A comics podcast by cartoonists Katie Skelly and Sally Madden.
The Thick Lines podcast is a fantastic show for anyone who loves comics and enjoys in-depth discussions about them. It is refreshing to hear the hosts dissect and analyze various comic titles, including popular ones like Ghost World and The Maxx, while also sharing their personal thoughts and experiences related to these works. As a listener, I found it incredibly fun to engage with the recurring themes and ideas that the hosts explore, which ultimately made me realize that comic nerds are not as weird as I once thought. If you're unsure about whether or not to give this podcast a listen, then let me assure you that it comes highly recommended by both myself and many others who have enjoyed it.
One of the best aspects of The Thick Lines podcast is the enthusiasm and knowledge that the hosts bring to each episode. Being great cartoonists themselves, they offer unique insights into the writing and artistry behind comics, which adds depth to their discussions. Their passion for the medium shines through in their conversations, making it easy for listeners to get swept up in their excitement. Additionally, I appreciate how they relate comics to real-life experiences, showing how these stories can resonate with people on a personal level.
While there are many positives about this podcast, there are a couple of aspects that could be improved upon. Firstly, some listeners might find it challenging to follow along with all the Art History references mentioned throughout the episodes. While these references may provide additional context or deeper understanding for those familiar with art history, it could alienate listeners who are not well-versed in that subject. It would be beneficial if the hosts could provide more explanations or background information when referring to Art History concepts.
In conclusion, The Thick Lines podcast is an absolute delight for comic lovers seeking engaging discussions about their favorite medium. With its humorous tone and insightful analysis of various comics, it offers an enjoyable listening experience for both casual readers and avid fans alike. While there may be some minor drawbacks, such as the occasional reliance on Art History references, the overall quality and content make this podcast a must-listen for anyone interested in comics. Don't hesitate to give it a try, as it comes highly recommended by many, including myself.
