Now that they've finally seen the Classic Original TREMORS, Greg & Roxanne return to give their Tremors 2 Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis & Spoiler Review!! Greg Alba & Roxy Striar return to the monster-infested desert in their Reaction & Review of Tremors 2: Aftershocks, the 1996 direct-to-video sequel to the cult classic Tremors. Directed by S.S. Wilson, this action-packed horror comedy follows Earl Bassett (Fred Ward – The Right Stuff, Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins) as he's lured out of retirement to hunt a new outbreak of Graboids in a Mexican oil field. Teaming up with enthusiastic young sidekick Grady Hoover (Christopher Gartin – Black Swan, Tremors: The Series) and eccentric survivalist Burt Gummer (Michael Gross – Family Ties, Tremors), Earl soon discovers the monsters have evolved into even more terrifying forms: the heat-seeking “Shriekers.” Filled with explosive traps, underground chases, and outrageous creature effects, Tremors 2 builds on the original's charm with memorable moments like Burt's over-the-top bunker raid, the big Shrieker reveal, and the iconic “remote-controlled car bomb” scene. This fan-favorite sequel retains the humor and thrills that made the franchise a cult hit, while introducing a new evolutionary twist in Graboid biology that shocked longtime fans. Greg Alba & Roxy Striar dive into the cult classic creature feature that launched a beloved franchise — Tremors (1990)! Starring Kevin Bacon as handyman Valentine McKee, alongside Fred Ward as Earl Bassett, Finn Carter as seismologist Rhonda LeBeck, Michael Gross as survivalist Burt Gummer, and Reba McEntire in her film debut as Heather Gummer, this hilarious and thrilling horror-comedy follows the residents of Perfection, Nevada as they battle monstrous underground creatures known as Graboids. We break down iconic scenes like the Graboid bursting through the floorboards, the rooftop standoff, the DIY bomb plan, and the unforgettable moment when the giant worm crashes into the cliff. With practical effects that still hold up, razor-sharp editing, and endlessly quotable lines like “We plan ahead, that way we don't do anything right now,” this reaction celebrates the blend of horror, comedy, and survival that made Tremors an enduring fan favorite. We also touch on its legacy with sequels like Tremors 2: Aftershocks, Tremors: Back to Perfection, and the short-lived TV series, while giving love to the creature design, the desert-town atmosphere, and the surprising heart at the center of the chaos. When Tremors was released in 1990, Kevin Bacon—who starred as Valentine McKee—thought it would kill his career. Like all great cult classics, though, Tremors has come to be one of the actor's most beloved films. And that's not a mistake. Tremors is a ton of fun. With an interesting new creature that burrows under the surface and terrorizes a small town, it does exactly what a monster movie should do. Add in its abundance of humor and great characters, and the recipe is there for an infinitely rewatchable film. It's no surprise then that after a tepid theatrical box office, Tremors tripled its gross on VHS rentals and purchases. That is what insiders call, "bringing home the bacon." Now, sit back, bring the heat with a Hatch Chile Gatos from Fate Brewing, and get off the ground! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are feeding these damned motherhumpers a bucket of hot lead! This Week's Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – The monster movie that breaks new ground! (0:00) Lingering Questions – Tremors boasts great practical effects, but which is our favorite? This episode Nez and Taylor go up against a new kind of Graboid in the 1996 horror/adventure TREMORS 2: Aftershocks. After spending all the reward money from his first encounter with the giant man-eating worms called "Graboids," Earl Bassett (Fred Ward) agrees to hunt more of the deadly creatures at a Mexican oil refinery for $50,000 each. Knowing that he cannot face the monsters alone, Earl recruits Burt Gummer (Michael Gross), another veteran of the incident in Nevada, to supply the firepower. There is only one problem: The Graboids have now evolved to attack above ground. Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/665 Presented By: Drifthook Fly Fishing, Angler's Coffee, Togiak River Lodge, Yellowstone Teton Territory Jonathan Farmer, steelhead fly tying guru and author of Chasing Chrome: Tying Steelhead and Pacific Salmon Flies is here to take us into his world of Alaska and steelhead fishing. We'll hear the stories behind flies like the Graboid, Led Zep Prawn, and Mini Me, plus why Jonathan's shifting to more natural patterns and how he picks his colors. Jonathan ties some of the cleanest flies you'll ever see. He's been putting in 40 to 70 hours a week for over 10 years! Find out why so many people are looking him up and how his book is packed with tips to help you understand fly design. Ready to pick up some tricks from a pro? Grab a notepad. You're going to want to jot these down! Show Notes with Jonathan Farmer on Tying Steelhead and Pacific Salmon Flies. 11:17 – Fly fishing started for Jonathan when he was just 17 during a backcountry camp in Colorado. He started with conventional fishing and even joined tournaments in Texas. He worked on sport fishing yachts in South Florida before moving to Alaska, where he got into fly fishing. 12:14 – Jonathan shares that each season in Alaska offers unique opportunities. In spring, he loves stone fly fishing on the Kenai. Summer brings great dry fly action and swinging wet flies. By fall, fish target spawning sockeye. Steelhead and Pacific Salmon Flies Chasing Chrome: Tying Steelhead and Pacific Salmon Flies 21:20 – Jonathan talks about how he always wanted to write a fishing book. A few years ago, he started jotting down thoughts but put them aside. He teamed up with Mike at Mossy's Fly Shop for help with photos. 24:18 – The book features Jonathan's favorite steelhead and Pacific salmon flies, complete with step-by-step instructions. He says the book wouldn't be what it is without Marty Howard's input on its layout and design. Marty also co-wrote the book Steelhead Fly Tying Art and Design with Dec Hogan. Check out our episode with Dec Hogan here! Steelhead and Pacific Salmon Flies The Book's Creation 30:37 – Jonathan said the toughest part of writing his book was the editing process. He followed Marty's advice and printed three copies for friends to review. Visit Jonathan's website or Instagram to grab your copy of his book. You can also get a signed copy, which comes with three flies from the book! 34:07 – The book covers fly-tying techniques and color choices. Jonathan mentioned that while some flies, like the Led Zep Prawn, are super fun to tie, they can be complex. He enjoys having a fly box just to admire the cool designs, even if he doesn't fish with all of them all the time. Watch this video of Jonathan tying the Led Zep Prawn on Youtube: The Challenge of Naming Flies 36:08 – There are 21 unique flies in the book that Jonathan created himself. He said that designing flies is probably easier than naming them. “The Graboid,” was named by a friend without even knowing it. Many of his flies have music-themed names, like “Sure Shot,” inspired by the Beastie Boys, and “Crown Jewel,” from Brother Ali. He even has a tube fly named “Zoomer,” which was created during a Zoom course. Finding the Perfect Steelhead Fly Proportions 52:29 – Jonathan has been tying flies for nearly a decade and puts in a serious amount of hours—sometimes 70 a week! 53:26 – We dive into how to balance materials when tying the perfect steelhead fly. It's all about finding the right proportions—not too sparse, but not overly bulky either. If a fly feels too full, he advises creating a channel to slim it down. Jonathan reminds us that even experienced tiers sometimes end up with flies that are a bit bulkier than intended, and it's okay to make adjustments. 55:39 – Bulky flies don't move or breathe well in the water, which affects how they mimic bait. A fly that casts poorly or looks stiff in the water won't attract fish. Jonathan uses a tank in his office to test the movement of his flies. If it doesn't swim or breathe right after a few hours, it's a no-go for him, and he tosses it. The Mini-Me Graboid Jonathan shares the story of the Mini-Me fly. The Mini Me uses pine squirrel instead of rabbit, making it a smaller, more versatile fly. Jonathan uses it for steelhead, coho, and trout, especially in colors like black and red or black and blue. Hello everyone, today I talk about the sequel to Tremors that being Tremors.2: Aftershocks. Which Stars Fred Ward as Earl Bassett, Christoper Gartin as Grady Hoover, Helen Shaver as Dr. Kate Reilly, and Michael Gross as Burt Gummer. In this adventure, Val has moved away after marrying Rhonda Lebeck and Earl is an ex-celebrity who blew all his money on a failed ostrich farm. Brought back into the Graboid hunting game after being told that they were back and terrorizing an oilfield in Mexico. But he isn't doing it alone as he is helped by a fan and taxi driver Grady Hoover after which Grady and Earl's truck is dragged by a Graboid due to it grabbing the chain attached to Earl's truck and dragged almost off a cliff but the chain breaks off once the Graboid goes under a rock formation. Later, Earl contacts Burt and asks him to help him go Graboid hunting which as we know Burt he comes locked and loaded ready to hunt the creatures. While Earl and Grady are following a Graboid they crash the truck and find later that night that the Graboid had burst open and something has come out of it. We find out what those things are after Earl and Grady walk to a radio tower but find a new monster called a Shreiker which is a Bipedal aphrodite that can reproduce without sex and in large numbers pretty fast. After Burt has a near-death firefight with the new creatures. Earl, Grady, Kate, and Burt later outwit the creatures when Earl arms explosives in Burt's duece in a half truck. The ending shows the creatures blown to bits. Earl and Kate plan to date plus Grady tells Earl that they should open a monster-inspired theme park with all the money they will make and the film ends. Welcome to Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gamed, and our Pathfinder 2nd Edition podcast. We are playing Wrath of the Righteous! It is a Pathfinder adventure path from 1st edition which we will be converting into Pathfinder 2nd Edition. Listen to us talk about what characters we are thinking of playing, as well as the work we already done to convert some of the player options. Listen to us joke around, talk shop, laugh, and have fun as we get amped up for our new campaign. If your interested in what we converted so far from Wrath of the Righteous, check our website at www.nvngpodcast.com for any files we upload under the socials section. Now in midair, and being pulled across the death mist chasm, with an entourage of wizards and warriors, the gravity spell that is aiding us across also pulled up something creepy crawly out of the ground, and it is none too happy with its midair predicament. Once we reached the other side, we tried to evade it, but we only drew its attention even more! Join us as we try to save as many hedge wizards and warriors as we can in this fight inside the safe passage spell to the Grey Garrison! Meat-eating sandworms atttack A-listers Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward in this horror comedy B-movie. On paper it's drier than old Nevada cow dung - so what makes this flick so fun? Graboid your head out of the sand and into our brains.
This week the forbidden couple take a time out from their "What were our parents thinking" series to pay homage to the great Fred Ward. We dig into a film that was a staple of Jenny's adolescence, but was completely forbidden from Zack. This is a movie that Zack can specifically remember the moment in which it was turned off by his aunt. We watched the 1990 film, Tremors. Come along with us as we watch Fred Ward, Kevin Bacon, and the Dad from Family Ties fight a bunch of under-ground mother-humping monsters. We try to break down the population of Perfection, NV and try to determine the biological imperatives of the Graboid species with only 1 of the 7 films in our wheelhouse. Zack also kind of revels in this movie that was turned off for swearing by using a bit more salty language than usual, content advisory.

Rob stumbled upon artist Jonathan Farmer while looking how to tie intruder flies on the OPST YouTube page. He was articulate in the well-done videos and his patterns didn't require exotic materials or require skill levels beyond Rob's capabilities. Rob and Producer Jason fished Jonathan's Graboid flies two years ago for Great Lakes steelhead and the fish ate them all. Its Jonathan's turn in the hot seat to tell us about his life as a fly tier in Alaska and the life he lives in an active geological area. We'll hear his thoughts on intruder fly orientation based on the pattern and his dos and don'ts for tying. And just what was the biggest thing Jonathan has found while fishing? Listen now. This episode is produced by Jason Reif and brought to you by the new Elemental Color Series by Solo Stove. I have met very few people in my life that wouldn't agree that the film Tremors is a perfect movie. Kevin Bacon is now a huge star but to this day Tremors is still one of the movies people mention him for. However, does anyone think of the sequels fondly? Well my guest today Nick Almendarez is maybe the biggest Tremors fan I've ever known. He goes hard on every movie in the franchise. When I started this podcast I knew 100% that we would be covering probably all of these movies, so naturally we started with the most recent release on Netflix, Shrieker Island. Do these monster movies stand up as solid entertainment or do they belong in the bargain bin? Don't forget to use promo code DEFENDING at The Cryptic Closet for 21% off your order. Straight from Nevada, we're joined by our good friend Noah Kiriu to talk about one of his favorite movies, Tremors! We grabbed our best Graboid-shaped foods and dug deep into the pleistocene alluvials to discuss the Tremors series and its legacy since releasing.

We have a special bonus episode for you this month as Thomas, Jesse, and Tom sit down with Jon Heder to talk about the Zack Snyder cut of the Justice League. We talk about what we liked, what we didn't like, and what we are just so confused by. You also get an exclusive as to why Jon Heder is now going to be officially dubbed Sexy Jon Jonzz. After we break down The Justice League, we talk to Jon Heder about Napoleon Dynamite(OF COURSE!), his most recent project, Tremors: Shrieker Island! Be sure to check out the film on Netflix, it's a truly hilarious film with some awesome Graboid action that does justice to longtime fans of the series, and is also a good entry point for new fans. All this, and we still get to pick Jon's brain about some projects we wish would happen and his very short career as a Fortnite gamer. As always, thank you for listening, please do us a favor and leave us a rate and review, let us know how we are doing, and what we can do better. If anything else, EMBRACE YOUR INNER GEEK.
Monster hunter Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) traces the Bloodlines of his subterranean nemesis all the way back to a slimy cave in Africa in the safari-minded sequel Tremors 5. How much bigger and badder has Graboid evolution become on the Dark Continent, with the introduction of nocturnal Ass Blasters and detachable snake tentacles? And what kind of relationship does the cranky survivalist hope to forge with flamboyant new cameraman Jamie Kennedy (Scream)? Go off the grid with Arnie, Jakob, and Stuart and find out now!
It's a cold day in hell and someone's gonna need to milk a Graboid!
