going back home...a home forever stained in the memories of horrible deaths, but home none the less. Lead by THE Burt Gummer, a group of new and old characters take on Graboids and Shriekers, however, it can't be that simple.
Byrd and Matt are joined by artists Nick Shev and John Bellotti to take a detour into an American monster franchise and discuss all six (!) Tremors films (to date). We start with the origins of the classic original film and go through the entire series, including some brief talk about the canceled television series, the actual television series, the problem with Shriekers, the OTHER canceled television series, and more! Get on top of the nearest rock and tune in!
We continue our cinematic journey in the Tremors franchise with this sequel. A mix of old and new characters take on the giant worms, but of course, things get crazier. Is this a worthy sequel or not? Jess and I lay it out for you.
Dan and Jon dig in to one of the more unlikely franchises in cinema, which began with the release of the original Tremors 30 years ago this month, and has since spawned sequels, a prequel, and two (failed) TV series. After all the different directions in which this franchise has already gone, is there anything they could possibly suggest that hasn’t already been tried? Listen in and see what they have in mind for the future of the Graboids, Shriekers, Assblasters, and other members of the subterranean species. Also: Dan and Jon share their takes on the Academy Award nominations for the first 34 minutes.Next episode: We celebrate one year of RUINED CHILDHOODS with The Rocketeer (1991)
