Driving Kia's EV6 SUV today. The Kia EV6 comes in four models. I drove the EV6GT-line dual motor all-wheel-drive at $87,590 – powered by a 77.4kWh battery theGT-line with two electric motors and weighing 100 kilos heavier to the rear drivemodels provides 239kW and 605Nm of torque. Delivering a driving range of484km which I found most accurate with a mix of urban and country driving.Energy consumption varied and ran from around 15kWh/100km to18.5kWh/100km. Charging, on a standard 7kW home charger around 71/2 hours,on a 350kW fast charger if you can find one not in use around 20 minutes. The KiaEV6 styling a standout, sharp edge styling that gives it a premium feel and in myeyes it's the best-looking EV on the market. Large well shod 20-inch alloy wheelsare tucked right into the body's corners provide a very roomy interior with greatseats. Despite an impressive dash and instrumentation, the interior is somewhatbland in terms of finishes. Premium specified however with all the driving aidsand safety elements and Kia's 7-year/unlimited kilometre warranty. The driveexperience of the Kia EV6 GT-line will impress most drivers. More drive details inmy next segment. I'm David BerthonSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Shoot us a Text.We are rounding down a week of east coast travel here on the last day of the NAMAD Annual Membership Meeting. Today we are looking at Ford's recently announced change in their EV plans and how EVs may not be slowing down as much as some sources may say.Show Notes with links:Ford is adjusting its electrification plans, canceling its long-planned three-row electric crossovers and delaying the next-generation full-size electric pickup by 18 months. The automaker will now focus on a family of hybrid three-row crossovers.Ford's changes could result in up to $1.9 billion in costs, including a $400 million noncash charge related to the cancellation of the crossover.CFO John Lawler: "We looked where the segment was evolving, the amount of competition, the customer needs, and then, the size of the battery that needs to go in a pure EV, the cost structure, the pricing, We could not put together a vehicle that met our requirements to be profitable in the first 12 months of launch."The next-gen full-size electric pickup's launch has been pushed to late 2027.Moving forward, Lawler said EVs would represent roughly 30 percent of Ford's capital expenditure, down from a planned 40 percent.Despite talks of an EV slowdown, the U.S. market saw record-breaking sales in Q2 2024, with 18 electric models surpassing 5,000 units sold. Tesla, Ford, and Hyundai lead, but newcomers are gaining ground.EV sales hit a record 320,463 units in Q2, up 11% from last year and 23% from Q1.The 18 models that sold 5K units: Tesla Model Y, Model 3, Model X and Cybertruck; Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning; Hyundai IONIQ 5; Toyota bZ4X; Rivian R1S; Cadillac Lyriq; BMW i4; Kia EV6, EV9, and Niro; Chevrolet Blazer EV; Volkswagen ID.4; Mercedes EQE; and Nissan Ariya. As we previously reported, Tesla's market share dipped below 50% for the first time, now at 49.7%, and Hyundai Motor Group (including Kia and Genesis) claimed 10% of the U.S. EV market, outperforming Ford (7.4%) and GM (6.3%)Stephanie Valdez Streaty, Cox Automotive Industry Insights Director said: “Automakers that deliver the right product at the right price and offer an excellent consumer experience will lead the way in EV adoption.”Chick-Fil-A is stepping into the entertainment arena with plans to launch its own streaming service, focusing on family-friendly content. Driving Ford's Mustang Mach-E electric SUV – by using the iconic Mustang name Ford wanted to position their first electric offering, and apart from the prominent badge on the nose there is no other likeness. The Ford Mustang Mach-E arrived here mid last year, but has been price reduced twice, and despite the reductions it's been slow to move since just 388 sold July year to date – I tested the mid- spec rear drive Premium Mach-E at $79,990 around $88,700 on road – rather expensive, the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Polestar 2 and Kia EV6 all undercutting it on price. Having said that I found it an impressive EV in a coupe style body with interesting push button door latches, highly spec'd with a panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, a fabulous 15.5-inch touchscreen and top- notch artificial leather power seats. The driving experience hard to fault although the ride can at times be a little harsh due to the large 91 kWh battery – all up- weight topping 2098 kilos. But still offering a 0 to 100 km time of 6.2 seconds – The Ford Mustang Mach-E premium not a sporty SUV, certainly competent, best described as a very comfortable, quiet cruiser with relaxed steering but by no means a Mustang. Just another EV Monday! The weekend was a bit light for automotive news, but GM is bringing back the Blazer EV, Rivian handed out Steve Jobs style surprises, and Marques Brownlee threw shade on the Ocean.General Motors reignites the electric vehicle (EV) market by resuming Chevrolet Blazer EV sales at reduced prices, addressing past software glitches with significant updates and improvements.GM halted Chevrolet Blazer EV sales in December due to infotainment and fast charging issues, but now confidently resumes with software enhancements and a price cut.The updates include new features like customizable ambient lighting and a battery percentage display, with existing owners needing dealership visits for software upgrades.Despite not pinpointing a singular fault, GM emphasizes improved quality testing and software processes to avoid future issues.Price reductions across various Blazer EV trims aim to boost sales, alongside eligibility for a $7,500 federal tax credit.EV startup Fisker faces backlash after a failed attempt to mitigate criticism from tech reviewer Marques Brownlee, exposing deeper financial woes.Marques Brownlee's scathing review of Fisker's Ocean SUV has gone viral, amassing over 4.3 million views for highlighting numerous design and software issues.Brownlee originally asked Fisker for a vehicle, but they kept delaying, resulting in the Youtuber borrowing a vehicle from J&S Mitsubishi. The EV maker asked Brownlee to wait until the car could receive the 2.0 software update, but he declined."It's not really in my policy to wait on promised future software updates,'" Brownlee said in the YouTube video. "I'm going to review the car that's out now, that real buyers are actually living with." The title of the video is “This is the Worst Car I've Ever Reviewed.”A supposed senior Fisker engineer's call to the dealership loaning Brownlee the car backfired, with a recording by the dealership revealing software problems persist post-update, attracting 3.6+ million views on TikTok.Amidst the PR disaster, Fisker announces financial instability, casting doubt on the company's future viability.Channeling their inner Steve Jobs, Rivian had “one more thing” during its R2 reveal event. The EV maker introduced the R3 and R3X, a sportier and slightly shorter electric SUV than the R2, catching the audience by surprise. Rivian's approach to the R3 showcases a strategic expansion of its electric vehicle lineup, emphasizing design, performance, and affordability. The R3 aims to offer a more compact package than the R2, targeting a lower price point than the $45K R2, though specifics were not immediately disclosed. With a sleek design featuring sloping rear ends, the R3 and R3X promise over 300 miles of range and rapid acceleration, positioning them as direct competitors to Korean EVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion

This episode is a great discussion coming from a question submitted by our producer Jake: what is the modern equivalent of the Mercedes W201 190E? == This episode of “The Carmudgeon Show” is presented by Valentine One Radar Locator: Find radar before it finds you! https://bit.ly/Valentine1_Hagerty Click here to join the Hagerty Driver's Club: https://bit.ly/Join-HDC-Cammisa-ICONS == Jason and Derek try to come up with a list of 5 Cars That Are Significant Like the W201 was. The first question is what made that old Mercedes so special. The criteria are: Technical Innovation. Moving Into a New Market. Meaningful Change to the Industry. Democratizing Features Previously Not Part of a Segment With bonus points for: Motorsport Heritage Design Then, it becomes so much more. And possibly includes the Hyundai/Kia triplets: Hyundai Ioniq 5, Genesis GV60, and Kia EV6. The 1992 Toyota Camry. The answer lies somewhere between Tesla's Model 3, the Porsche Cayenne, the Toyota Prius, and the Lexus LS400. === Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

[As hosts Jack Nerad and Chris Teague take Labor Day weekend off, this is the repeat of a popular episode that originally aired in July. Jack and Chris will be back with an all-new episode next week.] While many claim the future is electric, statistics indicate the present day is ICE. Further evidence of that came this week with reports that inventories of newly introduced electric vehicles are piling up on dealer lots and in manufacturer inventories. While this is a cloud for many in the industry, it might represent a silver lining for all those who have been hankering for an electric vehicle, but either couldn't find one at all or were unwilling to pay well beyond the suggested list price to get one. So this could be an excellent time to buy a Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck, a Ford Mustang Mach-E crossover, a Kia EV6 small utility, a Lucid Air luxury sedan, or a Cadillac Lyriq SUV, among many others. While, according to Experian data, EV registrations rose 68 percent in the January-to-May timeframe, some vehicles that were in short supply last year are much more available right now. EVs have risen from four percent market share in 2022 to seven percent share now, but the influx of new electric models could be flooding the marketplace with more choices than carbuyers can process. How do Americans feel about electric cars? A lot of people have opinions, but J.D. Power has data from real consumers. And our special guest this week, Stewart Stropp, executive director of EV intelligence at J.D. Power will tell all about it in his interview with Host Jack Nerad. In the road test segment, Host Jack Nerad will evaluate the pluses and minuses of the Infiniti QX80 full-size luxury SUV. The QX80 isn't the freshest vehicle in the segment, but it checks most of the boxes a luxury SUV needs to check. And compared to others in the class, it could be an excellent buy. Co-Host Chris Teague will test another three-row SUV this week, the 2023 Hyundai Palisade. The likable midsize crossover SUV has been a popular choice since its introduction as a 2021 model, and it's even better for 2023. Self-driving cars have always seemed to be about 10 years away, but we might be getting closer if the National Highway Traffic Administration rules favorably on a request from General Motors. The Detroit-based automaker has asked to be allowed to test its self-driving technology on public roads, and now it is waiting for an answer. NHTSA says that a ruling might be forthcoming soon, and we'll have the details. Fans of big SUVs — and that's most Americans — will be happy to learn that Volvo has just introduced a battery-electric three-row, seven-seat vehicle. We'll give you the details on the 2024 Volvo EX90 later in this segment. All that and much, much more will be there for you in this edition of America on the Road. America on the Road is brought to you by Driving Today.com, Mercury Insurance, YourTestDriver.com, and EMLandsea.com , the publisher of Nerad's latest book, Dance in the Dark, which is available HERE on Amazon.com
The Kia EV6's been around for a couple of years, with its debut taking place a couple of years ago. In fact, we've already taken the EV6 through the Quick Spin wringer a year ago. Well, if the base-power EV6 doesn't cut the mustard, Kia's has a battery-electric hot rod in its stable. Dubbed the Kia EV6 GT, this GT variant does share most of the sheet metal with its more pedestrian sibling but does have different front and rear fascias. More importantly, the EV6 GT sends 577 hp to the wheels with a pair of electric motors. This dual-motor GT comes standard with all-wheel drive because of the front- and rear-mounted electric motors. The EV6 GT shares the battery with its less powerful counterpart, which does affect your real-world range, and offers the least amount of range in the lineup. Though, the brutal acceleration might make up for the lack of range. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's executive editor Tom Murphy hops behind the wheel of this Kia and puts it through its paces. Murphy takes you on a tour of the EV6 GT and highlights some of his favorite features before taking you along on a live drive review. Adding to that, Murphy chats with host Wesley Wren about the 2023 Kia EV6 GT, its performance and its space in the market. Closing the show, the pair breakdown what makes the EV6 GT special.

The all-electric Nissan Ariya is a big leap forward from it's first EV, the LEAF. Competing with Tesla Model Y, Mustang Mach-E, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Volkswagen ID.4, Ariya has something they lack- e-4ORCE. It's not an algebra formula. The dual-motor, all-wheel drive e-4ORCE system uses torque vectoring, rear-wheel recuperation independent from the front, and a bunch of other dynamics to tame body movements. It offers a more comfortable ride quality and helps reduce motion sickness in passengers too. Tom Voelk travels to Sonoma County in California to drive an AWD Ariya Platinum+ and check out the new Pro Pilot Assist 2.0 handsfree driving system. Here's a link to the “e-4ORCE Explained” video- https://youtu.be/NlQMXqgWzBI
