A Tale of Resistance... Based on a Real Story  Hannah longs for the days when she used to be free, but now, she is a Jewish prisoner at Theresienstadt, a model ghetto where the Nazis plan to make a propaganda film to convince the world that the Jewish people are living well in the camps. But Hannah will do anything to show the world the truth. Along with other young resistance members, they vow to disrupt the filming and derail the increasingly frequent deportations to death camps in the east. From the author of Cradles of the Reich comes a poignant and inspiring tale about resistance, friendship, and the dangers of propaganda, based on the real story of the Nazi "show camp" Theresienstadt. Jennifer Coburn is a celebrated historical fiction author. Her latest book, The Girls of the Glimmer Factory, is an illuminating tale of resistance and the dangers of propaganda. Her other novel, Cradles of the Reich, is a historical novel about three very different women living at a Nazi Lebensborn at the start of World War ll. She has also published a mother-daughter travel memoir, We'll Always Have Paris, as well as six contemporary women's novels. She has also contributed to five literary anthologies, including A Paris All Your Own. Jennifer lives in San Diego. When Jennifer is not going down historical research rabbit holes, she volunteers with So Say We All, a live storytelling organization, where she is a performer, producer, and performance coach. She is also an active volunteer with Reality Changers, a nonprofit that supports low-income high school students in becoming the first in their families to attend college. Interviewer Jane R. Wood is the author of six award-winning juvenile fiction books where she weaves history and science into stories filled with mystery, adventure, and humor for young readers ages 8-14. She has also written a nonfiction How-To book for authors called Schools: A Niche Market for Authors. (All of her books are available at Jacksonville Public Library.) Wood is a former teacher, newspaper reporter, and television producer, who often speaks at book festivals, conferences for writers and publishers, podcasts, webinars, and at education conferences. Wood has a BA from the University of Florida and an M.Ed from the University of North Florida. She is the past-president of the Florida Authors and Publishers Association and lives in Jacksonville. We had the pleasure of interviewing Capstan over Zoom video! To make a mosaic, tiny pieces interlock as a larger picture. In similar fashion, distinct elements coalesce as one in Capstan. The Florida quintet—Anthony Demario [vocals], Joe Mabry [guitar], Harrison Borman [guitar], Andrew “Boz” Bozymowski [bass, vocals], and Scott Fisher [drums]—merge metallic precision with pit-splitting hardcore grooves and the kind of hooks you can't shake. After amassing tens of millions of streams and earning acclaim from the likes of KERRANG! and many more, the group paint a definitive body of work on their aptly titled third full-length offering, The Mosaic [Fearless Records].  Since 2015, Capstan have progressed with each subsequent move. Following Seasonal Depression [2015] and  In The Wake of  Our Discord [2018], they made waves with their full-length debut, Restless Heart, Keep Running, in 2019. Among many standouts, “Stars Before The Sun” racked up over 5.1 million Spotify streams followed by “We'll Always Have Paris” with 2.5 million Spotify streams. 2021 saw them level up again with Separate. Right out of the gate, KERRANG! rated it “4-out-of-5 stars” and proclaimed, “This is Capstan at full strength and it's a second outing to be proud of.” They toured with the likes of Trash Boat, Doll Skin, Silverstein, and many more.  This time around, the boys opted to self-produce, engineer, and record what would become The Mosaic. At the same time, they collectively absorbed the spirit of a more optimistic season. As with any mosaic worth pondering, this one might just leave you uplifted. We want to hear from you! Tread Perilously's Failed Prestige month takes an unscheduled trip on Pan Am for the episode called "We'll Always Have Paris." Kate's first trip to Paris is filled with excitement and terror as her mother decides to book a seat on the flight. Also, her CIA handler wants her to deliver a package to a courier in the city. Meanwhile, Laura has reasons of her own to avoid her mother, Dean continues his search for Bridget while maybe starting something with Colette, and Maggie's choice to defend herself leads to Ted trying -- and failing -- to be her white knight. Erik uses the wrong microphone and discovers the scheduled show for the week, Vinyl, is currently unavailable. Justin finds the spy plot to be the most laughable and declares that Pan Am fails in a very special way. The pair try to find a better role for star Kelli Garner. Christina Ricci remains a Tread Perilously favorite, though. Margot Robbie also proves a welcome presence even if she fails the "zoo" vocal test. The male cast, however, prompts many notes and replacement suggestions. "Can you sell Pan Am to China?" becomes the new philosophical question of the age and the cynical edge of the show becomes a key point of discussion.

Today, however, Americans aren't waiting for the afterlife; they're seizing the opportunity amidst historically low 4% interest rates to invest in the romance and culture of Paris. In this episode, we'll dive into key facets of the French real estate landscape: 1.     Size Matters: Discover why the French real estate market is smaller than you might think and what that means for investors. 2.     The Opaque Industry: Learn about the inherent opaqueness of the French real estate industry. With no addresses on ads and limited reliable research options without an agent, understanding the market requires expertise. 3.     Financing Challenges: Explore how financing in France operates at lower rates but based on criteria that Americans might find challenging. 4.     French Castles: Delve into the market for French castles, where the demand for projects has seen a decrease of 8% in a market that consistently rises by 6% year over year. 5.     New Construction: Uncover the world of new construction in France. Unlike the bustling scenes of New York and London, there's less of it in Paris, and this trend isn't expected to change. We'll also take a close look at a unique project converting an old Renault garage into something extraordinary. Join our esteemed guests, Alison Ashby and Roddy Aris, as we navigate the intriguing French real estate landscape on Boroughs & Burbs. Whether you're dreaming of a pied-à-terre in the City of Light or curious about the nuances of the market, this episode promises to illuminate the path to success in French real estate.

PLAY IT AGAIN? Captain Picard comes to the rescue of a woman he ghosted! Will it be awkward? Chill? A chance to do it all over again? Bryan and Kristen relive some of the worst that eighties TV had to offer as Patrick Stewart and Michelle Phillips act out trite melodrama in a story that deals with some cultural detritus that has been (seemingly) left behind in the 20th century -- you don't see too many naked ripoffs of Casablanca these days! There's also some stuff about a time fart in here that fails to inspire when it's not a little confusing; but, does Michelle Phillips' experience with people tripping on acid help her performance in this one and does the science fiction B-plot entertain just enough? If you've been enjoying the show, consider rating and reviewing us on Apple Podcasts, in the Spotify app, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Welcome to Watchers of Tomorrow! A podcast where we go through the world of science fiction television episode by episode, talking about the themes, concepts, ideas, the good, the bad, and the weird. We are great fans of sci-fi and would like to invite you on our journey through the funky and strange worlds that we are to explore…   Today's episode: We got the first TNG mucking with time episode. Not quite full-on time travel, unless you count a trip to the holodeck for a wistful Picard, but certainly time quirkiness. But why all the mayhem? Manheim, that's why! Today my guest is Jennifer Coburn, author of We'll Always Have Paris, Reinventing Mona and a number of other entertaining, light-ish books. She learned about the Lebensborn Program and was compelled to learn more and share. This was a program created in 1935 to be the wellspring of future generations descended from those Nazi authorities deemed “racially valuable.” They bred kids with SS soldiers and women “volunteers.” They also stole babies from other countries that fit the mold. It is an appalling, true look into history from the perspective of three fictional women. It is kind of Handmaids Tale meets Swing Kids meets Sound of Music – without the music. Her dedication to detail is immersive and impressive.

When I was in college, I studied psychology because I was fascinated by the mind-body connection. I wanted to understand what made people tick and why they do what they do. My guest today had a similar curiosity into the human condition, although went about indulging it differently—by studying anthropology. Juliette Blackwell is the New York Times bestselling author of Off the Wild Coast of Brittany and The Vineyards of Champagne. In addition to writing the beloved Witchcraft Mystery series and the Haunted Home Renovation series, she also coauthored the Agatha Award–nominated Art Lover's Mystery series with her sister. She joined me to talk about her latest book, The Paris Showroom, which takes place during World War II. What's the true story that sparked the idea for this book? What role does observation play in Juliet's writing process? What is her fascination with haunted houses? Listen in to today's episode for the answers to these questions plus learn my link to WWII era France. As a teaser, it has something to do with Anthony Fauci!
