Somehow, someway, the Vancouver Canucks have continued to scrape together wins & points against and find themselves on the precipice of above .500 hockey. To help break what's going on down is Mike Paris, co-host of the Game Time Decision podcast. Mike, Anna, and Chris discuss whether or not the Canucks are truly a "good team" and wonder aloud if Artem Chubarov's car is still stuck under Rogers Arena (really!!). They also spend some time discussing the evolution of the Canucks podcasting landscape and what it's like for aspiring podcasters and content creators to get their start now. Here are the show notes for Episode 13 "We'll Always Have Paris". The show is called this because both Marna and Martin reminisce about lovely times in the City of Light. Marna just got back from Paris with her son (the one that built his own gaming computer). They discuss what they like to do there. Mainframe Our "Mainframe" topic discusses what has been a popular item since more people have finished migrating to z/OS V2.2: GDGEs. Generation Data Group Extended (GDGEs) were introduced in z/OS V2.2, and should only be used after fully migrated to that release everywhere. "Old" GDGs allow >255 generations. GDGEs allow up to 999, but with a very different internal structure. GDGEs are externally usable transparently. There is no straightforward conversion way in DFSMS. Steve Branch (alias name of "Mr. Catalog") and Marna had a six step JCL job to convert (which used IDCAMS ALTERs), and would work if the generations were SMS-managed, which was the initial use case. Several options were discussed. You can do the conversions for your GDGs to GDGEs, but you need to decide if it's worth it. The TSO/e RENAME will work in all the cases that IDCAMS ALTER would, plus more. The shared REXX exec can be used if you want to convert NON_SMS/TAPE GDGs to GDGEs. Still, if you have a gazillion references in places like JCL, it is a compelling case to take some extra one-time work and do the conversion.Mind the recalls! You'll need a lot of recall space on DASD, if you are recalling lots of data sets and they are large. Performance Martin talked about a presentation he's been keeping updated, Even More Fun With DDF. The original presentation covered: why you should care about DDF, LPAR to Service Class Level views, side themes of zIIP and DB2 address spaces, and a discussion of SMF 101 and DDF. Contains three different customer cases: some basic statistics, a CPU Spike case, and "sloshing". SMF 30 Enclave Statistics graphing Thoughts on handling clients with huge numbers of short commits Matching client and server DB2 101s where DB2 to DB2 DDF Production vs Feral DDF Diagrams of machines connecting to DB2 via DDF The updated presentation has an analysis is done using RMF and SMF 30, and SMF 101 DB2 Accounting Trace, using special code written by Martin. Topics Sites: Martin loves to go to the museums. Especially the Louvre and Beaubourg. Marna's son doesn't like museums, so they visit other spots like the Catacombs (with a four hour wait!) and the gargoyles at Notre Dame./li> Food: Marna and her son focus on cheese, and have become quite adept at all three raclette contraptions available, all ways to scrap cheese onto your plate. Getting around: Martin loves the metro, which is so easy and convenient. He loves the part on the metro when you come out from underground to the raised tracks in some places. Marna did a lot of walking. (Fitbit while at Versailles registered 31k steps = 13. miles = 22 km.) Pro Tips: Use the "skip the line" and make reservations very early. Buy tickets early. Contacting Us You can reach Marna on Twitter as mwalle and by email. You can reach Martin on Twitter as martinpacker and by email and blogs at blog.

Star Trek TNG S1E24 We'll Always Have Paris
BackTrekking returns again to look back at the real-world inspirations of classic Trek episodes in an episode chosen by you! Some works of art are unassailable in their perfection . . . the Sistine Chapel, the Starry Night, the KFC Double Down. Criticism of them goes beyond merely evaluating their construction and extends instead into the effect they've had on society and culture itself. If theater is life, cinema is art, and television is furniture, the movie "Casablanca" would undoubtedly be film's Mona Lisa or, at the very least, Sunflowers. The question, "Is it good?", has been answered by time. The question, "Is it still relevant?", is possibly apter; it is, after all, nearly 80 years old. But the positive evidence of the film's endurance is present in its countless cultural homages and its familiarity to people who have never even sat through it.On its surface, the desperate and war-weary world of "Casablanca" doesn't look much like the world of Star Trek. DS9, maybe, but certainly not TNG. The titular city of the film (and real-life WWII) is haunted by a panoply of refugees, displaced by the war and by the Nazis who move among them, discussing over drinks who to conquer next. It's a city divided between the hopeful and those who sell hope at the market price. Where the characters of Star Trek are noble and uncompromising, Casablanca's heroes live ignobly, victims of despair and their own convictions.Star Trek embodies humanity's aspirations, but films like "Casablanca" remind us of the cruel realities of war and the acts of both injustice and heroism that happen in every century. We go all-out again this week in an episode almost as long as the war itself, comparing "Casablanca" with TNG's take on the classic film, "We'll Always Have Paris". During the episode, we discuss the film's modern pace and sensibility, its origins as a stage play, how Michael Curtiz was the Spielberg of his day, the living world of Casablanca, making all the right choices, the problem with pure characters, and the personal stakes of the film's immigrant cast. We also talk playing chess with yourself, escaping Nazis just to play them in movies, the questionable lyrics of La Marseillaise, sketchy Tinder, getting "The Contest" past the censors, Barb Wire "doing a 'Casablanca'", passionate towel whacking, menus of the future, Kal's ready to protest The Irishman, and Gooey just wants to make peace! This one's for you, Low IQ Canadian!Join us in the Just Enough Trope Discord!https://discord.gg/EAx5VGXTweet at the show or your hosts with your suggestions for future episodes!http://www.twitter.com/backtrekkinghttp://www.twitter.com/ka1ibanhttp://www.twitter.com/gooeyfameCheck out the other shows on the Just Enough Trope network!http://www.justenoughtrope.comTheme: Disco Medusae Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

I do kinda wanna see monthly issues of “Time and Bull****” now. I'd expect articles like, ‘This Android Just Disproved Scientific Consensus…Again,' ‘Telepathy: What the Hell, Man?' and ‘Lecture Series – Would You Rather: Jim Kirk's Career or Introductory Temporal Mechanics.' There's a single diamond in this rough that's a flaw in Picard's self-image and this episode could not care less about it. I'm furious about a missed opportunity to deconstruct Jean-Luc Picard. The fencing thing Derek is referencing is–I think–Choi vs Baldini in 2012.
Engage!

Mike and Ben step into a holodeck recreation of a cafe in Paris this week to take a look at this season one episode where instead of looking at the fascinating possibilities of the multiverse, we spend an hour talking about one of Picard's lost loves. In April 2016 nearly 200 countries including the US and China signed the Paris Climate Accord. But that was then. Trump came to office and backed out of the deal. Well, It's happened...we get to meet Picard's old girlfriend. Is she the hotwife of a dying scientist? How is data going to save more than 9 with a stitch in time? This episode is a lot of fun on paper but just terrible when you watch it. So watch it along with us and have some laughs!
The gang travels the galaxy, from Paris to Jansenn (the famed diamond planet), in this week's episode where we watched "We'll Always Have Paris." We tackle the tough questions like: What would you do with a holodeck, what future fashion do you want to wear, and how long would we be able to stand each other while crammed into a space capsule. Alex has to explain man-tits, Cameron refuses to give Alex the code to the airlock, and Marcy can't actually remember Paris. Plus an informative and tangent-inducing game of Sexo-Planets! All this and more in this week's episode of Green Shirt. Make it so!

Paris did not disappoint! Arie dramatically narrows his field of lovers down, in the city of love. Eddie gets emotional about the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Championship (0:00-6:00). Treks and the City with Alice Wetterlund and Veronica Osorio
IT'S A CHILL UTOPIA... Alice & Veronica welcome actor/comedian Bjrn Gustafsson (aka "the Dane Cook of Sweden," aka Alice's TV love interest) onto the podcast, ask him to summarize "We'll Always Have Paris" from S1 of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and end up pleasantly surprised by the results. Plus they talk space Paris, internet Star Trek videos, Picard missing social cues, and all that non-Star Trek life and relationship content that you crave!!!SUPPORT TREKS AND THE CITY ON PATREON:www.patreon.com/treksandthecityFOLLOW TREKS AND THE CITY:https://www.instagram.com/treksandthecityhttps://www.twitter.com/treksandthecityTREKS AND THE CITY IS A FOREVER DOG PODCASThttps://foreverdogpodcasts.com/podcasts/treks-and-the-cityTreks and the City Theme Song by Matt Rubano
Hailing Frequencies: A Star Trek - The Next Generation Podcast
EDIT: Reuploaded due to a time distortion in the last upload! Ah, Paris. The Eiffel Tower. The Champs-Elysees. The Jetsons-style tubes and flying cars. The Enterprise meets Casablanca this week on Hailing Frequencies. When an old flame reaches out for help, Picard is faced with the repercussions of a decision made in a Paris cafe long ago. Also some time distortion stuff is thrown in that does not make any sense at all. And find out how Facebook will be the backbone of the Holodeck. "We'll Always Have Paris"...or at least a holodeck simulation as Ensign Harry and Lt. Cmdrs. Mike G. and Matt H. cover Season 1, Episode 24 of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Enjoy! Picard gets a visit from an old flame in an episode which seems to Matt and Andy like it was written through a game of telephone - which it turns out, it was.
Darlene McDonald is running to replace Mia Love in Utah's 4th Congressional District. She tells us how she came to Utah from Ohio and went from food stamps to a successful businesswoman. She's both the conservative ideal of the American Dream and proof of liberal arguments that social programs help people climb out of poverty. Plus, she's a fun guest! We point out that Mormon doctrine says some pretty progressive things about the environment and ask why it doesn't come across in Utah's politics. Plus, Romney Republicans: who are they? Can Democrats win them over? Should they? Just a reminder to always ask for "extra olives" when ordering pizza at Papa Johns. Listen to the end to find out why...

Unsung Episodes: Season 1. Every season of The Next Generation has episodes that get overlooked or ignored. Well, not here and not today. Most fans will quickly identify "Encounter at Farpoint" as being their favorite episode from season one. So, if we set that one aside, which other episodes should we celebrate and recognize from this introductory season? In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Lee Hutchison, Richard Marquez, and Amy Nelson list their three unsung episodes from season one. Each host puts up a good defense on why their chosen episodes should be among the fan favorites or at least viewed with a fresh perspective devoid of preconceived perceptions. Unsung Episodes is a series that will continue through 2017 highlighting each season in honor of the thirty-year anniversary of TNG. Standard Orbit 143: Right Click, Word Replacement TNG as TOS. The early seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation get a bad rep, and are often criticized as feeling like an "extension of TOS" or "1960s TV in the 1980s." Right or wrong, good or bad, in this episode of Standard Orbit, Ken and Zach discuss a handful of season one TNG adventures that feel more at home on Kirk's Enterprise than Picard's. The Naked Now, on TOS as originally planned? Angel One, would it be too progressive for the late 1960s? Too Short a Season, is it generic enough for any series? We'll Always Have Paris becoming I Left My Heart In San Francisco? We have a fun time pondering what these episodes could become with just a few uses of the word replacement tool. Time Travel.Time travel and Star Trek go hand-in-glove, so it was no surprise that The Next Generation crew had several "timey-wimey" adventures in its seven years on television and in the feature films. Darren, Daniel, and Phillip go "OUTATIME" in this episode, exploring episodes including "Timescape," "Cause and Effect," "Time Squared," "Time's Arrow, Parts 1 and 2," and Star Trek: First Contact. The Earl Grey trio break down all the times Captain Jean-Luc Picard would have been visited by the laugh-a-minute members of the Federation's Temporal Investigations unit with TNG's experiences with time loops, temporal anomalies, and Q's TARDIS-like powers. Prepare to experience a "Quantum Leap" of traveling across the space-time continuum with the Enterprise-D 's "Excellent Adventure" as they try to avoid predestination-paradoxes, and enjoy this episode about TNG and time travel.HostsDaniel Proulx, Phillip Gilfus, & Darren MoserEditor / ProducerDarren Moser Production Manager Richard Marquez Content Manager Will Nguyen Chapters Cause and Effect (00:02:07)Time Squared (00:05:07)We'll Always Have Paris (00:10:21)Yesterday's Enterprise (00:15:26)2 (00:22:25) Times Arrow (00:24:21)First Contact (00:29:15)All Good Things (00:34:52)3 (00:39:38) Timescape (00:41:22)Captains Holiday (00:47:03) Star Trek: Interactive VCR Board Game / A Klingon Challenge (00:48:13)A Matter of Time (00:50:24)Tapestry (00:51:49)Firstborn (00:52:58)4 (00:55:03)Final Thoughts (00:56:22)Closing (01:01:37) Send us your feedback! Picard's Romances. One of the first differences viewers noticed between Captain Picard and his legendary predecessor was his attitude towards love. While not as famous as Kirk's, Picard himself has an interesting and varied history with romance. In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Phillip Gilfus, Darren Moser, and Daniel Proulx talk all things love as it relates to Jean Luc Picard. From his early relationships before the show even started, in episodes like "Tapestry" and "We'll Always Have Paris," to alternate future marriages with Beverly Crusher—and all flings in between—this week's cup of Earl Grey is extra hot.
It's Mr. Hollywood's "Oscar Preview Special" featuring Mr. H's expert picks on the main categories plus some bonus predictions, a re-creation of the "goodbye" scene from Casablanca with a modern twist, James Cromwell talking about his 'acting method' and much more!
On this special holiday episode of Trekabout, we celebrate the death of Tasha Yar… wait, that’s not right. “Skin of Evil” isn’t that great, but it’s at least audacious, unlike “We’ll Always Have Paris”, which, uh… is an episode. Plus! Richard compares Armus to Trelane. Richard has never seen Star Trek before. iTunes Google Play ...
