How do you face fear? Fake it until you make it? Nicole Packin, owner of Miami Pet Concierge & The Packin Method, joins the show to share how she worked through her fears and self doubt in starting her business. Nicole ran her business for 15 years, then decided to set up in a brand new location, several states away. She gives us some insight into what it's like operating across state lines and why it's critical to stay fresh and up-to-date as a business. Nicole also shares how HOPE is the key to running a successful pet care business. Topics on this episode: * What does concierge mean? * Staying fresh in business * Starting a treadmill service * Overcoming fear * H.O.P.E. Main take away: Running a business takes faith in yourself and trial and error. About our guest: Nicole's career working with animals began in Los Angeles, California. After graduating from the University of Miami with a BS in Communication, Nicole moved to the West Coast to pursue a television career as a writer. While working for William Morris Endeavor (formerly known as William Morris Agency), Spelling Television, and Jerry Bruckheimer Television, Nicole began volunteering for The Amanda Foundation, an animal welfare organization. Finding her work with dogs a life changer, Nicole moved back to Miami, Florida, intending to learn all she could about animal welfare in her hometown. Immediately, Nicole began working for the Humane Society of Greater Miami. She was involved in all aspects of the organization's operations and fundraising and helped lead the capital campaign for the organization's Soffer-Fine Adoption Center in North Miami Beach, Florida. In 2007, Miami Pet Concierge was developed and began out of both a labor of love and need. After years of working in and around the animal shelter system, Nicole learned that one of the number one reasons pets were being given up or returned was “time,” or lack thereof. With this knowledge, Nicole started a business to help pet owners become great pet parents. With just a little guidance, education, and support, Nicole has had the opportunity to work hand and paw with thousands of amazing domesticated animals and their families, caring for and teaching them how to cohabitate peacefully. Having moved to Dallas, Texas, to be closer to family, Nicole will begin her new "pet" project in August 2022 with The Packin Method. Dallas' ONLY mobile Canine Gym will work to better dogs' mental, emotional, and physical health by providing treadmill workouts, massage & bodywork, and dog walks. Combining her years of rehabilitative and animal behavior studies and understanding that dogs need both mental and physical stimulation to be well-balanced, Nicole created a service that would combine both in a temperature-controlled environment and bring the service to her clients. When not running Miami Pet Concierge and The Packin Method or in school, Nicole is an active volunteer at Canine Companion for Independence and Operation Kindness. She is married and is the proud momma to Slater (Russian Blue mix), Kevin & Jenny (Spinone Italiano's). What we cover: “Failure doesn’t move us back. It moves us forward. Failure tells us what is no longer working.” – Jen Grisanti   As a VP of CBS Paramount, overseeing Current Programming, Jen Grisanti was exactly where she wanted to be, or so she thought. Then, one day, the unthinkable happened, and without warning, she suffered a big crash when her professional reality was turned on its head and she was let go. The ladder she had been climbing collapsed from underneath her. But guess what she did? She did what Aaron Spelling -- yes that Aaron Spelling -- her long-time business mentor taught her to do: She found the gold in her story. Jen’s career began working side by side with Aaron, ultimately as head of Current Programming for Spelling Television. She was instrumental in shaping many of the shows we love today – 90210, Melrose Place, Charmed, Seventh Heaven, you name it – and in this capacity, she started to see that great stories in fiction share the same qualities as great stories in life, and vice versa. We have a hero, we have a dilemma, we have a goal, we have that rock bottom moment, and we see that hero rise again. So when Jen’s career as she knew it tumbled down around her, she knew she had two choices – to be a victim of circumstance. Or to learn from it and blossom. She chose the latter.   Hers is by no means a story relegated to those in the entertainment industry. Not by a long shot. Hers a story that is universal. The specifics may not be the same, but the message is. I love this episode, I love this woman, I love her story. And you know what? As a sucker for Charlie’s Angels, Love Boat, Fantasy Island, I loved hearing firsthand what Aaron Spelling was like as a person. Self-made and accessible and a lover of Pink’s Hot Dogs. Today, Jen Grisanti is principal of Jen Grisanti Inc. She provides feedback and guidance – notes, as they say in the bizz –  to writers who are developing projects. Forty-two of her writers have gone on to sell their series as pilots, which is huge. She’s an instructor with NBC’s prestigious Writers on the Verge program. She’s an internationally sought after speaker – having spoken in Australia, Israel, London, Toronto. And she’s the author of three books: Change your Story, Change your life; Storyline: Finding the gold in your life story; and the TV Writing Toolkit.  Our talk specifically focuses on how we can all find the gold in our own story. You may think you’ve hit rock bottom, but with a perspective shift, you will see you haven’t. Where you really are is one step away from an “a-ha” that is going to rocket you to greater heights -- if you are willing to identify it and take action. That’s the key. Despite the fact that Jen is probably one of the busiest people in Hollywood, she made time to meet with me on a Saturday morning in LA. And it was pure perfection. She speaks candidly about the collapse of her marriage, and the fact that, had she not lost the things she thought she “needed” in order to have “arrived” that she’d never be where she is today. And that is a place of authentic arrival -- a life built entirely on her own terms, using the gifts she has accrued from a 25 year career shaping the stories that have captivated millions of people around the world. When you talk to Jen and you talk about heart ache and heart break and disappointment, you soon realize that she sees those as the gold -- the “all is lost” moment, as they say in Hollywood, when truly good things are just around the corner.

Jen Grisanti is an acclaimed story and career consultant at Jen Grisanti Consultancy Incorporated. She’s also a writing instructor for NBC’s Writers on the Verge, a former studio executive and a blogger for the Huffington Post. Jen is the author of Story Line: Finding Gold in your Life Story, TV Writing Tool Kit: How to Write a Script that Sells and her latest book, Change your Story, Change your Life. She is an absolute power house. We share a lot of similar ideas around the theme of your story is everything and everything is story and how that really colors your reality, your relationships and your business. Three different stories that entrepreneurs need to think about:          1. The story of what led you to open your company (your why). Your personal dilemma is your why. Understanding your why is everything to your success. 2. The story of your company (your company’s why). The why of Jen’s company was looking at her customers and recognizing with her clients what their why was and how her company could be the answer to their why. 3. The story of your customer (your customers why).                                                    Jen Grisanti’s why: Jen’s world was thrown out of balance when she lost her job as a studio executive at Spelling Television and CBS Paramount following the death of her mentor Aaron Spelling. She felt like 15 years of work went up in smoke. She had to connect her dilemma, which was the fear that everything she had learned would no longer have value. Her why was to create a business where everything she teaches focuses on her strength as a studio executive. Mission statement of Jen Grisanti Consulting, Inc: To stop isolation and create community through the telling of story on a global level How story telling leads to more customers: Story needs to come from within. In order to understand your story you need to go there with people and when you do you create a client who wants to come back for every story. Not only that but they will want to share it with their friends and you will have clients that are coming from your clients. Then you will have clients who are going to stay with you for years because they enjoy the emotional connection. Rock bottom moment: Every new story begins on a rock bottom moment. Instead of looking at the rock bottom moment as the worst thing that could happen, look at it as the best thing that could happen. The rock bottom moment represents the end of something that wasn’t working and the beginning of something that could. What took Jen out of the baby pool and into the ocean: The recognition that we can fail forward. When we fail we get information on what’s not working and clarity on what could work. Failure was a huge part of the past of many very successful business people. Failure represents that we tried. If we’re not trying then big success is never going to happen. ·      Free gift from Jen: To receive her Log Line Worksheet and special offers, click HERE! [http://www.jengrisanti.com/blog/] ·      You can also find Jen on twitter at @JenGrisanti ·      Read Geeta’s article “Why I Quit Sucking My Thumb at Age 34 (Yes, It Was a Business Decision)” [http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/245774]   ·      Write headlines no journalist can resist, with the 58-headline template pack [http://babygotbooked.com/headlines]
