Building Your Legacy - Pillar 6 – PURPOSE By Pastor George Lehman It's a lifetime action we live it out daily You don't build your legacy when you come to church. You build it every day! NB!! (Every day we live out our purpose) Proverbs 19:21 (NIV) - “Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's PURPOSE that prevails*” *Prevails: Prove more powerful or superior Its Gods purpose to perform His deeds through us. The Holy Spirit in me activates Gods purpose in my life. In the movie “Forrest Gump” Forrest stands by the graveside of his wife Jenny and asks, “Do we float around like a feather on a breeze or do we have destiny.” Sadly, so many Christians today just as that feather float around in their Spiritual lives without any clear purpose. And won't leave a Legacy which has much substance. Because they are: Blown from one Spiritual High to hopefully another. From this move of God to the next. From this activity to hopefully another one. From a goose bump experience to another goose bump experience. (We rely on a High to get us by) This is certainly not living a fulfilled life with purpose that God has intended for you to live. Throughout many of our 21st Century Churches today, There's a lot of church-inanity but little authentic Christianity. When you are a Christian it means (CHRIST IN YOU) you have divine purpose. (People are living so disconnected from God!) I would like to categorically say to you - YOU do have a Legacy and a destiny, and that God has a specific purpose for your life. (Ons is nie doeloos op pad nie) Purpose = the Greek word in this context is Prothesis: It refers to a setting forth a *deliberate Intention. *Opsetlike / doel voorneme Purpose produces a consistent life. Nobody said living your purpose would be easy. Yes, surely there are days when you are going to feel down, defeated and discouraged. Sure, you are going to have challenges, hardships and trials. In between the Highs, the Lows will come. However, you still have a great purpose. But remember you can get up and face each day of your life, Proverbs 24:16 “for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes. You can be very sure of this: That our life has purpose weather I feel like it or not. You are significant You are useful. You can face every day effectively with a finishing strong on purpose attitude. Which I might add at this point; it supports your Legacy because it influences those around you too! Galatians 4:18 - Its fine to be zealous provided the *purpose is good and to be so always and not just when I am with you.*Your deliberate intention In other words, don't only be full of spiritual life and action here in church or when you're with other Christians. Philippians 2:12-13(NIV) – 12Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed-not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence-continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. As I said, Proverbs 19:21 – The Lords purpose which is more powerful and superior. God never does or did or will do anything without purpose think of all these examples: Numbers 23:19(Amp) – God is not a man, that He should tell or act a lie, neither the son of man, that He should feel repentance or compunction [for what He has promised]. Has He said and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken, and shall He not make it good? Noah Abraham Isaac/Jacob Joseph Moses Joshua David Soloman wisest man that ever lived The Prophets All this ON PURPOSE for the preparation of the Coming Jesus Christ. They had Purpose written all over them…And so do you! (Why then do you think you do not have purpose) John 12:27 - Now my soul is troubled and what shall I say? Father save me from this hour? But for this purpose I came to this hour. The disciples were called for a purpose. Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV) – 19” Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Paul called for a purpose Acts 26:16 - Rise and stand to your feet for I have appeared to you for this purpose to make you a minister and a witness. What about DAVID Acts 13:36 (NIV) – “Now when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed.” You too are Called for a purpose 2Timothy 1:8-9(NIV) – 8So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God. 9He has saved us and called us to a holy life-not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time. We have got to understand that we are very special to God. He planned our usefulness before time began. Ephesians 2:10 (Amp) – For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above-spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us.] We do not merely exist as Christians and then someday we die and then go to heaven NO!! We must be people who live out our purpose and not for a month or a year but for a lifetime. This is what Building a legacy is all about REMEMBER we don't finish strong with a great legacy by luck or by accident or by chance. If you and I are going to build a great legacy and finish strong with purpose, you will have to ensure the following: You must acknowledge that you have purpose and begin to thank God for using you purposefully in His Kingdom. Soberly ask what could be keeping me from genuinely fulfilling my purpose and producing maximum fruit. Get rid of or cut off any negative influences that are causing you to not have a legacy building purpose. Close: Ephesians 1:15-17 (NIV) – 15For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God's people, 16I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. To fully understand your purpose, we need to go from a level of information to revelation and transformation. Its Devine revelation that changes people and not just information. However, having the information must bring Transformation. God is preparing us His church for a great purpose. If all of us saved born again believers sitting in this church and those listening by way of media. Just began to live out our God given purpose. Hell will be plundered and heaven populated. Your purpose: To become more like Jesus To work out your salvation with fear and trembling To produce the fruit of the Spirit To be obedient to the word of God.
1. This world is a dangerous place for children 3:19-242. The nursery is a tragic place for a grown son 3:25-4:11Enjoying all that it means to be a true son…• To come of age, in the Only Son• To belong, no matter what, in the Spirit• To be known, by the Father
Out of all the gifts that I have received in life, the gift of praying in tongues(or praying in the spirit) has been the best and most beneficial gift in my life. Jesus promises us the Holy Spirit and it's even foretold in the book of Joel 2:28 that in the last days after Israel is forgiven by God he begins to tell Joel how he is going to bless and restore them. One way is by pouring out his spirit. In a world full of increasing deception and sin, the Holy Spirit is needed in the life of every believer. There are many benefits that come with praying in the Spirit: To name a few: 1. A deeper understanding of God's word 2. Able to overcome Temptations 3. You're filled with a supernatural power 4. You will go into intercessional groanings and pray for others without them telling you anything 5. You are being built up in the spirit or "edified" (to withstand hard times) If you desire this gift, know that you can be filled! This is not just a gift for a few, but to all who desire and believe, you too shall be filled.
When we ask for healing, God responds with either: yes, no or wait. The first two can be easy—we got our answer! But "wait" can be the hardest one. Sometimes a "wait" is an invitation to a deeper relationship with Christ. Sometimes a "wait" is for situations outside of our control. Regardless of the circumstances, a "wait" answer to our prayer shows that God has a plan bigger than us. As we head into week five of our series The Healer: His Name is Jesus, Pastor Matt shares God's will for healing and how we should approach him with our requests.Like, subscribe, and leave us a comment.Pastor Matt Brown talks about:-We will discover God's will for healing by:--Personally asking Jesus for a miracle--Searching for God's will while I wait--Spending time with the healer--Spending time praying with my church family-When you pray for someone:--Keep it short and honest--Listen for the voice of God's Spirit-To embrace the mystery of God's will on some thingsLearn more about Sandals Church by visiting our website https://sandalschurch.com/ or downloading our mobile app https://sandalschurch.com/appSupport what Sandals Church is doing at https://give.sc/ or use the Sandals Church App https://sandalschurch.com/app/

1 Peter. Talk 2. 1 Peter 1:1-2 In our last talk we: Considered the background to the letter and the circumstances in which it was written Took a rapid tour through the whole letter Identified the main theme of the letter - present suffering perhaps, future glory certain Background Author Peter Date 62 to 64 A.D. Circumstances Written to Jewish Christians who had been driven out of Jerusalem and scattered throughout Asia Minor Throughout the Roman Empire Christians were being tortured and killed for their faith and the church in Jerusalem was being scattered throughout the Mediterranean world Peter was probably in Rome when the great persecution and the Emperor Nero began and was eventually executed during this persecution Today we begin to look at the text of the letter by beginning with the opening two verses: NIV 1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God’s elect, exiles, scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, 2 who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance. ESV 1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you. In some ways this is a typical greeting But it’s of special significance relevant to the circumstances in which it was written Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ As we saw last time, Peter was writing to Christians undergoing persecution Note how Peter’s faith has matured since Caesarea Philippi Matt. 16:22 Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you John 21:18-19 Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go." (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, "Follow me." Acts 5:41 Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. To those who are elect (chosen) Note that election is according to God’s foreknowledge See my comments in an earlier podcast on Ephesians 1. But what’s the special relevance of the word chosen in this context? The next word is exiles. What a contrast! They may be exiles - rejects, but they’re elect exiles! All that is happening to them is part of God’s chosen plan for them exiles of the Dispersion The word dispersion (διασπορᾶ) was commonly used to refer to the Jews who were scattered around the world, no longer resident in Israel. Peter now uses it to refer to Christians (who are now God’s chosen people - 2:9-10) It would be easy to understand this negatively, but note the positive aspects of being scattered: The word literally means sown throughout God is scattering his people as seeds throughout the nations and he’s using persecution to do it. Compare Acts 8:1-4, 11:19 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father Of course, this refers primarily to what immediately follows - sanctification, obedience, sprinkling But we’re reminded that God know everything in advance - even our suffering in the sanctification of the Spirit NIV through the sanctifying work of the Spirit To sanctify means to make holy The NT shows sanctification as both a completed act and an ongoing process for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood The Greek literally says: For obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ The purpose of our salvation is obedience The sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ refers to our initial salvation and to God’s provision for the ongoing forgiveness of our sins May grace and peace be multiplied to you This blessing was particularly appropriate to Christians who were suffering It was through the gift of God’s grace and peace that they had been saved But there’s no limit to God’s resources. There’s plenty more grace and peace available. The verses that immediately follow illustrate this wonderfully But that’s our subject for next time

The design of God for humanity—the very purpose of our existence and how we share, enjoy, and multiply his goodness in the world—can be found in the command to love God with all that we are. This is the aim of his grace through Christ in the Spirit: To reorder the disorder of our affections … Continue reading Ordered Affections →

What does it mean to be Poor in Spirit? To understand poverty of Spirit you have to really understand what is meant by the word SPIRIT. Well, first of all Jesus is not referring to the Holy Spirit, but the Human Spirit. You see each individual is comprised of three distinct parts: Body, Soul, and Spirit.

What does it mean to live by the Spirit? To walk by the Spirit? Does that mean that I’m waiting on some mystic power to come reveal itself to me and just go as the mystic spirit directs? Does it mean if my spirit doesn’t want to do something, I am not obligated to do […]
Beholding His Glory ~ Pastor Bill Slabaugh, Grace Baptist Church
Romans 8:5-8 explains why the Lord Jesus sent His Holy Spirit as He promised. This is it in a nutshell: The Holy Spirit is the way that Jesus lives His life in us and through us for His Glory. That’s why Jesus sent His Spirit. This passage of Scripture also answers the question, “What does it mean to walk in the Spirit?” To walk in the Spirit is to live moment by moment in dependency upon Him, sensitive to His voice, and in obedience to Him. To live any other way is to live in rebellion against God and to cut one’s self off from the blessings of God.
