Ep. 383: Oliver Laxe on Sirat Welcome to The Last Thing I Saw, with your host, Nicolas Rapold. In Sirat, director Oliver Laxe tells the story of a father searching for his daughter with his young son's help. But the milieu isn't what one might expect: a desert rave scene in an unidentified country in a world plunged into disarray and war. Premiered in Cannes last year and still in U.S. cinemas, Sirat's visceral, spiritual journey joins together the father (Sergi Lopez) with a motley crew of ravers rumbling into the desert and running into a tragedy that tends to catch audiences off guard. I spoke with Laxe recently about the film, which is nominated for the Academy Award for Best International Feature alongside It Was Just an Accident (directed by Jafar Panahi), The Secret Agent (Kleber Mendonca Filho), Sentimental Value (Joachim Trier), and The Voice of Hind Rajab (Kaouther Ben Hania). This week we're excited to present a conversation from the 63rd New York Film Festival between filmmakers Oliver Laxe and Ben Rivers, moderated by NYFF programming advisor Antoine Thirion. Oliver Laxe's Sirat returns to Film at Lincoln Center for a theatrical engagement beginning next Thursday, February 5th. Get tickets at filmlinc.org/sirat. On top of sharing an enthusiasm for mystery, the elements, and utopias, Ben Rivers and Oliver Laxe also shared a producer and a shooting location on their latest films. Rivers's Mare's Nest and Laxe's Sirât are both apocalyptic road movies; the first follows a child through a variety of haunted landscapes in Spain and the United Kingdom, while the second follows a man, his young son, and a motley group of ravers as they try to find their way out of a besieged desert on the borderlands of Morocco, near Spain. Each film is a radical enigma that invites spectators to engage with cinema sensorially. NYFF was pleased to welcome Laxe and Rivers for a wide-ranging conversation about the making of their new films and their intersecting artistic and thematic preoccupations. Llega el viernes y con él la actualidad de Cuerpos especiales. Sirat recibe dos nominaciones a los Óscar (Mejor película internacional y Mejor sonido) y The Sinners se convierte en la más nominada de la historia con 16 nominaciones. Por otro lado, la jueza envía a juicio al Real Madrid por los conciertos en el Bernabéu en 2024.
La mezcladora de sonido oscense ha sido nominada al Oscar por su trabajo en Sirat, junto a Laia Casanovas y Amanda Villavieja, en el primer equipo íntegramente femenino que compite en esta categoría. La película, que también opta a Mejor Película Internacional, culmina un recorrido brillante tras su paso por Cannes, los Premios del Cine Europeo y los Goya. Parte del rodaje se realizó en Teruel y los premios se entregan el 16 de marzo.
La semana pasada conocíamos los nominados a los Goya, este jueves estuvimos muy pendientes de uno de los momentos más importantes del año para muchas celebridades, los nominados a los Oscar y entre ellas una película que esta semana llega a la cartelera Hamnet, de Chloé Zhao un drama íntimo sobre el amor, la maternidad y el duelo, también pendientes de Sirat y su director Oliver Laxe. Este fin de semana en Pontevedra se celebra la edición número 13 de los premios Feroz, con nosotros está la actriz madrileña Marta Fernández-Muro, Premio de Honor. Sin Piedad es la nueva película del ruso Timur Bekmambetov, un thriller de ciencia ficción, ambientado en un futuro no muy lejano con la IA como protagonista junto a Chris Pratt, con el que ha estado José Fernández."Antonio, el bailarín de España" es el título del documental firmado por Paco Ortiz que recorre la vida, la obra y el legado, de este grande de la danza, con su director charlamos de cómo dar vida a un personaje que muchos han olvidado. Ángeles González Sinde se detiene en Arco, la película de animación europea con un recorrido muy interesante por premios y festivales y que apuesta más por las emociones que la aventura y nuestros pequeños críticos nos comentan El secreto del Herrerillo, la encantadora ópera prima de Antoine Lanciaux. Todo esto además del resto de la cartelera con títulos como Return to silent hill, la leyenda de Ochi y la virgen de la Tosquera, las mejores series con Pedro Calvo y las secciones habituales.Escuchar audio
