Please follow us on: Instagram or Facebook ! If you enjoy our podcast please leave a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, Grazie Mille! In this episode, Kimberly and Tommaso celebrate five years and 210 episodes of their podcast. They reflect on their journey and share a two-day adventure in Rome, exploring hidden gems and unique experiences off the usual tourist path. Key Points: Five Years of Kimberly's Italy: Kimberly and Tommaso mark the fifth anniversary of their first episode, launched on April 13, 2021. They recall starting the podcast during COVID, with Tommaso convincing Kimberly to overcome her initial hesitations about her voice. The most rewarding aspect has been connecting with listeners globally, who share their appreciation for the episodes. Important Travel Updates: The EES Situation Kimberly shares recent experiences with the EU's Entry-Exit System (EES), noting it is slow and chaotic at most airports. She advises adding 45 minutes to an hour to estimated arrival times and avoiding connections in Schengen countries less than two hours apart. Tommaso recounts an incident at Linate Airport where 100 passengers missed their flight due to EES delays. Navigating Rome Off the Map: Kimberly and Tommaso spend 48 hours exploring Rome beyond major landmarks like the Colosseum, Vatican, and Trevi Fountain. They emphasize discovering the city's authentic character by exploring smaller, less-traveled streets. Monti: A Local Roman Neighborhood: They stay in Monti, a less-touristy neighborhood northeast of the Colosseum, describing it as steep, narrow, and lived-in. Kimberly considers Monti more authentic than Trastevere, which has become overly crowded. Hidden Artistic and Historical Treasures: Kimberly visits the Basilica di San Pietro in Vincoli, home to Michelangelo's Moses sculpture, noting its magnificence and free entry. They stumble upon a workshop where a craftsman restores antique frames, engaging in a dying art form. They discover a building covered in sgraffito, a Renaissance wall decoration technique. A Birthday in Rome: For Kimberly's birthday, the itinerary includes exploring churches and meandering through the city. They encounter large crowds near the Pantheon due to Easter week, reminding listeners to consider the Easter holiday when planning spring trips. They visit San Louis des Français, admiring its intricate gold leaf and design. The “Flowers” Exhibit at Chiostro del Bramante: Kimberly and Tommaso visit an exhibition spanning centuries of art, from Renaissance to AI, all centered around flowers and the role they play in ecology. The exhibit includes immersive installations, film, painting, sculpture, and photography, with a notable display of bees building honeycomb on a mold of Emperor Hadrian's face. The Apple Store at Palazzo Marignoli: They visit the Apple Store in Palazzo Marignoli, a beautifully renovated 1870s palace. The store features restored 1900s ceiling paintings and an original ballroom used for concerts, blending history with modern design. An interior courtyard with camphor trees pays tribute to a historic monastery, making the store a highlight of their trip. A Memorable Birthday Dinner: Based on a recommendation from their hotel bartender, they dine at a local osteria. Tommaso mentions Kimberly's birthday to the owner, leading to an abundance of extra dishes. The evening concludes with a surprise birthday dessert and the entire restaurant singing “Happy Birthday.” Join Kimberly and Tommaso in this episode as they share realistic travel advice and authentic experiences from their Roman adventure, celebrating five years of podcasting, and making new memories.

Aarifah Karim is a visually impaired figure skater. She had a stop-start entry into the sport that she now loves, not because of her visual impairment, but due it being a tricky sport to master and other people's attitudes. Aarifah describes to Peter White what figure skating is, how she became involved and whether or not her visual impairment has ever become an obstacle in pursuing the sport. The Entry/Exit System (EES) is a new digital system designed to keep track of when non-EU citizens enter and leave the Schengen Area. It covers 29 European countries, mostly in the EU, and it requires fingerprints and a photograph to be registered. Chris Kay contacted In Touch about the new EES system because he was concerned how he and other members of the Visually Impaired Veterans Ski Club would fare when managing the new system when they take their next annual ski trip to Italy. The Independent's Travel Correspondent, Simon Calder, helps address Chris' concerns and provides more general advice for visually impaired people on future travel through countries who come under this new system.Presenter: Peter White Producer: Beth Hemmings Production Coordinator: Kim Agostino Website image description: Peter White sits smiling in the centre of the image and he is wearing a dark green jumper. Kristján Kristjánsson stýrir kröftugri umræðu um þjóðmálin. Certainty is a mirage, but confidence can be built. In this episode of Clarity Generates Confidence, Gary sits down with Fallon Veit, founder and CEO of EES, a global production agency she built from the ground up without outside investment.Together, they explore how leaders are navigating tariffs, tightening budgets, and the quieter buildup of burnout, while reframing live events as a business strategy that strengthens people and performance. The conversation lands on a simple closing truth that cuts through the noise: honesty is kindness, and it might be one of the most practical tools we have for moving forward.
Ákvörðun Evrópusambandsins (ESB) um að leggja verndartolla á kísilmálm frá Íslandi og Noregi markar þáttaskil í samskiptum EES-ríkjanna. Þrátt fyrir áratugalangt samstarf og aðild Noregs og Íslands að innri markaði Evrópu í gegnum EES-samninginn var hvorugt landið undanþegið tollunum sem eru undir hatti svokallaðra verndartolla. Dr. Carl Baudenbacher, fyrrverandi forseti EFTA-dómstólsins, gagnrýndi ákvörðunina harðlega í viðtali við Morgunblaðið. Hann segir verndartollana gróft brot á EES-samningnum. EES-samningurinn er án nokkurs efa einn mikilvægasti alþjóðasamningur sem Ísland hefur gert. Við Íslendingar lifum á alþjóðaviðskiptum – lífskjör okkar byggjast á greiðum aðgangi að erlendum mörkuðum. Þegar Evrópusambandið tekur einhliða ákvörðun um að útiloka samstarfsríki og gengur gegn grunnhugsun samningsins ætti öllum að vera ljóst að undirstöður EES-samstarfsins eru ekki jafn sterkar og við höfum talið okkur trú um. Og það þjónar ekki hagsmunum okkar að gera lítið úr málinu og tala um hliðarspor, eins og forsætisráðherra gerir eða gefa til kynna að lausnin liggi í því að Ísland gangi inn í Evrópusambandið, líkt og utanríkisráðherra lætur liggja að. En auðvitað kemur það ekki nokkrum manni á óvart að þegar glíma þarf við vandamál eða leysa verkefni sé lausn Viðreisnar alltaf það sama: Evrópusambandsaðild.
Utanríkisráðherrar EES ríkjanna verða á morgun í Brussel á fundi ráðherraráðs Evrópska efnahagssvæðisins. Fundurinn er haldinn í skugga þeirrar ákvörðunar um verndarráðstafanir sem Evrópusambandið ákvað á þriðjudaginn. Björn Malmquist fréttamaður ræddi þessi mál við Þorgerði Katrínu Gunnarsdóttur utanríkisráðherra sem kom til Brussel í dag. Seðlabanki Íslands lækkaði í dagstýrivexti um 0,25 prósentustig. Anna Kristín Jónsdóttir leitaði álits Katrínar Ólafsdóttur deildarforseta viðskipta- og hagfræðideildar Háskólans í Reykjavík, á þessari ákvörðun og mögulegum afleiðingum hennar. Ráðuneytisstjóri í forsætisráðuneytinu fundaði með Sigríði Björk Guðjónsdóttur þáverandi ríkislögreglustjóra undir fjögur augu nokkrum dögum áður en hún sagði af sér embætti. Fundurinn var haldinn á heimili ráðuneytisstjórans að loknum vinnudegi. Forsætisráðherra segir ráðuneytisstjórann ekki hafa farið með nein skilaboð frá henni inn á fundinn.

Purple Rabbits, slurp that green tea and hunker down for The Neoborn Caveman Show—your marble-mouthed host Neoborn Caveman (me, myself, the gang) unleashing pro-humanity rants on life's raw underbelly. We kick off skewering "irresistible" hobbies—archery? Blacksmithing? Spare me; real pull comes from purpose, like indoor tomatoes barricading your pad against urban poison, not time-wasting fluff. Then, a gut-punch from Des Moines: illegal superintendent Ian Andre Roberts, $300K salary to shove agendas down kids' throats, handpicked by Dem strings, busted fleeing ICE with a loaded handgun and deportation order—laws exist to shield taxpayers, not spotlight squatters. Fist-bump the Florida task force's record haul: 1 million pounds of cartel coke, $11B gutted, 378 million lethal doses dodged—why pity narco scum when they peddle death? Health gut-check: 8-year Neurology probe fingers low/no-cal sweeteners (aspartame, sucralose) as cognition killers, accelerating brain fog—sugar's no satan; brew ginger-honey truth over lab lies. Europe's EES drops October 12: fingerprints and snaps for U.S. travelers, "security" facade for data grabs—control's the import, not the espresso. Here's a 300-word iTunes/Podcast Apps summary for Episode 562: What happens when your carefully planned vacation in France takes an unexpected turn? In Unexpected France: History, Nature, and a Bit of Chaos, host Annie Sargent talks with traveler Gregg Furey about a journey filled with breathtaking discoveries, surprising challenges, and a few classic French travel mishaps. Listen to this episode ad-free Gregg's trip took him to places most visitors overlook. He explored the prehistoric caves of Arcy-sur-Cure, where ancient paintings connect today's traveler with humanity's earliest stories. He visited the soaring cathedrals of Laon and Bourges, each one a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. At the battlefield of Alésia, Gregg learned how Julius Caesar defeated Vercingetorix and how that moment still shapes French identity. And in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, he reflected on the life of General Charles de Gaulle at the Croix de Lorraine memorial and museum. But not everything went according to plan. Gregg ended up in a hospital in Sarlat after unexpected health issues. Instead of panic, he found efficient doctors, affordable treatment, and an eye-opening look at how the French healthcare system really works. This detour disrupted his schedule but turned into one of the most memorable parts of the trip. This conversation is about more than just sightseeing. It's about handling the unpredictable. It's about staying flexible, finding humor when things go wrong, and discovering that mishaps often make the best stories. Annie and Gregg remind us that France is more than Paris and the Riviera. Smaller towns, Roman ruins, and quiet villages hold just as much magic. Subscribe to the Join Us in France Travel Podcast to hear more stories like this one. From raves at Narita, airline sonic signatures, to the sound of engines (and a car alarm) during the recording — this episode is music to the ears of Paul and Vinod, unlike the arrivals hell of some airports (should I write which one Vinod will talk about? Nah, you'll find out!). Vinod's way back from Costa Rica, or when nothing goes your way. The beauty of Munich, built straight like a LEGO brick, satisfyingly clear and tidy, and one of Paul's favorites. Is JAL better than Qatar Airways? (Bring your own air vent?). As Japan is seeing increased numbers of international visitors (is that ouvertourism, we talk about it), will it be again Narita's time to shine over Haneda? The old Kenzo Tange dream of NRT might actually come true (in a modern, less striking form). EES, or the rise of machines, taking over airports in the Schengen Area. Please Follow us on: Instagram Facebook Core Points of this episode: Be sure to thoroughly research online travel information; verify details before making plans, as social media posts and other sources can be misleading. Be aware of potential tourist scams, like fake petitions, and exercise caution when approached by strangers requesting signatures or donations. Respect art and cultural sites by refraining from disruptive behavior such as taking selfies or not paying attention to what is part of a museum exhibit. Prepare for extreme weather, including heat waves and intense storms, by staying updated on forecasts and having plans for seeking shelter. Anticipate possible travel disruptions due to strikes, especially during peak season, and check for updates from transport operators. Remember to register your travel plans with your government's traveler enrollment program for safety alerts and advisories. Summary Travel Information and Misleading Content Kimberly and Tommaso emphasize the importance of verifying travel information found online. A humorous example is shared of an Instagram video showing a pharmacy sign in Rome displaying a false temperature of 46 degrees Celsius. This highlights how easily social media can spread misinformation, prompting listeners to be skeptical. Tourist Scams and Ethical Behavior We bring attention to tourist scams encountered in Italy, such as people with clipboards seeking signatures for a fake charity petition, later soliciting donations from those who sign. Kimberly and Tommaso also discuss the importance of respecting art and cultural sites. Examples of tourists causing damage, such as a couple breaking a crystal chair in a museum and a man falling into a painting at the Uffizi Gallery, highlight the need for visitors to be mindful and respectful of their surroundings. Weather Conditions and Preparedness The current hot weather in Italy and the likelihood of intense storms, especially in northern Italy, are discussed in detail. Kimberly and Tommaso advise travelers to plan for unexpected weather changes, as storms can come in quickly and cause flooding. They suggest seeking shelter during storms and adapting sightseeing plans to avoid the hottest parts of the day, such as lingering over lunch. Travel Disruptions Due to Strikes We provide information about potential transportation strikes in Italy. These strikes may affect train services and airport operations, with specific dates and times provided for planned actions. It is recommended to check for updates from train and airport operators closer to the travel dates to mitigate potential disruptions. Travel Advisories and Safety We share updates on travel authorization requirements, noting delays in implementing the ETIAS and EES systems. They also mention the U.S. State Department's travel advisory regarding the conflict between Israel and Iran and potential demonstrations against U.S. citizens. This prompts listeners to register their travel plans with their government's traveler enrollment program for safety alerts and advisories.
Staðan á Gaza og aðgerðir Evrópusambandsins var umræðuefni á ráðherrafundi EES ríkjanna í Brussel í dag, þar sem Kaja Kallas utanríkismálastjóri ESB var meðal þátttakenda. Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir tók þátt í þessum fundi; hún segir það ánægjulegt að aðildarríki ESB séu að ná samstöðu um harðari aðgerðir gagnvart Ísrael. Viljayfirlýsing um nánara samstarf á sviði utanríkis og öryggismála var einnig staðfest á þessum fundi. Björn Malmquist fréttamaður ræddi við Þorgerði Katrínu í Brussel í dag. Peningastefnunefnd Seðlabankans lækkaði stýrivexti í dag um 0,25 prósentustig, úr 7,75 prósent í 7,5. Þórarinn G. Pétursson varaseðlabankastjóri segir að verðbólgan þurfi að hjaðna í sumar til að hægt verði að halda vaxtalækkunarferlinu áfram. Horfur í efnahagsmálum séu góðar en óvissa á alþjóðamörkuðum út af tollastríði gæti sett strik í reikninginn. Menningarferðaþjónusta er nú í fyrsta sinn formlega skilgreind sem hluti af ferðamálastefnu stjórnvalda enda er menning talin afar mikilvægur þáttur í ferðaþjónustu og ferðamenn sem hingað koma njóta íslenskrar menningar með ýmsum hætti um allt land.
