Today's guest possesses creative gifts that expand across all forms and all mediums. Fully fueled by heart and passion, Jasika Nicole is an actor, clothing designer, artist, pottery maker, LGBTQ advocate, writer, and the list doesn't stop there. Committed to pursuing an education in the performing arts, Jasika studied theater throughout her college years before relocating to New York City to follow her dreams of stage acting in New York City. Like many actors, Jasika initially struggled to balance the need for a day job without allowing it to interfere with audition opportunities. Making the decision to focus solely on what she came to New York to do, Jasika left her day job and booked a 3 line role in a Fringe Festival production that led her to get noticed by a producer in the audience - proving that no role is ever too small. After gaining representation, Jasika began to shift her focus to film and television, with the goal of winning the audition room on personality rather than trying to figure out what casting wants. Landing herself on many sets, Jasika describes her time observing those around her as a “crash course in acting.” Even throughout her thriving career, Jasika admits to having moments where she felt herself on the verge of quitting and questioning whether or not she wanted to continue to be an actor. With self compassion, she describes how her other creative passions have been her saving grace, allowing her to find her way back into the love of acting and reminding her that her self worth is not determined by the number of credits on her resume. You've seen her as Dr. Carly Lever in “The Good Doctor,” Agent Astrid Farnsworth in “Fringe,” among other hit projects such as “Scandal”, “Station 19”, “Underground”, “She's Out of My League”, “Take the Lead” and the newly released, “Punky Brewster” reboot now streaming on Peacock. Jasika shows no signs of slowing down and shares the many lessons today that she has learned along the way, including how there are no right or wrongs when it comes to process, tips and tricks on how to bridge performance gaps week to week as a series regular, and the importance of asking yourself whether or not this is a role you truly want to play and if it aligns with the kinds of stories you want to tell. The hosts are putting their “before the show ends” wishlist out into the universe. How we thought the show would end, how we want it to end, and our wishlist for some of the characters that have made it to the seventeenth season of the show. KJ and Faith pitch a New York Grey’s spinoff and KJ finally identifies what Jackson and Maggie had in common. Faith has no time for the show’s newest romantic pairing, and wants to know the backstory of Grey Sloan’s oldest and most mysterious employee. Moira has some strong feelings about how Teddy’s return has gone, and a deep desire to see April Kepner one last time. The hosts collectively enjoy one of the show’s most hated characters, Tom Koracick, and hate one of the show’s long-time characters, Owen Hunt. Grey’s Anatomy might run one more year or ten more years, and either way we’re glad for what we’ve had, and we have some suggestions about what comes next for the medical giant.
On the occasion of our 300th episode, we’re warning you not to defrost your turkey in the dishwasher; thank Dolly for her philanthropy; discuss Santa-in-a-box; Oxford releases its words for the year; Ricky Martin is robbed again; Conan moves to streaming; “Wonder Woman 1984” will stream on opening day; we love ABC’s “Big Sky;” and we chat to Swish’s #1 guest, international drag superstar Sherry Vine, about her “Station 19” and “Supermarket Sweep” episodes; and, oh so much more.
Live Chat with Hollywood Teen Actresses Izabella Alvarez + Talia Jackson hosted by Tony Gapastione Most recently Izabella can be heard voicing the lead spunky character, 'Ronnie Anne Santiago,' in Nickelodeon's "The Casagrandes." The animated series tells the story of 11-year- old Ronnie Anne after she moves to the city with her older brother Bobby and her mom, where they now live with their big, loving multi-generational family, the Casagrandes. By depicting stories based on Mexican-American and Latino themes, "The Casagrandes" is a bridge to Latino culture. And will be seen as lead in the in the upcoming CW's "The Republic of Sarah," currently in production. LA Times writes, "Izabella Alvarez, a Rising Latina Star, commands desperation-ridden scenes with skill and maturity." https://www.instagram.com/izabellaalvarez/ + Talia Jackson has been auditioning since the age of 7 and didn't get her first break until August 2018 when she booked the series regular role of Jade McKellan in Netflix's Family Reunion and Zoe in ABC's Station19. She booked the series regular role of Dusty Gable on ABC/Warner/Berlanti/Diablo Cody pilot Raised by Wolves in 2017 but it didn't get picked up. Talia is also a singer and will release her first single "I'm not Jealous" in July 2019. Talia moved from Wisconsin with her mother and brother to Santa Barbara in February 2009 after a divorce to be near relatives and to pursue her dreams of becoming an actress and singer. For 10 years she auditioned and booked 1 small independent film and a couple of commercials but didn't book a TV role or film that actually aired somewhere. She was close to giving up on her acting career right before she booked a starring role in Family Reunion and Station 19 in the same month. https://www.instagram.com/taliajacksonofficial/ --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bravemaker/support
