West Memphis 3 /// Discussion Part 2 of 2 www.TrueCrimeGarage.comJoin Nic & The Captain in the Garage for a riveting and energy filled discussion about the West Memphis 3 case. This case and True Crime story continues to be one of the more debated cases of the 20th century, even after more than 30 years has passed. Why can't we as a collective community move on from this case? Is it because the case manages to creep its way back into the headlines, over and over again? Or, is it because at the end of the day we are all afraid that we may never know the truth about what happened in Robin Hood Hills, on May 5th, 1993? We are still seeking justice for Steve Branch, Michael Moore, Christopher Byers, and their families. In Arkansas, some people think that a slew of child deaths in the early 1990s are related. Those children are Christina Pipkin, who went missing in May of 1991, Steve Branch, Michael Moore, Christopher Byers, the three eight-year-old boys who were murdered in West Memphis in 1993, and also includes 16-year-old Gardenia Cross Jones and 13-year-old Geneva Smith, whose bodies were both found near Wynne, Arkansas just a few miles from Hickory Ridge shortly after they went missing. After Catherine's investigation into these deaths for a few months, there haven't been any obvious connections among the children in east Arkansas. But there are a lot of weird coincidences in these cases. In three of the four cases, suspects were arrested and ultimately released. All of them were found in or near bodies of water. And all of them are unsolved. If you have a case you'd like Catherine to look into, you can reach out to the Hell and Gone Murder Line at 678-744-6145. By listener request, I am diving back into the world of the West Memphis Three. On May 5, 1993, three eight-year-old boys, Steve Branch, Michael Moore and Christopher Byers went missing. The recovery of their remains from a muddy swamp was captured the following day by cameras from a documentary film crew. What followed was a nightmare for their families, as HBO helped lead the charge to exonerate the three men convicted of the crime. This week we continue to look at the life of Damien Echols in the months leading up to the murder, his stays in mental health clinics, brushes with the law, and more.Merch StoreJoin the Coffee ClubFacebookPlease check out this weeks sponsor:BlendJet 2:Use my special link https://zen.ai/deathcast to save 12% at blendjet.com. The West Memphis Three were three teenagers from West Memphis, Arkansas who were wrongfully accused of killing three boys in an alleged and completely unsubstantiated ritual. On May 5, 1993, Michael Moore, Steve Branch and Christopher Byers were reported missing around 7 p.m. by John Mark Byers, the adoptive father of one of the children. After 8 p.m. the police, neighbors and a search and rescue team canvased the area focusing on the Robin Hood Hills area where the kids were last seen. The next day, around 1:45 p.m., Parole Officer Steve Jones spotted a black shoe floating in a muddy creek in Robin Hood Hills. With another search, they found the three boys' bodies naked and hogtied with their own shoelaces. For show notes go to www.nvusalien.com
Today, I will wrap up the The West Memphis Three case. Part 4 will cover the release on August 19, 2011; Their lives after release and updates on their case as of 2022. Again this case of the tragic demise of 8 year olds: Christopher Byers, Michael Moore, and Steve Branch in May of 1993 still has not received true justice. In this final part I will do my best to chronicle things with the best timeline I could find through my research. This week, for the first time ever, Alex and Clara overlap themes for one week only! They combined the top level of the pyramid with the highly anticipated, requested, and beloved by all, Child Crime month! Clara tells us about the insane allegations against the McMartin Preschool. Alex tells us of the West Memphis 3 which is a crime against 6 boys, Steve Branch, Michael Moore, and Christopher Byers along with Damien Echols, Jesse Misskelley, and Jason Baldwin.
In Episode 11, Kyle and Lisa talk about the May 5, 1993 murders of Christopher Byers, Steve Branch and Michael Moore, in West Memphis, Arkansas. Their bodies were found bound and naked in a ditch in an area known to locals as “Robin Hood Hills,” a patch of woods bordering the boys' subdivision. On June 3, 1993, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, Jr. were arrested after Miskelley confessed to West Memphis detectives. The three were convicted after two separate trials in 1994. Their campaign in the court of public opinion started with Paradise Lost: The Child Murders in Robin Hood Hills and continues today with press releases alleging that the State of Arkansas has an obligation to allow re-testing of DNA evidence. Kyle and I will talk about the evidence against the three killers, their direct appeals and state post-conviction claims and outcomes, the inconclusive DNA testing conducted between 2005 and 2011 and the Alford pleas, which were entered instead of the three killers presenting their allegedly exculpatory evidence at new trial hearings that were set to begin in December, 2011.

In Episode 6, Kyle and Lisa talk about the May 5, 1993 murders of Christopher Byers, Steve Branch and Michael Moore, in West Memphis, Arkansas. Their bodies were found bound and naked in a ditch in an area known to locals as “Robin Hood Hills,” a patch of woods bordering the boys' subdivision. Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, Jr. were arrested in June, 1993 and convicted after two separate trials in 1994. Beginning in 2002, the three began a 9-year saga of DNA testing that ended with inconclusive results and an Alford plea deal proposed by the killers' attorneys in July, 2011. In 2017, podcaster Bob Ruff requested additional DNA testing using MVac, a collection method that had been in use in Utah since 2011. Ruff falsely led viewers to believe that the prosecutor was obligated to grant his request for testing, in spite of his lack of agency or authority on behalf of the killers. When Ruff's efforts proved unsuccessful, Echols' attorneys stepped in to continue the propaganda campaign. Kyle and I will talk about the request for testing by Echols' attorneys and the propaganda campaign that continues with Echols' request for DNA testing made in January, 2022.

Episode 4 - Where do we go from here? Forensic DNA testing has advanced to the point that DNA analysts only need a few cells to produce a profile. Some say 10-12 cells. Could that many viable cells of the killer still be on the shoelaces that were used to tie up the boys? Could that many cells still be on the sticks that were used to shove the boy's clothing into the mud? It's certainly possible and worth a shot. Why not pursue the truth to the end, wherever that may be? Of all those involved with this case, no one has more to lose than Damien. He sat on death row for almost 18 years, yet he is the one who wants this DNA testing to happen. If his DNA is found, he'll lose all of his support. Will it clear his name? Maybe. But isn't that worth a couple of thousand dollars to know for certain? Many believe it is. Best case? The killers DNA is collected and justice for Steve Branch, Michael Moore and Christopher Byers is finally found. Our justice system has become a conveyor line of cases moving through, many without trials and only plea deals, and as many as 10% of the people currently serving in prison may actually be innocent but faced a much longer sentence so took a deal. Don't have the financial resources to hire a decent lawyer? You may very well end up in that situation. The West Memphis 3 is a tragic case in so many ways it's almost difficult to describe, because there are actually two sets of three victims, and then the trauma associated with the victims families and the community continue to this day. The murders happened in 1993 in West Memphis, Arkansas. The first set of victims are three little 8 yr old boys who were murdered, stripped of their clothing, tied up with their own shoelaces and buried beneath the surface of a creek near their neighborhood. Their clothes were also forced under the surface with sticks and tree branches to hide the crime. The second set of three were three teenage young men who were convicted of killing the boys, allegedly committing some form satanic ritual on them in killing them, and hiding their bodies. They served 18 years before they were released but to this day they have not been exonerated and are still considered murderers. We discuss this case w investigator Bob Ruff for a number of reasons. He has a different perspective, he's done extensive research on the case, and he has done a full documentary on the case w Oxygen TV. Bob is also working with the defense to get more evidence tested, possibly with the M-Vac system, in order to collect any possible DNA material from different pieces of evidence. All Things Crime is a new, comprehensive video series that will explore every aspect of crime and the ensuing investigation, one video interview at a time. The host, Jared Bradley, is the President of M-Vac Systems, which is a wet-vacuum based forensic DNA collection system, and has experience traveling the world training all levels of law enforcement and crime lab DNA analysts in using the M-Vac to help solve crime. Along the way he has met people from all walks of life and experience in investigating crimes, so is putting that knowledge to use in another way by sharing it in these podcasts. Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley Jr. and Jason Baldwin, known as the we memphis three, were convicted of the murders. Don't be a defenseless victim in an unfortunate situation! That doesn't necessarily mean carry a firearm. With the proper knowledge and training, you can be effective without reaching for that firearm, even as a smaller framed female. We talked about this and firearms as well with Steve Branch of Mindset Survival. We even talked about the importance of teaching firearm safety to kids and when you should start that. There was so much important info shared! Here are the show notes for Episode 13 "We'll Always Have Paris". The show is called this because both Marna and Martin reminisce about lovely times in the City of Light. Marna just got back from Paris with her son (the one that built his own gaming computer). They discuss what they like to do there. Mainframe Our "Mainframe" topic discusses what has been a popular item since more people have finished migrating to z/OS V2.2: GDGEs. Generation Data Group Extended (GDGEs) were introduced in z/OS V2.2, and should only be used after fully migrated to that release everywhere. "Old" GDGs allow >255 generations. GDGEs allow up to 999, but with a very different internal structure. GDGEs are externally usable transparently. There is no straightforward conversion way in DFSMS. Steve Branch (alias name of "Mr. Catalog") and Marna had a six step JCL job to convert (which used IDCAMS ALTERs), and would work if the generations were SMS-managed, which was the initial use case. Several options were discussed. You can do the conversions for your GDGs to GDGEs, but you need to decide if it's worth it. The TSO/e RENAME will work in all the cases that IDCAMS ALTER would, plus more. The shared REXX exec can be used if you want to convert NON_SMS/TAPE GDGs to GDGEs. Still, if you have a gazillion references in places like JCL, it is a compelling case to take some extra one-time work and do the conversion.Mind the recalls! You'll need a lot of recall space on DASD, if you are recalling lots of data sets and they are large. Performance Martin talked about a presentation he's been keeping updated, Even More Fun With DDF. The original presentation covered: why you should care about DDF, LPAR to Service Class Level views, side themes of zIIP and DB2 address spaces, and a discussion of SMF 101 and DDF. Contains three different customer cases: some basic statistics, a CPU Spike case, and "sloshing". SMF 30 Enclave Statistics graphing Thoughts on handling clients with huge numbers of short commits Matching client and server DB2 101s where DB2 to DB2 DDF Production vs Feral DDF Diagrams of machines connecting to DB2 via DDF The updated presentation has an analysis is done using RMF and SMF 30, and SMF 101 DB2 Accounting Trace, using special code written by Martin. Topics Sites: Martin loves to go to the museums. Especially the Louvre and Beaubourg. Marna's son doesn't like museums, so they visit other spots like the Catacombs (with a four hour wait!) and the gargoyles at Notre Dame./li> Food: Marna and her son focus on cheese, and have become quite adept at all three raclette contraptions available, all ways to scrap cheese onto your plate. Getting around: Martin loves the metro, which is so easy and convenient. He loves the part on the metro when you come out from underground to the raised tracks in some places. Marna did a lot of walking. (Fitbit while at Versailles registered 31k steps = 13. miles = 22 km.) Pro Tips: Use the "skip the line" and make reservations very early. Buy tickets early. Guest: Shaun WheelerMr Wheeler is an expert an blogger on the West Memphis Three murder case. The West Memphis Three are three men who were tried and convicted as teenagers in 1994 of the 1993 murders of three boys in West Memphis, Arkansas. Damien Echols was sentenced to death, Jessie Misskelley, Jr. was sentenced to life imprisonment plus two 20-year sentences, and Jason Baldwin was sentenced to life imprisonment. Mr Wheeler will set the record straight with his encyclopedia knowledge of the actual facts and evidence in this case. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Memphis_ThreeWe will explore many overlooked facts and evidence including a history of Vampirism, satanism and animal abuse, as well as arson and other anti social and violent behaviors of the convicted killers. UPDATE:We just booked Terry Hobbs stepfather of Steve Branch, one of the victims. Terry was recently the subject of a smear campaign on HBO documentary Paradise Lost : Purgatory. This will be Mr Hobbs first opportunity to give a public statement regarding these events. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/1198501/advertisement
